Audio Issues

Whenever I watch a show on this app the audio will randomly go up and down in volume without me changing my device’s volume settings. At first I thought it was my headphones but I only have the issue on this app. Would be great to have this addressed and would warrant a five star rating from me.

Unwatchable streaming application

Ever since I have started using Stan on an iPhone, I have encountered multiple reoccurring bugs every single time I open up the app. I get audio cutting out for minutes at a time when trying to watch anything on 4G/5G or Wifi. I stream the exact same thing from my PC on a web browser and never have that issue. I open up the app and try navigating to another page or scroll down and get reset to the front page with the ridiculous banner that takes up 3/4 of the page and have to rush to get to something I want to watch before it does it again. And just now I’ve got subtitles not syncing up with video at all, which is ridiculous because when the audio drop out bug occurs it is then totally impossible to watch anything unless you can read lips and from the back of someone’s head too. Fix this app.

Seriously poor app experience

This latest app release does not appear to have been tested. The app now takes over 45 sec to load programs and you regularly need multiple attempts to get an episode to load. It is a very very poor user experience.

Do NOT subscribe if you want to download and watch offline!

I have been trying repeatedly to download anything and it does not work. I keep getting the error message ‘You have exceeded your device limit for your downloads’but I have ZERO downloads. I had 4 downloads in my phone which had been deleted and a tv logged in with no downloads. I deleted the 4 shows on my phone and logged out of all devices even though my tv has never had downloads. Still hours later I get the same error message. It is infuriating as now I have nothing to watch on the plane now. The subscription is a rip off I’ll be cancelling.

UCI downhill coverage

Extremely annoyed, only paying for stan and stan sport purely to watch UCI DH coverage and this coverage has been very limited only showing the 2nd main and not both days. Ive now cancelled the sports package as its excessive for the limited coverage.

Can’t download full rugby games

Only got the app for the union and I can no longer download entire matches to watch, don’t know why this has changed but it’s a bit of a piss take, I’m frequently out of mobile service or in poor coverage areas and used to love being able to plan ahead and download matches to watch. Bring back the full replay downloads and receive 5 stars

Constantly freezing and not loading

I love Stan, has really good shows and everything. But for the last month it has constantly been freezing despite having NBN and 5 G wifi. App disconnects from streaming constantly also. All the other streaming apps I use work totally fine but lately Stan has been a nightmare. All of my friends Stans have been the same when I’ve asked as well. So annoying.

Phone based app cannot control account

Netflix allows account control from the app, Stan does not. You have to log in via web browser to control subscriptions. The quality of content isn’t worth $16 a month for HD, paying extra for sports or Olympics isn’t worth it. The app isn’t polished enough to be considered premium.

Brings back memories

Love this it has some great scary movies and great kids movies and shows brings back so many childhood memories love it and I love how you can watch the olympics but you have to pay for it I really wanted to watch the Olympics an paralympics (I wanted to see the blind football) but I didn’t get to watch much of the Olympics now I have to wait 4 years. 3 stars because of the price and paying for the olympics

Have been using Stan for about 2 months, and it is probably the worst streaming service I have used.
Audio is often out of sink, when watching TV shows or movies. Watching anything live is a whole different story; Nothing works.

Terrible app on the Samsung tv

I got the app for the Paris Olympics and had non-stop issues of events not loading, being shown blank screens and not being able to always navigate across different live events. Many unhelpful emails to Stan support who basically just said log out and log back. Paid a high monthly rate for a very glitchy app, where I logged in and out daily. Do not recommend

Rubbish Olympics Coverage

The worst coverage of the Olympics in years. Your apps (handheld and TV) constantly crash for no reason and don’t remember where you were if watching coverage from the start - especially infuriating when trying to watch the golf back given it’s such a long event. There are bizarrely long gaps between heats in event coverage and no timer/countdown/indication as to when things might start up again. It’s just bad.

Bug I want you to fix please

Hi Stan team, I’ve been experiencing a small bug on my apple app: Transiting from picture-in-picture back to full screen in app it, it cuts out and takes me to the home screen. The show has gone back to the last time I paused or went from picture-in-picture to the app to watch again after a failed transition. I’m positive you can fix this :) Thanks

Good content, not user friendly

I got Stan for the Olympics and I'm shocked that it doesn't remember what I've been watching. I'm roughly 2hrs through watching the replay of an event and then return to it later and it doesn't remember where I'm up to, the only option is to stay the replay again, and find where I'm up to manually...?
Also, beware, I understood from their advertising that you can get commentating from other international broadcasters, this isn't the case, you can only watch a live stream from an international broadcaster.

What's live isn't live at the Olympic Games

Who ever controls the "live" button should be sacked.
More often than not when attempting to go to something that's being shown as live has nothing happening whatsoever.

Terrible app.

I find this app really annoying, clearly no one tested it out before updating it for the olympics. You can’t find ANYTHING, and I am seriously wondering if this was designed by kids at school, and adults didn’t check it out before updating. This truely ruined the olympics for me. 9Now is just as bad if not WORSE! I hope you take this in to consideration as this is spoiling the olympics for us. We would be thrilled if there were other platforms that also show the olympics as this app would get deleted immediately. I am appalled.

Terrible App!

The app is extremely difficult to use- when watching sport you cannot switch streams without the program severely disfunctioning. Furthermore, if there are multiple users on the platform, this issue becomes even worse!! If there were alternative platforms to watch rugby/olympics on, we would switch in an instant! 9Now is just as bad! Please fix!

Olympic coverage

Paying an additional $15 on top of the subscription in order to watch the olympics I expected a hell of a lot better outcome!

Unreliable, and nowhere near as good as Foxsport!

The Stan app is unreliable and not representative of the subscription fee.
have a high speed subscription with NBN, and it should not fail as often as it does.
Recently, I tried to watch a Wallaby match, but the app kept failing and would not take me to the start, but rather continually took me to the final 10 minutes of the game. As you can appreciate, the experience was now ruined!
This poor coverage will further consign Australian Rugby Union to the doldrums, as it’s simply too hard to watch it.
Stan provide an incredibly poor service for what it purports to be. . Many people comment to me as to how bad Stan’s reliable coverage is, and that more often than not, if you try to watch the start of a game it fails. Then in the middle of a game it crashes!
It is not even close to what Foxsports provided.
You pay for a service, and you get continually let down, over and over again.
Not to mention, that Stan also tried to cover the tennis, but then ran games with no commentary - incredibly bizarre!
They need to seriously review how they offer sport, because it is unacceptable and well below professional standards of sporting coverage.
Please bring our sports back to Foxsports or some other platform that can deliver.

Support Lacking.

Unfortunately the support from Stan is not great. We have had constant problems and the service just does not work and continues to have issues which they cannot provide answers for ( we purchased a brand new smart tv as they advised there could “possibly” be issues if the tv was not updated. The support is I would consider very poor and the run around that we have received was incredibly disappointing. Email support will basically gather the information from you in your initial support form requesting all of the information on why you are sending the support request and approximately 15 minutes later you’ll get a reply asking you what is wrong… then you reply again and several hours later or the next day you will then receive the next contact…. This was my experience.
There are plenty of streaming channels out there, and unfortunately this one just does not represent as it works intermittently and has constant issues.

Appallingly buggy app

While Stan itself is a pretty decent service, this is a review of the app and not the Stan streaming service. This app has got to be easily the most buggy video streaming app I’ve ever used. Sounds cute out randomly, videos jump forward really quickly, the whole thing freezes, it doesn’t play if you use an ad block (even though it’s a paid service), the “skip” buttons for episode previews and start nexts usually don’t work, even the UI is annoying and clunky, and randomly it will entirely stop working and you have to completely close and reopen the application.
Very very very frustrating app, I would rather use any other streaming service (except I don’t get a choice cause Stan hold exclusive things).

Well

Stan is a great streaming service. In fact I might even say it’s the best Australian streaming service in terms of range of content and it’s always been the place to see an episode of a really interesting show that you’re not going to find anywhere else.
Particularly if you want to watch that episode over and over again, because it’s 2023 and you’re on the latest version of the app and yet it still hasn’t mastered the concept of remembering what you’ve watched accurately. This has always been a problem with this app to some extent (I’ve been a subscriber since the beginning) and it never seems to be fixed properly despite them regularly updating it, so the people behind it must just be a fan of people annoyingly scrubbing through stuff they’ve already watched to get to the episode they’re actually up to.
This is a pretty basic requirement for a streaming app but the fact it does it on the iPhone, iPad and Apple TV apps (the Apple TV app that also, incidentally, always plays everything at roughly double the volume of any other app) and has since launch suggests it to be a feature, not a bug.

Needs a better app

I enjoy listening to the audio of my favourite movies and tv shows however it’s really annoying that the app doesn’t allow me to play the audio with the screen turned off when I’m wearing AirPods and that it also doesn’t allow me to play the audio if there is a mini player when screen is turned off. No other streaming app has this issue so I urge Stan to fix this problem since I love the content Stan offers and would love to be able to enjoy my comfort movies without draining my phone’s battery life and while I’m doing other work.

Stan doesn’t deserve 1 star

There is so many things wrong with this app I don’t even know where to begin. 1. I’ve downloaded some episodes from a series, once I’ve watched a few I delete them, unfortunately everytime I try to delete them they magically reappear in my downloads again. 2. When I try to watch the show I will sometimes get an error message pop up in the middle of my screen, not allowing me to watch the series, the only way around this I have found is to close the app and restart my device. 3. When I’m in the middle of watching a show and need to pause it, I will press the pause button only for it to continue playing, have to press it a few times before it actually registers that I’ve pressed pause. 4. If I’m halfway through an episode and pause and close the app it won’t remember where I was at.

Most greedy streaming service there is!

Signing up to this can be done pretty much from anything with a screen, no problem with that. But if you wanna cancel your service, you need to specifically use a PC or Mac, because it can has to be done through their website (with apps not having a cancel option) and only their browsers are compatible. Once you’re there, you’ll have to click a number of dialogue boxes, asking twice if you’re sure to cancel, and a final time offering you to downgrade to a service with fewer features just to try and keep you on board. Then if you’re finally able to unsubscribe, there’s a huge banner on top of your screen with a large Reactivate button that will resume your service with just a single click.
To get 4K, you need to have the highest available plan at $21 a month, while other streaming services give you the same quality at just the standard subscription. And Stan Sport requires you to have the streaming as well, so $10 a month plus whatever plan you’re in.
The service just happens to be too greedy and underhanded they almost want you not to be able to complete the cancellation. It’s so easy to subscribe, but difficult and tricky to stop it. They seem to want to get away with a few monthly charges before some members figure out how to unsubscribe. Shame!

Not easy to stream to TV

After installing the Stan app we found we couldn’t stream to our TV via either Chromecast or the Lightning to HDMI Adapter. It turns out after we found a Stan support article relating to Chromecast, it’s necessary to manually unable Local Network Access with the iOS permission settings, which was the last recommendation in the article and should have been the first, because the app doesn’t prompt you for permission before attempting to locate a Chromecast device on the network. As for streaming through the official Apple Lightning to HDMI adapter, which works with other streaming apps including the Apple TV app that doesn’t support Chromecast, from what I’ve read the Stan app doesn’t support the use of the Lightning HDMI adapter.

Buggy Continue Watching

The continue watching feature is failing to complete its job, it’s very inconsistent in tracking my progress on shows that I’m watching, it would sometimes push me back an episode or not track the episodes I’ve watched at all. Which then makes me go search through the episodes to find out where I’ve left off, which could efficiently be done if the feature worked properly. I would really appreciate if you guys would fix this issue since it’s a major part of the viewing experience.

Inconsistent continue watching

I have had an issue where if I stop watching something and go back later the continue watching goes back to the start of the previous episode and going back to the episode I was up to it restarts. Had this issue trying to watch rupauls drag race uk season 2 trying to watch the rest of episode 3 instead it starts episode 2 again I skip it to episode 3 again and need to manually try to find about where I was watching because it seems to think I’d never watched it. I’m not interested in watching the same episode again. This issue on my second profile in app only started after most recent update to app though have had the issue in general on my first profile for years and was a reason I made the secondary profile in hopes to not have the issue

Terrible app

I’ve consistently had issues with this app, and the features are just plain annoying. After yet another issue I’ve experienced with the apps I feel it’s time to write a review. One particularly annoying feature of the app is the automatic preview that plays for shows or sports when you hover your cursor or selection over the tile; this is extremely loud and overrides any muting you’ve done on your tv. I have to play game to try and re-mute the tv when the preview begins so I don’t wake anyone who is sleeping. I honestly wish the champions league remained with Optus sport (and even kayo), they do sport streaming 100x better than Stan sport. For example, was trying to watch a replay and the user functionality to start from the beginning and skip ahead by 10 or 30 seconds is flaky on the tv app, and unfortunately skipped ahead to the live feed which ruined the score for me. Never had any issues with the other platforms. Looking forward to when European football comps return to Optus sport / leave Stan sport.

App on all devices struggles with internet connection

First off I have to say content wise Stan is my favourite library, they have so much good content to choose from.
Unfortunately I find that the app struggles with internet connection. It’s across all devices, phone, iPad, Apple TV and smart tv. The app is always updated so it’s not a problem with what version I’m on. I pay for the fastest speed nbn since lockdown because of wfh needs. All my other streaming apps (5 addition apps) have no issues and everything plays flawlessly, but Stan constantly stop, starts, stops, starts for buffering. I don’t know how many times it tells me I have no internet connection when the modem is right next to the tv and all the other apps are performing fine. I have no idea why this app has such trouble grabbing on to internet connection but it does.

Good content, almost unwatchable on my phone

Content is good. But if I close the app, pause, rewind or even touch the progress bar, the episode returns to the start. I’ve restarted the app, downloaded the episode, uninstalled, reinstalled… I’ve tried everything but I’m unable to skip forward and return to the point that I was previously watching. It just takes be back to the start of the episode every single time. This is really annoying when you’re 30 minutes into something and it forces you to rewatch the whole thing just to get up to where you were before. Is there anything that can be done to fix this? This app is virtually unusable for me right now because of this issue.

Good content but app experience terrible

The app experience is opposite than friendly it has so many glitches from audio to login . Sometimes it cut you off and you’ll need to login again, some others time doesn’t keep tracked the last episode you watched but the worst one was today … the app is play some audio from a content and it doesn’t stop even if I’m start a new content playing simultaneously two audios. Get the app in the hand of some good developers and fix all these problems otherwise is useless keep the membership active !!

Good Content -Criminal Account Keeping

Hi all, I join Stan to get variety of content as I find it nice to swap between different paid supplies. All was well at first and I really enjoyed the variety of series and movies on offer. The problem is that I canceled my subscription with Stan, and got notification when my subscription would be terminated. It wasn’t obvious but the following month I found that Stan had actually made another automatic direct debit from my bank account. The following month they went fishing in my bank account making two direct debits from my account but were declined. I had plenty of funds in my bank account but I incurred a bank penalty for this. Two days later Stan was back another direct debit from my account for standard fee. One month later yet again still a non member they were back with another direct debit from my account. It wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t cancel my subscription 3 months prior. So be careful when dealing with this company as they like to gain access to your money even when you’ve canceled your subscription.

Needs a lot work!

I stream soccer on Optus, and it works without a hitch. I recently started streaming soccer on Stan because they bought the rights to the European Championship for 3 years. OMG I’ve gone into a time warp to the early days of the internet!! Cant resume where I left off; sound gets out of sync with the video; sometimes no commentary at all ; don’t fast forward too fast because it just stays in the same spot.... None off this happens on Optus. C’mon Stan, I’m paying extra every month now for the soccer, at least use a decent streaming plugin- maybe ask Optus what they use and license that 😝. To be perfectly clear - these issues did not exist when the European Championship was streaming on Optus

OK for live football, terrible highlights

The live Champions League matches are great, they stream nicely, decent bitrate, no complaints.
Edit: actually, I do have a complaint. During round 4 in the CL, the audio lagged considerably on all devices I tried. Nothing more annoying than seeing a goal and the commentator only reacting 2 seconds later.
However, the highlights are ridiculous. The 4 minute ones are roughly cut, not even smoothing out the commentary and the 10 min ones, well, I don’t know who runs the edits here. How can you highlight a 2-0 game in 10 mins and not show eg a disallowed goal that could have turned a game? Or a header on goal that was miraculously saved by the goalie? Instead, you get to see a good minute of irrelevant yellow cards instead. Is this A.I. gone wrong or just lazy editing?

Love it, but…

I love the content on Stan and enjoy the general look of it too but it would be helpful if you added a few thing and did some touch up work on the rest. One thing I suggest is if you made a way to request movies and tv shows either in the app or attach a link in the setting the can take us to a place we can request new content. Second, it would be greatly appreciated if you could please have some more personal touches to individual profiles such as better profile images or personal 4 digit passwords or even being able to shoes between a dark theme or a light theme. Another thing is the slightly inconvenient way you have to go about things if you want to change up your profile, if that could be made easier with better access it would certain help the app run smoother. Also I feel I’m not really getting content that’s relevant to me and as such it takes awhile to find shows I actually enjoy, don’t get me wrong I know there are plenty of shows I do enjoy on there but the fact of the matter is that it’s often hard to find them. Last but not least, shows won’t play if my mobile device is connected to a HDMY, in fact it won’t even load. This is really annoying when your staying in a motel and brought along your HDMY cable in hopes to be able to watch your favourite films on the tv instead of your phone. Thanks for everything else

Forcing you to sign up for content you don’t want to view live sport!

The Stan streaming service has been out for approximately 6 years. I would’ve thought that in this time if one hasn’t chosen to subscribe to Stan that they probably don’t want to watch the entertainment content on the platform!
Now Stan has expanded into sports and landed the rights to the sought after European Champions League football (soccer) via their Stan Sport offering, they are effectively forcing new users to subscribe to the their standard content offering and also request an additional $10 to access sport!
This is the old cable subscription model which even foxtel has pivoted aggressively away from and is simply not fit for the era of streaming. I’m extremely disappointed that an Australian streaming service is acting in a very un-Australian, non-customer centric way. Take your money elsewhere is my recommendation.

Good Content but the UI Needs Work

The content on Stan has come leaps and bounds since I first tried it ~5 years ago, and it’s now one of the main steaming platforms that I use.
The UI, on the other hand, need to get with the times.
- There’s no way to rate the titles that you watch or like, so there are no real recommendations when looking for something new to watch.
- There is no way to search via genre, you just have to scroll and hope that there is a ribbon there for the one you are looking for.
- The biggest one for me is the Continue Watching ribbon. You have to watch a movie to the end of the credits for it to drop off this list, or go into watch history (only available on the computer - and who uses there computer for streaming content these days?) and clear that item. So if you start something and don’t finish it because you didn’t like it, you have to see it every time you go into the app, with no simple and easy way to get rid of it.
I hope to see a significant UI update sometime in the future.

Great app, looking forward to more enhancements.

I really love Stan, it’s probably the streaming service I use the most. I use it on my Apple TV 4K and my iPad, and I really appreciate how Stan has lent in to using standard iOS features and conventions like playback controls. It makes it easier for me to focus on the content I want to watch rather than how the app works. However, I’d love to see some enhancements to make my life a bit easier using the app.
I’d love to see Stan support either better profile pictures - it’s hard to tell whose account it is based on just the colour smiley, or ideally support the native, system-wide tvOS user switching functionally. I’d really appreciate native integration because it makes it so much easier to explain to older relatives how to change their account when every app isn’t relying on their own approach to user switching.
Also, would be great to see Picture in Picture work on tvOS like it does on the iPad. Sometimes you want to watch the end of a show while browsing for something else to watch either in the Stan app or another app. Hopefully you consider adding this to a future release.

App is really unstable , keeps buffering and is a waste of time and money

I’m on my third attempt I’ve given Stan ago so that I can watch my beloved rugby but I am not able to do this because the app does not work I either have no volume and a really bad picture or it’s buffering so much that it doesn’t even play what I’m trying to watch. Most recently I only manage to watch about 15 minutes of an 80 minute game of rugby as I was too busy resetting my Internet my iPad and my TV to try and watch the rugby .
Even resorting to using a new tablet reloading the app checking my Internet connection which I must add was flawless and stan did not work , very disappointed in the fact that I am paying for a product that doesn’t work at all!

Great service but severely broken app!

I love all the shows on Stan but the iPhone app is completely broken - It takes forever to stream or download something even over a strong Wifi connection, which other apps on the same device can easily and quickly stream from and other devices also connect and stream/download quickly from. The Chromecast functionality just straight up doesn't not work at all; it will sit at a loading screen on your TV waiting for you to pick a show but if you select one from the app on your phone, the app just blinks and doesn't start playing your show. A shoddy, poor effort from the Stan team and disappointing considering it's a paid streaming service. Netflix and Disney+ don't dog us like that, just sayin'.

Exceptional customer service

The content is fantastic, especially the full series of TV classics and the direct from the US stuff like RuPaul, Bold Type, Younger etc. But the best part I’ve experienced is the service. I’ve had Stan for a few years now and today (Good Friday) I experienced my first technical issue. I contacted Stan via their website and via Messenger and within minutes I had support from one and the other checking that the support was received. Within five minutes my issue was completely sorted using step by step instructions. Keep up the absolutely amazing work!

Apple TV app UX needs work

Stan has great content, wouldn’t go back to Netflix for that reason. However, there are two things that make it really frustrating to use Stan on a daily basis.
1. The movies/tv series in the “continue watching” section don’t update when you switch between devices on the one profile. For example, I will finish watching an episode on my phone and then when I want to watch the next episode on the Apple TV, the episode I just watched or even the one before that will still be half way through...
2. For some reason you can’t go to “all episodes/seasons” when you click on a TV series in the “continued watching” section of your profile. You can do this on the phone app, why not the Apple TV?
For example, if I finish watching an episode, and then I want to watch an episode in a different season. I have to go to the menu bar (which should be located as a column on the left of the screen by the way), and then search for the tv series again to get to other seasons.

Not functional

I have started the free trial. I use my phone and chrome cast to the TV. We don’t have a smart TV to launch the app.
The chrome cast function from the Stan app on my phone doesn’t work, so I turn the TV off and try to battle through watching on my phone. Then, it tells me error A10. That I’ve reached my device capacity. So I turn the TV back on to purposely cast something else like Netflix (which actually works) in case Stan was still on the TV, turn my phone on and off, then launch the Stan app on my phone again and still receive the same A10 error 🤷🏼‍♀️
Not to mention the amount of times it’s taken to leave the review because every nickname is taken.

Company is a Rip Off

Signed up to this company to try for the 30 day free trial offer, didn’t watch it enough to warrant paying for a subscription so we cancelled it. Have now realised that they have been charging us for the past 6 months. Contacted customer support and they basically said ‘oh well’ and dodged all our queries as to why it happened. You can’t speak with management, you can’t contact by phone, so your screwed. Oh and not once did we receive a notice in our email regarding a monthly bill, a receipt for payment or anything advertising what was even on....so how would we realise they were still taking our money without any pop up emails from them to make us think...hey maybe we are still connected too a subscription! Stay away!

Why no profile page?

A few things I don’t like about this app. 1. Why isn’t there a home profile page where you can select who’s watching and essentially leave that profile when viewing is complete? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve finished watching something, closed the app and when someone else goes to use it, it’s still on my profile! 2. The whole fast forward skip business on the smart tv. Why can’t you just add 2 buttons - one for moving 10seconds forward, one for 10 seconds back? I know it’s a little different on the iPad app but still, it needs to be consistent. 3. User interface could be easier to navigate if all your headings were along the left hand side rather along the top. Again, slightly different for iPad and smart tv but this makes viewing that much more troublesome. That’s why I opt to watch Netflix or Disney +, even if content is slightly better on Stan.

Better content than Netflix right now

Stan is one of the best options for Australians right now. It offers excellent content with shows you actually want to watch, and proves it is dedicated to improving the service. I recently had some problems which were promptly resolved once contacting them on Facebook which improved my customer experience - although, it would be great if the chat was implicated somehow in the app so I didn’t need to use Facebook. Sometimes has streaming quality issues but it doesn’t deter me from wanting to use the product. Thanks Stan!

Perfect if you have little kids

I have both Netflix & Stan, and can say both are fairly equal in terms of app quality (& content)
But Stan offers 1 feature that the others don’t. A little padlock in the kids profiles that disables the screen.
Meaning your little one can bash & swipe away, but they cannot do much of anything.
(Granted, it’s not 100% as it won’t block the ‘go home’ command. But considering the other streaming apps don’t have anything like this function)

Love it

I noticed a lot of reviews mentioning a problem with sound, I’ve been using Stan for a few months and haven’t had any problems with it, it’s great, my favourite thing is it tells me if I’m using my phone data when there’s an internet connection available which has saved me lots of phone data.
The only thing I would change is that the last thing you watched a little bit of doesn’t automatically come up, I have to look for it but I can deal with that.

Works fine

I have read many of the reviews and believe some of those issues people are complaining about have nothing to do with Stan...connections, for example. I use Stan on my iPad with my phones hotspot and as long as there is signal, it all works fine. I’ve also had Netflix and believe it’s as good, with slightly better content. I have had a few issues with sound, but I believe it’s to do with my headphones...not sure about that one. I unplug and plug back in and adjust and it seems to come back eventually. If it’s Stan, then this would be the only fault I can find.

Ugh

Videos close randomly, sometimes stan has a fit and won’t play anything at all, that’s about the time I switch back to netflix. I was watching Daria last night and at the end of an episode it completely disappeared from the app? Doesn’t always save my episode or season progress, this app is nowhere near as polished as Netflix. Also there’s a lot of shows I enjoy but they only have the first season? What’s the point of that? I have to end up switching to my computer to finish watching the show I want to watch which I have downloaded to my computer, I might as well just use my tablet to connect to my computer to watch shows, since this app doesn’t have anything beyond the first season for several shows.

Good but glitchy

I love stan especially thanks to the StanXDisney thing. But I keep encountering glitches, such as Autoplay never works just sort of sits there and loads, and i have 30Mbs download speed, I once tested it and it just sat there for 20 minutes, then I just played the video manually. Another thing is when you leave your tv show or movie it says your at the start, or when you finish it it says your 5 minutes in, this can be very annoying for tv shows, for example, I am bingewatching breaking bad and when it’s late and time for me to sleep, sometimes im halfway through the video. So when I come back in the morning I haven’t even watched the video. I am giving stan a high rating because of the things on it, But to the developers please hear my review.

Works well, except for closed-caption subtitles

I enjoy the app and use it regularly, however I find a lot of the time when I stream a show it has the closed-caption subtitles operating on the screen even when they are ‘off’ in app. I’ve tried turning them on and off which doesn’t work, and find the only way to remove them is to turn off my casting, shut down the app and restart the casting process 3 to 4 times before they finally disappear. Was hoping this bug was fixed in the new update but sadly still lingering.

Ok, I guess...

The app is ok, but it has 1 huge problem. There is no option to limit steam quality to SD when on a cellular network. I don’t need HD when watching on a 5 inch screen while riding the train. I had to turn off cellular data half way through the month to avoid additional charges. I’ve never had that problem streaming content from any other source. Yes, you can download and watch offline, but most of the content that attracted me to Stan is not downloadable.
Stan seems like a pretty good service. There are problems with the streaming quality, even when at home on a solid wifi network. My daughter asked me to turn off Cars the other day because she couldn’t see anything LOL
I think Stan has excellent potential, they just need to improve their tech a little.

I don’t understand why Stan has so many negative reviews. I find it has fantastic variety of content (my list is full of stuff for me to binge watch), kids love it (c’mon people, the Marvel franchise!), great value starting at $10 min per month (recently cancelled Foxtel subscription was costing me $110!). Have encountered no issues with streaming, though as a gen X’er I probably have a little more patience with minor things like some content being a bit slow to load. Coming from an era of four channel television, ‘on demand’ streaming services are a revelation to me, and Stan comes a very close second to Netflix. Great job....

Love the Stan app but it doesn’t ask if I’m still watching!

I’ve had the Stan app for maybe a couple of years now and over the past few months it won’t ask if I’m still watching after 4 episodes of a show. For example I was watching Friends on my iPad last night and fell asleep. I woke up at almost 5am and it was still playing... 13 episodes later! The most episodes it’s played of something previously was 17 and only stopped as my iPad battery went flat.
I’m not completely inept with technology so yes, I’ve turned the options off and on in settings on multiple occasions and it’s done nothing. Please enlighten me with a fix for this.
Other than that I like the app better than the one on my tv, as it only gives you the last show you watched as a ‘Continue Watching’ option.

Streaming leaves a bit to be desired

A major problem with this app is that it's chromecastjng leaves a lot to be desired compared to Netflix when dealing with the unstable connections typical of NBN FTTN trash broadband. Of course Stan can't be held responsible for the cut outs, but the problem is , when they happen the app makes no attempt at remembering where you are and drops out forcing you to try and find where it left off. On my connection that cuts out once or twice an hour (good work Turnbull! trashing everyone's internet for political points, fool) this makes for a deeply frustrating experience compared to Netflix which cheerfully picks up where it left off. Fix this, and we might just have a cracker app. Until then, I'll keep this at 3 stars)

Good content but several annoying issues

The only positive thing I can really say about Stan is that it has decent content.
The Stan experience on mobile and tablet devices is disappointing to say the least.
Every 3 minutes I get a my stream paused and a pop-up saying ‘your connection has switched from wifi to 4G’. The connection has never actually switched, maybe a momentary weak signal at best. Perhaps change the warning so it only occurs after a significant amount of time off wifi connection? Gets to the point where I want to throw my phone at the wall when I have 5 pop ups in under a minute interruption my stream.
On another note, when I go back to the main menu or suspend the app while watching a series, when I go back in it will return to the start of the previous episode in the season instead of resuming where I left off. (For example when half way through watching episode 5 I will go back to my home menu then go back in and it will start from the beginning of episode 4.

Awesome but…

I adore this app but it has so many glitches! Audio cuts out, film cuts out and while watching it always resets to the beginning. For an expensive app it really needs some bug fixing. But I am really glad that they are starting to update the Nickelodeon seasons. Still, there are so many season 2’s and up that they won’t air and it is sooooo annoying. Something that would be awesome for Stan is original series’ because it would be nice to get full TV shows in.
Also, every time I try to leave the app, the audio of some random show I was watching, on some random episode, just starts randomly playing. Do you know how annoying that is?!?!

Great and intuitive but annoying bug

Love the library and find the app really intuitive, possibly even more than the Netflix one. But I find even when I pause/close the episode I’m watching it’ll randomly open up and start playing again.
This happens almost every time and it’s really annoying cause if I just pause something, take my headphones out and put my phone down I’ll come back to it blasting out my episode for no reason out of nowhere. Why does this happen? It’s both embarrassing and makes me lose track of what episode I’m on.
Sometimes I’ll even force close the app itself and it’ll still show up in my control centre as playing. Never experienced this with anything else, hopefully you can fix it.

Some things could make this a whole lot better

The content on this service is really good, it makes living in Australia a bit better so we can watch some of those shows that Netflix doesn’t want to supply for us.
However, reading other people’s reviews I have to agree with them - the sound cutting out is easily the most annoying thing aBout this app. At first I just thought it was something wrong with my phone, or the program I was watching but after using different headphones and different devices, it happens with everything. I’ve also found subtitles going out of sync and not fixing themselves, and only as I was rewinding the episodes to try and get it back in order I realised the subtitles were out was because it skipped a whole section of the show!
I would also like to see a rating service for the shows and reviews etc to help with making decisions on what to watch

Not bad, tech help great!

Most shows I didn’t have a problem with, then I began watching billions and experienced a lot of sound cuts which were extremely frustrating! I’d had enough by episode five and emailed them! I received an email straight away and several emails later (not waiting more then a few minutes between each reply) my problem was solved! I quick speed test (if you have time to watch Stan you have time to do a 30 sec speed test) and a reinstall of the app and no kore problems so far! Thanks Edward for helping me out!!

Major problems that need solving ASAP

Stan has movies/shows of all genres for all ages to love, but the app has a major bugs that haven’t been fixed in months and your updates seem to be making them worse. For starters the screen would freeze, act like it’s loading, but would then crash all together and if it doesn’t crash you have to close the app and re-open it. Second, the sound keeps muting at random and the only way to solve it is to exit the app and re-open. Thirdly, the screen on screen function (to watch a show while doing other stuff on your device) would instantly crash sometimes or buff with no improvement. Since the last few updates, it’s only made these problems worse! Please fix these ASAP

Content good... app horrendous

The only thing it has going for it, is the good content. What is EXTREMELY annoying, is the constant sound cuts. At least once during every episode of whatever show I watch, the sound cuts out. The only way to fix it is by restarting the app and hoping it doesn’t happen again.
I have sent an email to your support team, and get absolutely no help. I don’t have time to “go to this website, do a speed test” or whatever, you are tech support, that is your job to fix the issues. It is clearly common issue, so why the hell is there now fix yet.
Also, just looked through the version history, there has been just 2 updates in the last 12 months. For a service that so many people are paying their hard earned money for, this shows a lack of respect for their consumers, not an ounce of professionalism and a huge lack of integrity!!!

Good content, bad performance

Good content. That’s Stan’s saving grace.
You know the saying, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”?
Well, Stan IS slightly broken, and it seems no one wants to fix it.
There are consistent crashes. Whilst streaming, it will I expectedly freeze. Repeated audio dropouts. Upon contacting Stan support, they recommended deleting the app, and re-downloading it. Which, for the record, works. But I have to delete and redone load ALL THE TIME. I know it doesn’t cost much to download an app, but I’m doing it every day. It’s ridiculous. Why on earth can’t someone fix this? It makes Stan look weak. And the fact no one wants to fix it makes it look as though they’re not listening and don’t care.
