AppStore Rewind 2011, one of Apple's favourite iPhone finance apps of 2011 (UK and Ireland)

Closely monitor your household energy and water usage and the chances are you will SAVE MONEY!

This useful application makes it easy to monitor your household utility meters. Once you start entering readings, your usage, costs and savings are calculated and displayed in easy to visualise graphs.

KEY FEATURES

- Monitor up to NINE separate meters, e.g. electricity, gas, water, solar ... etc

- Quick entry of readings, as often as you like

- Use the rear-facing torch/flashlight when reading your meters (if your device has one)

- Local reminders so you don't forget to enter your readings

- Displays usage and costs for the latest readings period, and compares this with your average or previous year

- Plots graphs of usage and costs per day, week, month, quarter or year, so that you can visualise changes over time, e.g. against the previous year

- Multiple colour themes (black, red, blue, green ... etc)

- Import historical readings from a CSV file

- Backup your data and sync it between devices by email, AirDrop, Dropbox or iCloud

- Export your readings as a CSV file for easy import into a spreadsheet

METERS, CURRENCY AND RATES

- User configurable units, so the app could be used for other types of measurement

- Support for meters that count up (e.g. electricity, gas, water ... etc), down (e.g. oil), or where your readings ARE your usage (e.g. broadband data, rainfall, height, weight, temperature ... etc)

- Uses the currency from your device's region setting, but you can override this per meter (e.g. for holiday homes)

- Handles a wide range of rates and charges, e.g. fixed or time based rates, per-unit rates, stepped rates for up to 12 levels, Economy 7/10, time of day meters ... etc

BILLS

- Check your bills by comparing any pair of readings (e.g. those submitted to your supplier)

- View your usage and costs since your last bill, as well as an estimate of when and how much your next bill will be

POWER USER FEATURES (via a ONE-TIME in-app purchase)

- Support for rate changes, if/when you switch supplier or they change your rates

- Support for replacement meters, e.g. if your readings are reset

- Automatic backups

PRO USER FEATURES (via a ONE-TIME in-app purchase)

- Removes the restriction on meter numbers, e.g. for landlords, businesses and professionals

Added a new meter type, specifically for things where your readings don't accumulate (e.g. temperature, height or weight). Set the meter direction to average, and on the graphs the number of readings in a given period are averaged (rather than added). Feedback is welcome!

Great app

I like keeping a track on my usage. This app has clear graphics that shows if there is any change in my usage patterns as a result of changes that I have made, or if there is a problem with one of the suppliers.

What I would like to see is the ability to look at individual years, not just the current or previous year, but going back as far as the inputted data.

I have used this app for recording my meter readings every week since January 2011. I wouldn't be without it. It has never crashed and has been well thought out. Thank you.

The best app ever

4 years of using this app. Love this app, use it everyday for keeping data on my water usage, power usage, hot water usage and how much I make on my solar. I can easily change it from kilowatts to litres and this easy to use with my iPad as they sync together. Easy to read and understand meter reading. When my bills come in I can easily check them :)

This app is excellent, it does all it claims plus can adapt to any periodic fuel to ensure you have complete records. In addition to electricity and gas I have added winter wood supplies, very versatile!

Great app

This app is extremely versatile. I use it as intended for my electricity, gas and water meters but also use it to track my wood purchases for winter heating giving me an easy way to look at my total expense of keeping warm over winter. Five star!

Excellent app and would highly recommend

I have been using this app for over 18 months now and find it extremely easy to use and provides great usage charts to monitor your utility meters. It has been very stable and highly reliable across my various devices. I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to keep track of their utility usage and bills!

Empowering, and current

Meter Readings delivers on the promise of clarifying what typically are confusing energy offers. Once consumption is tracked, the app can assist with calculating what is, overall, the best offer from those retailers. It does require a little patience with programming the tariffs and such: really no more than is usual for this sort of thing. Like the outstanding "Account Tracker" app (same dev) MR offers layers of detail for tinkerers and is highly recommended.

Great App, use it weekly

Have been using this app for just over 12 months now and find it very useful to keep track of electricity, solar and water.

Once setup it is very easy to use. I input weekly on iPhone and then transfer to iPad for analysis. I track my electricity in and output to the grid as well as actual solar production. This gives a great overview of what we actually produce and use. Unfortunately in Australia we have a very complex system of charges so I only track production and usage.

It is very interesting to see the relationship between our weather, electricity production and water usage, when the weather is hot my wife uses more water on the garden.

It would be useful to be able to overlay three graphs , ie power in, power out and solar production.

Great, full featured app

This app has loads of features for tracking resource consumption. I use it to track my electricity usage on two circuits and it does this brilliantly. I love the use of the flash LED when taking readings and the daily reminders. The iOS 7 update is also well done.

Perfect

If you live in Australia this works perfectly. I have a 3 rate electricity meter and it calculates all 3. I have a 3 kw solar system as well and it calculates kwh put back into the grid as well at whatever rate your getting. I read my meter weekly and now I can see $$ I'm saving in a easy to read format. One of the few apps I'd happily pay more for $$ for.

This is a great app. It's the only one I have found that will cope with the complex tariffs and metering in Australia.

Saved me a heap of money

This app has definitely saved our family money on our electricity bills. By monitoring our usage daily, we started to see a pattern of what our main usage is in our house. It is also a great tool for working out what to expect on our next bill.

Great App!

I use this App and can't think of a thing to make it better. I'm using the water meter only at the moment and I don't have gas, but the electricity meter shouldn't have any problems.

Great Product

After watching our electricity bill spiral out of control I decided to give this APP a crack. Absolutely brilliant. Have already been able to see the difference of installing energy efficient LED downlights. Would love the ability to match quarterly bill cycles with quarter function on this APP. Our bills quarter is not Jan 1 - Mar 31 for example. Australian charges are pretty difficult to include in this APP because of summer rates and various rates based on usage. I'm just using an average of 30c per kWh. Otherwise absolutely superb.

Good product

Accurate calculator and a great tracker with good visual graphs.

Suitable for most homes that have 3 meters like gas, power and water. If you have more than this, eg solar, you may need to invest in the in app upgrade or sacrifice a less important meter.

All in all, a nice little app.

Pretty accurate

Nice and convenient. Don't really have to wait for bills to arrive and get surprised with the costs. Only works well for electricity and water. Others not that good.

Works great, value for money!

A little bit of work to set it up; however, after that it works great. About six months ago I had a water leak as a result of the faulty installation of a new meter, with the data that I collect every three weeks I was able to seek a rebate from the supplier and they didn't even argue. A great app, it works and it allows me to track my bills before they actually arrive.

A slightly steep learning curve at the set-up stage, but necessary to make the app useful for people in different countries with different providers.

Best electricity Tracking App

Love it, easy to enter data and graphs are perfect. Best app of it's kind. Would love to see (wish list) the ability to track daily solar production against usage for both PV & wind electricity generation. I use this to track my electricity usage for my sand alone system for consumption not for monetary reasons. Great app well done.
