Currently (5/2021) the app is not showing Sydney buses in real time.

UX issues limit it greatly
The life bus tracking is great. However there are several issues in usability I can no longer put up with. Eg showing 20 of the same trip in a list or constantly resizing the map view.

Rubbish for Surry Hills buses
All of the buses I need to track (that pass through the Surry Hills area) don’t show up in the live tracking...which is the only reason why I purchased this app. If I wanted scheduled information I wouldn’t have paid for this app 🙁 probably won’t recommend this to others.

App keeps crashing
Great app overall but it has only started constantly crashing. Makes it a bit annoying when you need to know when the next bus is coming and you're in an unknown area with no timetable information around

Downloading issues
Now Map continually downloads every time I open the App. Was a a great app that I’d recommended to my extended family as getting to where we live was much easier when able to coordinate on triptastic. Now churning up 150mb of data per day makes it pretty useless and developers haven’t been able to replicate.

I've used this app for trains and buses and I love it as it makes using public transport very easy. It works well, the information is accurate and it's easy to use.

It's ok & shows if the service is late. It does not allow to advance plan for a set departure time or arrival time.

Can't search for a trip that combines a bus and train!
Instead I'm given the best option of bus and bus, which will take over 2 hours!!!

Mostly good, sometimes terrible
I am not sure whether to blame the app, or the information they are receiving from NSW Transport. But my experience with the app mood swings from very accurate to completely terrible. Countless times I've had the app tell me a bus is arriving in x minutes, only for the bus to never come, and the app tell me that it's already departed.
It's great for a general idea of the bus times, not so much for accurate travel plans

Best Sydney Transport App For Buses
Very interactive - simply click on the bus stops on the map to get a realtime update on when the bus will come. GPS tracking of buses.

Far too basic for the price. Can't even enter departure date and time. Have to scroll through days of services to get there. Would suggest TripGo instead. Far better integration and ability to plan trips.

Trip-not-so-tastic
Absolute rubbish at calculating trips that involve any sort of change, whether it is train to bus or from one train line to another. Can't enter a 'depart by' or 'arrive by' time for trips. Buggy.
Update: Persevered, but after missing a train due to incorrect data I'm deleting triptastic. CityTrain staffer recommended TripView to me.

It worked really well, I'd have given it a 10/10.
Then it started to get really buggy, if I ever looked up bus times it would tell me about busses in the next 20 hours or ones that had departed yesterday, but not the next due ones.

Grab an opal or mymulti and this app, and Sydney's impossible network of buses and trains opens up like an oyster. My go-to transport app. Quite complex though - use NextThere for the streamlined version.

Refund please
Don't look to this app for quick answers. Spends the first 10 minutes locking in to your location. You cannot stop it or use it at all while waiting. I only needed to search for a specific route i knew. It found the route but then tracked buses at the opposite end. If there is an easier way to do this it is not intuitive enough to figure it out. Tried it 3 times, it was useless 3 times.

Good for locals who know the routes
I like the detailed bus routes and stops on a chosen route and finding buses from my location. However, one major downfall is that the app seems to miss a lot of buses and times and input needs to be VERY specific i.e. platform number needs to be known. Even then a lot of services seem to be omitted or routes can't be found when they are definitely available. I would tend to use this app for Canberra buses in conjunction with another bus planner to find platform etc so I can input the specifics but that was a waste of time so now I seem just to use the other basic app instead. This app would suit locals who constantly utilise buses but could be overwhelming for visitors or occasional users. Additionally, app keeps crashing on iPad but doesn't seem to crash on my ole iPhone 4.

Great app, use it for Sydney trains and buses. Reliable and good use of real time data. At its best when trying to pick between catching a train or a bus or when I'm trying to figure out how to get to a new place by public transport.

Triptastic is fantastic - provided you understand its limitations
Firstly, Triptastic is very good for what it does. It looks for nearby stops, services and destination based on your current location and provides information accordingly — kind of like a trip planner turned on its head. Very good for unplanned or unscheduled trips.
You can set favourite destinations in the app and it will identify services to those destinations provided they operate from a stop within the range of the app. It is very good at identifying services and destinations which you do not have in a scheduled trip planner app, ideal for those impromptu opportunities to go exploring or catch a service that you might not be familiar with. The fact that you can also download other cities’ data within the same app is ideal for travelling and as the number of cities increases, so does the value of the app.
I have found, importantly, that it is not a trip planner in the sense of setting a start and destination point for your trip and then coming up with a route using scheduled services. Use it in conjunction with a trip planner app, as I do, and you are good to go.

Reiterating - no indirect trips!
This has the capability to eventually be a great app. However, and this is a big however, if you need to take a trip that is not a direct trip on one form of transit, then you're out of luck as this app cannot do this for you.

The maps are just beautifully presented: the route lines seem to change width depending in the time of day & frequency of services right now.
If you have the option of different services to get where you're going (train & bus) and want to know which really will arrive first, the way it presents multiple services with the realtime info is really handy.
