Close but not quite right

I’m up to season 3 and my god, I hope you work it out soon.
‘The Bad Guys’ in the stories aren’t evil machiavellian psychopaths like you think they are. They behave the way they do because at some point in their lives, probably at very young ages, they we taught that they were not worthy of love, and this behaviour, was the only way to get it.
No one chooses to behave like that if they have been provided better tools.
I enjoy listening to the lived experiences of your guests, but Tiffany, I have to tune out your commentary. It’s just so damaging and incorrect, and frankly it makes you sound like an idiot, and I know you are not.
It’s people spreading misinformation and hate like this, that makes it harder for damaged people to get the help they deserve. Which ironically, makes the problem of hurt people hurting people even more prevalent.
News Flash! People who think the world hates them don’t go to therapy 🤷‍♀️

Confusing

I actually like this podcast a lot but how on earth do you tell which episodes are stand alone and which are across multiple parts. Nothing in the notes tells you anything. Go to season 25 episode 5 for example….is it a continuation of episode 4? Nothing tells you.

Robust research & engaging

Robust research. Engaging. Gives survivors space and time to tell their story. Fantastic. Would highly recommend.

Used to be a fan

It has got quite tedious. Used to love the victim storytelling. Now it is just a platform for host to lecture and is quite tedious

Good, but drags on…

I always start off enjoying each season but then tend to get bored as the story is dragged out. This season especially just got boring. Some interviews could have been summarised.

Exceptional humans

The survivors are extraordinary. The person speaking in “The Carcass” episode is brave beyond measure. Criminal charges should be brought against the management and staff of these torture camps. The survivors should be paid millions in compensation. Outrageous that the govt sanctions this institutionalised torture of children

So far, so good.

Just started this podcast so only up to series 4, but very interesting life experiences and valuable life lessons being shared

Audio terrible

I have given up listening to the sound of someone on speakerphone recounting their experiences. Back to other podcasts that organise actual in-person interviews.

‘Paint Drying: The Podcast’ would be more entertaining

Do you want to listen to a podcast that dumps an enormous volume of tedious & irrelevant information on you? Perhaps one that pads out an hour of relevant content into seven hour long episodes? Do you love listening to presenter earnestly gush about how brave & wonderful her interviewees are? Do you want the opportunity to scream “GET ON WITH IT!” aloud multiple times an episode? If so, this is the perfect podcast for you. Genuinely, I can’t think of one that does this better. If you value your time, I’d suggest other things.

Birth stories

I used to love this podcast, however after listening to the bashing of Birth Centres and Midwifery, I’m no longer a fan. I totally empathise with the survivors and their stories which are totally validated. Birth Trauma is real no matter which model of care people use. However with the majority of Birth Traumas occurring in Hospital care, it’s important that you portray all sides and not glamorise the obgyn hospital care as the safest. The way birth has been medicalised in this modern world is really sad. Women are being disempowered and all control over their bodies and babies is being taken over. By criticising midwifery and continuity of care models, you are blemishing options for women and families to have positive, safe, empowered birth experiences.

Can I please ask…

I came across your podcast ‘Something Was Wrong’ Season 22 about Megan Stoner.
Suffice it to say, I found it extremely well done & engaging, and started listening to your earlier podcasts from Season 1.
I have just finished SERIES 10, EPISODE 2 [Megan] Shocking Realization, and to me, her voice sounded exactly the same as Megan Stoner in Season 22, so I wanted to ask you if I am correct, as I can’t find any confirmation of this?
Congratulations on a truly wonderful podcast and thank you for all the efforts you put it to informing and helping people.

a big fan!

i have always been a big fan!! Season 22 has been the first time i stopped a series. Hearing the back & forth with Megan on the political campaigns, feels a bit petty & mundane. We get it, she didn’t make the phone calls, i’m not sure that’s worth air time.

Outstanding

A fascinating podcast. Well researched and put together. My heart breaks for those caught in Megan’s web of treachery. Everyone who participated in this production was brave, vulnerable and generous. Tiffany and her people did such a good job pulling this all together.

Great to hear survivors

Love every episode and every season. So many stories, but all told by survivors and handled so beautifully. I’m so glad there is a show that does not glorify the gore. Love this love Tiffany R!

I absolutely loved series 1&3”2, but girl, you have lost your way. Season 22 was so all over the place. Can’t stand the drama. Too many eye rolls. I’m out.

Laziest podcast production

Has a bot made this podcast?!! This season is just a series of incredibly long and boring audio recordings of the offender, and those impacted by her crimes. There is no narrative here, and there is absolutely no journalism.

Struggling with blame season 17

I’m really struggling to listen to season 17. That mother blaming the medical community for failing her son Jace when she was the one who failed him. Letting a stranger be alone with her fragile toddler after barely knowing him is just unbelievable! And not paying attention to her sisters hard evidence about his criminal history is just mind boggling. I mean she didn’t even put a nanny camera up or anything??? She totally failed him. You don’t bring men around your vulnerable child that early. Everyone knows that. And she’s a nurse!!! I’m really not happy with her being given a platform to blame everyone else but herself. She should be educating other mothers on not allowing new men around their kids. It’s not rocket science.

Professionalism is fading away

I love that this podcast gives victims a platform and tells their stories through them however, like many other reviews provided, the later seasons are becoming less and less professional. In season 20, regardless of how unlikely Jess was to provide comment, the host was immediately combative when calling for comment and therefore was reducing her chance at getting one. Then on the second call calling her “babydoll” was completely unprofessional.
The victims completely deserve empathy when dealing with their stories but the host should be staying impartial when reporting/investigating instead of becoming a part of the drama.

Raising awareness!!!

One of my fav podcasts, has come such a long way from season 1!
Does an amazing job of raising awareness of what nasty things people are capable of. I love listening to these people’s experiences and you can tell how much Tiffany really cares and supports them. Will keep listening forever!!!!

You are truly doing God’s work, providing a platform and bringing hope, healing and justice for victims of the most insidious crimes. It takes someone very special to do this work.

Drawn out

Early series were great and I liked that you were giving victims a platform to share their stories. However more recent series have been soo stretched out, often with the same conversations repeated to the point I can’t listen to it anymore. Also the only reason to stretch it out like this would be to benefit financially which feels very icky considering the content.

So Good

I decided to write this review (I don’t write many) after seeing how many low star reviews there are of this amazing podcast.
I’ve basically binged all 20 seasons since discovering this podcast over the past year or so. I obviously like some seasons more than others, but this season (20) is my favourite of all. It’s the exact type of story that makes me love this podcast.
What Tiffany does for the people she speaks to, the support she offers the victims, and her genuinely empathetic and sincere nature makes it so great.

Gone downhill

This podcast used to be really good but this last series - 20 - is just a heap of people (one indistinguishable from the next) reading texts. Seriously boring. Lazy podcasting. Needed a MASSIVE edit. Lost me as a listener.

Too much padding

As with a few other comments, way, way too much padding, I only got through half of the first series.

So incredibly repetitive

I’ve given the latest 3 seasons a go and they all start well in the first episode and then just spend the following 6 as filler repeating the same opinions and stories over and over. S20 has been 5 episodes of the exact same idea reiterated by multiple voices. Seems like the producer is not listening to feedback from their audience at all, or researching complex stories that have ongoing substance, rather just sitting back and enjoying the paycheck that comes with more listens. Frustrating to see for a podcast that has such a big audience.

Poorly constructed

I used to love this podcast but it has definitely lost its way. Its clear that the interviews are not structured in any way and the episodes are poorly edited and put together making the story tedious, confusing and very very repetitive. I just end up feeling frustrated when I listen to it as I can’t follow the story. The timeline is all over the place, interviews with multiple different people saying exactly the same thing, and stories that should be only one or two episodes are often stretched out over way more episodes. It’s a real shame because I think these people have important stories to tell and deserve a platform for this but I just can’t listen to it any more.

I have so many queries....

Way too much monologue from the host and the guests. And why must you all talk so fast? Why include such poor audio clips that are unintelligible🤨? You even bother to warn that it is poor, prior 🙄, as if that makes it acceptable. Well, it isn't.
And 5 minutes of ads in such a short episode is too much.
After just 3 episodes of the first Series, I can not listen to anymore😩

Lost its way

I did adore this podcast and found it so interesting and well presented, it’s quite arduous to get through now and the stories feel strangely loose and not put together. Not cohesive.
I hope it can come back to life. Love the host and am missing her tone throughout.

5 Stars Every Day

This is one of the many podcasts I picked up during COVID lockdowns & also one of the few that stuck. It’s a fave. The victim/survivor centred focus & creation of a space for people to find their own voices is truly unique. I’ve been a bit confused lately when I suddenly see a Season 1, episode 11 pop up in my downloads and it sort of feels like my bookmark 🔖 has been torched and I can’t figure out what page I’m actually on, so I’m kind of like skipping around, things sound familiar then season 18 ep IDK & I don’t know what’s happening lol. I’m going to try to work it out, but this seemed like the place to give a heads up in case it’s not just my foggy brain. Either way, it’s enjoyable the second or third time you’ve listened to the same episode which is actually really impressive.
(I’m not a big fan of season 18. It’s giving ‘Big Brother’ in a way that makes me uncomfortable)

Hit and miss, mostly miss

There were some decent episodes in the early day of this podcast, but after a while the stories start to get repetitive and frustrating to listen to. The last episode about some privileged guys playing in a band was the straw that broke the camels back. Literally much ado about nothing. Waste of time.

I used to love this show and I don’t remember why..

When I first found this podcast, I was obsessed. It was the story telling, education and empathy that captured my heart and interest and Tiffany’s personality, empathy and thinking that kept me coming back season after season.
I don’t know when it happened or how; Perhaps slowly over time, the way a relationship or partner slowly becomes toxic and unsafe during the course of the relationship but I fell out of love and started ‘hate listening’ on Wondery.
I really WANT to love this podcast because hearing from survivor victims is incredibly important and hearing multiple perspectives on true crime stories educates us. Working on putting victims stories at the forefront of true crime is commendable work but the quality has declined and the feelings of empathy and support you feel for the story tellers created by that quality has almost disappeared.
What happened? What changed? Is it Tiffany? A lot of listeners around the world feel that it IS Tiffany and that she is not the genuine, supportive and critically thinking woman she originally presented herself to us as. I’ll be listening again to try and figure out where it changed.

Season 17 has left me enraged and heartbroken

Nothing has ever compelled me to write a review like this but here we are. Everybody has done wrong by Jace Burgess. His murderer, his mother, everyone that suspected abuse and did absolutely nothing about it, and now you Tiffany Reese. The way the one person that was supposed to care for him above all else was allowed to tell this story - painting herself as an absolute victim - when in reality she was an experienced neonatal nurse that was also trained to be a mandated reporter, who blatantly decided to put her relationship with an absolute dropkick of a human who had previous charges against him for child abuse and several active protection orders - all of which she was aware of. She knew the man for a total of four months before he killed her child. Jace has been so horrendously let down by everybody. Again. She left her disabled son in the care of a man she hardly knew and who had a history of child abuse. She moved him in. I am absolutely devastated listening to this and haven’t stopped crying. Let’s be really clear, if she were part of literally any minority group or disadvantaged in any way, Leslie Burgess would be in prison. But thank goodness for her she’s just a naive white Christian woman, am I right? Jase was a developmentally delayed 3 year old boy that was literally verbalising to the people in his family that this man was bad, hurting and shaking him. How could any host listen to this retelling and think they were doing right by this poor child?! Leslie’s story was MASSIVELY problematic? Jace Burgess, I am so very sorry this was your path darling boy. Tiffany, if I could give zero stars I would. Do. Better.

Disgusted by season 17

I used to enjoy this podcast but just listened to season 17 and feel like throwing up. How was this “victim” given a platform? She is complicit in the death of an innocent child and was so cold about it. You failed him Leslie. We all heard what you had to say and we are disgusted by you. How can you live with yourself? Also, the show would be better named “crazy naïve Christians” rather than something was wrong- nearly every story portrays how very Christian Americans become sheltered and naive and get taken advantage of. This will be the last time I ever listen to this. Jaces story will stay with me for a long time. I hope justice prevails and Leslie serves time for her role in this murder.

Great podcast

Can’t believe the negative comments on this podcast! Go listen to something else! And why is your level of who is a victim correct and not the hosts? Everyone has a story and I think the host does a great job in giving a voice to all victims. The neg comments are the reason why people don’t speak up about their own experiences! Keep up the great work!

Poor form

While the early seasons are great, this podcast has gone severely downhill. Seasons are now incredibly tone deaf and season 17 in particular was disgusting to listen to. It’s pretty ironic that a podcast about abuse survivors is hosted by such a classic narcissist. I really hope Tiffany learn some lessons before season 18.

Something feels off

I used to love this podcast and I’m trying to keep listening but something isn’t sitting well with me anymore. Season 17 is horrible and the actual victim isn’t being honoured. Also why is every story centred around Christian’s? I find it so frustrating and frankly alienating.

What a badass show!!!

Love this show, so much education, holding space, and recovery from trauma. It’s really well done in a human relaxed way regardless of the intensity of the stories, they are told as they are and held with love and respect…keep up the good work, big high five from Australia.

Started off well…

I used to be a big fan of this podcast, but season 16 and 17 is where things have started slipping. I cannot believe that you have offered that woman a platform to talk about her experience (S17). She has been depicted as a victim/survivor… I’m honestly disgusted and incredibly saddened by what has been portrayed as nativity but was actually sheer negligence.
