Cheating with the dice
This app is very very well designed with excellent graphics. It’s definitely the best designed backgammon app you can find in the apple store. However the developer does not allow the dice to roll based on randomness but instead the dice roll always cheat to win the game when it needs to. You can almost guess what the dice roll will be everytime. If the developer changes the dice roll to be random then this app will be by far the best one in the store.

Also I noted that it appears that when one is winning, the computer throws several doubles, so suspect it is not always random.

Rigged
Totally rigged at higher levels. When playing the computer my roll to start and return to the board rolls are way outside mathematical chance. It could be a great game but this is silly and unnecessary.

Dreadfully poor strategic moves by the computer, particularly when the player is moving pieces from home into their final base and the computer has many pieces still to get into it’s home from a gammon setting but chooses to set up it’s home number spaces blocking instead!

Suspect game
This does not play well. The computer opponent gets extra doubles on the higher level. The game resets if you go back to menu whilst playing. There is no fast forward button to pair off. The controls are tiny and it’s too easy to make mistakes. It does highlight the move and it will add too. But it lacks ease of use and the “level” system is no more then loaded dice rather than better strategy. A lot of the iPhone backgammon games are not very good, and this is one of the better ones and is ok, in comparison to the others.

Get on board!
It's a great app. Minor, but I wish it wouldn't roll the dice when you have pieces off the board. Wastes time. Further, if it's impossible to win when both players are taking off, there should be a pop up that says 'you can't win from here. Concede the point?'

Great but cheats with dice
A very good implementation of the game with excellent graphics. Unfortunately on the highest level it only competes by cheating with the dice but it's still worthwhile to play if you love the game.

Rigged dice rolls
Not worth paying for this app. Dice roll logic is far from random. Makes gameplay very frustrating.

Only 4 stars because it cheats.
Been playing this for years and it is one of my favourite games. Watch out for the "switch" in one of the dice though when it's your turn. Don't know why there are different playing levels though given real games involving dice are totally random anyway.

Good but a significant deficiency
I like this game. It's quite elegant but suffers one significant deficiency. I believe that the dice work is not random. Way, way too many lucky rolls by the computer opponent. It spoils an otherwise lovely App. One other improvement would be the ability to forfeit a game during bearing off when it is impossible to win. But that's a nit compared to the non random dice.

Don't waste your time - need to fix the programming logic
This is a great game spoiled by the predictability of the computer player in hard mode. The dice will always - and I mean always - come up with the right number whenever there is a single opponent tile. The number of doubles it just happens to roll is unbelievable. The roll of the dice is not based on random numbers as a true roll of the dice is. The dice number is always predetermined as part of the programming logic. The computer player is beatable and resoundingly so, but need to use its own logic in return.

Machine is a poor player and relies on dice throws to win. This is primarily a strategy game but computer is not all that strategic. Ok fir fun but if you are an average to good player it will frustrate the he'll out of you.

Great - Happy to pay for this one!
You can turn off the sound, I play silently, and you can double more than once, if the score will take it! Minor bug in that a 1 will often assume its move, no problem though as that's when I use the undo. Would be an improvement if you could resign when you are being thrashed. I sometimes thought it was cheating, but nowadays win more often so think I might have just been a bad loser! Really good game. Only decent one I've found. Thanks.

OK but could be better
Very basic and limited functions. No stats, so no history. Even at highest level, not very challenging. Biggest annoyances: no way to resign if losing (going through all the bearing off in such cases is very very very boring) and it will only allow you to double once!
Nice graphic look, but I prefer to do without sound effects. Could be so much better than it is, so I only use it very occasionally because it's just not that interesting to play.

The computer cheats as we have to play the first dice rolled first but he does not so I cheat too by using the undo button when I know what his next dice roll is and it doesn't suit me. So haha got you there baby.

Great little app. Allows you to kill or waste time with the greatest of ease.
I do believe it does cheat tho- often it asks to double and then immediately afterwards it throws a very convenient double.
There is also a glitch with the number one... It often rolls forward on the other number by one place - without waiting for me to nominate that roll.

Good but could be better
Computer player makes obvious poor decisions at times even in hardest mode. Playing human opponents "online" would be a great enhancement. I would also like to see things like a "resign" option and/or an auto bearing off option (ie, for when the result of the game is obvious and you're just going through the motions).

Great game, some minor improvements would make it awesome
As I've read in a few other reviews the game would benefit from tally of wins, draws and losses. In particular, it feels like the computer player in 1 player mode has a bias toward winning, with numerous consecutive double rolls - odds definitely seem in its favour.
Otherwise, very fun and addictive game - spend way too much time on it, and probably the only game I have that I actually play.

This is a good game to pass the time or hone your backgammon skills. Would be better if the rolls were more random (see other comments) and if the difficult or hard selection was a bit more challenging. Accepts 'doubling' even when it has little possibility of winning. Would also prefer a tally of wins/losses overall. Good 4* game.

I play it a lot. Would prefer to have access to Rules it plays by, and 1-2 more options (game can force you to move 1 dice - say when it's been taken off the board - whereas you'd prefer to move the other dice number to get on the board. It's an odd thing which doesn't happen when you play manually). Overall, 4 outta 5.

Controls very finicky on iPhone so you frequently have to tap to select the right counter and the bearing off rules are odd. Stable. AI is stupid occasionally, stacking its home board instead of bearing off Different board designs would be nice.
