Description
This app gives you access to topographic maps, tracknotes, photos, terrain profiles and heaps more information for nearly 1000 walks in NSW, the full collection of walks from wildwalks.com. The walks are found around Sydney, Blue Mountains, Kosciuszko NP and far south coast of NSW
The walks range from 3 mins strolls to multi-day hiking adventures.
Something for everyone from parents taking a stroll with their kids through to remote overnight hikes. Most walks are in National Park, State Forests or Council bushland reserves.
Every walk has a photo gallery, topographic map, terrain profile, tracknotes, details on getting to the trackhead, weather info, user feedback and more.
Download any of the walks and store the maps, photos and tracknotes on your iPhone. Once downloaded the information is still available for when you wander out of phone reception. And yes, there is a little blue dot on the map showing your GPS location, assuming you have a GPS on your device :)
Many walks are 'reversible'. So if the walk goes from Thornleigh to Hornsby, then click on the reverse this walk button and the tracknotes, maps and photo gallery will now take you from Hornsby to Thornleigh.
You can use the handy filter to choose walks based on public transport, length, grade, park or other criteria. Explore your walks in either list or map mode.
Any walk can be reviewed for 30 minutes for free. All wheelchair accessible and short walks can be downloaded and used for free. To download and use all other walks in the collection simply purchase a monthly ($2.99) or annual ($7.99) subscription. The subscriptions auto-renew, if you want to stop this please make sure you switch off the auto-renew at least 24hrs before it is due to renew. ## If you have purchased walks on the old app please go 'update' page and tap 'Restore Purchases' to mark the walks you have already purchased as ready to download. -- this also works to update subscriptions on each of your iOS devices.
Whole new version and nicer design, re-built from the ground up.
By far the biggest feature request I have had is to get rid of the individual purchase per walk. Now you will find a much simpler, lower cost annual (or monthly) subscription that gives you access to all the walks. If you have purchased walks on the old app, they will be restored on this new version, even if you don't get the annual subscription. You will also find nice new and easier to read topographic maps. The walks summary page has more helpful information as well. You can still download shorter walks for free, and try any walk for 30 minutes, if you don't pay the subscription.

Useful app but needs more features
This is an incredibly useful app and no other app is like it that I have seen. However it’s incredibly outdated and looks like it hasn’t been updated for years or like it hasn’t been finished.
The main issue for me is there’s no ‘favourites’ or ‘saved tracks’ options. Also being able to click done on a track would be incredibly useful so that you can see what you’ve explored and what you’ve yet to find.
Other than that it’s incredibly useful and would recommend to any fellow hikers :)

So frustrating
This could be a great app but it has so many failings.
You can’t search for a walk!
You can filter walks by various criteria but why on earth would you want to sort them by how near they are? Seriously, I’m not interested in finding the walk which is furthest away from where I am.
The rendering of the walk routes on the map is clumsy, showing them as thick red lines until you zoom in so close that you can’t see any neighbouring landmarks.
I have the subscription version but I am unsubscribing. What a shame. I’ll be carrying a guide book in future.

The app is great in terms of the content it delivers but seriously needs search and sorting functionality.

Great but not perfect
It’s really great what you can find & get off this app. Been a huge help to me as a novice to get my girls out & enjoying the scrub.
A few tweaks like searching by name & saving walk would be great but all in all I’m really happy with it.
Unfortunately we are moving north to Qld soon I’ll have to wait until your maps reach further afield to keep enjoying it.

Used to love it, but now I can’t restore purchase
Don’t know what happened here. We have a family account, with annual membership until september. Try to restore purchase, but the red circle thing just rotates and rotates, but nothing happens.
Need to fix this now.

Great app for a serious hiker
I’ve been using the app for a few years now and love it. Recently did the three day 6 Foot Track, relying just on the app. The Track notes and photos are really detailed and helped a LOT every time I was unsure about which fork to take. Thanks!!

Helpful but limited features
I found this app useful for the extensive list of walks it offers however it lacks many useful features such as saving walks, live tracking and recording of how far you have walked, sorting the list by national park and others. I understand these apps want to make money, but offering 30min use of a walk before it is automatically deleted, come off it...

Love this app but room for improvement
This is a great app — I’ve used the Wild Walks website for years, but having your map on your phone, with GPS included is great.
My only criticism is that there is no “My Walks” or “Saved Walks” feature. To the best of my fiddling, it seems like every time you close the app, you have to search for your saved walks by narrowing down the filters. Not a deal breaker, but would be great if it were easier to access already-downloaded maps.

Walking in Australia enthusiast
This app works well but it is disappointing the walks are isolated to sydney region and snowy mountains. There are many good walks in the ACT and Shoalhaven regions. As well as everywhere else in Australia. Please put up walks in more locations. Happy to work on creating walks with the app engineer's.

Incorrect prices
This is a nice app, but why do you try to charge me $2.99 for a walk priced $1.99??? I've bought a LOT of apps, but I've never seen this before!

Excellent walk planning tool
Excellent tool for planning a walk. I've even paid for some walks even though I know they are free via pdf on the website- the app format is very useful.

Great list of walks. Explains the walks thoroughly and very easy to navigate. Use the app all the time. The new features and layout to the app are excellent.

Exceptionally...poor
Who in their right mind would use this app which requires us to pay to access all the information....when we can just use the Wild Walks website which is completely free?! Development team clearly was more interested in their bottom line, than the product they produced.
Requesting permission to access locational data all the time is also absurd. Virtually no app needs to have access beyond when you're using the app, and should not force you to choose between either always on, or always off.
Even little details like how the resolution of the app is so low, and clearly not tailored to newer phones, shows the inferior standard of the development of this app.

Low-cost Nature lover
It shouldn't cost me $1-$3 to see the tracks for a walk when it is free online and on google maps. Would pay a lump sum for the convenience of wild walks app but paying per walk when I go on 20+ walks a year is ridiculous

Too expensive
Nice app, but too expensive. 99 cents and some 1.99 for a walk is too expensive. You get more people buying the app if you made the whole thing 2.99, especially since it's free on the web.

Inaccurate pricing, no cross device support
Says buy track notes for 2.99 charges you 3.79.
Oh And the fact that I buy a trail on my phone and then can't view it on my iPad is woeful.

Lots of walks around Sydney, Bega and jyndabyne but nowhere else. I live in the north of the state and it is useless for us. Deleted the app immediately!

A remarkably useful app
How wonderful to have all the track notes (reversible), pictures along the way and a gps-synchronized map of bush walks. It saves buying the maps as well as ensures you are on the right track almost step by step.
I have found this to be extremely useful and a must have if you don't know the area well.
Have also found some great new walks.

Not reliable
Tends to shut down randomly. Refuses to open walk details when u r in the field, it needs to be setup to work offline so you can use it when walking. It is actually dangerous if you plan to rely on it.

Great app I have used it numerous times out and about the map feat is brilliant very well done, but please do us a favour and change the icon, it always gets people thinking I'm about to open a porn or bad dating website!

Excellent walk research tool and navigational aid
Within the Wild Walks app the 15 minute trial of each walk's map, photos and track notes provide an excellent research tool for deciding which bush walk to do and the scenery and terrain that you will encounter along the way.
Many other reviewers have commented that the maps and track data should be free. They are, but only for a limited time, while you make your decisions. No serious bush walker goes into the wild without a map, which cost roughly $10 to $20 each for a paper copy, so at $0.99 to $1.99 per wild walks map within the app, which shows your exact location on the route on your iPhone or GPS enabled iPad, I think they're great value for money. Just make sure you have enough battery or a backup power source (power monkey) to power your i device for navigation.

You have to pay for every walk individually, which is ridiculous. I don't know of any successful app that uses this form of payment. I would have paid a couple of dollars for the app of the content was free. C'mon wildwalks, I thought you were cool

Beware of high fees per walk!!!
The fees per walk are ridiculous, for example $0.99 for a 1.3km walk! I understand charging for the hard work to make this app, but charge a flat fee for the whole app, not per walk! I was really hoping to have an app that I can use when I am out walking without reception and would have been perfectly happy to pay for the whole app! I still give the app 4 stars because I love the wildwalks website and have used it many times.

Disappointed with the fees
I have used Wild Walks' website on multiple occasions and find it a fantastic source of information, and indeed this app is the same, apart from one important factor... they have added a fee to access the walk details!
I would have been happy to pay a small fee for the app, but not between 99 cents - $2.99 per walk! Just for info/maps that I can get for free on their website! My advise to all is to use their website and save the pdf's of the walks to your iBooks or a PDF reader. I am disappointed in you WildWalks.
