Description

In this graphic and violent, post-apocalyptic thriller, nine strangers all tenants of a New York high rise apartment escape a nuclear attack by hiding out in the building's bunker-like basement. Trapped for days underground with no hope for rescue, and only unspeakable horrors awaiting them on the other side of the bunker door, the group begins to descend into madness, each turning on one another with physical and psycho-sexual torment. As supplies dwindle, and tensions flare, and they grow increasingly unhinged by their close quarters and hopelessness, each act against one another becomes more depraved than the next. While everyone in the bunker allows themselves to be overcome by desperation and lose their humanity, one survivor holds onto a thin chance for escape even with no promise of salvation on the outside.

Great direction, acting and cinematography & the story and characters were much stronger than other comments had me believe. The film throws you into the deep end from the start - you don't know anything about the characters life prior to the nuke (except for tiny snippets of backstory hinted at throughout), but instead learn their true character as it rises to the surface during their time in the basement. 4.5/5

The actors do a fantastic job only to be let down by the writers. It starts nowhere and goes nowhere.

WOW.....what a ride down into absolute depravity.....only the truely strong will survive in the end but the basement is only the start.....it should have been called "Descending" ! Just when you think things can't get any worse it leaves you with a hopeful ending devoid of all hope ! Tosses you around like a pitbull with a rag doll but when's it over it makes you really appreciate life......what a ride.....thoroughly enjoyed it ;)

The Divide is an excellent thriller/ Sci Fi Fantasy. Rating it as a (Post Apocalyptic) film is difficult being that nearly the entire film occurs in a basement and really dosen't give you the crumbling buildings and desolate streets you envision being the setting in that demographic of film. But the characters scripted are excellent with some spectacular performances from Michael Biehn and Milo Ventimiglia who seems to have an unreal talent for thriller roles (see Pathology). The crippling descent into madness in a desperate situation is played out well and the twists and turns are enough to keep you intrigued until the end. This film I definitely recommend.

I just love these post apocolyptic sci fi movies, but this one was just B Grade porn gore, mad max style. Wasnt sci fi at all, just a bunch of rednecks in a basement.

Damn. I'm a bipolar manic depressive-this movie depressed the hell out of ME. Take ten douchebags, throw 'em in a cellar, add a not subtle at all commentary on America's War On Terror-Outstanding work, sir.

Disturbing

This movie is quite disturbing. It is certainly not realistic don't get me wrong but I wanted to find out how it ended. Definitely B grade there is now doubt about that, however the concept is some what original. If you have time to fill its worth renting however if you can not stand weird vomit worthy scenes, I suggest downloading a lighter film.

this is one of those sci-fi flicks that just keeps getting worse. Forever hopeful that it can't deteriorate further but actually it does, The premise is OK - a New York nuclear apocalypse followed by a rush to the basement (of course). Good cast so who knows where it could go from here (well we started going down). Not sure where you would pin the blame. The direction - seemed OK. The special effects - given the claustrophobic character of this set-piece - OK. The script - nah it was lots of short phrases loudly enunciated - OK. Must have been the combination - really not OK.

Great film
