Linguee is a new kind of dictionary app for French-English, Spanish-English and other language pairs. You will find reliable translations in the shortest time, even when you're offline.

SPANISH-ENGLISH AND OTHER LANGUAGES

Dictionary for Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and many more. All dictionaries are bidirectional - you search simultaneously in Spanish-English and English-Spanish.

Our editorial dictionary was compiled by over 200 lexicographers in order to be capable of providing answers to the most difficult of queries.

Additionally, with the help of the integrated translation search engine, you have access to over one billion translations from the Internet.

Translations of words and phrases are shown after entering just the first few letters. Even inadvertent typing errors are intelligently corrected.

OFFLINE MODE

The editorial dictionaries can be downloaded for free and are subsequently available for use even when you're offline. This allows you, for example, to look up terms while you are abroad and have no data connection.

You will find examples sentences containing all the words you search for.

All of the dictionary entries have been recorded audibly by professional speakers.

Very useful app

Apart from a weird bug with the search field where the first letter of the word you type is not visible, I love this app. Very quick and easy way to find the meaning of words I read in German, and I like the real life examples of usage.

Best dictionary ever

I couldn’t ask for anything better. Free multi-language dictionary with offline mode and access to external sources such as Wikipedia. A clean layout and super easy to navigate. Keep up the great work!

Real world examples

Really useful for seeing how words are used in a ‘real life’. I use it a lot to help me choose the right word as regular dictionaries only give you limited examples of word use in context.

This app is so good I’m looking for the catch. I can choose to load dictionaries wifi or via my provider. I can choose offline from within the app. Translation is adequate offline but online - WOW

Fantastic! And free, with no ads!

It's really useful to see example sentences, and real transactions from the web. I have tried many translation apps, and this has the best design and the best combination of features. The only thing I would like is verb conjugations, so that if I search for "comprendre" for example, I could easily find "compris" etc. But that's a small thing.

Super App

The top app for looking up words and understanding their context of use. For each definition it provides examples and then a series of real life examples where the word was used.

A suggestion would be to add the Präteritum and Perfekt forms of irregular verbs. That would be heaven.

Helping me enormously in mastering complex German vocabulary

After studying steadily for the last year I am now able to read German mainstream and business news with a 3-5% unknown-word rate. That means I can reasonably get the gist without a dictionary. But this was only achieved through systematically working through articles using iPad tools including Linguee. Much of this complex vocab involves terms with multiple meanings, or terms that need to be understood as phrases, not single words. That's why Linguee was crucial to this mastery.

Awesome app

Helps by giving you the break down of the word (eg if it's a noun/adj/verb, gender, singular or plural), its infinitive word, common and uncommon meanings. Then there are web searches also giving you potential uses which may have slightly different meaning or applicability.

Would be much better if it showed the different gender/ pleural versions of the word. But great app!!

google translate with context

This app is amazing. It does what it sets out to do. It has better translations than google translate and has what it was missing. Context! Without that you can easily use the wrong verb or noun! It provides many sentence examples of the available options for that word you want, so you can use that context to see which is right! Perfect.

Stellar app

This app is quick and easy to use. It offers a dictionary definition of your word, plus examples of phrases containing it. Unlike google translate, it doesn't seem to be limited by bad spelling or incorrect usage. It also searches for external examples of your word in use. It's amazing.

Great when it actually works

Before the recent update, I found Linguee to be one of the best Translator apps available! However, after the recent update, it is now very, very far from that. After a week of trying to download the offline dictionary (because, as a traveler, it's quite useless if you can't use it offline) in different ways, I'm just about to ready to give up! I'm sure once this issue is resolved the app will be able to work its way back to its former glory, but until such time, this app is no longer worth a download.

Ok

It's ok but many of the entries I have tried have come up with nothing I'm looking for. The translations seem geared mostly to formal, business and technical contexts. I've seen a lot of translations of instruction manuals but less practical everyday phrases.

I'm trying to use it in conjunction with many other German resources and sometimes I'll find a good phrase but not often.
