Description

Rarely can a film penetrate the glamorous surface of rock legends. It Might Get Loud tells the personal stories, in their own words, of three generations of electric guitar virtuosos – The Edge (U2), Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), and Jack White (The White Stripes). It reveals how each developed his unique sound and style of playing favorite instruments, guitars both found and invented. Concentrating on the artist's musical rebellion, traveling with him to influential locations, provoking rare discussion as to how and why he writes and plays, this film lets you witness intimate moments and hear new music from each artist. The movie revolves around a day when Jimmy Page, Jack White, and The Edge first met and sat down together to share their stories, teach and play.

just brilliant. the premise of getting these 3 icons of guitar together to jam simply acts as a catalyst for the lead up mini-biographies and shared philosophies, eventually making the actual meeting a nice moment but not really necessary.
the passion all three have for music–and in jack white's case, simply creating–is inspiring. i wasn't even a jack white / white stripes fan until i saw this and the honesty of his drive and ambition is contagious.
you don't need to be a font of knowledge of the guitar or music in general to watch this. it's multi layered and i'd be surprised if anyone didn't enjoy it.

Yep its not about 'the 3 best Guitar players in the world' Its about the JOURNEY for THESE 3 guys! So enough with the "who deserves to be there stuff!..I love everything about this film. Some of my favourite moments - Sir Jimmy playing air guitar to his favourite tunes, what joy in his face.. Edge's good humour and humble honesty..quirky Jack playing the blues to bunch of cows - man what soul, can this guy play the blues or what.
So many moments...
The look on Edge and Jacks's faces when Sir Jimmy launches into "Whole lotta Love" - wouldnt you just have given anything to be there!
Such admiration and respect they showed for each other. All so different and yet their paths bore stricking similairties. The search, the seduction, the conflict/tension and ultimate inevitable release.
The editing was great.. David Guggenheim you've done it again!
What a fabulous idea - Hats off to the Producers
I would like a soundtrack release?!..please..there was so much music here, even in the background.
It has made me go back and listen there their music , 'anew'.
Watching these guys, allowing us to see hear and feel their passion..travel their journey with them...let us in...what a privilege..what a ride!!

The Edge is great, sure technicly White and Page are better but Edge created a whole new style. He also mastered effects in a way that now other person ever has. So stop saying he dosn't deserve to be in this movie.

I was brought up with the likes of Zep & Sabbath 30 odd years ago now and I still am in awe of the fluidity of Jimmy Pages playing, his fingers are like water they take you on a journey whether it's a trickling stream or white water rafting. The Edge is methodical and technical but to see him out of cocoon and sitting playing with Jimmy and Jack in a raw kind of way (for him) was great. I am not a White Stripes fan because I don't really like Jacks voice but guitar wise he plays the blues heartfelt, the emotions just ooze from him.
Also goes to show you can teach an old dog new tricks, the look on Jimmys face when Jack showed both The Edge and himself how to play Seven Nation Army, then they all join in.
I wish the film had been longer to be honest, loved the deleted scenes and would loved to have seen more of them.

Let down.

As a guitarist I thought this would be heaven. But its boring and un-eventful. Expected alot more. Non-guitarists would find it even more dull.

10/10!

This movie takes three different guitar players, a legend, a technical master and one who is on a mission to be true to the roots of rock while pushing it as hard as he can, and gives an overview of each of their journeys to become the musician they are.
It is not meant to be a documentary on the greatest guitar players in the world, it is more about the struggles any musician might go through to find an unique voice.
These three craftsmen showcase different eras, styles and philosophies, but despite this we see that their creative journey to personal success and goals are remarkably similar.

As a guitarist and Zep fan of 20 years I was excited when this film was released but unfortunately it fails to deliver. What could have been every guitar players idea of heaven turned into a boring and lacklustre affair. Jimmy Page is the only person worthy in this film, the Edge is out of his league, Jack White is arrogant and dull. I think the film needed more actual guitar legends such as David Gilmour for instance.

This doco is informative. And entertaining.
Jimmy Page shows off his massive guitar and vinyl collection, but when he plays air guitar to a Link Wray song makes you grin. The edge explains the impact of war that it had on u2, and how much he depends on his effects. I don't know but The Edge to me doesn't deserve to be in this film.
You could not say anything that would damage Jack White. The movies shows just how tough he is, and his humourous side.
It is the best doco in my mind. I am a guitar freak and a music junkie, so maybe that weighs a bit on my opinion. But it is enjoyable. Would of been cool if they used one more muso like Josh Homme but it turned out to be a pretty good jam.

This movie really opens up the stories behind the legends. i recommend it to any guitarist looking for inspiration, rock fan or just anyone looking for a good documentary. I would have liked to of seen a few more guitarists on here to be honest (john frusciante +Steve vai), But all in all this movie is great (:
