Description

Slay is a simple to learn game of strategy and cunning set in medieval times. The island is divided up between the six players, and you must try to capture your enemies' land and link up your own territories to create larger and stronger ones. You begin capturing land by attacking with your peasants. Once your territories become richer you can combine peasants to make stronger and stronger people (Spearmen, Knights and then Barons) who can kill weaker enemy troops, or knock down their castles. Just be careful that you don't create too many expensive men or the territory will go bankrupt!

My go to game when I’m bored and have a spare moment.

But I can’t stop thinking about additions, not being able to move units so fast, building a port, invading distant hexes, ships that protect a larger sphere. Much larger maps, castles should randomly take back unguarded spaces around them. But keeping the simple hex system and dropping pieces on each other.

So addictive and fun. Simple to learn, endless challenge to master

I really, really like this game. It’s now my go to game when I have a few moments free. There’s so many maps. Some you’ll beat easily. Some will have you coming back for weeks trying to master.

Great game

As I said this game is great but it needs a few things. I think that the maps are WAY too expensive, but worth it. This game should have a random map generator for the amount of money it costs but it's still great. I've spent hours playing this game and I still find it fun. This game is great.

Such a treasure

This game has had my heart for over a decade.

Hate to write this

Super game - been playing it for over ten years on PC and now mobile. So simple... so devious. Classic skins and updated skins are available, and there's nothing quite like beating your enemies into submission.

Look past the graphics...

If you don't mind the rubbish graphics, this can be a really addictive, challenging game. The AI has been programmed really well so that their nigh on impossible to beat sometimes. The only real drawback is the price. I'd expect to pay a dollar or two less for this app, but am still happy I purchased it!

Please bring back old graphics!!

After months of negative reviews it's still not possible to select the old graphics...I'm rolling back my original rating of five stars to one. I've stopped playing because the current graphics are so off putting.

Like many others I think this game is addictive and the best strategy game I've found for the iPad - hence the five stars. However also like many others I have found the new graphics totally off putting even with isometric hexagons turned off. It was not broken before so no 'fix' was required. Roll back to the old graphics and throw out all the 3d views, horrible colours and silly themes.

Vers 3.1 a fail. Bring back classic Slay

I have spent hours and hours playing slay. My kids too. Fortunately we have been able to retrieve Ver.2.4 from backup to overwrite the current version, which has none of the elegant simplicity of the original. It must have taken a lot of work and resources to "fix" something that definetely was not broken.

Almost there

Thank you for reinstating most of the old game. I still have to play with the sound off, as the new sounds are extremely irritating. I now play classic theme, classic colours in 2D. I still can't play in the old rainbow colours, the new rainbow colours are far too vivid. Add that to the 3D shading on each hexagon and it still makes my eyes blurry, so I can't concentrate on it for long.

Anyway, thanks for listening to other people's comments; you're almost there!

Great game, good fun!

Very addictive, very absorbing! Top-down-view makes the hexes easy to see, the sound effects are an acquired taste but the action is tricky and fun! Highly recommended

I loved playing this game until the last update. It has ruined the graphics and made the game difficult and unenjoyable to play. Please provide an option to select the original graphics format!

Sorry. It's broken now

This WAS easily the best casual strategy game for iOS. I have been playing it for years at train stations, in line for lunch, in the lift at work, anywhere. Sadly the new graphics have broken the game and I can no longer play it. It is very sad that 'old graphics' is not an option as I have just lost my favorite game.

Automatic upgrade and can't revert!

As a hardcore slay player since the Pocket PC days I was shocked to see the new theme and layout with no way of my familiar UI. I have stopped playing Slay on my iPhone and have switched to my iPad where I have the old version installed.

Please provide an option for the old UI ASAP - this one is not good for exisitng players!

This was a great little time filler as it was. Exactly like the PC version. Latest update was a mistake, graphics and themes make it a lot harder to play. Should have left an option to play it as it was. A BIG DISAPPOINTMENT

This is an excellent old pc game, loved it until I updated-now it gives me a headache-the viewing angle is way off, the colours are difficult to differentiate and the men are much harder to place! How can I possibly revert to the old graphics-the simpler the better for some things:(

A fun strategy game!

If you're looking for a strategy game that's good to pass the time with, this is it.

Although, don't expect a good story with that strategy, or any story really, because this game is nothing but pure strategy.

It can get slightly repetitive, and lacks any sort of tutorial, but its core mechanics are solid, if a little simple.

I would heartily recommend Slay if you're looking for a strategy game that is trying to be nothing but a strategy game.

Don't be fooled by it's low tech feel, awesome game.

Easily the most played game on my phone. Different levels of difficulty mean there is always a game for my mood or situation. Some seriously difficult levels! It's worth the money. Great AI. Multiplayer by Bluetooth or online turn based like chess or scrabble would be awesome.

good game

the game is very difficult and mind challenging but it is a bit expensive.

whenever i try to make a peasant go next to a hexagon which has a spearman on it, it sometimes turns into knight even though ive got small fingers and the instructions are complicated to understand

It is pretty good turn based board game!

It is pretty good to play it, control your expansion, when you get strong unit, you have to be careful, for strong unit consume more resource, and the result may kill all units in this land.

The rule is a bit complex, but not too hard to understand, if there is a friend who already played this game, it will be better to explain by him rather than reading rule.

I meet some bugs maybe, when sometimes there is enough resource, but system kill all my units in that land. I am a bit doubt if there is misunderstanding for the rule.

The game is pretty good and kill a lot of time of mine, at last it will become a bit too repeat, for you can not find more high level tips. But before that, enjoy it.

Great, but could have a few touches made

Slay is a great turn-based strategy game.

Pros:

- Heaps of levels

- easy to play, difficult to master

Cons:

- No AI players

- No muliplayer

- No tutorial, only rules

- It's a great game, but not worth a price of $5 (esp if the iPad version is the same as the iPhone). For a game like this I'd expect to pay around $2-3. It needs a lot more 'polish' to give it a price like that...

My advice: Try the Lite first as $5 might be pushing it as it currently stands.

Here is what I'd love for the developer to add:

- different colours for each of your different opponent's people (all the peasants look the same!)

- a tutorial at the start (explaining all the components of the game and screen). Even with the rules, it takes a bit of trial and error to understand how the game really works.

Strategic Masterpiece

When i first got this game, i was annoyed that it seemed so simple. The reviews i had read had hailed this game as the coming of jesus. However, as i stuck with it, i realised that it wasn't simple, it has stripped the game of all the non-essentials leaving a streamlined game that does not allow mistakes.

This game is a miraclous answer to other RTS games on the iPod touch, whose only skill requirement is that you can press the 'create tank' button a gazillion times. With this game, it is easy to learn, but difficult to master. Every move must contemplated unless you want to watch your fledgling empire swamped by enemies or your troops starve to death.

Note: a good idea would be online and bluetooth multiplayer.

Well made!

I must say, quite a clever game. This is a well made strategy, making a near perfect ratio between skill and control. There is vertually no elements of luck and the idea of supporting your troops through the total state mass you own equals your army to an appropriate size. Simple game but quite addictive. I could not see this game working as multiplayer unless at the start of each game opponents would take turn in taking there hexagons, thus similar to risk.

Hookingly addictive!!!

Not everything is graphics. I used to have a ppc but I've missed out on this. I tried it out early today - 8 hours later I'm still playing! This is so much fun, strategic and my type of game involving strategic positioning of knights, soldiers, peasants and towers. A MUST HAVE - well, for the boys anyway. Dunno if this will be a big hit with women but I guess they are not the target audience.

Still play the pc version, glad I can play on the go. Some minor changes of gameplay rules from what I take as the original, and the requirement to scroll can get annoying, but both easily overlookable concerns.

Brilliant game!!

If you love strategy games then this is a must have. Perfect app for the iPhone. Simple rules but becomes considerably more challenging as the difficulty level increases. Engaging and fun to play, I always want to play "just one more" before switching off

Love this game!!!

I really love this game. I used to have it on my PC, and I also had it on my ipaq some years ago. And it is still a great way to kill a few spare minutes. It is not as flashy as the new first person shooters, but it is a simple concept superbly executed.
