The “Starbucks Australia” application is so poorly written in every possible way, that I quite literally consider it one of the laziest applications currently installed on my smartphone.
Not only is the interface clearly designed for an older version of Apple iOS (which makes the application extremely difficult to use), but many of the functions simply don’t work.
For example, trying to see the recent transactions only displays error messages, “stars” and rewards rarely update in the application and on a couple of occasions, the application has actually “forgotten” how many purchases I have made (thus, I haven’t received my “free” beverage).
Then there’s the fact that there is absolutely no Apple Pay / Apple Wallet support - which is even more ridiculous when one considers that we are moving towards a contactless society for the foreseeable future, given the COVID-19 Coronavirus Pandemic...
Unlike Starbucks overseas, Starbucks Australia is owned by the Withers Group (who also owns 7ELEVEN), which explains why our “loyalty” application (among other things) is different to that used by Starbucks overseas - but it does not justify such a poor quality application.
I love my Starbucks coffees, but this application is a complete waste of time.

What the heck is this?!? Starbucks is a global company ... with barely any Aussie stores. I got this app bc I am in Canada and want to buy some freaking coffee from Starbucks. But this app only works for Aussie Starbucks?!? This is stupid. You can’t just change country for the App Store if you’re travelling or working in a different place, because it cancels all your subscriptions. This is a serious failing of this app. I want my $20 back that I loaded on here!!! There aren’t even any Starbucks where I live in Oz. If I could give this app 0 stars I would. Fix it please!!!!

The navigation buttons at the top are to high and sometimes take multiple presses to work.
They sit to close to the clock and better symbols. Also, swipe gestures would be greatly appreciated! 😊

When I first downloaded this app, it was fine. Not great, but it allowed one to put credit on their 'card' and logged transactions for the sake of the loyalty aspect.
I never used the credit function (don't see the difference between this and just using Apple Pay or EFTPOS), so can't speak to that, but I used the loyalty scan code all the time making me switch to Starbucks for a short while.
I was able to load my 'stars' in the loyalty section, presuming it would lead to a redemption of a free coffee. When I reached this point, it wouldn't scan at any store (I frequent both Chatswood and Wynyard). Staff asked me to delete the app and redownload. Did so, signed in again - and all the stars had disappeared!!
RIP OFF!
Staff at Wynyard saw the stars beforehand, so they gave me my free coffee, but that's a disgusting design in the app...
Now, scan all I want, no new transaction ever loads. My Rewards stays empty. My Recent Transactions always results in an unspecified 'error'.

The app functions fine so far, however it is clearly outdated. It hasn’t been updated to improve performance for newer iPhones without a home button, as some of the in app buttons near the top of the screen don’t work on my iPhone XR. Developers should also make this compatible with Apple wallet.
