Version 5.3.7
I LOVE this app and what you can achieve with it, however, every time the iPad receives an update, the most useful features sod off entirely and either require a workaround or you can just forget about them until another OS update accidentally fixes them. The app is great when everything works but the good folks behind iPadOS seem to have severe learning difficulties and are otherwise formidably terrible at their jobs.
Sadly, this happens damn near every update, features vanish or the way to access them changes with no notification or indication as to how you’re supposed to access them now. So due to Apple’s incompetence with their own systems, I’m selling my iPad and buying a tab S or something more reliable and less restrictive. I’ve had enough.

Amazing…but

Version 5.3.7
Brush shape and texture having a pixel setting, or supporting small images would be good. A setting to make brushes either fill a pixel to 100% or 0 would be interesting too, but auto lines and shapes would also have to act this way as well if no other tools were added.
A pixelisation tool would be nice so you don't have to do it manually, where you adjust pixelisation scale.
And last thing would be a colour limiting tool where you could provide a set palette or number of colours for the selection to be reduced to. It would be cool if this was part of a pixelation tool, titled something like resolution adjustments.
A similar thing for that could be done for opacity, so you can use layers and make summation of them consistent. This sort of tool would also allow you to clean up the smart shapes I mentioned.
Aside from pixel art, Procreate is a very powerful and versatile app, allowing you to use it for many different kinds of things, with a very simple and easy to use user interface. It's one of the best iPad apps.

My iPad recently updated itself, for some odd reason I cannot use any of my photos as reference or add a photo via the app! I’ve been through all settings nothing has worked, whenever I go to add a photo the album comes up, but show a hand icon in the corner (I think it’s the privacy setting icon) and when I go to it the only option is some photos ! ? Why not all access to photos ? Annoying ! I have work to do!

Version 5.3.7
Please, for the love of god, charge a few quid a month or whatever for a cloud storage option - two birds, one stone. I paid £5 for this app about a hundred years ago and feel guilty at this point even using it. Your business model is an absolute mystery to me. Unless it’s not wanting to be Adobe so much you eventually go out of business. At least with optional paid cloud storage you could put out updates and quality of life improvements more than once every year or so.

Can no longer import photos from camera roll to Procreate -or into Dreams - adobe products working ok as are others and SM - the options seem to have changed for Procreate.
Settings says it will access photos but only ones I select - when I select photos to add nothing happens.
App can only add to camera roll but not access that photo to import it back into Procreate.
iPad Pro 5th gen operating latest iOS.
Help please.

Of course no apps are going to be PERFECT, but the next thing to it is always working towards it, which Procreate absolutely nails. There are millions (as far as I can see) of amazing tools on there, as well as complex animation, replay, distortion and so many other cool things. I recommend having a go at Sketchbook, which is free, first. If after 2-3 months you feel comfortable and happy with digital art, and you feel like you’re pushing the boundaries a bit and are looking for more (as I was) then go ahead. You might even earn the money back by selling artwork/brushes on Etsy etc. Yes, it’s £12, quite pricy, but if you think about it, you might spend that much on a good set of art pens or a few notebooks or something. It’s not a subscription, which unfortunately 95% of all apps seem to be, so you can properly OWN it. Plus, if you have an Apple Family Sharing plan, which is free, then you can share it with up to 5 people — which I do — without paying any extra. Also: To the developers, I saw you replied to so many other reviews which is great, well done for the amazing app. Just a couple of asks: 1. Could you add a few more options to the Liquify adjustment? I love playing with it SO MUCH, and it would be super cool to see even more! 2. I often group layers for big projects, and would like to be able to put a layer ABOVE the group and set it as a clipping mask ON the group. I don’t know if this is possible, but if it is, it would be really useful! Thank you!

Its good

I recently purchased this app, after seeing countless videos about it on instagram. I have to say, I’m really impressed, I have only been using it for a week, so I have yet to find its full potential but the amount of control you have over all of the brushes, the colour palettes, layer options and I’m sure much more, is great. You can just start drawing, or import images to trace over, lord only knows what else. I’m thinking your imagination is the only limitation. Tutorials are a must, I have watched a couple on YouTube and they are very helpful. I must say though, I am using an iPad gen 5, so I can’t get an iPencil as the pad is too old, I am however using a generic third party stylus, which gives the same control as just using your finger, but you can see better. I accept the full potential of the app is inaccessible until I can afford a new iPad and iPencil, but I just wanted to say, don’t let not having the correct kit put you off, you just have to fiddle with the settings a little to get the effect you want. My thoughts are, if I love using it now, once I’ve got the money I will definitely invest in the proper kit and I know it will be so much better.

Brilliant App

I love this app because after only a week of using it you understand the basics easily and I’ve had this for over a year now, with no trouble at all! On thing I’d like to suggest would be a ruler to measure the drawing built in. That way, it can be easier to measure proportions on the face, body etc as well as perspective. It would be so good if they could put that in the next update, thanks so ,ugh for reading!

Totally satisfied with Procreate, use it daily and have developed over 200 illustrations professionally so far. One oversight which needs to be updated and is crucial to workflow progress is the option to choose Clipping Mask within the Quick Menu structure. If you could add that, this would be fantastic, thank you.

So I’ve had Procreate for a while now and I absolutely love it!! There’s a massive range of brushes to use and there’s nothing locked behind a paywall (like layers etc.) and I would definitely recommend it to any artists that are looking for a really good drawing app. It’s really easy to adapt to using the basic features and there are even some features I’m trying to learn to use 😂 but overall, a fantastic app and I think it’s the best art app on the App Store by far 🙂

So i downloaded this app for cheap, luckily i didn't have to pay every month. But the animations are hard every layer counts as a frame but i normally use 2 layers, one for sketch and one for drawing apart from that i love it! It’s quite hard to use some brushes though.❤️

Overall, the app is amazing and just what I need it for! But one small thing, the animation feature. The settings are really advanced and perfect from what I can tell but PLEASE, for my sanity, make it so you can add audio to your animation! Ok, so I don’t normally do reviews but I had to do one for this app. I know that you have to pay but it’s soooooo worth it, I’ve been searching for drawing apps for years now and this is just THA BEST. I know a lot of people have complains about the animation tool, and I totally agree! And I really hope the creators soon fix it. (But no rush!!!) it’s a bit confusing at first but the more u use it, the easier it gets! So don’t be frustrated if u don’t get the hang of it at first! There’s a huge range of brushes (all very different) and the fact that u can create ur own is just genius! And I LOVE the palette features, it’s just amazing, and I don’t think any app can beat Procreate with it’s amazing features of all kind!
Request for updates:
- it would be great if u could add like tutorials of the different features and secrets
- layers for the animation tool

Amazing but small bug

So I’ve been using Procreate for more that 2 years now and I truly think it’s a great app. But there is a small bug which I want to ask you to fix. So when you want to animate on my iPad wall the layers that I use go onto different pages for the animation tool so I have to put the layers in groups so it’s all together but when I’m animation I want to add another group but then it says “You have reached the maximum of 60 layers”
So then I have to export my animation make a whole new one then edit on capcut. This is a really frustrating process even though it mayn’t seem so but please can you raise the maximum on 60 layers to 100? It would help me dearly in my life of an animator. Apart from that everything is smooth as silk. The is a wide range of colours you can have a pallets a HUGE variety of brushes and sizes.
Overall this game is truly fantastic but it has its ups and downs but doesn’t every game. Nonetheless everything else is perfect.

(I don’t usually write reviews but this seems to be the only way to get my feedback a slim chance of being seen, the thread on this topic in the forum is already three-year old and was marked as ‘released’ so I guess it won’t get a read anymore)
Quite annoyed to find out on my own that Colour History is not available on device with a screen smaller than 10 inches😕(hello, 9.7-inch iPad and 8.3-inch iPad mini do exist?) Like, yeah a three-line palette can be fitted under the colour wheel, but ‘not enough space’ for a one-line colour history. I’m using Sketchbook, SketchClub and Fresco on the same device and all three of them have Colour History available, so was not expecting it to be unavailable in this more expensive app. It just feels like I paid the same price for this App yet can’t use all of its features only because I don’t have a device with big screen: ‘want all features? Go & pay £1000 to get a proper device’.
May I suggest the developers put in the app description a list of what features are available for devices with different screen sizes, so we users know what to expect before we pay for it, and potentially save us the hassle of finding out on our own.
App itself is great, maybe it’s my fault thinking this would be a full upgrade of Sketchbook. Sorry I’m not rich enough to get a new device for this App🙁 5/5 for the App itself, -3/5 for discriminating small screens

Really good! Love this so much.

So, this is a really good app- but it’s VERY confusing also. If you do not have tutorials (which this app does not) it’s very hard to understand how to do stuff. I just got this for 13 pounds and I’m not very impressed so far. Please let me know when you finally make a tutorial or something. Just needed to add something.. When you get used to the app, there are so many things you can do, and I really think it is worth the money. Tysm for making such an awesome app 🤪😇
Hiiiiii!! Me again. I just have to say that I LOVE THIS APP, and once you get used to it and have watched a few simple videos about how to do the basics, you fall in love with it. So many materials, so many ✨Possibilities✨ and you can do anything. Worth the money now, and best drawing app so far! Thanks so much!

The line selection tool (little squiggle on the toolbar) is no longer recognising my ipencil. It still works perfectly everywhere else on the app, but it’s a pain to lose that freehand selection unless I go back to using fingers instead of the pencil. I’ve changed the nib, fully charged it, reset the iPad and checked the pencil settings and Procreate settings etc, all the obvious things except for deleting and reinstalling the app because I’m worried I’ll lose all my works. Absolutely minor issue but if it could be fixed it would be 5 stars all the way - or alternatively if it’s an issue with my pencil, I’m not sure as it only started with the most recent update, any ideas on how to troubleshoot this issue would be much appreciated! Other than this I’m absolutely blown away by the quality of this app and everything it offers, a literal must have for any artist! Update: thanks for replying! It is all back in working order now, I really appreciate the help!

The colour drop/fill tool always has problems and even when i have a solid outline it still just fills other parts of the drawing too not just the part i want it to, its not with the layers i always check … i got this app because this feature was one of my favourite but its a dissapointment that it doesnt work very well . It has other problems as well like brushes being giant for some reason after i pick them and the colour pallette no longer letting me see the original ones only the one i made . Its very annoying. It does have some great things though such as symmetry, drawing guides , layers , adjusment tools and animatation but the animation i found hard to use and i dont know how to export the things i have animated to my camera roll . Despite those its a pretty good drawing app maybe a bit overpriced for just an app

Just. Totally. Awesome. Life-changer.

This app which I started with in the 2020 lockdown has absolutely totally changed my life, giving me the confidence to try all sorts of design, ultimately resulting in designing and printing my own greetings cards for charity. You can try anything; the layers process lets you see an effect which can be removed, re-added or changed without destruction; there are hundreds of useful and inspiring videos available on all sorts of sites - it is literally a new world! There are also thousands of brushes and stamps available - and I own a lot! This is my question for the developers - could there be an adjustment whereby you could search for a brush name? The ‘Recents’ collection has been a good addition but it doesn’t ‘save’ very many brushes at a time and if you are creating a complex design you may use loads. I have tried to organise my brushes into media types etc but this doesn’t help when searching for something you have used successfully but can’t recall the collection it is in. Fingers crossed that something like this could be in the upcoming updates! But overall worth hundreds of stars!

1. The canvas is extremely pixelated compared to apps like adobe draw, which can only be reduced to some extent, but not enough to have images of a quality high enough that they can be used for selling art - as a digital designer I deeply regret buying this and haven’t been able to sell a single piece of art drawn using this app due to the quality issues.
2. This is the only app that saving PNG’s doesn’t work on. It worked initially, and customer service tried to tell me that iPad’s couldn’t save PNG’s with transparent backgrounds if the canvas was over/under a certain number of pixels, but even after altering it this will not work. They also suggested I save it to my files instead - this also didn’t save with a transparent background and the quality was awful. They also failed to explain why it is that, despite not changing anything about the way I draw and save my images, I am suddenly unable to save PNG’s.
I have gone back to using adobe’s drawing applications, and would strongly recommend you avoid Procreate.

I really love this app, it has tons of features, unique GUI and the unique pressure sensitivity really makes it feel like you’re drawing traditionally. However, I would like to see a few things added: the ability to change the brush that a layer has already been drawn in (or to change the already drawn brush strokes to a different brush texture); the ability to change an entire group’s opacity as one instead of having to manually change each layer’s opacity within the group; the ability to pin artworks/stacks (I always have to scroll down for ages to find specific artworks within my heaps of doodles and sketches!); a option for a selection brush specifically for selecting an area of the canvas (other art programs have this feature e.g. Clip Studio Paint). Other the previously listed I have no complaints and I have been using this app for years. Amazing app, keep it up!

So I decided to test the Procreate waters after a few of friends who are professional arts touted it as being ‘amazing’ As someone who has used almost every drawing software, these are the reasons for my 3 stars: 1. The stabilisation tool could have been loads better. There should an option/ mechanism which lets you slow down the strokes drawn. I am yet to come across a software that can match Clip studio paint’s stabilisation which offers various levels of stabilisation speeds. 2. The selection tool should be easily accessible with a great ease of use. In this program, it’s a bit of a struggle trying to select parts of your drawing to colour. 3. You can’t reposition layers easily. Other software programs utilise a simple drag mechanism to drag layers to the top or bottom pending on your choice. 4. Absence of smart guides. I Hope to see a massive improvement but for now, I will stick with other programs.
Edit: It could have been a lot better if there was an option to create vector layers.

I love it

So this app is amazing yes it’s 10 pound but it’s worth it you don’t have to pay again and all brushes are there no more money needed one thing I would say is maybe for new users do a tutorial and if you could have face or different templates for it if you’re thinking of getting it get it also I use it for tracing so if you could make something where the image can’t move that would be great 😊 edit: I thought of a good idea for the app that you might want to consider maybe you could create a account so that you can choose some of your artworks to share with the Procreate community because some people create master pieces but never get to share them . If you take this idea on board can you please
make sure you have to select the picture you want though thanks
Edit 2 : I’ve had Procreate for a lot longer now and know how to use it and still love the app however I’ve come across a problem recently with importing photos , it makes the photos incredibly pixelated I was doing a project for school making a collage on the app and all my photos where pixilated if there is a way you or I could fix this problem please tell me but other than that I love the app .

Changed the game for me.

Have had Procreate for just under a year now and it’s has changed my life. It enables me to produce the kind of work that I struggled to do with traditional techniques and I have been more prolific during this time than ever before.
One thing I have noticed, particularly when drawing or sketching is that due to the dynamics and rendering of the pencil it kind of highlights bad habits I have picked up in penmanship and is helping me to correct them. Not something I expect was intended but seems to doing so nonetheless.
The huge variety of brushes gives so much scope for different styles and techniques. I love the level of control for adjustments to brushes and features, and despite others’ doubts I have had great fun with the animation assist.
Have had no problems with crashing or anything like that. Just constant creative joy. Thankyou for such an awesome app experience.

I downloaded this app not long ago for my birthday and it is amazing! I am good at art irl, but this app just makes it 10x easier, i love all of the brushes they are all amazing and i love how many things you can do on it it’s mind blowing! And i am also getting more confident with my art skills, cause about a few years ago I got put off drawing because of school (because you don't get to draw what you want) but i had a new sketch pad and i was thinking of ways to use it so i was searching around the house for items to draw and started liking drawing again, my dads friend has this app to and recommended it to me so like i said i got it and yeah its just amazing and theres so many things i haven’t found out about yet theres so many things to learn anyways, i highly recommend this is probably one of the best drawing apps ever! Thanks for reading 😁❤️🙏

I really enjoy this app, it’s one of the best drawing programs I’ve used.
However I recently started to dabble with the animation feature and I have to say it’s lacking a fair bit and could really do with an overhaul, I’m not a pro animator so I can’t say all that needs improving but one of the biggest things for me that stops it from being great is the layers; having to create folders for each frame so I can do cleans and whatnot is a nightmare and seriously hinders the workflow trying to edit frames, it would be great if it did it automatically and showed multiple layers in folders on the timeline as multiple lines. Another thing would be that there’s no independent onion skins; not being able to set the amount of skins independently for forward and back gets a bit annoying and messy. One more thing, the presets… Come on, who animates at 15 fps? Heathens that’s who, 12 and 24 are the standards, you’re setting up some new animators that aren’t aware with a real bad habit.
Anyway, I don’t think it would take much tinkering with the animation feature for procreate to beat 90% of the other animation apps available and I think it’d definitely be worth it since right now trying to do anything more than a simple 10 second animation is like pulling teeth and it has the potential to be so much better.

I really like Procreate there are amazing things you can do on here, but one big complaint I have is that there isn’t much variety in the animation side of this app, I understand that this is more for drawing BUT if you are going to add that feature why not full commit?
One idea I have is instead of having just one animation, you could add the feature of making multiple animations in one, example: say there is a character and next to him is a fire, and you want both to be moving, why not add a separate animation folder to both do you understand what I mean?
Another thing is the problem with backgrounds, in animation sometimes the backgrounds will be moving example: someone is walking down the street, obviously the background would be moving to simulate moving, maybe there could be some sort of ‘scene mover feature’ where you could create one long background and create a way to move it at different speeds or maybe you could do that some other way.
Anyway, those are my thoughts

Incredible. Great value for money!

This app is fantastic for professional artists AND aspiring artists wanting to learn drawing digitally. It’s very easy to use and once you learn what different effects do, you’ll have good fun with experimenting with what’s possible. There are thousands of free downloadable brushes you can import online and it’s kept up to date with new features such as adding text, 3D models and animation. All for a one off payment of £10? You truly get your money’s worth and more. It’s seriously worth every penny! The best art app for iOS by far.
It’s great for those who like me, can’t afford other subscription based drawing programmes. It’s my go-to for digital art. I bought this for University and it hasn’t let me down. I’ve been able to create some amazing professional pieces for my projects. Can’t fault it at all. Great work guys ❤️
(It’s also fab when paired with a Paperlike screen protector for iPad if you don’t like the Apple Pencil sliding across the screen, really feels like you’re drawing on paper. Just take care of your pencil nibs as they can wear down quicker with it.)

A weird glitch/bug

All in all, Procreate is an amazing art app, and I’d recommend it to everyone if interested in digital art, however there a very frustrating glitch that happens to me all the time, I’ll explain:
Let’s say I wrote a word on text, and I wanted to make a shadow effect behind it, I’d duplicate it, make it black, and make it look 3D, but whenever I freehand select it, then copy and paste, if I press any other button it would take me out of the app, and I would have to start all over again. I’ve restarted the app a thousand times and deleted the blank pages and starting over again but it’s annoying and it won’t be fixed. I hope that this makes sense, if not, I’ll try to explain in clearer words.
1. I’d write a word using ‘add text’ button.
2. I’d colour that text in a colour, for example, blue.
3. If I want to make a shadow effect behind it/ 3D effect, I’d freehand select it using the loop button ( it’s the button that looks like a ribbon in the corner of the canvas/screen)
4. Once I do that, I would copy and paste it, and try to place it were I want
5. After that, if I press any other button after that, for example: the layer button, it would glitch me out of the app and I would have to start all over again.
Hope this made sense, please fix this.

I've been trying to use procreate for a few days now; following videos trying to create new brushes, using layers and importing photos. Yet I’m still no further advanced. I can’t pick a selection and move it around without putting it on a separate layer. Everything I do seems to change the colour of my canvas. I can’t return to my original sketch because it only does about 10 undos, then freezes. This system isn’t at all intuitive.
All I want to do is draw a fence around some lettering and move it. I’ve watched video after video and all it is doing is filling in he selection with solid colour. I can’t get off that mode. Half the videos seem to be using an earlier, more straight forward version. I don’t even know what version of procreate I'm using, but I'm frustrated as hell not being able to do simple, straight forward actions. Other than that, it has a lot of settings no other drawing app seems to have.

Great but with flaws

I’ve used Procreate for well over a year now for my business and my degree. It’s a powerful app with a sleek little design, and after 10 years as a digital artist Procreate is the best program for sketching, brushes and overall function by far. It’s easy to use, great for beginners through to experts, incredibly cost effective and I recommend to every artist who has an iPad!
However it has 3 major flaws that are worth docking a star:
Firstly the fill tool, I like the feature where it changes the colour, but honestly there needs to be an easier way to change it to a “regular fill” and please allow us to fill while referring to multiple layers, I’ve been colouring things in manually for a year now, it’s pretty bad.
Secondly the transform tool, when sizing objects up or down, loses a lot of information when compared with it’s competitors like CSP.
But mainly I’m here to talk about number three, the “stacks” feature. When you have hundreds of documents the stacks feature is vital. And the visuals of it really blend in with everything else when there’s so much. Just adding a folder motif to the image of the stack would really tidy it up. Also please let us put stacks inside of stacks, I would stack literally everything!! Thank you!

I’ve used Procreate for over a year, and it’s been a real charm. I love the unique options and layout and I love pretty much everything about it. It’s easy to navigate, and you can even share your art in different file types! However, this new update has left me with a slightly more disappointed feeling. For the most part, the update hasn’t affected me, and I’ve still been able to navigate through it clearly, however there’s this one feature that makes me want to rip my head off. The brush size relative to canvas. Oh my god, please make it optional. I’ve already heard a lot of backlash on that feature and didn’t think it was too bad until I tried it myself. A lot of digital artists zoom in, still WANTING the same brush size just so they can continue their lineart. I zoom in a lot and move the canvas about, that doesn’t mean I want the brush to be smaller or bigger. Please make an optional zoom lock because in the simplest way, it’s annoying, and a nightmare.

There is not kidding that this is the best iOS drawing app however…with its entirety there are a few flaws i have encountered most have been discussed this far but one rarely saw was sometimes when you use pics as layers they don’t show up. I have encountered this a lot but its become a bigger problem as of late. In some cases i will try opening an image and nothing and i used to be able to open a canvas and it would import the image but now even that has stopped working i went to see whether it was a updating issue which was resolved and i just hadn’t updated the app yet but the i saw that the last update was 1 months ago so i tried the next week the the next and then waited another month and then realised it was just a flaw i had to get used to but its just not good if I’m trying to pull a picture to reference or previous work that needs revising and although it irks me the app itself is great like i said best i have tried and I have been doing minor digital art work for the past few years so I have really tried them all

There’s no denying that Procreate is an amazing app, and by far the best drawing app on the App Store. One of the additions that I was really excited for, however, was the animation tool. But sadly, I was disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, the animation system itself is fantastic. It’s reasonably easy to use, if a bit confusing at first. The let down was that there is no option to add audio. I believe that this would vastly improve the animation system and would bring it into regular use for me.
Another thing that is slightly lacking are the paint brushes. Not going to lie, the ones that are there feel stiff, and not at all like real paint. Some of the newer ones are better, but the older ones either need to be replaced or updated.
Anyways, if you’re thinking about buying this app for animation, I would recommend against it.
However if you have used photoshop and own brushes, you can use them in Procreate! This gives you access to the vastly superior paint brushes available for purchase.
Even without bonuses, the barebones app is still nice to use, it’s sleek and easy to navigate, and I’ve improved my digital art a lot through using it.

The app itself is great for drawing and image manipulation, however it seems to experience a number of user interface issues, particularly regarding image exporting options. Most recently this has included the “send via Messenger” option not showing up most of the time even in the “More” section, and when it does appear either failing to send either in bulk or even individual images, or not prioritising the most recent messenger profile exported to (meaning you need to scroll through a lengthy list of people every time you want to export an image, especially problematic when dealing with multiple images that can’t be sent in bulk).
Edit: Facebook messenger seems to only allow up to 9 images to be sent at a time. The “send via messenger” option only appears for me when I select more than 9 images, meaning it fails to send.

Great app, but really needs to ask “Are you sure?”

I’ve used many types of creative software and apps and this app is very very good. But with all of the time that goes into creating artwork, you really need to ensure it’s not lost in a moment. To accidentally press Gallery and find you have saved your progress for good or for bad, without being able to click undo if you didn’t mean to is a big problem for those of us with little time available.
So the app really needs to ask “Are you sure you want to exit?” to avoid hours of work being ruined. It would be a 5 star app if it had this. When you are in the zone and being creative, you sometimes press the wrong button. Mostly it’s just an error you can undo, but click “gallery” and you are scuppered.
Please sort this out! Thank you for a great app. :)

So I have used this app for about a month and I’m really impressed with it, and I would really recommend this to anyone who wants to do any kind of digital art. However I started to notice a problem that occurred just recently for me. It’s hard to describe but I was colouring in with a pen in a dark saturation. But then I keep colouring in and a few seconds in the colour switches to a lighter saturation for some reason.
Another problem, although a minor one, is that whenever I try to fill in my lineart with colour using the drag and drop function, it always covers the entire page when I only want to fill in a particular part of my lineart that is closed off and has no open gaps.
I would love to continue using this app as I really like using it but these problems are quite annoying and I can’t find a solution to them. I restart the app and the problem still occurs so if anyone knows how to fix any of these problems I would very much appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi there, I’ve never actually taken the time to write up a review before, but I felt this was needed. As far as the app goes I think it’s amazing, especially for the price. If you compare it to photoshop which is about 10-20 pounds a MONTH. But I know it isn’t write to compare the two as I’m pretty sure photoshop was created more for the use of editing purposes rather than drawing although ofcourse you still can draw with it. I have no complaints to add although sometimes for me the app crashes which is a bit inconvenient but I never end up losing any progress so it’s not that much of a big deal, a feature I would love to see in the app is folders inside folders. As I have a very broad range of projects in my gallery I’d find it very useful to be able to put the already existing folders inside an extra folder which is not a very big feature to add but I feel would be very useful as at the moment my gallery is very unorganized and messy and hard to navigate around and find all my projects. But for anyone who’s into drawing, or painting art of any kind really I feel like it’s a must have, a necessity. Definitely worth the price for all that you get! 10/10 drawing app.

At first when I downloaded this, I thought I had just wasted my money but after a while, I got used to the app and it is definitely worth the money, better than any other drawing app I’ve ever used. On the left side of the screen there is a tab, at first I did not know what this was for but realised shortly that, the top on can control the size of the brush, the square in the middle is used as a colour picker and the bottom one is for the opacity of the brush. There are about 190 preset brushes and you can create your own. This app is also really good for organisation so if you’re a neat freak, this app is definitely for you. One thing I would also get with this app is an apple pencil, it’s much easier to draw with an apple pencil on this app than your finger or a stylus, especially because there is an settings/editing section for an apple pencil.
Overall, this app is definitely worth it and I would recommend buying it and it’s much better than having to pay monthly but, can take a while to get used to so I would recommend creating a new canvas and trying out the different things like settings, brushes, blending, ext.

Best app for drawing/manipulating but is buggy!

Fix the bugs and I’ll give it 5*! It freezes frequently when cutting out parts of layers freehand, and when using the rotate/warp tools it will suddenly not let me rotate the layer I’m tweaking even if I stop using the function and come back to it. This can happen even if just using one layer.
Aside from this it by far trumps the Adobe iPad apps and is incredibly versatile for drawing/manipulating/designing images.
I also wish they’d add the option to move the undo button to the right middle toolbar with the brush sliders like on Fresco, so much easier to use with free left hand that way. Additionally “cut/copy to layer”option would be so useful! Can still do this the long way but it is a nuisance when there’s lots to cut cross and takes changing between layers a bunch of times when it could just be one click.

Dear Procreate,
I have one problem to address which is the colour match button (which is in the middle of the brush size and opacity bar) it has stopped working unfortunately. And it bugs me allot. If you still do not know what I am talking about I am trying to say that the button which matches any colour on your artwork instead of finding it on the colour disc has stopped working. If I am doing something wrong please let me know as soon as possible. This issue has been going on for a few days now, I have tried updating it but it says that this app does not need any updating. Please also let me know if you have moved the colour matcher somewhere else on Procreate. Other than that, this app is really entertaining and I have made many artworks that I am proud of. Please fix this problem and reply as soon as you can.
Your Procreate user.

The kind of thing you don’t know has been missing from your life until you use it and start enjoying all other software less. It’s very user-friendly, clearly optimised as a mobile app - what I mean by that, and what, in my opinion, makes Procreate more successful than other drawing software, is that the interface is cleverly designed to facilitate a natural, comfortable, and efficient workflow (making the most of a pen-touch combo). It’s also not too cluttered. But everything else about it is just as smooth - the brushes are incredible! Using this on an iPad Pro 2018. The one thing to know is that there is a layer limit here, and the higher resolution your image is, the lower that limit. But, personally, I’ve completely adapted to using Procreate for most of my illustration and concept art work. The only thing I could wish for is that one day we get a more advanced animation timeline.
A small bonus, which always makes a difference to me, is that the team behind Procreate seems to be made of cool people who are genuinely passionate about what they do - of course, they could just be very professional, but I think that enthusiasm and love of the craft show in the software. Updates are awesome. Procreate is worth the hype!

This is a really great app that can give professional results with ease. The only things stopping it from being 5 star is that there are some clunky design choices. If you accidentally merge a hidden layer with a visible one, don’t expect to see it again, that’s right it’s gets deleted! For such a destructive action you’d expect there to be a warning message or simply never allow a hidden layer to be merged or deleted (there is NO scenario when someone would want to do this anyway!) You can hit undo of course BUT.... It’s also too easy to accidentally hit the button that returns you to the gallery view and this wipes any ‘undo’ memory so if you accidentally hit exit after you do something bad like, I don’t know merge with a hidden layer, you will not be able to undo it, so potentially, you can lose months of work in an instant. These two actions are too easy to do and are devastatingly destructive and has caused me lose hours of work, so I really hope this gets fixed soon so I can stop living in fear of accidentally losing months of work. More customisations would help too. Despite all this, I highly recommend.

So I bought an iPad purely to then be able to use Procreate. I’ve never been a digital artist and it is different to pen and paper, but in a good way. It has encouraged me to be so much more creative. I’m making art every day instead of once a month, it has definitely given me more creative freedom whether that’s because there’s an ease to erase, throw away, or to simply correct mistakes or because it allows to add such finesse to a work. It is like a really snazzy version of photoshop, except you can do so much more with this, it has the sensitivity of touch and use of a pen that you need that photoshop simply won’t allow for. The gestures and interactions between your physical touch and the screen are becoming like a second language the more I use it. I may not have perfected my digital skills yet completely but it has been so good for my creative side breaking out of my sketchbook and motivational restrictions.

I have a few annoying problems.

Okay, this is a okay app. I’m glad I didn’t have to pay monthly and the brushes and the layering and stuff like that is good but I don’t really recommend using the animation on this app because a layer counts as a frame so it’s really hard to do the animations. I always start with a sketch, then add a layer and do the lineart but in animation, I can’t do that so I really struggle to use it. And also, I wanted to animate a dog walking, so I decided to import my video of my dog walking so I could use it as a reference to help me with this animation. It was a one second video so I thought it would be alright and import perfectly fine. Well, it did import and show a tick which means it did do it, and then it put me on the canvas with the video but you could only see the video for a split second and then it disappears. Why does it do that? I edited the video to make it one second because I thought it may be to long so I made it short! All that time wasted. And two days ago I managed to get a video on perfectly fine but now I can’t a video of my dog in! Why? Please, please fix this! It’s driving me around the bend and it’s stupid. Fix this. Apart from that, good app I recommend it if you want to draw (not animate but it could work for some people but I struggle with it) but yeah it’s worth the price do get it apart from those few things

So my Apple Pencil broke, as in the tip snapped, and now I have to make do with an old touchscreen pen. I am getting another Apple Pencil soon, but I have to use the touchscreen pen, which isn’t necessarily bad. Although, the pen makes it really insensitive and it’s really hard to zoom in and out and turn it around. The features are all great and it still works perfectly fine, but also the fact that the pressure feature and calligraphy pens don’t work as well, but I’m not putting that in the app, that is my own problem. It is hard to draw as you have to put a lot of pressure and when you do that, it says: undo *said instruction*, which is annoying, but I can deal with it. I don’t know if it is just from my experience, but I just wanted to put it out there just in case anyone else has that same problem. Other than all of that, it is a great app that I use everyday for my hand lettering and designs, I’m just saying, you might want to use an actual Apple Pencil or touchscreen pencil for stuff like this. Thank you.

I’ve been doing art commissions for a while now, I used to use Sketchbook Pro on a Windows 10 tablet PC, but was eventually forced to upgrade due to a broken machine. I decided on an iPad Pro, and Procreate had already been on my radar for quite some time. The UI is deceptively simple, Procreate is very powerful and extensive in it’s tools and gestures.
Going through the handbook is simple to understand, and you will be flying with your work compared to other software designed for illustration, taking only a few days to get used to it despite having used Sketchbook for years. I find it difficult to imagine a better digital illustrator’s experience than Procreate on an iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil.
Before I just sound like I’m just trying to sell a product, I truly believe every word I say; the iPad Pro may not be best tool for workflows that incorporate 3D software such a blender, or extensive post production of illustrations, but from a purely digital illustration point of view, I really don’t think there is currently a better product right now. This software truly is made for the hardware, and I greatly enjoy working with it.
At £10, it’s an absolute no-brainer. Fantastically worth it.

Amazing app, just one problem

This app is honestly the best £10 I’ve spent. I usually don’t buy paid apps, but my friend kept recommending me to buy it all the time, and in the end I wasn’t disappointed. The brushes and tools are amazing; the amount of creativity you can put into this app is just endless. However, there’s one thing that bugs me: The 72 frame limit. Animation is kinda my thing, so while exploring the extremely helpful, “Animation Assist” setting, I was planning on making a short animated episode. I started right away, but before I was even a minute in on the project, I got a notice saying I had reached the maximum limit of 72 frames! It left me a little discouraged, but it would be great if you added unlimited frames to the animation assist instead of having only 72. This would be great if someone wanted to animate a short film or an explanation video. I hope you can take my review into consideration and add a change in the future. Thanks for the amazing app!

I don’t normally write these but since it’s procreate, I’d say it’s worth my time. Procreate is by far the best and easiest drawing app ever. Well let’s be honest, at first I didn’t really think about how to actually use it...I just drew lol that was also when I thought my drawings looked OK but now when I look back I realize how weak they looked without the layers and other features I didn’t know then, in fact layers are like the key thing in procreate, drawing becomes so much easier if you use layers. Over time I’ve learnt how to use other useful tools like the select tool and a few others— now that I’ve mastered those features procreate feels good to draw with! (Well I’ve always thought that) I’m so used to procreate that I even try to draw with procreate features in paper without thinking😂
So like I said it’s a really fun and easy app to use once you get used to it....I mean even the animation tool is there! For me drawing is way easier and better looking in procreate than paper...not to mention the price is also very cheap for an excellent app like procreate ... only $10!
I would highly recommend this app if you wanna do digital art, procreate is the reason why I wanted an iPad after all! ヽ(^o^)

Really fantastic app I have come from a laptop + drawing tablet and feel so much more free to do what I want with the ipad and Procreate. Doing mainly architecture drawings I feel like the perspective tool is fantastic and a great help for shading, and the range of brushes let me do most things I require.
Little pains with the program have been the ability to import photoshop brushes I have a few nice promarker brushes I can’t import( not sure if I’ve just not researched enough to get it to work though) and a mass colour select ( just like select colour range in photoshop), but the selections are good just a little slower. Honing on the selections I still haven’t found a way to mass fill a selection in an already coloured mask to add to the mask quickly. Really small issues to be honest but if they were fixed it would be a perfect app to render with. If I’m being really cheeky some vector brushes would be fantastic but one can always dream.
Fantastic works 9/10 am still unsure if I’m just not using the app properly and need to do more research to find all the tools I need.

I still love this product - by far the most used and appreciated graphics app I have. The only gripe I have is with the latest update the automatic select colour option has stopped working in the selection tool. Whenever I try using it, the whole layer is selected instead of just the selected colour, which prevents me copying and overlaying for various tasks. I can still use the freehand selection, but it’s very time consuming and far less user friendly.
Still one of the best apps available - hands down.
* Edited to add - I found that you can alter the colour threshold setting which makes it functional again. Nice feature making this adjustable - but it’s frustratingly hidden! There’s so many useful and amazing features in this app, but you need to hunt for most of them! A full comprehensive tutorial would be beneficial for most users. I’m sure I’m missing some features that I’d love just because the interface is so streamlined.
(Still my favourite app!)

Procreate is an amazing app. The new version 5 makes it even better. The interface is still beautifully simple, but it really is silky smooth.
Honestly, Apple should ask Savage what algorithms they are using to create the 6B Pencil, because it is miles better than the version that Apple created (no doubt with a considerably bigger team than Savages!) It flows just right. It feels lovely to use. It is much nicer than the Apple Notes pencil.
(I really wish that some of the notetaking apps like GoodNotes had access to it!)
I mention this, because for simply drawing, even if you don’t make use of most of the features, it is immense.
It is also amazing value. It costs £9.99 and they gave this (massive) update from version 4 to 5 free to existing users. Which now has a ton more features. In comparison Photoshop for Ipad is a joke. Adobe conned people by claiming to be developing ‘full’ Photoshop in the keynote in Nov 2018 (and showed an image with about 80 layers on an IPad Pro to reinforce the fiction) and then after a whole further year of development put out a garbage release in Nov 2019 that does virtually nothing, and that they want you to pay more for EVERY MONTH then Savage charges as a one-off payment for Procreate. Crazy!
Massive thanks Guys. This is an ESSENTIAL purchase for everyone who owns an IPad Pro and an Apple Pencil. It is EPIC and deserves all the success it will no doubt continue to have.

Part of my role as a senior university lecturer in fine art, graphics, illustration and concept art for games involves introducing students to digital technology. It is a source of great pleasure to see students especially those reticent to move away from traditional mediums and process’s fully embrace their iPads and apple pencils. Without Procreate this adopting of new technologies and approaches to making Art was much more difficult but because of the way the program is designed it’s now as easy as giving candy to a baby. How do other developers get it so wrong when Procreate gets it so right?
I shall continue to enthusiastically evangelise for Procreate and suspect that the version 5 with its animation element will enhance my professional and personal art practice. Thanks for providing the next generation with software that seems to be designed by artists for artists. Brilliant.

Amazing App But One Problem

I love how versatile Procreate is. While it is a drawing app, I also use it to edit photos and collage images. I have switched from the Adobe apps to Procreate, and it is the best decision I have made - totally worth the £9.99 investment! There are so many more brushes to choose from and I no longer feel the need to download more. It is clean and easy to use.
I don’t have much to fault with this app. The only thing I would really like changed is to have the brush settings saved per project. This is a feature I had on my old drawing software and it’s so useful. I hate going back to an old drawing that I never finished and seeing that my brush colour, size or opacity has changed to match my most recent project. It’s so hard to think back to months ago and remember what brush you were last using and what size or opacity you used. It then becomes a lengthy process of trial and error until you get it right. If there is a fix for this, I would really appreciate it, as would many artists!

The reason I bought an iPad.

I’ve been using Procreate for years and it keeps getting better and better with each iteration. The price has remained incredibly reasonable over this time and it’s brilliant that the developers have kept it as a single purchase price. The temptation to go to a subscription model, both financially and by Apple must be great. What you get for, currently (2019) £10, is incredible. I’ll not go into detail about the range of creative possibilities but they are wide and the apps functionality is largely well thought through and user friendly, as it’s designed for the iPad and not an evolution of a desktop app. There are rarely issues with bugs and the team really do a great job of sorting issues out as quickly as they can. There is a great community around the app as well and much support for the developers. Basically, this app, for creative designers, illustrators, and painters (and more recently, animators) is a reason to buy the iPad, (even the more affordable models), and Apple are very lucky to have it on their platform.

I’ve been using Procreate for a while now and it’s been an amazing art program, I’d definitely recommend it for both beginners and pros alike.
The issue I’m having is that whenever I try to delete an artwork, it never actual ‘deletes’. Instead it turns into a transparent version of the canvas which takes up space, as opposed to disappearing entirely. (To be more specific, I’m selecting them and then deleting them, not just deleting the drawing layers or anything like that. I’m trying to delete the whole canvas.)
I haven’t figured out a way to delete them properly yet, and while I’ve looked at the Procreate help forums and various guides, I can’t find anyone having a similar problem. I would have reported this in one of said forums but I can’t remember my account login details and it’s not recognising any of my usual emails/usernames.

Everything is fantastic!

I love this app. I’ve been using it for a few years now, and it’s not something you just learn immediately as everyone seems to think. Though the app it’s self is fantastic,Procreate is something you have to work at to understand, and once you know how to use it, you have a wide variety of tools at your fingertips, ready for your creative disposal. Anywhere, anytime.
The brushes are brilliant. I find myself experimenting with new tools everyday, and pushing myself to find new illustration techniques has led me to discovering digital methods I would have never previously used.
Regarding suggestions, a date keeper would be brilliant for time lapsing video footage, and keeping track of dates when things are touched up or changed as the painting progresses. When you exit the canvas for example, that is your last edit and the time stamp is engraved into the painting or drawing. It can sometimes be difficult to prove to others that I have created an idea at a certain point, and so a feature like this would be especially effective in supporting something like this.
I love this app and hope to continue using it in the future to develop my artwork. It’s opened up a really wide canvas for me to create with, and I always find something new to play with every day. Just keep moving forward, and you’ll always discover something new.

Trust me when I say I don’t use these words lightly. This app is incredible in every way. From ease of use, changes to brushes and effects to suit individual styles and touch interface/shortcuts, along with so many more functions they continue to add - such as symmetry, drawing guides, text, layer effects along the way.
Just as I’m amazed at Procreate’s abilities they add more features to add to my ever growing adoration list for this app. This app has singlehandedly re-established my love of illustration and I couldn’t be happier having a hobby that’s brought me so much inner joy back into my life.
Additionally, the developers allow updates and new features to be added naturally, rather than demanding more money for an updated version like so many others attempt to do. Meaning we as customers feel valued and like our purchase of the app is worthy. For that alone, I hold so much respect for everyone that contributes to this incredible app and I can only thank you all from the bottom of my heart.

As someone who bought an iPad purely for creating art, it was a good couple of years before I found Procreate, and when I initially bought it I was so scared of leaving behind what I had been used to for two years that I didn’t try it much for about another year. One evening I decided to look at something I sketched to get used to it, and just started playing around with the features, and before I knew it, it was 4am. I’ve never gone back to the main app I used before then, InspirePro. Procreate is incredibly intuitive and very user friendly, and you can achieve reasonable results fair quickly. It supports broad file formats, and the quick replay is a wonderful feature that I found by accident. I’ve started playing with Affinity Designer as well, however, this is something I know I’ll be using in conjunction with Procreate. I couldn’t recommend it more.

Fantastic app for a variety of styles.

This is a great app that I started using again after seeing a demonstration of Procreate’s perspective tools. The app has grown immensely from the early version that I used many years ago. As a professional artist working on comics, storyboards, commercial illustration and concept art I’ve found that I can use Procreate for almost all of my work which has left my cintiq companion gathering dust over the last few months.
This app is so intuitive to use it is pretty astonishing! The only function I would like to see added to it at this time would be the ability to either save multiple perspective set-ups so that I can easily switch between different set-ups for different panels when working on comic pages rather than having to rearrange the perspective guide. I think a lot of sequential artists would appreciate this as you could then work up an entire page’s worth of panels rather than have to work through panel by panel or rearrange the perspective guide.
Other than this suggestion, big thumbs up from me 👍👍👍

My favourite drawing app, hands down. I graduated to this app after using both Photoshop and Sketchbook Pro on PC, and I couldn't go back.
The layer options are fantastic and allow you to achieve some incredible colouring and lighting effects with ease.
The gestures are tactile with brilliant palm rejection provided you set the palm rejection to 'fine' in the advanced settings.
By far the best feature of this app is the brushes. It's so simple to create your own by duplicating and tweaking the ones already there, I don't find myself needing to download any at all because the presets are so good. Unlike photoshop.
The price is great too, considering it's a one time purchase the value is incredible. I've spent so much more on subscriptions to Photoshop and Sketchbook.
The only thing this app lacks is a good ruler, compass, lazymouse, but what I feel it needs most is a symmetry feature. All of which can be found in Autodesk Sketchbook, I often find myself in need of these features and thus resorting to Sketchbook to block out an image and then importing into Procreate to finish it, but would much prefer it if I could use these features in Procreate. This app is fantastic, but with the addition of these features it would be perfect. Please please pretty please Savage.
