Dreadful airline

It would be nice to be able to say something nice about this airline but sadly, that’s not possible.
From being pushed from check-in desk to service desk multiple times where no one wanted to help or take responsibility to non existent in flight service and a cabin crew that were pretty well on strike.
Useless airline which I’ll never use again even if they offered me free business class flights.
Thank god I’m flying home business class with Virgin !!

Bug in baggage declaration in older ipad and iPhone to check in

The app doesn’t work correctly when trying to complete the checked baggage declaration. It’s missing the option to say you have read the information. This may be why you can’t choose either I’m carrying these items, nor I’m not carrying these items. Honestly does no one test these things!! The work around is to say you want to make changes to the booking and that path lets you complete the checkin process. Also the text display is ridicously small on the iPad - and some would find it nearly unreadable. For an app that must be used countless times - do better.

Best flights

Difficult for family booking management

Meal options fail

I flew from Bris to Auckland on 25 Nov and returned to Bris on 9 Dec. for both flights I requested a gluten free meal for my wife, who is a coeliac. On both flights AirNZ failed to provide.
This was not merely disappointing, it was also medically risky, as my wife is also a type 1 diabetic and also has blood pressure issues.
Please look into this and resolve. Thank you.

Good Airline Product

Although our NZ142 Brisbane to Auckland was delayed today December 4, 2025, by a late arrival of our plane last night and the required crew rest time we had good communications from the airline and I heard no moans from any other customer .
The A320NEO product is very good and the overall service provided was great.
My only brickbat is that the purser had rudimentary command of the English language and struggled with NZ place names, and very embarrassingly provided poor updates to the passengers regarding connections. Sad.

Seat allocation crashes

I’ve tried multiple times to allocate exit row seats on my forthcoming Air New Zealand flight and had the process fail at the payment arrangements. I eventually chose seats at $0 but I prefer exit seats. .

New fit out on B787-9

My husband and I flew in Business Class from Raratonga to Auckland recently. We found the new fit out to be very functional and comfortable for the 4 hr trip. The service was excellent including food and beverage and it appeared that the flight attendants were more courteous and more attentive. Well done NZ. Smarten up QF!

Poor app

Your app has a deadly embrace on an iphone what I try & sign in (not using the confirm email) it ask me to enter the security code. I collect the security code and on returning to the app it refreshes and starts the signing process again invalidating the security code!!!!

This is the worst airline app I’ve ever used in my entire life. For the last 25 years, I’ve been travelling millions of miles and I phone a lot of travelling but this app has got such poor functionality. It really needs a major functional upgrade.

Easy traveling with sports equipment

I recently traveled to Tahiti to paddle outrigger canoes in the beautiful waters surrounding these tropical gems of islands. Dropping my paddle at the oversized baggage area and collecting on arrival, made the trip easy.
No extra baggage was needed as the weight of the paddle is just included in my overall baggage weight allowance. Contrast this with other airlines, whose baggage rules and regulations, are so complicated. Air New Zealand made traveling with a paddle a pleasure.

Regional flight to Napier turned around unsafe to land

My wife and I and including her mothers ashes travelling to Napier after travelling from Brisbane to Auckland were told by the pilot there was a strong possibility of us not landing due to strong winds, we tried and failed so turned back, that’s when you realise service doesn’t apply to you if we’re flying qantas to get to NZ, Air NZ gave everybody on our flight except my family a meal and accommodation vouches for the failed landing in Napier, asked why we were discriminated against the answer was you flew qantas international and you can sleep at the international terminal until your new flight the next morning, Well Air NZ go to the bottom of the ladder for compassion and no customer service. Qantas customers be warned of what could happen in NZ

Check in in app confusing

The app very easily kicks you out to the start of the check-in process. For example I checked about prohibited items. When I was done I pressed the Done button but it took me back to the start of the check in process. That was one example. Just took me 3 tries to check in.

Unreliable, unhelpful and unpleasant

Our direct flight from Sydney to Queenstown was cancelled last minute and we were put on a connecting flight via Auckland with a 5hour layover instead. This resulted in us being in transit for 15 hours and unable to pickup our rental car before they closed for the day. We had to get a taxi to the depot at 10pm ($40) to get our car after hours.
We asked if our return flights (Already connecting via Auckland) could be changed to a direct flight as compensation. After hearing several excuses at Auckland as to why they couldn’t make the change and several different excuses at Queenstown, AirNZ staff finally landed on “Your original flight was cancelled due to weather and this was out of our control”. This is despite us seeing several other flights flying the same flight path at the time of cancellation. We were then quoted a $2,700 fare difference to take the direct flight back to Sydney instead. I had a look on the AirNZ website and could see seats available on the flight indicated for $589/person.
So instead of applying a level of common sense, good will and compensation, we did another 10+ hour trip to get back to Sydney. We were prepared to do this leg once, to save money, but not twice.

Heartless airline

Booking Flight Issues

The app does not allow me to book flights. Oscar the 24/7 help with bookings service does not work for me. Annoying to say the least. Keeps saying I have no internet connection. The app has no updates I am missing. I am definitely connected to the internet. I gave the app two stars because I can add a booking to it once I have booked my flight online.
Looks like i cannot add a booking 🤯
What is the point of this app if you cannot do anything I have an iphone 13 mini is probably the issue 🤷🏽‍♀️

As a Gold tier frequent flyer my recent experience was not of a good standard. Firstly on check in at Gold Coast there was no recording of my Gold Airpoints membership.
I had requested a recognition upgrade from premium to business from Auckland to Vancouver several days prior to travel but was told they did not have a record of this even though I spoke with ANZ customer service several days prior. My husband and I were travelling together. My husband received his upgrade but I have not received mine.
When I queried this with the check in staff we were told our bookings were not linked.
Our travel agent booked our flights together on the same day so I cannot understand why they were not linked.
On the first leg of our flight no 188 we were seated in one of the very back rows in economy even though we had paid for a premium ticket.
The aircraft was extremely small and overcrowded.
Overall a most disappointing flight experience for loyalty frequent flyers

Love the app

Only thing wrong about the ANZ app is that I keep going into it it to look at the trips I’ve booked knowing nothings changed 😂 So easy to use, one suggestion would be to add a feature so you can request your complimentary upgrade from the app instead of calling.

Can do better

Average app at best. Mostly fails to allow check in suggesting you have to present to staff, yet other times it works. And yes all details are correct. Free upgrade requests appears to have disappeared from the app. Very cluncky with multiple redirects to sites. I'm sure in the end just easier to show up on the day but then the 2 staff available at the airport would be overwhelmed. When will Airlines stop taking passengers for granted?

Keep changing our seats when we’ve all booked to sit together!

Absolutely fed up with air New Zealand! We booked business class seats months before we was due to travel, picked our seats all together as we’re a family of 6 plus a baby and they relocated our seats the day of travelling so we wasn’t sat together! And now they have done it again to us!! I’ll only be flying with them again if there’s no alternative!!

NO WIDGET!!!!

Advertising and marketing for AIRNZ would be much more if the widget (united airlines countdown widget) were available. Customers would also be super grateful. It’s exciting to see the countdown BUT AGAIN would exponentially increase sales having a large widget which (like united airlines) stays on your screen as a constant reminder of the company and begs to book another flight !!!!

Available and Easy to use

I love using this app so I could book my flights with Air NZ anywhere at anytime. I can book nor change flight dates, everything you need for your ticket related with Air NZ, this is the best app for it. Its easy and available for everyone to use.

Difficult and trying

When required ease of changing flights this app can be trying at best of times.
You have to call the help line which slaps extra fees on changing flights.
Lucky they can get away with it by having the monopoly of the flights in the country and certain locations.
Don’t buy flexi tickets, there is still a fee to change. Paid and extra $300 for a flexi ticket and when required a change, got hit with fee of $450. Complete waste of time. There reason was due to the ticket being closer to the date. Total rubbish, revise your meaning on flexi you dogs

Best aviation App I’ve used

It’s rare to find an App simply laid out and that works easily when you are already running about at an airport.
It came to the stage I wondered if I would have to find a webpage to get the boarding pass - nope all in the App and if I found it, so will others.
Most airline’s Apps are designed to look nice and are a pain to use. Other airlines note: “Have a look at yours and then look at AirNZ’s one. Are you sure your one still works as easily as this?

Confusion all Sorted

On my departure from Goldcoast 3weeks ago there was an issue with my name having too many characters to fit on my boarding pass. With patience and the know how of an experienced attendant the issue was resolved in 15 min. This allowed me to continue my journey with peace of mind. Now I find that that glitch has been fixed for my return in advance. Thank you for that kind of foresight and personalised service.

Can’t use my credit

I have a flight booked and an outstanding credit which is about to expire. I have tried to use some of this credit to add a meal to the upcoming flights. Can’t do this on tour website and I have called three times and each time get told something different or I wait and wait and eventually the call gets cut off. Not happy!!

Air NZ was great today. Both flights on time and food on SYD/AKL very tasty and good.
Plus my bag arrived with me — which was not the case the last twice I have flown with them when my bag was lost for a couple of days.

Frequent flyer

To get hold of a human is all but impossible. Was on hold for over 40minutes before a human answered. Felt sorry for the lady on the phone as she did not create this mess. When discussing issues with flight staff I got not their department and have to make contact with Airpoints directly. Should have hotline at entrance of going into these places and also seats to sit while waiting. No email address to wrote but forced to apps that customers does have. Lots or room for improvement

They used to be excellent

So far this trip we have had a flight cancelled shortening our holiday without any compensation whatsoever and only got replacement flights because we acted so quickly and didn’t wait for them. In the process we lost our exit seats (that we had paid for) and today we lost them again for our return flight back. At 6’3 this matters. They have been our go to airline forever because they used to care.

Needs work

So I open the app I login and I proceeded to purchase a ticket. Once I've chosen the flight I'm offered travel insurance so I think okay i'll have a look. Big mistake as soon as you choose another option you get kicked out of the purchase process and you have to start again. Just login, purchase your ticket and keep your fingers away from any other offers otherwise you'll end up in an endless loop

Great app

This app is a game changer. It’s so much easier to access and make changes than having to look up my emails and figure out which flight is what. Only issue I have is when adding a booking to the calendar it seems to fail. Would love for this to be fixed, cuz Gmail doesn’t always convert the itinerary to a calendar event.

Appalling system

I wanted to change my flight online. It would not accept the change. It showed viable options but would not accept the change. Tried to change it at airport and speaking several times to reservations. No one was capable of making this simple change. Because they are on completely different systems. No one has any idea on what to do. Both blame each other. In the end I brought a new ticket.

Practical useful app

I have used many airline apps over the years - none of which I could highly recommend. However finally an app that does the job with simplicity and practical completeness . Yes I would highly recommend this app to all NZA travellers.

Bad luck or Bad company

My last two trips have been a nightmare with Air NZ, cancellations, delays, keeping me on hold for ages, kicking the can down the road bouncing around with no accountability. Mistakes by staff and generally untrained staff. The app misses critical information such as what ticket you have booked (no indication of a flexi ticket) bouncing around air nz websites in different countries depending on departure location then complete failure if something goes wrong because they cant communicate with each other. Absolute friction at ever stage and relativity overpriced, it can really make the beginning and end of a holiday horrible.

Awful airline

Nice UX. Some functionality not working

This is a really clear and navigable user interface. It’s well connected/joined up with all the other online services for booking flights, checking in, organising a taxi etc. Unfortunately it’s not letting me add the boarding pass to my Apple Wallet - but it’s there on the app so it’s not a biggie!

Disgusting service 😤

My flight from Auckland to Brisbane was delayed 6 HOURS!! This is unacceptable. I had to work nightshift that night & was late for work. I would have been arriving in Brisbane with plenty of time to spare. The staff were unhelpful, and only told us about the meal voucher after we waited 3 hours. They kept pushing out the time of the flight from 8:15pm to 8:45pm to 9pm…. All whilst we are standing at the gate.
Air New Zealand is an atrocious service.

No ability to track checked luggage

This app ready could learn a lot from the United Airlines team. After a 3 segment flight I arrived to discover my checked luggage was missing and had no way to initiate an investigation.
With baggage handling being contracted out to Swissport in many locations, I had to make 3, 90 minute attempts to speak to a customer service agent- on the first 2 calls the phone system hung up on me.

App doesn’t work

Have been trying to manage my bookings for 3 days now and the app keeps coming up with error message. Have tried to contact Air New Zealand twice and had to give up after listening to reall bad music for over 3 hours both times. Stop blaming COVID and the weather (??) for your staff shortages and pay someone to answer your phone. Amateur hour at its best

My first trip to NZ in two years . When I arrived at Melbourne airport , I noticed that the Kiosks were not allowing people to check in. It would have been nice if the system software had a message indicating the time when the system would allow people to check in. Plane experience, great , food fabulous, Premium seats best in class . Outstanding Flight Attendant : Briynie. Very cheerful and super at her job .

Not too bad, but…

Had a great flight.. staff were ok, food okay.. offered a drink and the flight was comfy.
One small complaint, no wifi !!!
One bigger complaint, 2.6kg over weight in checkin bag and was told I needed to ditch some contents into a bin or pay $170 for the extra 2.6kg. I ditched my toilet bag complete with shampoo, conditioner and personal hygiene. Only to see the flight was less than 30% full and I weigh 78kg, the woman nearest to me weighed at least 120kg… go figure.. 🙆🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Shouldn’t even be 1 star

Organise my tickets through the NZ app, made payments, no confirmation given but money pending from account. Called straight away no help but advised to give it time. Because this was a Friday night we left it until Monday morning called again and then wow what absolutely disgusting service we received. Said not our fault and can’t help. It’s your banks issue? First time would have visited NZ and wow thanks for what you did as I will now never ever spend a dollar there! What a massive disappointment.

Generic response to refund request

These are trying times and Air New Zealand has let us down. When we purchased our tickets there was only one flight and we purchased the full package thinking we were getting the best deal, but now we find out that it was non refundable and have been issued a credit. We were going for a wedding that had to be cancelled due to COVID-19. We have no other plan to travel overseas in the near future. Issuing a credit is extremely disappointing. Please do right by us and refund our money. Your generic response from a computer tells me that customers don’t actually matter at all.

First time last time . Melbourne Auckland return.
Business class seating configuration is absolutely horrible . Persons feet up near my head . No privacy, completely exposed. Stuff all storage, Boarding no dedicated isle for business , no wifi despite when booking showing wifi flights this happened both directions, barely acknowledged as I boarded. Told boarding had commenced in the lounge only to reach gate and stood around for another 30 minutes . Your apps terrible to navigate . Wow glad it wasn’t a longer fight.

Switch to AirNZ, you won’t be disappointed!

The app provides a fabulous service and I rarely need to phone for assistance.
Thanks for being such a wonderful, all round service provider! I wasn’t sold on Air NZ when I moved to NZ.. but a few fights in and they had me! Now I must have at least 100 flights under my belt since fully switching in 2017 and I have not had a bad experience to speak of, but so many wonderful experiences as a result of their amazing staff and fabulous support systems.

A1 Service

I recently travelled to Auckland & upon checking in I realised I had bought my old expired passport with me. I was taken to a supervisor to review my options & staff were amazing. Fortunately my husband was able to deliver my current passport to me.
Good on you Air New Zealand for you excellent customer service & reassurance I would be travelling on a much needed trip.

Useful

Good to keep flight details and info in one place via the app. Was useful during the fuel crises for alerts. Also able to get the gate number for connecting flights before it is posted on the board. Use the app to check in so u can use your phone for scanning the auto checkin barcode (else they say u have to print it)
