Christie Whelan Browne - Unbreakable

Time: 1:32:01
Christie Whelan Browne is one of the funniest (and most talented) people in Australia. If you know, you know. She’s won multiple awards and done everything from stage and musical theatre, to TV drama and comedy… and most recently Dancing with the Stars.
But it’s her journey, before the #MeToo movement (and continues today) that’s making the biggest impact. Christie has rarely spoken so openly about her very public and tumultuous experience through the courts, in the media and even within her own family, as she became the face of a high-profile criminal trial and subsequent defamation trial that turned her life upside down.
Historically, making the world a better, safer and more equal place for women has never been easy. Far from it. And in this episode Christie tells Hugh, Ryan and Josh what it was like for her, as she landed in the firing line while trying to protect other women like her. To us, Christie is an inspiration and we couldn’t be more grateful to her for sharing her imperfect story with us.To watch the True Stories episode with Christie, please follow this link: https://bit.ly/3BV2x6Y

I cried and had goose bumps the whole way through episodes like Samuel Johnson, was inspired so much through Chrissie Swan, then was literally wheezing laughing through the Glenn Robins Santa episode. A real variety of excellence.
Literally the best podcast I’ve ever listened to. Well done.

New listener here and slowly working my way through all your previous eps. What an important and under discussed service you guys are providing. Thank you for being so authentic and vulnerable with us. I’ve told everyone I know to listen. Appreciate you all and keep being you.

This show has some valuable content however the hosts do tend to talk about themselves too much, go on long winded stories and I’m sorry to be so harsh but they seem to think they’re funnier than they actually are.

What’s great guy. How fortunate you are to have him in the family. Can he come on again please?
Half the time I couldn’t tell if it was James or Josh that was speaking as they sound so
much alike.
Love the show. However you don’t address the disabled and how to cope when your physicality causes mental anguish that makes you wish you were not here.

I’ve been listening for a long time now and really am such a fan of you all. I’ve noticed some podcasts out there trying to capture the same warmth and vulnerability this podcast has, but this one will always include that “secret sauce” that’s impossible to duplicate. Tip my hat to Emily and Producer Bridget for their work and appreciate every single eppy of this podcast. Thanks guys, you’re the best.

I love listening to this podcast and truly look forward to every episode. I’m glad Josh has a mic now because he adds so much value to this podcast. He might not talk as much as Hugh and Ryan but when he does is so relatable, down to earth and genuine. Big love for this poddy!

Just listened to the Wippa episode and I’m truly impressed by a group of men sat in a room together and openly shared their thoughts (dark and otherwise) and feelings. Bless you all! This is what the world needs. Also, I’ll be preordering Wippa’s novel, once released 🙌

I enjoy listening, lots of laughs and insights. 100 positive things to say and only one negative. When the podcast started there was minimal to no swearing so I could listen when kids were in the car. Now as soon as the kids hop in the car, I have to quickly turn it off in case there are swear words as the swearing frequency has picked up unfortunately. I wish it could be more clean, despite the kids, I don’t like listening to swearing either.

Just Thanks!

I have been listening to The Imperfects for a while but the recent episode with Matt blew me away! As a mother - this thoughtful and honest discussion really opened my heart and mind to hopefully be a better parent and support for my kids who have a battle ahead of them, dealing with the post covid world, anxiety, depression and addictive behaviours. It made me cry, laugh and gave me many aha moments and a to do list to keep learning as much as I can. The vulnerability of Matt was such a gift, thanks gents for this podcast!

Came across this podcast at a time in my life where I was dealing with a deep feeling of disconnection and stress in all aspects of my life. The idea and structure of the show is brilliant.
I’m halfway through the 2nd season and am so hooked. Absolutely loved Ryan’s interview, it prompted me to reconnect with a long time friend that I hadn’t spoke to in years and probably wouldn’t have done so had his interview not struck such a deep feeling within me.
The podcast covers serious topics and gives it the proper air time whilst sandwiching it with a light hearted tone at the beginning and end to make it feel like your “listening to a conversation with your mates”.
I find myself laughing out loud between Hugh and Ryan’s banter in every episode.
Hugh, Ryan and Josh well done for such a great podcast 10/10.

I recently stumbled across this podcast and it’s helped me in so many ways, thank you to everyone of the hosts who are equally all amazing and bring richness to each podcast.

I think it’s incredibly powerful to talk about imperfection, vulnerability, shame, jealousy and normalise those states and feelings. You guys do it so well, with grace and humour. But the podcast has a few areas where there is room for growth. I find Ryan’s interjections to make jokes too frequent, sarcastic and distracting. There is absolutely a place for lightness but it feels like Ryan has to pull focus to get a laugh, often at odds with the poignancy or openness of what a guest or Hugh or Josh has said. I wish he had the confidence in himself to allow more space for others. Something in the words of Ben Crowe about ‘being interested, not interesting’.

So glad I found this, makes me feel normal

I love Josh, he has so much to add and I love every time he speaks.
Hugh adds so much with his anecdotes and is a great interviewer.
I find Ryan’s attempts to be funny are at someone else’s expense and him dropping jokes often cuts short a more important conversation/someone else talking, gets very frustrating & takes away from the show, other hosts and guests.

There’s always little pieces of gold in these episodes. Playful banter is edited well to contrast serious thoughts or subjects. The light and shade of each conversation turns potential discomfort into memorable and emotive audio journeys.

I only started listening last year but was instantly drawn in by your podcasts. The depth and humour and content have made me cry, reflect, think and seriously laugh out loud. So I have now started at the beginning. Thank you Ryan, Hugh and Josh for sharing your thoughts and feelings and stories and bringing to us such in depth discussions. It is so powerful and you have a such a positive effect on peoples lives. I love your bantering and general chit chat as well. You are Gold.

Hugh, I love what you do and I love the analysis after each interview. I’m only just finishing the second season and I find it really helpful, but….
You don’t need Ryan taking the piss out of literally everything. He is not that funny! Given that I’m listening to your podcast to help with my depression I find it really annoying. I will persevere because I truly want to get better, and I agree with laughter being a good form of medicine, but Ryan could cut it back a bit, a lot of what he says just isn’t that funny or helpful. You still get 5 stars though Hugh 💕

Firstly I have to say I’ve always loved you guys and think Dr E is fabulous and interesting.
But this latest episode on seeing a psychologist felt like you were speaking to children. I don’t know exactly who your audience is, but talking about the basics of seeing a psychologist seemed really under par for me. I felt like it was the kind of information you should be giving a year 7 student, not adults that listen to your podcast. Sorry to be harsh, I do generally get a lot out of what you present. But this kind of annoyed me a little and made me wonder what your opinions are of your audience, and if you feel the average adult doesn’t know this type of information! I was a little insulted.
I figure you are the type of people that appreciate feedback, so I hope this gives you a little food for thought and doesn’t offend too much!
Much love and appreciation for the efforts you make.
Denise

No one cares what your the founder of. If you had done anything worthwhile we’d all know who you were. No need to explain why you exist in the intro blerb.
Slice that off your ‘about’ info. I was going to give this pod a crack but after reading that 🥱 😖 🙄 I’m already out. Yes you’re all still really important, it’s just no one wants to listen to you.
