Need option for means of transport

This app would be what I have long been looking for except that it makes assumptions about means of travel being overland (solid line) or flying (dashed line). On the trip I am trying to enter I travelled through some counties overland before flying Venice to Hamburg and later Copenhagen to Helsinki (both shown as solid lines). I later travelled Moscow to Beijing by train but no matter how many interim spots I add I cannot get away from the dotted line(flying). As a programmer of some decades I would not think it too difficult to implement an option of ‘line type’ on any step from A to B. This could override the default. Will have to keep looking for what I want as a mapping tool. Or perhaps resurrect my rusty programming skills!

Used to work great, now sporadic

This app worked great initially. Now instead of plotting our course accurately it now plots sporadically and it’s too hard to follow.

Whatever updates were done have ruined this app. Also yes, travel tracker is enabled (always was)

Best app for travelling

I heard about this travel app, have been using it for over 3 years, it takes the stress out of keeping a diary as it does it for you, just set and go. I recommend to anyone that will listen.

Best of them all!

I downloaded all apps like this to test and see which one worked best. Polarsteps graphics, accurate GPS tracking and easy-to-use interface was definitely the best. I have now got my whole family on to it! Feedback: I would like the map to jump closer in when going from entry to entry. For example, it stays quite zoomed out for movements within cities so you can’t really see that timeline very well. Also if it could be easier to see trips and people you follow that aren’t ‘travelling now’. Also if you could choose when parts of your trip go ‘live’ so that your current GPS location isn’t shown until you’ve left the are for privacy reasons. Also it’d be great if translation was available for posts.

Best app ever

This has been the most wonderful app for our trip with us writing our diaries and select family and friends following along. It was particularly great for the kids to get feedback from grandparents- definitely helped with motivation :-)

Traveling the world.

Have used the app since leaving Australia and traveling to Ireland and around Iceland via Dubai. The location markers are very accurate, only glitch is when it completely looses satellite reception, like in an inside cabin of a cruise ship. The ability to attach photos is great.

Used it on our trip to Rutherglen, took the long way via Jingellic and central Victoria, great to look back and see where we went, memory alone doesn’t do it.

I would love to use the app to make photobooks in the future but am a bit disappointed that you cannot add captions to individual photos. Would that be an add on in the future? Would be a fantastic feature!

The best App for tracking your trip!

We are very impressed with this app, a very professional look - you are able to either have the app track your travels or manually place it in. Update your trip regularly and share it with family and friends, add your favourite photos straight from your iPhone or iPad anytime.

We wish we knew about it when we travelled around the world in 2019!

We will be making this a permanent app for all our travels in the future 10/10.

Cannot even set up an account

I can’t even use the app as it doesn’t allow me to set up a password, it says that I need a password in case I can’t sign in with Facebook, so I put a password 7 characters long, it says it’s too short, I put a password 8 characters longs, it says it’s too short… so doesn’t let me do anything 😑

Location tracking needs work

Every now and then it will set my location as somewhere well and truly back towards the start of the trip… and tracking while driving is very ordinary, perhaps have the app ping location more frequently!

Good, but persistent for location

The app is good but is a pain when you are not on holiday but viewing someone else’s holiday. It keeps wanting to track your location, who would want that during work life.

Great app to document travels

This is a great app to document travels and easily create an photobook.

Some of the editing features and tracking functions are clumsy and could be improved with updates but considering this is a free app who can complain. I’d actually pay a small fee to make the app more user friendly with these functions

A pleasure to use this App

I had followed a friend on this App, but recently used it for my own 35 day trip. I found it so easy to use and have now ordered the Travel Book of the journey. I am very eager to see the book, a reasonable price too, coming from overseas with postage included. I was gobsmacked watching the book being compiled as I watched it ! Thanks Polarsteps. Looks good but...

Just loaded and gave access to photos to works it’s magic on displaying trips ( past)

I then wanted to delete the trips... follow sequence but on hitting trip settings it takes me out of the app altogether. If I can’t get past this then it (the App) is no value to me. I was excited at first but....

Great app which shows my family where I am. It’s easy to use and I love being able to add photos. If I had one wish, I would love to be able to do a screenshot, including the town names, showing where I have been. But I am generally very happy with Polarsteps.

The best way to share a trip

Over the last few years I have really “turned away” from social media like Facebook etc - it just seems to be a well-spring of advertising and so on. I love this app because it allows me to document a trip in the way I experienced it, and I love the potential of the “book” feature.

My only disappointment is that the current version does not allow you to “share a trip” with others in a way that would allow them to post into your trip log (and vice versa) if they are travelling with you.

Also I am doing a trip at the moment that does not allow me to share the details publicly (non-disclosure agreement) but it would be nice to allow specific selected people who are authorised to see that trip.

These are small things. A good app.

This app deletes your trip!!

So disappointed with this app. It was going along fine until it deleted half my trip including way points and photos. If you want to keep the memories don’t waste your time with this app. I also tried to contact them multiple times for support to see if I can get any of my trip back only to be told they weren’t receiving my emails (which could not have been the case) and I have not had a reply since. Extremely disappointing..

Frustrated

I have tried to contact Polarsteps for help with my trip. I have previously ordered a few books and been so happy. Now I am having a problem my photos have disappeared and I don’t know how to retrieve. I have put a lot of work and months into my book, can’t see the photos to edit or anything. Any contacts I find tells me not a valid address.

Going North

We have just recently returned from a fantastic trip all the way up to Broome and the Dampier peninsula. This was the first time that we had use polar steps and it was fantastic. It enabled us to have a quick look at our trip and photos but enabled my family and friends to follow our trip. Will continue to use it on hopefully a lot more trips. The app is user-friendly easy to upload photos and very convenient for friends and family to follow your trip. We now have a fantastic memory easy to find of our trip. Used this for our lap around Australia

Love the app and how we’ve been able to track the first month of our five month trip around Australia so far. However, I’m frustrated when the app suddenly closes while I’m in the middle of adding a step and either my text, photos, or both, disappear and I have to redo them. Continuously crashing

I have an iPhone 7 and this app is unusable, it is constantly crashing and resetting mid way through adding a step. No idea why it’s failing but it makes it pretty useless

Good app don’t kill it pls

The app was very good until the last update. Please dear admins don’t be greedy and try to make money of locations service. I don’t want the app to always know my location so don’t ask everytime I reopen the app. Also you cant choose a location when you want to place a new step - please fix ASAP.

The app doesn’t need any new fancy features please leave it the way it is and everyone is happy.

Really glad I found this app!

Love the app - after much searching, this was exactly what I was after, almost perfect. I love the location tracker, detailed enough for hikes / recording my paths while snowboarding etc. I use it as a journal, adding photos and writing a memo for the place I’m in.

Only things I would like to see improved: if I have bad internet (drops out when I click “publish”) or click to open something else and return to the app, often the entry I was working on is completely deleted if not “published”, causing frustration! Would be great if it automatically “saved as draft” or something, rather than having to start all over again.

Also, would be cool to be able to specify time in the same place over multiple days, rather than just arrival time, although this doesn’t bother me too much!

Finding this a great app for friends to follow our travels. Live how they can see exactly where you are travelling in live time.

Would like to be able to get rid of the ‘flights’ that I haven’t taken. I have two that have been added. If I try to delete it from one end, it then misses a part of the toad we did travel on. It would perhaps be handy to have tap and drag available to the points on our ‘road’.

Great tracking and sharing tool

This is a great way to track and record your holiday as well as sharing it with family and friends. Particularly helpful in countries that don’t allow social media platforms. I love the way it maps your trip and calculates the kms too!

Cant exit trip

Intent is good and it almost does it.

But, when I open a trip to look back over it, I can’t exit the trip without completely shutting down the app and restarting.

Ok. Apparently there’s a tiny-wee faint arrow at the top left of the page that takes you back. So, now that I know it’s there, problem is solved and another star is now earned = that makes three. Would be nice if that arrow was more visible.

Get that, and if this works as advertised on my next trip, another star is likely.

Used Polarsteps on a 2000 km 67 day trip down the Murray River (Australia) in a 4mtr “Tinny”. It was fantastic to track our trip and keep a record of all our stops and sights. The tracking on the map was the only fault we found with lots of “Phantom” steps. This was not as relevant to us as the notes and pictures were however. I am hoping this has been rectified on our trip to New Zealand this time. 👍

Amazing

Aside from a few bugs with the travel tracker, and the annoyance of having to have an arrival time for every single step (If I'm staying somewhere for multiple days there's no arrival time), this is an incredible travel journalling app. Does everything you need in a way that makes sense. I can't wait to receive my travel book!

Edit: Received my travel book and it is really incredible quality and is beautifully designed. Cannot recommend it enough!

Location access reminder ruining the app

I absolutely love this app. As a long-term traveller it has been perfect to document my trip and share it with friends and family at home.

However recently the app has become frustratingly difficult to use due to the location access reminder that pops up every time I leave and re-enter the app. I don’t use location services on my phone and do not wish to use it for the app even with the Travel Tracker. With my outdated iPhone the location service uses up my battery far too quickly.

My Camino Diary

Polarsteps allowed me to record my 30 day Camino via my phone. Looks good, plenty of room for photos and text and really easy to use. You can continue to edit so you can update and add more details at any time even after the trip is over.

We’re away on a 4 month holiday and are using Polar Steps to keep a detailed written and pictorial journal of our trip. It’s really easy to use and my friends say it’s great for them to keep track of what we’re up to. I look forward to creating an album when we get home. Great work Polar Steps!

Great way to record trip

This is an excellent way to record your travels and keep in contact with people back home. It looks great. You have the option of creating a book at the end. Occasionally I’ve had trouble with flight lines and would love an option to undo when I’ve accidentally taken out an actual travel marker in the process of trying to delete a flight line.

Must have long road trip app

Awesome app that tracks your steps pretty much as accurate as possible. Love that you can add photos to each step and that it works offline. Doesn’t drain the battery and I can’t wait to get a book made at the end. There is very little that would even make it better, but when I think about it, nothing comes to mind! My favourite app ever. Well done guys and girls who came up with this!

Translation

It’s a great app and not going to repeat what others have said. My only negative that I’ve found so far is that there’s no translation option. I have overseas friends travelling in my country but I don’t speak or understand their language, it would be great if there was a “see translation” option under each individual post like Facebook has.
