This has everything I love; an indie puzzle adventure with beautiful artwork, a bit spooky, cool mythology and story, and yet... it still falls a bit short.
I don’t mind paying because I know the creators would have put a great deal of effort into this and deserve to earn something out of it, but I do find myself resenting how short it is for the price. The biggest puzzle was navigating the map - too complicated and too many almost identical settings. I wanted more puzzles, more of a challenge than just “where was that cave again?”. I also felt like there could have been a little more exposition. I love a mystery, but I would have preferred something to explain what a year walk was within the game, not on a separate companion app.
Still, I loved the vibe and had an enjoyable hour or so playing it.

Waste of time.
I’ll keep this review short. I read the reviews, I bought the game. It didn’t live up to any form of hype or “critical acclaim”.
It is a mundane “drag and drop” adventure. The environment and music are nice, and the story has its merits. But this is barely a game, more of a scenic walk through a forest.
Do yourself a favor. Don’t waste your money.

I wish I could like this more
This game has a very consistent and considered art style, and a soundtrack to match. But I'm stuck - not because a puzzle is too hard, but because I don't even know what my goal is. I'm not sure where I'm supposed to go or what to do. Great atmosphere, not the greatest puzzles.

So at first I thought this is a really strange game. So I stopped playing considering it was difficult for me to understand the game and left it untouched for months. When my internet stopped working properly I got the urge to play the game again and this time it took me all my effort to finally complete all the puzzles. The game is extremely confusing without any background knowledge so I advise everyone to download the companion app after completing the game. It really explains EVERYTHING you see in the game it's just amazing. I'm really interested in this year walk and I'm keen to any new developing games.

Best Game I've ever played
First if all I love how this game looks. it has a creepy beautiful design that just works perfectly, but what I enjoyed most about this was the story! At first I was a bit confused with the ending but then I discovered the true ending and was blown away! Amazing game ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Masterpiece
Truly one of the best games I have ever played. The puzzles were difficult but not impossible which made finding the solutions very rewarding. Overall an incredible mix of stunning art, compelling writing and artistic transcendence.

Unexpected ending
What the title suggests. When I first played the game I thought the artwork and graphics were a very creative choice and it set the mood for the story. At first I didn't know how to move around and I lost myself sooner or later but I guess that's just me and my forgetfulness. The story line was different from most games I have played and fit the story well. After a while I realised that there are hints and clues all around me and I thought that was perfect and new. It gave me that feeling that most people get when they figure a solution to an annoying problem or something to that affect. There were twists and turns in the game and when it ended I didn't expect that there was another game you have to download and it just added to the experience. The ending was unexpected and made me think for a long time what he actually did in the end. I hope Simogo creates more games like this with the same experience.

Beautifully Haunting
Very eerie, very arty. This is the kind of game that will stick with you forever. Had a very well progressed story line, with a combination of folklore and mystery. Easily one of the most intelligent games I've ever played.
The story upheld a dark atmosphere from start to finish, and the art was ahead of its time in its beauty.
The idea of the companion app is unsullied genius. I highly recommend to get the companion app before the game, in order for a deeper understanding of the story.
Hands down, my favourite game so far.

Disturbingly beautiful.
Do not play this game whilst you're extremely high.. I could not sleep for 3 nights and kept having visions of dead babies, bleeding horses and demonic goats chasing me through the woods.
Other than that, totally worth it.

Chilling, brilliant!
Words cannot describe how much I loved this game. It is so clever and the story is so engrossing! It really must be enjoyed with companion to really get the whole story, which literally gave me chills! GREAT stuff! Can't wait for more apps from these guys!

Beautiful but creepy
This is one of those extremely well thought out games where there is more than you expect. It is very arty and beautifully designed but I played the ending before bed and I was scared!! Very creepy characters. I'm trying to get my family hooked on it now . (While it is sort of short it still took me a while to figure everything out)

A Dark Mystery
I enjoyed this game very much! The story behind the puzzles and images was very dark and enchanting. I will never fully understand the story, but I have a number of ideas based on this. I love it and I recommend it for everybody!

Beautiful game, a bit easy.
This game looks and feels amazing to play. It's visually stunning, and the touch controls are clever and immersive. The only qualm I have is the ending is strangely easy, and seems to lapse into a series of simple touch and drag puzzles, that feels a bit weak after the exceptionally good game that got you there.

Beautiful Game... Buuut.
Let me start off with this. This game is gorgeous and I absolutely love the art style in this game, and the sounds are spectacular. But some of the solutions to the puzzles are to obscure and I found the puzzles really punishing.
And some of you may like punishing puzzles! But I found the game to hard, and I couldn't find any way to put up any hints. Also the puzzle with the sounds in the temple are for THE MUSICALLY GIFTED! I don't play an instrument and I found that level hard to play through.
But at the end of the day, this game is gorgeous, beautiful, and amazing. Just don't expect the game to go easy on you!
And the companion App is probably the best history class app ever!

Beautiful & creepy
Wonderful graphics, great creepy atmosphere with music and visuals, but the gameplay can be a little awkward and frustrating. The story is great though & be sure to download the companion with it - that was the best part for me. Overall I think it is worthwhile, a lot of care and detail went in to making it, that's obvious. The puzzles are no fun
This game looks rather beautiful, but the puzzles are far from intuitive (for me anyway), making them rather difficult to solve. This translates to a lot of walking around and consulting the walkthrough to make progress .

Great, chilling game
I enjoyed this game, and finished it in one sitting of about 4 hours. I found the price completely worth it - the puzzles are challenging but not impossible, the graphics are beautiful, the soundtrack atmospheric, and the whole experience a little scary. I'm about to download the companion, it feels there is more on offer from this game.

This game is the best app on the App Store, I love the fact that to get the real end you actually have to study and search the companion app, the story evolves and you begin to understand how it all fits together.
Ignore all the complaints about how long the game is or that weird one about it being on a floppy disk. This game is brilliant.

This is an awesome game. Really wish there was more to the story and more puzzles because it was so enjoyable, but I'm happy with my purchase of this game because it got me so interested in "Year Walking" that I've been researching it myself. Beautiful
Amazing game, had an amazing storyline to it, I love how I had to read through the companion. I only wish it was a bit longer, it was about a hour of gameplay and the end. Would be good to have maybe other people's year walking stories. Overall I loved it and its little jump scares. They really put effort into it.

This is just one of those games that are perfect in every aspect.
The art style is unique and the first person works surprisingly well.
The only thing it needs is some dlc. But this is just an amazing game. Just get it, I mean your probably going to spend that money on a sandwich.

Entertaining, haunting, beautiful
I thoroughly enjoyed playing this game. I don't agree with the reviewers who complained that it was too short or didn't have enough levels, I think that misses the point about the whole experience. Focussing on leveling up would undermine the beautifully crafted story. Music is awesome, the design is compelling the game manages to keep a deliciously creepy undertone from start to finish.

Creepy and Clever
Don't believe the reviews that claim this is a primitive game that can be completed in under an hour. It's an atmospheric, charming, stylish and involving wander around a bleak and strange world with some original puzzles. Yes it should be longer but I loved it. Get the companion for when you finish it.

Amazing
One of the best games I have ever played for iPad, it is a beautiful game with great puzzles and music. The backstory is amazing and the fact that the developers tied the game in with the companion was genius, and the hint of horror was not to scary to make you want to stop playing but kept you with a high heart rate. I can't explain how much I loved this game and how I could play it more than once. I definitely recommend it!

Game of the year contender
When game reviewers bang on about a game "using the full potential of the platform" I think this is exactly what they have in mind.
Apart from what has been said in the other comments about the great graphics, sound, story etc. I would like to thank the devs for making an effort and creating something creative and beautiful.
Definitely get the companion app and definitely don't use any walkthroughs online. You'll be glad you didn't.

Beautiful Sounds, gripping graphics
As a sound designer, this game is a beautiful example of how music and sound can affect and even play an integral part of a game's environment. Moody and dark, they perfectly complement the graphics and storyline. This game makes me want to go to Sweden in Winter...yeah, it's THAT good!
But there's a few criticisms. It's a pretty short game. You'll probably get caught on a few puzzles; if you do, don't go searching for the walkthrough because it will just shorten your game experience too much. Take your time, think about the possible solution, and immerse yourself in the environment, otherwise it will be over too soon.
Grab the companion. It gets you through the final part of the game. Again, here, a small bit of advice for the developers: don't underestimate your audience. I began to suspect the solution to your final puzzle and was really proud of myself, but then you spelt it out in clear English and it kind of took the fun away. I know it's a fine line balancing challenge with reward, but you could definitely err more on the challenge side with the final few puzzles.
All aside, this is more of a work of art than a game and I'm delighted to add it to my collected apps. Great work team!

This would have to be the best app game i have ever played. Not only is the game play so different that it keeps you thinking through the hole game but the story it's self is so unique it keeps u think about it for days. Loved every minute of it. Just wish there was more. Also found best played with headphones on a dark rainy day. And companion app is a must if u want to fully finish the game

It's hard to call this app a 'game, as it was more of a experiences that chilled me down to the bone. It was an original idea with Swedish folk lore I was unfamiliar with, and very creepy artwork.
Many moments of the Year Walk experience felt shivers down my spine, my body tense and frozen to make my next move.
You definitely need to Year Walk Companion app to connect the experience with the 'game'. I used my iPhone to research the symbols in game which added more fright during my journey.
Anyone who is a fan of the Silent Hill series will definitely know what unpredictable chilling exceptions can happen in the supernatural horror game world like Year Walk. I highly recommend anyone this game who like to have their nerves put to the test.
Headphones are a must. Happy walking.

Just one complaint...
Everything reviewers have written is true. A brilliantly produced, challenging game. One quibble - the flickering screen - supposedly atmospheric - is very distracting, even annoying. An option to turn it off would be good.

Wonderfully different, intriguing, and a bit spooky
Takes time, patience, and an environment with no distractions or interruptions. There is no help. Just work it out.
The imagery is beautiful, and a bit scary - perfectly atmospheric, and suits the story. Get the companion app, and read it. All.
If you want a fast paced, first person shooter, look elsewhere. If you liked The Room, this is better!

What a great little game!
The journey you are taken on in Yearwalk, as short as it may be, needs to be experienced by anyone that wants to feel a sense of connection to a game. The beautiful, yet disturbing artwork, the interesting creatures you come across, even just the way it feels to wander around through the woods at night, are all so cleverly crafted that you will find it almost impossible to put down. I say almost, because the gameplay element is to take notice of clues and solve puzzles, (which can get a bit tricky at times) all the while delving deeper into the mysteries of the Yearwalk. I recommend playing with a pen and paper nearby to record anything you think you may need to remember. The music sets the mood stunningly and the animations are sure to give you a few shocks along the way. As stated earlier, the only criticism I have for a game of nearly $5 is the length. I would love to see a sequel or an update in the future.

I also want to add that I was fortunate enough to be able to play through Yearwalk on a rainy night, with a pitch black sky and my window open so that I could still here the rain even with my headphones turned up pretty high. If you find yourself expecting these conditions then I highly suggest you put off playing the game until then. It will be all the more worth it.

Incredibly well written
This is an amazing game from every angle. The audio is haunting, the graphics are beautiful, and the story is intriguing.
For committed players, the game cannot truly be completed and experienced fully without the companion app. This reliance on an external app, heightens the intrigue. Not only does the companion have secrets of its own, but it acts as a meta-narrative, anchoring the story in reality and historical folklore. How much of the game is based on truth and how much is fabricated?
Then there's the twist. You finish the game with a sense of achievement. But, was every stone left unturned? Walk again?

Could not put it down
Turn the lights off & put your headphones on...
This would make an excellent film (think Donnie Darko). Easy to miss clues for unlocking the alternate ending in the Companion App.
I would pay $15 to see a movie, this is easily worth the $5.

Needs a few minor improvements
Haven't yet gotten far into the game but straight away I struggled with the fact that there is no tutorial or hint system in the early game. Gameplay seems a little dull at first impressions and I found myself getting lost to begin with in the strange side scroll based world. Being that I sometimes don't know where I should be heading to, this can be quite frustrating. I would also critisize the price; to me it does not seem like a $4.49 game, more something you would pick up for $2.49 or no more.
Regardless it is still pretty fun, although I would appreciate some sort of guidance or hint system.

Simply put, one of the best interactive stories you can get from the App Store - Great atmosphere and story! Don't expect this game to hold your hand though, some puzzles are challenging but the pay off is worth it! Recommend to any casual/regular gamer - not for the kids though

A little guidance perhaps?
This was a real disappointment. It looks amazing, and feels great. But I had no idea how to play it. I spent 30mins trying to get it to do anything before finding a walk through, which instructed me on what I actually looking for to continue the 'game'. It too told me what extra controls were needed, and that I needed to have sound turned on (a feature I rarely use in mobile games - unless it is indicted). By that point, I'd already seen too much of the walk through to give a lot of the point of the game away and the experience was lost. And, like the description said, I did get the companion app, which told me little more than the backstory to the game that I could not work out on my own. I was also disappointed to see the length, as for the money I'd expect a much longer game with a lot more purpose. Please market this as the interactive story book it is, and for the sake of the frustrations of my short gaming attention span please give some indication on what the heck you are supposed to do.

Simply amazing.
From the challenging puzzles to the gorgeous graphics this game has it all. The horror component is far from a cheap scare and drives you forward, further into the realm of "Year Walk". Another example of a great Simogo game. Don't even think about it, buy this game.
