Still not working properly.

Hasn’t worked properly from inception and no update for 10 months. I guess Transport Canberra has given up!
QR Code doesn’t display or isn’t recognised by the scanner. No way to get help in the app or online portal. FREE TRAVEL FOR ME.
So difficult to use that customers should get free physical cards so they can stop using the QR code
When you search a bus stop number it is way down the list returned. One stop was 15th after addresses in the USA and Netherlands.
You can’t access FAQs from the app or account pages.
Bus arrival times are bizarre, the real time ones are inaccurate anyway. When I use the location icon in the app it zooms out so far it no longer shows bus stops. And is difficult to return to my actual location.
The journey planner has me getting off the bus I am on and getting on a 2nd bus to travel 500 meters or getting off 900 metres away even though the bus I am on is going the same way to the chosen destination and arriving earlier. When I use an arrive by time it shows me buses arriving up to 90 minutes early despite more timely options being available.

Frustrating

The app works well for getting on and off the bus and trip planning. It is horrible for checking account balance or easily topping your balance up. It often comes up with ‘connection error’ and the app has had to be deleted and downloaded several times.

Inaccurate

There is a really frustrating bug that shows a bus is “on time” at a stop when it has infact pulled away three minutes beforehand. the live bus tracking is accurate, but the timetable itself isnt & it doesn’t update to the tracking. im sick of checking my timetable to be told my bus is coming at a specific time when it has already departed

Logging in

Buses don’t always show live location

The value of this app is in seeing the live location of the bus. Since the new year I haven’t seen one bus advertise its live location on my morning or afternoon commute.
Before the new year whether or not a bus would show its live location was 50/50.

Tripgo doesn’t work so no timetable information is available.
Attempts to login to my account using ACT Digital Account displays a message “an error has occurred”. So there is no way to access my account balance information.

Not intuitive

There’s no instructions. Online says to open app and display QR code but you have only a map you must search for destination before you have an option of QR code which then open my card on Apple Pay instead of using balance on app

Current version faulty

The version of the app as of November 2025 will log you out after a few days. When you try to use it you get an error “your tickets will be shown here; you currently have no tickets” and won’t show the QR code. The only way I’ve managed to get it to work again is to use the app to go off and log onto the portal. I’m tempted to get another “free ride” to cover the cost of buying a physical card.

Not user friendly

Unable top up , see balance or other basic functions in the app. It redirects you to a web account once you finally figure out that you have to go into your personal details to actually do anything half useful.

Worst app ever

Put $50 on my account, said it worked, card continued to decline, had to put another $50. Couldn’t log into my own account and it locked me out for 15 minutes because it made me change my password and continued to say it was incorrect. I take the bus to school everyday and have to use this nightmare of an app.

Worst City Transport App

Getting around Canberra on Public Transport made even harder with this app. This app is not accessible. It also doesn’t provide an ability to easily manage your account or a standalone card. The login process is completely broken, the timetables are incorrect and you can’t see live bus updates.

Realtime information is misleading

The real-time information is misleading: it was clearly said that the bus would arrive at the station in 10 minutes, but the bus left 10 minutes ago. Swiping the QR code is also slow and unstable. I often swipe the prompt but not to swipe.

Not Good At ALL

The app does not even have your bus card linked to it and takes you to a seperate website to log in and find out how much money is on your card. It’s practically a waste of time. And using Maps or google maps is more efficient if your trying to find the nearest bus station or the best route to take.

The app has bug where I have logged into the Myway+ account then it shows login expired straight away. It makes it impossible to check your card balance. Also the two different login one via ACT digital account and one username and password are different accounts even they can be the same email address. It made me lost $35 credit on my old Myway account.

Awful

This is an absolute high school project of an app. The QR code never works on the readers (which on the plus side means I always get free rides). It doesn’t show you any useful info. Just pushes you to a website, which you need to log on to each time. Useless navigation tools which the native apps do better. I cannot express meaningfully how useless this app is.

Cumbersome to use. Always show an overseas address instead of the domestic one. Route stroke too thick to see. Why do they have to commission a new app instead of just uploading the data to google like the opal system in Sydney?!

Useless app

As if it isn’t already bad enough how terrible the public transport is in Canberra… They had to go and top it with the most useless app ever. You can’t actually top up your myway card in the app, it takes you to an external browser where you have to log back in every single time. My QR code disappears if I haven’t used the app for a few days, i’m forever just having to log in through the “myway portal” which is just an external browser completely separate to the app - so what exactly is the point of the app? Most transport apps like Opal will just keep you logged in and you can do everything via the app. You can’t actually do anything useful in the app apart from check the bus and tram times - and more often than not the timetables are incorrect. This cities public transport system is a laughing stock, and no matter how many people complain they never bother to fix the issues. I’m convinced this system was designed by someone who’s never caught PT in their life.

Login Problem

Now suddenly this app logs me out and I am trying to login but keeps sending me error. Fortunately website is working but there is no records for my transaction history, travel history and balance is showing 0 (which is not true).

App doesn’t have any option to dis-link the linked card.

I accidentally linked two cards with my myWay plus account. Now there is no option to dis-link it.
I called customer centre and they told me that they don’t have that feature yet. This is so annoying.
Why application allow me at first place to link more then one card with one account?
I think developers and tester haven’t done their job properly. Also, product owners also missed it in UAT. What’s going on here?
ServiceNow has featured called validation. Using validation we can resolve this simple bug. I hope this issue should fix soon.

My god this is a terrible App. Clunky, basic and difficult to find the information you need. Try to do something simple like logging in is a journey of frustration and often failure. I don’t know who designed and maintains the app but it is a big fail.

Does not let you log in

The app is slo and does not allow me to log in and if I have an account and have to reset my password. It makes you go to ACT government ID then I reset my password but because I have an old number on that account it won’t allow me to click anything different. Someone needs to fix this so that you can change your old number, but there is no way to change your old number.

Terrible

Terrible. QR is useless. Worked for the first 5 weeks and then totally gave up. It’s inconvenient with scanning on with finding the right position for it to recognise the QR. Bought a tap on card which can’t even connect to the QR or my account. The QR says expired when I’ve checked the amount on the QR and even tried deleting and resetting the app. I thought that maybe it would sort itself out over a couple of days but it hasn’t. Now the bus driver is getting annoyed and frustrated and quite frankly being rude. How can you get angry at a school student when it’s clearly not their fault? It’s an issue on their end it’s obviously not ours! Number 27 bus driver at 3:38 from Gungahlin needs training or even the sack. How can you laugh at a school student for asking for help? And make it seem like they are the idiot? And then proceeds to sharply break on purpose while a four year old kid was standing up out of their seat to walk to their grandfather. Then yell at the kid for moving around COMPLETELY stopping traffic just to yell at the FOUR year old kid. Disgraceful, there are so many occasions that I see where people get yelled at and disrespected by bus drivers. They need to better especially the bus driver of number 27 at 3:38pm.

Gaslighting app

I’ve been waiting at the bus stop for the past 15 mins, I logged on to myway+ and apparently a R4 bus went by 5 minutes ago..
no one else has seen the bus go past and now we are all left here looking at the paper timetable and checking our watches. Get it together transport Canberra!

Rubbish

Barcode system is rubbish, some scanners sometimes work, they are slow when they do work. Have to navigate to Profile to check your transactions which launches in a browser which you then have to sign in again which includes MFA so ends up taking few min everything you want to check they are charging you correctly.

Terrible user experience

I use the QR ticket due to carryover credit from before the migration. But you can’t see how much credit is left without logging in. But the app constantly says “an error occurred, try again” and I can never see what’s left.
Also the bus routes appear incorrectly on the map, often cutting through buildings and suburbs instead of following a road.

MyWay+ is poorly designed and even more poorly implemented, with endless defects and problems. But unfortunately it’s consistent with the very low and progressively declining level of service we’ve come to expect from the ACT Government.

Basic but works

App is fairly basic, anything that needs to be done re: your myway+ account is done through the inbuilt web browser rather than directly through the app interface itself. Account details and actions should be available directly through the app with card balances displayed, similar to other transport apps around the world. Ticket purchases should also be available through the app itself. The trip planner is available after multiple steps with a very small “from” section when you select a destination, so small it can easily be missed. Thankfully it seems to have been adjusted to default to public transport, instead of other options that would come up before public transport. Live tracking markers can be confusing as well (third party apps seem to have this better displayed). Overall it is usable, but with some adjustments it could be a great app for transport and ticketing in Canberra.

There isn’t an easily accessible “create MyWay+ account” button – this would be handy to have somewhere in the “log in” screen for those who don’t have an ACT digital ID or account yet.

The people behind this app should make a workable app which would make topping up (or anything related to the MyWayPlus card) easier. If its not ready, dont launch it. Go to Melbourne, and see how the PTV app works, you can seamlessly top up your linked Myki card through the app. Please fix this.

Bring back the tracking on Next There. You can’t see where the bus is until it reaches where you are. The way next there simply tracked everything that was near your location was much better. Very disappointing. A big step backwards in convenience terms.

Was this outsourced?

The app smells like it was written as a uni project.
Super basic UI and its essential purpose (buying tickets) doesn’t work.
I’ve just signed up for an account online successfully, used that account to sign into the app, but now the app throws errors and I can’t even sign in online.
The API is clearly failing to find new accounts.
This is pretty standard behaviour and I would expect this kind of bug to be caught before making it
to production.

The app is absolutely useless and why are we using QR codes instead of NFC to validate a ticket. This will be a case study in what not to do when implementing a transport ticket system… but wait, didn’t every other jurisdiction in Australia go through this?

Bicycle integration dodgy

I’ve got riding a bicycle as a transport option but the app just ignores it. Sometimes it will come up as an option but other times it will suggest I take another bus and walk even though I know riding a bike from a stop will be quicker

Takes several minutes to get the QR to scan successfully if at all. Do yourself a favour and uninstall the app and just buy a physical MyWay card instead because the app offers nothing practical outside of trip planning which works better on the website anyway.

Clunky app that doesn't work

The GUI on this app is giving very "10 years ago" vibes. Very basic, lacking features. People complain about the myki card app but at least you can accurately check balances and reloading is a breeze. The myway+ can't even manage to transfer balances from the old system. No wonder there are so many dollars that haven't been transferred! Just returns an error message that the card doesn't exist - but I can still log in on the old system and see my balance there.

WHAT A HOPELESS APP

I've used many different Trip Apps and this is the worst. Who ever designed this has n ver been a public transport user that's for sure. It doesn't fill the screen, doesn't give any indication of where the next bus is and doesn't just open up to the buses coming. AT Canberra, you need to junk this and start again!

Can’t see balance

This would be the second most useful thing — seeing the balance. Double clunky logins later and the trips and balance show in another portal. Send that to the front of the app please.

Card set up

It’s not obvious and haven’t use my account in years cause you could just tap with the machines or use your bank. Now I have a card number that’s supposed to be 12 numbers long but mines only 10 and on top of that it’s not sending emails for me to reset my account password so now I’m locked out. How the hell am I suppose to get to work in the morning if it’s not working. This is ridiculous.

Really mediocre user experience

What’s the point of having an app if you’re just going to make your customers log in via a web portal to see their balance and other crucial information?
I’m all for the new contactless payment options, but so far the app has a lot of room for improvement

Useless

Obviously the rollout of the new system has been going disastrously, but that shouldn’t overshadow the fact that this app itself is useless. For me, I managed to transfer the $12 I had on my old MyWay card to my new “account”, and wasn’t that worth doing for this app to just give me an eternal “error while getting your tickets - unable to refresh expired tokens” message? No matter how many times I logout and in again, delete and reinstall the app, or close and reopen things, I never get any further than that. On the plus side, my $12 balance appears to be safe. On the other hand, I’d probably pay that to not have to use this app again.
Good luck to all the drivers saddled with bearing the brunt of implementing this lemon of a system.

Difficult to get into once you close the app

I don’t know how developers can make an app so difficult to get into. As a senior, I have an iPhone which will save logon details (like all major devices). Yet. Do you think I can get back into the app. So frustrating. The app is as far as I can tell. A failure. Try again people. And make the login process easier please!

Poor start

Terrible login process that doesn’t have “create account” available. You can find it after some messing around. The ACT Digital ID is actually Choose Canberra, reusing an existing solution but changing the name. Fortunately Apple Passwords figured that out.

No real time , no alert, why the bike tho? This is about the BUS!!!

No real time showing on the app, like how many minutes until left until the bus arrives. The old NXT bus is better with the new one! Atleast the NXT bus is showing real time like 5mins till it arrives the bus stop. With MYway+ NOTHING! It even asked if I want alert when bus arrives, surprise the bus is right in front of me and no alert! Jeez!! The real time is the most important feature in the app! Can you atleast tell if the bus is coming or cancelled?

Live tracking for Buses?

NO live tracking on buses !! NO updates on Stop number (Stops only show numbers and no name however Apps show only names) why 😞
Couldn’t find a back button to select a different route,
There are 3rd party Apps like Moovit which resolves these basic grievances ☹️

Good first impressions

App looks good so far (at time of writing MyWay+ hasn’t finished launching, so real time data doesn’t seem to available yet). I found that the Journey Planner recommended I motorbike instead of taking public transport. I suggest removing car, taxi and motorbike as default recommended options. It would also be great to have an iPad and Apple Watch app in future. Wishing you success!
