Great concept, totally inaccurate location.
With no way to choose your weather station source you can end up with totally inaccurate info. I live in a valley and it picked up the nearest station 25k away which happens to be on a mountain. 10degrees colder and different weather.
Contacted support but nothing more yet in reply than automated we’ll get back to you.
So disappointed because the app otherwise is a great design.

Top weather app available!!!
Working outdoors this app keeps me updated when a shower is about to happen & has the most accurate to the minute weather updates. I’ve been using this app for apx 8 years and will always recommend it to anyone. Well worth the small initial fee. Thanks

Something wrong
I’ve been using this app for years. It used to be perfect! Sometime in the last year or so it’s become much less accurate. It will be pouring rain and the apps says there will be patchy rain in 15 minutes. The radar isn’t centred on my actual location anymore, it’s stuck about 60km south for some reason. I’ve double checked my settings and location sharing. I don’t understand why it’s gotten so bad.

Location Out
I do like this app however our location is quite a bit out which is annoying. We live in Morayfield and it keeps saying we are in Beerburrum which is a good 45mins away which means our alerts are not accurate. It would be great if you could adjust your location for better accuracy. Tried to send an email to question this and have no reply from developers.

Sometimes it works
Sometimes it’s having a rest for a few days and it doesn’t bother with giving you accurate information. No app updates or improvements deployed for very long periods of time, not even for new iOS versions. Dev has more interesting things to do than fiddling around with this boring old thing.
Still, when it’s working it’s a great little app.

I love Rain Parrot, but since iOS 18 introduced the location services option “while using app or widget” the widget has not worked, reducing its utility.

What’s gone wrong?
Whilst Rain Parrot used to only glitch occasionally, it really has been up the creek this week. We are experiencing drought conditions in Adelaide and there’s no rain forecast in the immediate future. And yet for the past few days, the app has been alerting us periodically of rain. Right now, it indicates that it is raining heavily, which is ridiculous. It is forecast to be hot and sunny today!
We love this app, but it clearly needs fixing.

Something is broken in this app
We have been in a heat wave for many months and at least 3 times a day I get rain notifications popping up saying that rain is coming in 15 etc. There isn’t a cloud in the sky. Something is seriously wrong with the app. My wife also has it and the same issues are occurring.

Not as accurate as it once was
Rain Parrot just isn’t as accurate as it used to be. This is sad, I loved this app. Now when it says it will rain in 20 mins or however long, I put on a timer and more often than not… no rain. Sad! Please update this app… MIGA - Make It Great Again!

Don’t Bother Buying
This app used to be spot on with its notifications. It would tell you when rain was going to fall literally to the minute, And be accurate.
Now it fails to even notify you of anything and if it does it’s outright wrong. That’s if it’s even let you know on time.

Nailed It
Considering the weather is extremely hard to predict, this app does an extremely good job predicting bands of rain coming through the city. The closer you live to the Doppler radar, the better. I live in Perth Australia and I'm 50km from the radar site of Serpentine. But this app has been accurate for me down to the minute. However, less accurate if the rain is scattered, but still does a good job. Well done in my opinion. I have no issue opening my wallet to these guys.

Like quite a few here, I use to rave to people about Rain Parrot but feel that its accuracy has dropped markedly and have largely stopped its alerts. I also note there have been no new updates for over a year and wonder if the parrot has been left for dead??

Incredibly accurate
I listened to a caller talking about this app on a radio show and decided to try it out for myself. I am so surprised just how accurate this is. No sooner do you hear a notification with the words “Rain Parrot” sound on your phone and within 10 minutes. It starts raining.
If your work or activity can be disrupted by rain events, and by having just a little bit of notice can make all the difference then this is the app for you!

Two Suggestions
1. Allow the user to manually select a location to see forecasted rainfall, rather than only showing the users current location. This would prove useful when planning outings to other towns etc.
2. Show predicted rainfall based on actual location, rather than closest Rain Parrot POI. Eg, I live ~15km from my local airport, and Rain Parrot will only tell me the prediction for the airport, not my house. Which is pretty much in the centre of town.

Great App.
I like Rain Parrot app as it advises with uncanny accuracy what is like to happen in my suburb and surrounding areas with the most up to date outcomes of the weather forecast without me having to go looking for the BOM app even though Bom Provides more in depth information.
The main difference is the Rain Parrot app announces through notifications and also my hearing aids very very happily.

Very Useful
Having an indication of when rain is expected, especially storms in southeast Queensland, is really useful. The AI used by the app isn’t always completely reliable, but that’s a function of data as much as the software I suspect and mainly becomes an issue with complex weather patterns. When there’s a serious storm around I rely on Rain Parrot to get vehicles under cover and people out of harm’s way in plenty of time. It’s well worth having on my phone.

Without question, my absolute favourite weather app. I check it several times a day, and it is extraordinarily accurate. It will tell you if it’s going to rain in the next hour, and how hard it will rain, and how long it will rain, and it’s always right! Blissfully reliable.

Most Accurate App to Date
Currently the most accurate app I’ve used to date especially if you’re living/working in Australia, having total rainfall next to the individual days is helpful to say the least. Only thing that can be improved upon is having the ability to set custom locations like the default weather app, having to resort to that to see the weather in a different area defeats the purpose. Widgets especially in todays day and age would also go a very long way. Amazing work from the developers, but add these two functionalities and you’ve perfected the weather game.

Missed Opportunity - Monumental Flaw
Works pretty well. Although the time estimate and amount of rain predicted isn’t 100% accurate, it’s pretty spot on when it says it’s going to rain. HOWEVER, this app has a monumental flaw - It will only provide information on your current location. There is no way to check other locations. This is a huge issue for those that need weather forecasts for particular locations (I.e working on a construction site and determining if it’s going to rain, etc). Please add this feature as without it, this certainly should not be a paid app when I can get something that offers more functionality for free.

Alerts are great — tweak to your preferences
I love this app and it’s invaluable when I’m cycling. Some days I get an alert and I can cycle home to miss the downpour that’s coming in half an hour or choose to wait for a small patch of rain to pass before heading out and getting soaked. Make sure you tweak your preferences because because I don’t want notifications for a light drizzle or certain times of day. Getting the settings right was a game changer.

Always accurate
Updated 11 March2023. Still using it. Still loving 🥰 it. Still accurate. M still an app hoarder and this app is still my number 1 weather app. I enjoy this app alot. So trustworthy. I can be in another room and I can hear “rain parrot” words echo and I know rain is approaching soon. I love rain but also like my laundry dry 😆. I have iPhXs with 16.1 iOS software and it runs smoothly on it as it has for years on all other versions. As another reviewer stated colours for the rain depth would be aesthetically appealing if possible PREV REVIEW :Can be MORE accurate than looking at the BOM radar sometimes . Have had this a long time. Have old phone iph5 with iOS 10.3.3. I have had no issues from it. It does crash on opening from alert notification but if i put my finger on the screen when app opens then it stays open. Strange but it works. Ive downloaded 10 weather apps in 5 yrs and this is my favourite. Extremely accurate 9 out of 10 times but i guess that would be cos the 1 out of 10 has evaporated before it hits the ground. I m an app hoarder so i can tell u from experience u will be satisfied to have this app

What happened?!
This app used to be scarily accurate, and I could 100% rely on it but in the past few months my friends and I have noticed it’s rarely correct. For example, today it came up saying completely clear despite heavy rain hammering my windows. Then half an hour later it refreshed, saying there would be a 40 min break in rainfall. So I took my dog out for a quick walk and 10 mins in the heavy rain returned despite the app saying conditions were clear. What happened to the app?

Awesome… for the most part
This app is great, but for actual forecasts it’s not exactly impressive. The way it works is by looking at your location and the radar as well as the wind speed and direction at your location to work out how far off rain is. What it doesn’t take into account is the wind speed and direction anywhere else. So for instance maybe at your location the wind is blowing from the west and there’s no rain west of you but there’s rain south-west of you and where that rain is the wind is blowing north-east Rain Parrot will say no rain for the next hour but in reality that rain will blow into the wind that’s coming for you and it will actually rain. It also doesn’t take dissipation info account. So if there’s a small precipitating cloud in the distance coming right at you, Rain Parrot will say it’s gonna rain but that cloud’s gonna run out long before it actually arrives. So overall Rain Parrot is awesome when it’s currently raining so it can tell you roundabout when it will stop (depending on the wind) and it’s pretty good at telling you when it’s about to rain as well as the very short term intensity. But it’s not great with consistent accuracy or rain that’s more than 10-15m out

Amazing app with buy-once pricing
It’s so rare to come across *actual* good software these days, and the fact that this is sold as a once-off purchase is honestly incredible. This is actually my favourite app, I tell everyone who cares to listen how great it is. One time I was sitting outside with the boys having a beer and a yarn, my watch dings and I go “hmm light rain in 12 minutes increasing to medium rain in 14”.. they look up at the clear blue sky and collectively doubt, but then sure enough about 12 mins later rain clouds have completely blown over and started raining. It’s like having a superpower. For real, you should buy this app. It is good, and they’re not going to badger you for a subscription fee unlike so many terrible apps.

Developers ignore most common requests
Paid app - used to work well. Now is flaky and inaccurate. Developers seem to ignore request to be able to update location or select a radar. Today just stopped working saying the radar is unavailable, yet the BoM app (this app uses BoM data) shows the radar is up and running. Unlike BoM app you can’t choose a different radar - so basically this paid app is now useless, as when this happens it locks you out of the app completely. You can’t even look at the forecast page - which does not rely on the radar to function. Whoever designed this app needs to go back to UX school if they can’t realise that when one feature goes down, the user shouldn’t be unable to use ANY part of the app.

Very handy app
I find this app really handy, especially for planning my day. Eg: if you know it’s going to rain in a few minutes you can get your washing off the line, etc. Even how heavy it is going to rain and for how long is really cool. Also helpful on the go, just remember to keep the app open in the background on your phone. One of those apps that you don’t realise how much you would use it until you get it.

Great for dog walking
Got this as we’re out with the dogs several times a day and even the dogs hate getting wet! Only used it for about a month but so far it’s been really helpful. I love that it’s also a widget for my iPhone and use it concurrently with the BOM site in AU. Update: this is so good we still use it every day (unless the local radar is out) highly recommend. Please consider adding a complication for the Apple Watch and widget for iPhone.

I don’t ever review apps but this is worth talking about. I live near mountains and it seems to rain every day. This app helps me in so many ways. It helps me to know when to rush out and get the clothes off the line, when it’s safe to put them on the line, when to walk the dog and how long I have got! Love this app! ‘What does rain parrot say?’ Is a regular comment in our house! Give it a go. You won’t regret it!
One upgrade would be to look at suburbs you are heading to… is it going to rain at the beach which is 30 mins away. But otherwise love the app.

Useful for many aspects of daily life… when to fit in a walk or run, spray for weeds, dry clothes, water garden (or not), picnic, park, sporting event disruption, take a brolly…
Seriously, accurate and informing. I rarely purchase apps but this one has been used by my husband and myself for years. The little voice alert works well. You can set the alerts for all, some or none of the hours during the day or night too.

Surprisingly accurate
I’ve been using this app for years. I’m still surprised by how accurate it is. There have been times when I walked out without an umbrella; sky was clear, but Rain Parrot on my Apple Watch notified me that rain was due in 15 minutes. I walked back to get my umbrella, and sure enough, the rain arrived as predicted. I live in Melbourne, where the weather can change very quickly; “four seasons in a day” is the saying used here. Seriously impressed. Works better than my previous method of checking the rain radar picture.

Once glance & I can see when to avoid the rain
This app is so well designed. Quick, efficient access to reliable & accurate rain data for my exact location. I have a pet budgie that I need to carry in a cage between two houses. On a rainy day with this app, I know when I take him down to the minute. The at-a-glance notifications are lovely. I would pay more for this app if I could.

Best weather App!
Just love rain parrot as it pre warns you when rain is about to fall. So handy if you have clothes on the line! An electrician installing at our house rushed down off our roof an said it’s going to rain I’ll have to install internally now. He said rain parrot has helped him many a time in his line of work. The rain did indeed start to pour down and I immediately downloaded the app!

A favourite app
I’ve come to rely on this app and appreciate the notifications on incoming rain and changing conditions. Rain Parrot does what other weather apps can’t: tells you exactly when, how heavy and for how long rain will be for your exact location. Sweet graphics on the iPhone app and rainfall detail on Apple Watch. Sync Watch with Phone by opening both and swiping through each screen on the phone app. Please add rainfall graphics for Apple Watch in future updates.

Fun app but location inaccurate
The app has been fun to use especially during our latest very wet period and the predictions for the likelihood of rain is accurate. However where I live, the location is inaccurate. The station it’s getting weather information from is located in the hills which is much colder than where I am on the plains so I don’t pay much attention to the temperature displayed.

Worst weather app
This app is rubbish, I like the idea, however every time it says about rain coming & time etc. we don’t even get a single drop. It also needs a better radar, even the closest radar 62kms no longer shows up, even though, it’s still working online on BOM. Radar images should be like weather zone. All information has been wrong. Even yesterday it said 100% of rain, never had any. Our skys was only 1/2 covered in clouds. Plus according to my weather station in my yard, the humidity didn’t even reach 60%. So how’s that 100% chance of rain? Don’t waste your money. Worst weather app on the market. Wish I never paid the $7 from these scamming wankers.

Location Services accuracy
So its picking up data from 7 suburbs away from me and not mine. Its a shame as I can see it raining there from my deck and its dry and sunny here. In fact I can see it raining for ages there and it never even gets wet here but rain parrot says its currently raining at my place when its clearly not.
Would be better if you could actually pick locations too. For example if I’m going to Geelong for the day. Is it wet there? Is it going to rain there? I’ve paid the cash but I’m not that impressed.

Accurate and helpful
Always good to know whether I will have 30 mins before the rain starts to walk the dogs. Rain Parrot is an accurate forecaster of upcoming showers and whether they will be light or heavy, fleeting or persistent. Really helps you plan around inclement weather, with a handy radar chart and a helpful chirp to alert you when rain is imminent. One of my core lifestyle apps.

not working now
App has suddenly stopped working. Says it can’t find radar and won’t load any pages at all and the help page will not open at all. The app is great when it’s working but it has suddenly stopped working and just won’t work at all now. it has Internet connectivity but just won’t load any data at all just everything is blank hope the devs can fix this.

Must-have app for Everyone
This app has changed the way I plan my commute and has even given me a good excuse to get out of the office on time to avoid the rain...
The real question is, how do they do it!? To-the-minute rain predictions! It’s right easily 90% of the time, which is better than our official weather bureau and way better than a guess.

Surprisingly accurate
The rain predictions are surprisingly accurate and the weather radar with it’s indication of the direction the weather is coming from is incredibly useful.
Our whole family has been showing off our ability to tell when it’s about to rain and then telling everyone to get Rain Parrot after they see how well it works.
This is a genuinely magically app.

Accurate and functional, but rarely updated
This app is brilliant. Almost always gets it right with rainfall predictions; great for getting the washing in just in time!
I wish the developer would update the app more regularly though - support for the new iOS 14 widget design would be great - the current widget is hidden all the way at the bottom of my today view now and I can’t move it out into the Home Screen.

Timing
Need to leave in an hour, but you want the car packed prior to rain? Selling at an open air market & need at least 15mins to shutdown & load vehicles to avoid rain damaged stock? Helping customers predict opportunities to walk without rain to a car park because you know you have 4min gap approaching. Moving customers regularly from outdoors to indoors at a cellar door to minimise the interruption to a wedding or birthday....this app made it easy.

Helpful
I have used this app for sometime now. It came in handy when I was taking public transport to a hotel. I received a message for my city location that rain was expected in 30 minutes when my travelling time was about the same. I had just arrived at the hotel when it started to rain and it was like that for the rest of the day. So glad that I was using the app on that day otherwise I would have delayed my arrival.

Schweet app
Used Rain Parrot since v1. Love it, I’ve come to completely rely on it. As someone who spends lots of time outside walking, camping, cycling, kayaking, surfing etc getting a forecast before venturing outside is important, but more critical is the heads up that RP gives as weather approaches. Just as critical is the estimated time & intensity of the rain. I’ve come to use this app to help make decisions to keep going, turn around or seek shelter; many many times and with out hesitation I’d say this is a must have app. Note I do say ‘help’, please don’t rely on technology to make your decisions, be smart use common sense and awesome tools (apps) like Rain Parrot. Does this app get it right 100% of the time, no! But it’s accuracy is mega close to 100%. The accuracy, it’s simplicity and the fact that it follows my location 5 star app without hesitation.

Where Rain is concerned, I’m the family wizard now
Most people like to announce how amazing a new app is they’ve just got that can accurately predict rain at their location within minutes.
Not me.
I use rain parrot secretly in my family, so of course my entire family now think I’m some kind of Wizard.
“Looks like rain in 8 minutes!”
“Daaaaaaaaad!”
(8 minutes later to the second... rain sounds on roof)
“Ok Dad, you’re freaking us out again”
This has happened so much over the months, our neighbours caught wind of it and have started to ask me to MAKE it rain.
“My petunias are wilting again, can’t you do something?”
So, if you want to enjoy some low-key God-like abilities with your family and neighbours, I can highly recommend Rain Parrot.

Simply does not work!
I bought rain parrot with great hopes that at last I could get accurate rain and weather forecasts. How disappointing. Most days of the week are ‘greyed out’ showing no weather and despite my reports to the company, no reply or explanation have been given. It’s unusual to find an app that simply does not work but here we have an example of just how bad some of them can be. It would be bad enough if it were a free app but to have to pay and then find that you have been conned leaves a very bad impression. Shame on you rain parrot and shame on your non existent customer support and communication.

The most accurate Weather app I have ever used.
This app is extremely accurate. You can tailor your notifications to your desire so you get them when you want and you can also base them off a minimum probability so that way you know when you get a notification it can be trusted.
Like I said though. It is the most accurate weather app I have ever used.

You won’t need until you’ve tried it
If the weather means nothing to you don’t bother- if however you have washing hung out, children who may need picking up from school etc this app gives you a micro weather forecast for where you are standing. It’s so good my wife shared it with all the other Mums at school and now you can hear it clearly at school assemblies on a rainy day as their phones stridently warn of the next showers approach- RainParrot RainParrot RainParrot RainParrot....

Car Dealership
I work for a car dealership as the IT guy in a high rainfall area of Australia. During my short 6 months with this industry I watched the sales team race outside to shut all the car doors and tailgates with every downpour, which I knew was coming minutes in advance.
Luck for them I saved them getting wet by getting them to download this app.

Accurate but annoying alert sound
Rain Parrot is very accurate at predicting rain arrival and intensity at your exact location. It’s now my default weather app. The only thing I would change is the alert sound is by far the most annoying and loud sound in any app ever. Please allow us to change it to a standard tone instead of hearing ‘rain parrot’ at 100 decibels

Very Accurate
Willyweather is great if you need a free accurate weather app but it's rainfall chart is based off the closest weather station. If you need proper accurate rain prediction then Rain Parrot is miles ahead and a must have.
It never gets the general prediction wrong and very rarely predicts the specific times and levels without perfection. It might get the predictions off by a minute or two but 95% of the time the notifications and chart are spot on, even when it's 30-45mins before.
I may be missing something and I know it would me difficult to have the same accuracy but it would be awesome to have a chart that updates with the same regularity and predicts the rest of the day/next 12-24 hours, like Willyweather does. Instead of having the mm and % graphed on the chart though, I would prefer to just see some form of % plus heaviness like the rain chart in this app.

It’s not even closely been right yet
Here is a couple of examples.
The other day I got an alert that there was going to be light rain in 10mins.. I was a little baffled by this but just brushed it off. About an half hour later it told me there was medium to heavy rain in 20mins. Now I was quite perplexed.. my understanding of the weather for that day was clear and sunny with 0% chance of rain. Anyway, I walk outside to check the sky... It’s completely blue, not even a tiny puff of white cloud in the sky. Low and behold... there was no rain.
Now again today, it’s sent me numerous alerts that it’s raining, getting heavier, etc etc... Yet to have a single drop of rain. It’s cloudy today at least.

👍 clever take on a weather app
This app has some very nice features, and is reasonably accurate. Sometimes notifications arrive when the rain has begun. Other than that the rain graph is fantastic. I didn’t immediately catch on to it but it is great for gauging when rain will stop. It’s easier to read than a radar view but just not as cool looking. All it needs are the bright magenta and blue colour scheme!
My only gripe is some of the layout/design choices. Some things are in bold which don’t need it. Times repeat themselves on the weather slider without an indication of if it being the hour on today, tomorrow or the day after. I’m not sure what ‘1 of 15’ means in the storm details especially when it’s rained quite a bit for the day.. I would expect like ‘rain event 4 of 15’? Anyway, there’s nothing here a good graphic/interaction designer couldn’t fix to make this app fantastic!

Good but not accurate
I live in Pakenham, Melbourne, Victoria 3810 and neither the temperature nor the rain predictions seem to be accurate. Sometimes the radar location is Cranbourne, and most of the times it’s Ferny Creek. Someone in my family uses the official BOM app which is always more accurate. The temperature Rain Parrot shows is up to 5 degrees less than the BOM app shows, and BOM turns out to be more accurate. At the point of writing this review, it says it’s raining, but there are only clouds outside and no rain. Maybe in the future when the app is able to show weather for your exact location it may become accurate.

Brilliant Rain Parrot App
I have been using rain parrot for over a year now! I live in Noosa and RP tells me when to bring my cushions in off my day bed!
I travel regularly to Newcastle, Sydney, Melbourne and I now have clear instructions on weather and more importantly RAIN,! I know what to pack, I know not to ring my neighbor to water my garden! Rain Parrot supports my lifestyle and makes my life easier! Thank you ! Jane

Works brilliantly (Western Australia)
Live in Western Australia and it is always accurate, the rain notifications are always timely, helps let me know if I should leave the house for the bus a little earlier to avoid being rained on, and have saved my washing a few time from unexpected spurts of rain. Always get notified before rain begins, and very very seldomly are there miss-notifications. Accurate 95% of the time, only sometimes saying there's rain but in my exact area there isn't (although very dark and cloudy must admit). Cannot recommend this enough.

Maybe it’s a north qld thing but..
.. I had to delete this app due to its horrendous inaccuracies. Another Aussie weather app that I use which also sources it’s weather from the BOM is far more accurate. Rain parrot would constantly miss when the rain would come, and kept continuously giving false alarms - so much so that I had to turn its “sensitivity” right down. Forecasts were grossly inaccurate often saying high percentage likelihood of rain where as weatherAU and/or BOM would have low to none (which were more correct). It was very confusing as to how it could be so wrong. I sent multiple emails to support to see if they could help me, but no response. Bad app, sorry.
