Crashing every time

App keeps crashing

I can’t use the app for more than a minute. It keeps crashing please fix it, i can’t set up a payment, search up transactions, literally do anything…It literally crashes on me every minute, sometimes I’m 90% through on making a payment and it crashes on me so i have to start over again!! Please fix i use the app for everything it started a few months ago and is seemingly getting worse :(

Good but needs more options

Good app but shows the transactions on the day the money is removed from your account, not when the card was used (aprox 3 days later). Hard to track spending/transactions this way and I like to know which day I went to which shop/spent that money. Would be great if there was an option to change it to show the transactions when the card was actually used, not when the money was removed from the account (after it’s been pending for a few days).

Security codes are garbage

So security codes were recently switched to the app. I’m not sure how it supposed to work, but for all I know they are getting sent to a prince in Nigeria.
After clicking on resend about half a dozen times (the codes never showed up), the app suddenly authorised the transaction without me putting a code in! Doesn’t seem to be a particularly secure system to me. I’m going back to SMS codes.

I have since tried again (against my better judgement) and it is still completely dysfunctional. I DO NOT recommend using the app codes as they clearly do not work as intended. It must therefore be assumed that they are not actually secure.
A word for Westpac - please ensure these things actually work before you roll them out.

Interest rates

I called today to see if I could get a lower rate and had the pleasure of speaking with Stacy. She was absolutely amazing—very professional, knowledgeable, and compassionate. She was able to offer me a lower rate without requiring me to refinance my home loan, saving me roughly $800 per month.
This is the first time I’ve truly felt like I mattered to someone in this process. Stacy made a real difference, and I’m incredibly grateful for her help. I hope she gets recognized for her outstanding service, as I’m sure she treats everyone she speaks with the same care and professionalism.

Terrible

This software is absolutely terrible, even in the verification phase. No matter how clear the photo is, it keeps prompting that a clearer one is needed. This has successfully deterred many aspiring Westpac customers. Very well, keep up your arrogance and rudeness. Don't update the software.

Westpac App

Having recently changed banks to Westpac, I think some features of the app are great especially the overall layout. I used to be with UBank and found their bill tracker to be extremely useful and intuitive. Unfortunately the Westpac bill tracker feature is nowhere near as useful. It doesn’t not when a bill has been paid and will have overdue reminders even though you can see the direct debit has been taken from the account. Hoping this will improve with time or if something can be done to further enhance this feature so it is the same (or better) than Ubank’s version. Also wish that when opening an account that you can opt in and out of having a card sent, it is a default but some accounts we did not want or need a card for.

How does the Westpac app still not have dark mode?

The app is pretty good for the most part. It’s reasonably responsive and has an okay design. There are certainly a good few bugs, especially when it comes to loading content, that need fixing. But my only real issue is the fact that somehow, after years of the new westpac app, it still doesn’t have dark mode. I cannot fathom how it hasn’t been fixed yet. Unfortunately, after requesting the feature a verity of times, I have no hope that the feature will come.

Insight tracking missing categories

I’ve been really enjoying the tracking and insights on the app, but starting in December some categories in expenses are just not showing up, notably. And it appears to be a continuing problem. Would give it a five star rating except for this.

Budget tools don’t work well

The app works fine for most things but trying to use the insights and budget tools and they’re pretty much useless because the transaction date is based on settlement date not actual purchase date. This makes every transaction 2-4 days later than the actual date and makes the budget cycles and expense tracking inaccurate and difficult to properly use.
We need the option to use the actual date the transaction took place in the budget tools

Poor system

I’ve had a disappointing experience with Westpac Bank. The service is consistently disorganized, and it often feels like the staff don’t treat customers with respect. Additionally, their banking system is flawed, and I’ve had my accounts blocked multiple times when attempting to withdraw money. This level of inconvenience and frustration makes it difficult to recommend their services.

Dark mode support long overdue

Terrible with tech

Never had a problem with westpac but whenever there is a technical issue they play dumb. A "new feature" arrived and they have *assumed* I want it. Can't find a way to undo it and now my card is locked because Westpac presumes that I can respond to texts. Why am I leaving this here? because the "contact us" button won't load.

I am presented with a message asking me to allow the app to track me. But there is only one button to press: “next”.
The button doesn’t work. The app is stuck on that one screen. All because Westpac wants to unnecessarily track me across other apps.

Update to review from June 2025

I have retained the same review rating from my previous review in June 2025. Despite all the app feedback provided to Westpac for free by users, there has been limited useful functionality implemented.
Based on other reviews, feedback appears to be often ignored or passed on. From a development perspective, it is unacceptable for a multi-billion dollar organisation to have two-month hiatuses between updates. At a minimum, monthly updates addressing bugs and feature implementation are required. No application is perfect and there will always be issues upon feature implementation. The developers at Westpac are not fulfilling their responsibilities. There have been issues with features released several months ago that have not been fixed despite existing feedback stating otherwise. As both a customer and a shareholder with app development experience, I expected better.
The development team still seems to lack a clear vision for the app’s purpose. Among several issues, the ‘updated’ app layout (over the old layout) remains messy and confusing for some users. It lacks a smooth feel and requires refinement (less is more). It takes longer than necessary to load statements if it does at all, other pages can be slow at times and sometimes load blank, and some messages in the message centre do not load at all. It is unacceptable to call this Australia’s #1 banking app when CommBank performs significantly better. This should not be occurring during final or RC phases. The development team needs to conduct much more QA.
I acknowledge that the wasted space issues are gradually being addressed by compacting more information into pages and tabs. While more can be improved, this is a positive start.
Dark Mode - repeatedly requested by customers, has not been implemented despite requests dating back several years. This is not a complex feature and development teams of all sizes are aware of this. It took Westpac over six years to implement Apple Pay / Wallet capability, and I found that timeframe alone to be unacceptable.
Chat Bot - poorly designed and ineffective. It struggles to understand simple questions and responses, fails to notify users of connection or transfer to a Human Advisor, and does not confirm the success of these actions. When notifications are received, the chat window may close abruptly, ending the session. This behaviour is unacceptable and warrants a one-star rating when prompted.
Notifications - are slow, delayed or absent. Users should not have to wait more than one minute to be informed of a transfer initiation. In-app toasts and notifications on the home screen are difficult to dismiss and contain redundant information that is unnecessary. These offerings are often not personalised to the customer.
Design - outdated and lacks the modern aesthetic of Apple’s updated design language introduced in iOS 26. The app does not utilise the new ‘glass tab’ design or the transparency features of iOS 26, giving it a pre-2020 appearance. The layout is disorganised and chaotic, with inconsistent tab designs.
Open Banking - functionality is underutilised. For example, the Net Worth tool requires manual updates to external accounts, unlike other financial institutions that use Open Banking to provide a unified live (not delayed) view of net worth. Westpac currently does not offer this feature.
Net Worth tool - updates internal account values with lead times exceeding 24 hours. This is an unacceptable practice. Ideally, users should receive hourly updates, or better yet, an instantaneous update via a pull-down page refresh. Users should not be required to manually update external accounts if Westpac has partially implemented Open Banking. Although this would increase complexity, it would demonstrate Westpac’s commitment to its customers’ financial goals.
Bills and Reminders tool - could benefit from several enhancements. A ‘Paid’ or ‘Mark as Paid’ button would simplify the process of marking items as paid without requiring the user to open each listed item. Additionally, a ‘Details’ button would consolidate information prior to opening the details of a listed item, reducing wasted space and improving usability. The issue of bill amounts not being updated on future bills should also be addressed. Bill details should be combined with the ‘view more’ page, eliminating the need for separate pages and reducing unnecessary clutter.
Credit score service - not currently offered by Westpac. Offered by CommBank through one of its subsidiaries, which is also free. To capitalise on this, the service could be added to the home page with functionality similar to hiding the user’s first name. It could also be incorporated into the Net Worth tool and optionally presented as a tab on the home page, similar to the favourites tab.
Home page - could be enhanced by allowing users to ‘favourite’ additional information, such as credit scores as above.
Reducing the application’s bloat is crucial. Pages and buttons that are often left unused should be removed, as there are features and sections which are unnecessary and difficult to find. The principle of ‘less is more’ should be applied.
Finally, users should be able to hide and add features they frequently use. This functionality should apply to all pages and tabs, with exceptions set by Westpac such as exempting the profile page.
I have provided my feedback in a comprehensive manner and do not require a copy-and-paste response or a phone number to contact. I am not interested in empty platitudes or promises of fixes. I hope my feedback is considered and implemented.

No notifications now!

Transaction date

Why doesn't this app show correct information about transaction dates and times? I don't understand why my transaction is marked as "pending" for 3 days from now for a drink I bought 2 days ago - that information does not serve any purpose to me. What's important to me, and most people, is when the money was deducted, how much was deducted, and for what.
For example, I topped up my myki card on Monday(29 Dec), but in the westpac app’s recent transactions it appears under yesterday’s transaction. Does that even makes sense any sense?

It asked me to verify my ID, take photos and upload them, now my photos were absolutely crisp and amazing practically photography worthy photos I tried at least 20 times and it still said it needed a better photo!!!! Are they crazy, a blind donkey could have seen how great them photos were!!!

Notification window would be amazing.

I would love if you could do an update that had a little window on the home page of the app that had all past recent/new notifications in it with the option to clear/mark as read. I have my notifications turned on on my phone and they appear as banners but once they are gone they are gone. I would like to be able to click back into a history of sorts for them. I would also like to be able to receive notifications for my partners and my joint home loan in this window as he receives updates/notifications to his phone/email but I do not and he always lets me know of the updates/notifications however it would make it more efficient for us both if it appeared in the notification window as well.

Happy with Westpac

I’ve been enjoying a banking relationship with what is now known as Westpac for over fifty years meeting some great people and receiving excellent service. A few years back when unwell I did not receive the support I required regarding my credit card which was cancelled. Some years earlier I was invited to and encouraged to increase my credit limit by more than double. It took me years to pay it off with regular minimum and bulk payments but it got paid. I cleared all that I owed to Westpac but there was no thank you from the bank. ANZ Were similar in their lack of support during my time of need. I have also paid them out on everything that was owing, and again no thank you. All said and done I remain loyal to Westpac and ANZ. The personal banking relationship with banks and their staff is but a memory of the good days.

Best app ever

Westpac’s banking experience stands out, especially when compared to other major banks like Commonwealth Bank, ANZ, and NAB. Their user interface is exceptionally intuitive and user-friendly, making banking tasks smooth and efficient.
One of my favorite features is the Insights tool, which helps me track my spending, budgets, and savings goals effortlessly. It’s a game-changer for personal finance management and provides a clear picture of where my money is going.
Another standout feature is their savings interest rate. I’m currently earning 4.75% interest, provided I meet the requirement of saving more than the previous month. This incentive motivates me to save consistently. Additionally, the ability to create custom budget categories, beyond what Westpac automatically generates, is incredibly convenient and practical.

Disappointing

Out of the big for banks, this must be the worst. Hard to use and navigate. Regularly have glitches. I cant login using face id anymore. I have to type the password in everytime even when it asks u to scan your face. Last week i couldnt see my transactions for more than a week! It shouldnt take so long to resolve their glitches. They wont even let you use an email address for your pay id. Mobile number only…..
Another major issue is the time stamp! It’s not accurate and very confusing. You cant have that. If i’m trying to look up a transaction, i want to know when it happened. Sometimes it’s 1 or 2 days out. It only show’s the date and no time showing as well. So it’s indicating what day the transaction but you dont know what time of day it happened and they cant even get the date right! That’s pretty slack….

Transaction list is difficult to find

It is a pain trying to find where the transaction list is.
The app still comes up with a list of all my accounts.
I will choose the account I want to check and the last few transactions will show… this has remained the same….
But… at the bottom it used to say ‘view more’ in red, and once clicked on, the lists would automatically go back as far as you need.
I cannot easily find a way to see these past transactions anymore. I had a lot of trouble even finding them with a very frustrating search. Now I need to find them again and I can’t remember the path I took to finally find them. These apps need to be clear and simple to use for an aging population who are not as technically minded as some. Please reverse it back.

Was a better app before.

Not sure what’s happened recently, on viewing my recent transactions, you used to be able to keep scrolling down to find previous transactions. Now it looks like you can’t. You can still access it via getting statement info but it takes longer and makes it harder to find simple info. I preferred it the way it was before and may change banks that gave a better app. This doesn’t make it easier for business customers.

I needed to reinstall the app to fix the issue. Otherwise for the most part the app works well.

Review is for the update- glitchy and loss of features

Reply to the dev response: a little better. Thanks. ……. The update is very glitchy and loses features I liked. If I go to recent transactions or transactions , even when changing the filters, it will not show me more than a couple of months of data. I used to be able to click on an account and go back as far as I liked. Now there are only a few transactions shown. Then in recent transactions I chose ‘this year’ yet it only shows me from July. It says “loading data” forever. Note there is a separate “financial year” option so it’s not like I chose financial year by accident. Another bug bear is if I click “recent transactions”it automatically opens the search bar, meaning half the screen is obscured until you go up and click the magnifying glass and turn it off. I found “transactions “ section and thought great this will work- nope. Eg I selected view the custom range 26 October 23 to 26 October 24, it will only go to July 24 saying “loading data” eternally as well, with the added frustration that my balance after each transaction is not shown (as it is on the recent transactions screen). I like to be able to check how my home loan balance and payments are changing over time. I used to be able to go back and view all data for the account by scrolling back far enough. Overall the prior version suited me better as this one feels like more clicks, however this could just be an adjustment period so not as worried about this. The transaction issue is very frustrating. Prior to this, you were my favourite banking app because it was clear, straightforward, intuitive and featured useful data. Please fix up these minor issues to ensure a smooth user experience and easy access to data that supports our financial understanding.

Don’t want you to see your transactions?

The most recent changes to the layout of accounts and your ability to scroll through your transaction history are just rubbish. You used to just be able to scroll down and see what was going on with recent transactions. This doesn’t work any more and is truncated to the last few. You now have to navigate to a separate search screen that is also similarly limited and truncated and you appear to have search rather than just being able to see the transaction list. This is only useful if you know what you are searching for and forces you to the web page to just get a to listing that used to be simple in the app. What a terrible user experience. I cannot fathom how you user tested this and thought this now convoluted approach to seeing transaction history was useful. If I am looking for dodgy transactions or expenses I didn’t expect it seems the we. Page is the only way to do it. Just rubbish experience.

Good to a point

I have used the app for ages and it has been relatively good. But it does have limitations. Trying to set up iPhone wallet wouldn’t work and had to be done manually. For some weeks now I have been trying to change my email address. If I go to support it advises me to use the app. I have 2 addresses in my profile. One listed as preferred. If is impossible to change which address is preferred and impossible to delete that address. Any attempt to change email addresses reminds you that you already have the maximum number of email addresses.
When trying to contact help, apart from telling me to use the app, the service hung up on me. When I finally got through I was unable to access help without knowing a keyword set a long time ago. Hence I now cannot use online banking. All because the app is not working correctly.
Surprised that the app has not been updated for some time. I would have thought that it needs regular updates to keep on top of issues.
I got my problem solved by going to a branch. But I find it frustrating when I report something here and then I am told to send the issue to an else. Why wouldn’t you do that??

Quick view broken

This has been happening for the last month at least, my quick view before I log in will just stop working and not allow me to see my accounts do any types of transfers between my own accounts it’s very annoying when the purpose of this feature is so you don’t have to log in to do this and it just won’t work I have no settings that need to be “updated” and calling the banks technical support was no real help the only thing that works and for a short time is deleting the app and re-downloading it which may let it work for a day or two at most.

Professional Service

I have been with this bank for more years than I care to remember and at every stage I have been treated with the highest respect as a client. This bank maintains a particular style of service that is not just difficult to find in an ever greedy world moreover it is a step back in time when Banks had value attached to clients and client services and integrity was at front of any good business, this bank is what all banks should be, this bank is a Future Bank and all others should take notice.

Great but I wish it had some changes.

Easy app, always pretty good but personally I think the app should make changes to these things.
1. Accessing accounts for Sole Traders. When you are a Sole Trader and have your business under your personal name, all your accounts show up on the one screen. Not a major issue, but just annoying when you’ve got 4+ accounts. I wish there was a little tab at the top of the accounts section that lets you switch between BUSINESS and PERSONAL, listing the accounts below. It just irritates me as someone who doesn’t like clutter/wants to be organised.
2. Option for getting sent a card. I opened 2 new accounts for debits and savings, which I will NEVER use the cards for. Westpac automatically sends you a card when you open an account and I wish there was an option to select ‘NO CARD’. Because now when I access the cards tab, I have 5+ cards there that are unused and linked to accounts and it’s confusing. I wish there was options on this screen to delete card. Deleting it entirely (locking it+unactivating+detaching from account), including from the cards screen. I think it should be allowed to open accounts with no card attached. I want only the cards I’m currently using to show on the screen.
Otherwise great, works fine.

Good App Except For Date & Time stamps

This app overall is pretty good, it has most things you need from a banking app. Some features aren’t built natively into the app, and instead take you to a webpage, but it’s integrated well enough that it doesn’t take away from the experience. My biggest gripe is that transactions bounce around a lot in the app because the datestamp is for the settle date, not the date the transaction took place. This means transactions can settle out of order and cause a bit of confusion. It also means the balance ticker under each transaction is completely useless as it constantly changes what the balance was at for each transaction. Some improvements I’m hoping to see: • Datestamp each transaction with the date the transaction took place • Introduce timestamps to each transaction so I can know by the minute when a transaction happened • Work on making the app more native and less web wrapper • Fix the balance ticker under each transaction or get rid of it.

Slow and useless app

The app is really slow and some of the things doesn’t even work anymore after the update.
Like from the main screen, you can use the see balance shortcut anymore and gives an error by saying go through your setting and when I go to my setting everything looks good but still having the same issue.
You can easily open a new saving account but apparently you can’t delete it online nor through the app. So have to call but sometimes no 1 picks up and office closes quickly or some offices are merging with other banks so they closed so we stuck.
Last time called the customer service for some issues and the next minute I got 10 scam calls and since then I’m still receiving calls so regretting calling them just so my number can be leaked.

Either broken or stepping over the line as my bank

My app has been broken two weeks now. It won’t load my details on any of the pages. I keep getting a couple different error messages, a different one for each page.
“Somethings not working. Try again or come back later”. “Couldn’t show account details. Try again”. “We couldn’t get your card details right now. Try again”.
If this were any other app it wouldn’t matter but a bank whose shutting down locations to get cash out and pushing for cashless? Access to our money is crucial. For so long this was a good, reliable app. If this isn’t wide spread, I did get a message to update personal information that isn’t critical to you performing your service nor was critical to my security and I worry that this may be my bank overstepping the line as my bank. If this is the case I need to find a trustworthy bank ASAP

Terrible app now

Have been with Westpac and had online phone banking for as long as I can remember but the last few months the sign in constantly has a sign in error and I can’t access my account. I apparently had to update my password to a longer one when I logged in one day, and since then it is a lucky dip of wether it will say my password is correct or incorrect. At first I thought I must have hit a wrong button during my password but it does it every few times of logging in and I will sit there and slowly put it in and know for a fact it’s the correct password but it will tell me it’s incorrect then the next time say we can’t log up in right now. Nearly every time I attempt to login it will have an error of sorry we can’t sign you in right now. Most of the time if I keep trying, close app, continue trying it will eventually log me in. It is actually ridiculous! Please fix the app.

Overall, love the app but hoping for an update!

Love the app overall but this newest update on my iPhone is losing connection and dropping out, which happened when I had just pressed pay to someone. It drops out very frequently and every use.
I have the latest iOS phone update so I’m not sure what else I can do. If you could please fix this tech issue, it would be great to have a new update to fix this. I also preferred the logout button on the Home page - the new position on a different page doesn’t feel natural.
Normally, the app is very reliable and the features are easy to use - I was always a big fan and enjoyed using it.

Just ok

It’s okay and reasonably bug free compared to the Bank of Melbourne app. Lots of bad design though. If banks are going to close down all their branches bc they’re “going digital”, then invest all that money in an actual in house development team and keep your app regularly updated. Sick of these big companies outsourcing devs only when you feel you the need to update your app.
Particularly it has a terrible layout with all the important things buried behind screens. I for the life of me cannot workout how where the find atm feature is… this seems like a top 5 button that should be obvious. The fact that I can’t copy my bsb or account number individually is ridiculous. This is nightmare when filling out a form because you have to past it into a note app, copy the individual number, and then past and go back to delete the note. Again, basic feature. Also the widgets are useless. I don’t need to know my last transaction on the fly. I need to know my balance. Why is this not a widget and yet the other is? Again, it seems like someone who doesn’t use internet banking designed this app.

Feature request - money pots

Overall happy with the app but was wondering if i could request a feature.
I would like some kind of ‘money pots’ feature within savings account so that I could just have 1 savings account but different pots to allocate the savings to ie one pot for a car, one pot for furniture, one pot for shopping etc etc.
Doesnt necessarily have to be exclusive to a savings account… i just want to be able to get my salary, and easily uphold my budget plan by automatically allocating funds to the pots that im saving for rather than having multiple accounts if that makes sense

App works good until there’s an outage…

The app goes down frequently in the late hours on the weekend (presumably for maintenance). Not great if you happen to be out for a special dinner or function.
Aside from higher reliability, I’d like to see a simple app with limited access to your account, that can print out a hard copy of all transactions in realtime.
Trying to track spending, is incredibly difficult with debit cards that may not process transactions for days.
I want a hardcopy of my transactions, automatic produced on a paper spool printer, sitting at home & producing a hardcopy that I can use to verify the digital transactions are accurate & legit.

Seriously getting tired of this

The app is trash I have a debit account yet it still goes into negative can anyone explain how if I have $50 in my account and spend $50 how tf does my account end up negative $39 I have no direct debits coming form that account either there’s no transaction indicating where the money wood have gone always seem to only be West pac who I have this issue with either also the transactions are so out of place they’re completely muddled up so it’s almost impossible to determine on what day those transactions took place also not to mention the slowness and buggynes of the app I will strongly be considering switching banks again as this is seriously a joke and needs to addressed I am tired of westpac mis calculating the transactions and my account ends up being in negative even tho iv only spent the money that’s in my account and because it’s a debit account how can I possibly spend more then that because the card just declines if there’s not enough funds ??? I’m seriously tired of this I end up the bank with some desk lady who Sealy tries to justify to me how my account is right to be in negative by reading the completely inaccurate bank statements that’s show pants not made on the days it was made and general delays transactions being processed now I suffer the consequences of talks inability to properly organised transactions all I get is some rude staffer who tries to justify how my account could go into negative after only spending the money that’s on the account seriously can you’d make it make sense because I have never had this issue with any other bank

Your finance manager, Mamun, is exceptional. He goes beyond and above to offer an extra ordinary service to WP customers like me. Things do not end just simply by putting a dot as other finance managers of other banks do. He analyses the problem of the customer then tackle it with his years of experience where results are both beneficial/fair to both parties.
He guides/updates us every step of the way. Customer service post settlement was also present by continually offering other services that will surely benefit us e.g home loan insurance.
He is a jewel. We are glad that we found him again after more than 5 long years. Thank you.

Not so good financial app

This app is very very slow at times on my iPhone 13 Pro max. I set up password only login mechanism what I noticed today is it allows me to login with 2 different password which is scary. After Resetting the password again allows to login with old password. Tried to enable Faceid, it logs me out and then allowed me to log back in and takes me to some old version of the app which doesn’t have controller to go back or home. This app is absolutely freaking me out. Please don’t tell me to upgrade app, bcz it’s already in the upgraded version. Hope Westpac spend some more money in making app more reliable and user friendly.

Works but glitches too much

This app glitches too much. I can be trying to transfer money to pay for a purchase and suddenly cannot access the app. I can be just trying to look at my account balances and it tells me to check back later, 30 mins to an hour later same thing. I can never access the digital cards which makes it so frustrating when I am trying to pay a bill online but don’t have access to my physical cards. Also I get timed out at random times and twice it has happened when I was trying to make a funds transfer overseas, as if that process isn’t nerve wracking enough.
And yes I have the latest version loaded and have even turned off my phone so don’t kniw what else I am doing wrong.

Much better App, but still a long way to go

Improvements required.
1.) Searching credit card transactions. I find that unless you’ve got the expense exactly matched (capital letters, spacing etc.) the search field comes up blank when searching for previous transactions
2.) Home Loan account details, only shows contracted repayment amount. Doesn’t show what you’ve set to repay. Also, no easy way to edit existing payments. You have to go and submit a new amount
3.) Home Loan account details. There is no easy way to view years remaining on loan (factoring in extra repayments). Also no current way to adjust repayments and see the remaining loan in years and months if you make extra or less payments.
4.) No categorisation of spending (including credit cards) so that you can see what you’ve spent on a monthly basis and where.
If these were addressed, it would cover pretty much everything that anyone would need from a banking app.
Other updates required are bank / product related, not app. But having the ability to open and link multiple offset accounts would be amazing! Like CBA does.

App updates for the worse?

I’m not one for writing reviews but I felt the need to let Westpac know that the updates you have made to the app are actually not improvements! To see a list of debits/credits to my savings account I now need to touch the 1. magnifying glass, 2. touch filter and then 3. touch credits or debits. This function used to be able to be done in one touch. Then in a previous update it increased to two touches, now with this latest update - 3 touches! It’s quite annoying. I thought the point of improving apps was to make them more user friendly?
An idea - maybe add the ability to save your filter as a favourite to save having to go through that process each time we log in. Then the date and amount filters can be secondary to the type filter.

This app is great…

The new app looks so much better than the previous one! It’s good to see that the major banks are catching up with the times and adopting for the digital platforms. I’d also love to see some minor improvements to this app…
1: Work on making it so that transactions are in order of when they were made in real time, and so they’re not affected by settlement date/business days. This would really help me understand when I actually made the purchase!
2: I’d love to see this app optimised for iPads! Considering I like to use the larger screen sometimes it’d be amazing to have this new app properly optimised for iPad screens, and not a scaled down version!
3: Work on a new feature, that gives us insights into how we’re spending, how much money is coming in/out each month. This would surely help your customers better manage their money more easily!
Overall, good app, it definitely is better than an app that used to be just a mobile version of internet banking on mobile!

It’s good, ordinary , there is room for improvement

This banking app is well built but lacks a few good features things which other bank apps offer. Especially the onscreen credit card statement balances. I used to be with CommBank and it use to show the current balance on the monthly statement on screen when I open up the credit card tab. It shows monthly statement balance and also shows real time balance owing to be paid for last statement to avoid interest charges, without even going into statements tab., But on Westpac app I got to open the statement tab, find the statement ,open the statement, find the amount you got to pay and subtract the amount which you have already paid. It’s chaos on westpac app. You got to make it more simpler . Bring this feature on your Westpac app, then I will give you 5 stars.

Very bad experience

For starters, the transactions I make are out of order. If you brand yourself as a banking app then fix your main feature of tracking my money. The last transaction I make for the day could appear as the first one and the first transaction could be shown somewhere in the middle. Also with every update of the app the “goals” I set keep being either deleted or rearranged. Not to mention that the app just resorts the money in my goals on its own. How am I expected to keep track of money and feel secure about the bank in general when you rearrange my money without permission? Lastly the interface itself is not very intuitive and the app lacks many features that others have like spending trackers. If i could use another online banking app I definitely would.

Very happy except 1 thing

I’m ve try happy with the features of the new app, especially they have listened to my previous feedback and now have notifications for when money goes in and out of my account.
However, it seems that I have no longer received notifications for the money goes into my account (which it worked before) and I’m not sure why. I went into setting and check Notification, there’s still Push notification turned on for Credit transaction but I still don’t get notified. Can anyone check regarding this issue? Much appreciated

Lacking important feature

Please update app to include essential feature: to email transaction receipt immediately after transaction. This feature used to be excellent and used every time I made an important transaction (emailed from Westpac) Now, this is highly inconvenient to have to go back in to the payments and manually direct either a copy paste of details, or a screen shot of transaction but this lacks simplicity and ease that the email feature (one click) used to have. Please put this feature back in. I will seriously consider switching banks to have this feature on my phone - not having to use desktop. That’s not convenient on the go. I need this feature (email transaction from Westpac immediately after transaction, with the SAME button that used to be there..PLEASE PUT IT BACK)

Absolute rubbish

As far as im concerned this app/ bank is just another way for westpac to take overdrawn fees from you because they never display your correct balance. Which i do not understand. I always transfer money from my savings, BEFORE i purchase something so that i know i have the correct amount. I check my account each afternoon to check to make sure my account isnt minuses anything ive missed.
Then wake up the next day and somehow ive incurred a $15 overdrawn fee, for what??
When i went to bed my account still had some money in it.
Ive transferred money before every purchase but according to westpac i have had no money in my account when i made those purchases which is absolute bs. How the hell can they keep charging me $15 when ive deposited the exact amount for that purchase before i even made it.
They take the money amount immediately, it shows that i have said amount, but apparently somehow a few days later it says i had minus $60 even tho i just transferred $70 for i made that purchase.
Purchases i made say 1st of april are showing up at 6th of april? When it is only the 2nd of april?
Purchases that i just transferred money for from my savings to make purchase are showing that when i made that purchase my account is overdrawn?
How the hell does that even work. I no longer trust this bank and will be changing immediately.

Update is so bad my first App Store review is for this app

The new version is so terrible and disappointing that my first App Store review will be this.
There was no upgrades, only downgrades.
New update is terrible - I deleted and reinstalled the app because I was operating on the older version which was fine other than being ugly. Thought the newest updated looked interesting and had high hopes seeing how commbank has many features such as being able to track what I’ve spent my money on. Turns out the new version of the app takes way too long to load and sign in (old one was 2 seconds to load and very immediate sign in, new version takes 30 seconds or a whole minute.) I don’t want to wait a long time just to access my card. So disappointing. This might be the breaking point where I move to commbank seeing how great their app is when I’ve been too lazy to move banks. The basic features of westpac now takes way too long, and commbank has more appealing features on top as well.

Had less issues before!

I like the new design of the app but there clearly are a lot of things that haven’t been tested before to release the update and I’m surprised those issues still haven’t been fixed. For example when transferring money to someone I can’t put decimals as the “.” Button isn’t active?! This is quite a big issue in my opinion.
Also I have been trying to add a new payee via adding Bsb and account number, it keeps coming up with a pop up saying “sorry we can’t complete this action right now. Try again again later”. It has been the case since the release of the new app, I contacted the customer service and was told to delete and re install the app, nothing has changed... now I have to login on the web browser to do those things so for me there’s no convenience at all in this new app.
Please look into those “small” but very inconvenient issues ASAP. Thank you

Latest update

Overall, I have no problems with the layout of the app and it’s accessibility to certain features. I love almost all the new aspects of the update, especially the Face ID for login, however since the update the app has taken forever to log into and it often times out. At first I thought it may have just been the Face ID but I changed back to password log in and it still timed out. Unfortunately it’s not really a connectivity issue as I have had this problem at multiple locations, where half the time I have full 4G connection or above average internet speeds. Takes about 5-7 times for it to finally not time out and let me in the app, still takes a long time though. Before the update, logging in was almost instantaneous, no matter where I was, unless I had absolutely awful connection.

My app has been a lot more stable since the last couple of updates, I’m enjoying some of the added features but still feel like they could make it even better and with more personalised features. I love how ANZ allows you to set different pictures on your digital cards in Apple wallet as it helps identify which card you need to use easier than my 3 red cards in my Apple wallet. I also have a few different profiles but one of them I use 99% of the time so I wish I could have that profile set as default instead of having to change it most time when I log in. It just makes it an added step I need to do before I can bank. Also needs Dark Mode.

Horrific clunky app

Having refinanced from CBA to Westpac we were considering changing all our banking across to Westpac... but after a week of trying to use the app there is zero chance of this ever happening.
Not only is the app slow, poorly set out and unintuitive, but it also frequently breaks.
When I set up the app I let it use faceid, and saw options to set a pin for the app. However faceid doesn’t always work and once setting up faceid there’s no way to go back and set up a pin for the app. I’ve searched through every menu in the app, as well as using the app’s search function - nothing shows up for “pin” apart from changing the pin for your card. There’s also no option to turn faceid off once you’ve turned it on.
I’ve had the app crash, freeze on white screens, and even get stuck in a “chat with bot” screen with no button to close the bot chat - had to close the entire app down.
The whole thing runs like a website that’s stuck within the app, rather than smoothly like a well functioning app does like the Netbank app. The UI always has the “sign out” button across the top of your screen, no matter what screen you’re in.
Would not recommend Westpac for day to day banking, or their app.

Get into the 21st century with Apple Google Pay

The overall app is good. But 3 stars for still making us wait for Apple and a Google Pay. The ONLY reason I carry my fat purse into the shops is for my Westpac card. If I forget it, I just use my ANZ account or Amex.
I had such hope with an announcement of an updated app. I downloaded and discovered the “digital wallet” is only for emergencies. You need to log into app. Hit details on your chosen account and wait for an SMS authorisation pin to enter. If you had people behind you you’d be holding them up and trying to hide your balance from them. Embarrassing! The “wearables” are only Garmin, Fitbit or their dedicated Westpac band 🙄
Get with the 21st century. I’m finding less reasons to stay with you.

Major flaw not just in app but westpac transaction history period!!!

I find it a major flaw and inconvenience that not only the westpac app but the transaction history in general is super delayed!!!! My transaction history is NEVER accurate! I rang the help line this morning to find out about this error and was told that the correct date of purchase does not show up until the merchant has collected the payment from there end which could be delayed by up to a week...some of my last weeks purchases are showing up on my statement as being made yesterday! It’s confusing annoying and most of all inconvenient tbh! Also, the women from the call centre knew more about my account history than I did because she could see the accurate purchase dates in her computer but I cound not! I’m sorry westpac but this is a major flaw in your system I should be able to access my own information well and truly before you can otherwise why the hell do I pay account service fees??

Room for improvement

The developers are to be commended for what they have created, and I definitely find this app to be very useful.
However, I would like improved usability in terms if interface and what this app can add value-wise. I would like my expenses presented in graphs to facilitate budgeting and give me a better understanding of my habits. I want to have access to data that is sortable by category (finance, utilities, etc.) and this is a feature that Westpac is sorely behind on. Not only other banks in Australia have already implemented this, but my home bank has had this feature since its inception.
A feature to connect to the wallet / apple payor, and link directly to paypal / other applications that have payment options would keep me from having to input my information in all these separate apps.

So much room for improvement

I am currently with 3 different banks (Commonwealth and ANZ) and Westpac by far has the least user friendly and clunky app.
Commonwealth's app is intuitive and it's user interface is easy to look. The graphics transitions are smooth giving the appearance of a well running app. The app also allows the user to change the order of the bank accounts and displays an overall financial position.
ANZ's app is much the same, with the addition of being able customise an accounts display picture. Once again an easy to look at UI and easy to use.
Westpac's app however is the opposite. The UI is not pleasant to look at, and the transition between pages is slow and disjointed. There is no overall financial position or option to reorder or hide bank accounts. It's frustrating there is no ability to personalise the app to the needs of the user. Also, Westpac's sales technique of displaying current offers (savings accounts, super accounts etc) which are irrelevant to the user with no option to dismiss is just annoying. As one of Australia's 'Big Four' banks, it would be nice to see some of that profit go towards developing a half decent app to benefit it's customers.
If I had the option I would not continue banking with Westpac due to its poor mobile banking and online banking.

Could be better

Whilst it does the job of online banking well, its design is poor. This app needs a total overhaul.
The login process is messy - it’s as if I’m entering a second system when I want to view information. The app looks like it hasn’t has a design change in years. The UI needs to be redesigned to look more clean and seemless throughout the entire app. A simple change like having a picture in the background instead of a white page would make the app more fun to use! Also, this app does not support the iPhone X screen size, which is pretty ridiculous. Access to certain settings like PayID is annoy too. The apps of other banks like CBA, NAB and ANZ, all have modern designs that make the app more fun to use - so why doesn’t westpac redesign theirs?

Makes secure banking beyond easy

What more needs to be said? Switch to Westpac just for this app
Everything is so incredibly easy and quick. You don’t have to remember loads of crazy long numbers, it just works, but it’s still very secure. I know most Aussies supposedly hate their bank... not me. Westpac makes life simple in so many ways, while other banks turn every little thing into a nightmare
Pay direct to a person’s mobile number is neat (or get paid by just giving someone your mobile number!) transfer between accounts takes moments, checking your balance can’t be easier without putting on your phone’s lock screen (don’t do that)... accessing past statements takes seconds, making payments even oversees is just a few clicks
I’ve banked with other banks overseas (major US-based global banks) and they’re about 25 years behind in terms of customer experience
If you’re sick of your bank, try this one. Seriously

Still No Apple Pay

Westpac promised Apple Pay as soon as it was available in Australia, and despite it being available here for YEARS and at countless other Australian financial institutions, Westpac still has not implemented it or kept its promise at all. Primarily because they are deaf to the priorities of their customers, and fundamentally greedy - since they can’t extort maximum monetisation from customers using Apple Pay, they simply won’t ever support it.
I’m changing banks, and I won’t miss this terrible banking app or the placating false promises of ‘modern banking’ at Westpac.
PS For the benefit of your unfortunate remaining customers, consider updating the app for iPhone X now that it’s been out for MONTHS, or at the very least changing the crappy Westpac helicopter image you’ve forced on us for the last five+ years every time we open the app. We get it. You have helicopters, but still no Apple Pay.

Perfect except for lack of Apple Pay or an alternative

Perfect except for lack of Apple Pay or some sort of tap and pay solution like the one CommBank has.
The upcoming Beem is only for transferring money person to person, not for paying retailers at point of sale, so it’s pretty useless.
The upcoming wearable solution also isn’t very helpful as I don’t want to have to wear a separate item just for Westpac banking. It would be great if they at least had a device that attaches to my keys or similar - if they can do wearable tech I don’t see why they can’t make a device that attaches to a key ring. Most wearables are worn because they need skin contact to measure variables, I don’t see why we’re limited to wearables for tap and pay banking.
It would be great if Westpac just kept things simple and signed up for Apple Pay. If ANZ and many smaller banks and credit unions can afford to do it Westpac can too, they’re just unwilling to lower their margins.
Short term thinking, if they don’t provide an iPhone tap and pay function in the next six months or so I’ll seriously consider moving banks despite being with Westpac for over 20 years, and I don’t think I’ll be the only one.
Other than my Apple Pay gripe the mobile app is great, much better than internet online banking, hence the four stars despite the big whinge!

Ok, but requires some work.

Recently downloaded this app when I switched to Westpac from Commbank. I think there are a few things that are clunky and could be improved. Like, a grand total of all the accounts would be nice, and less clutter and words on the pages. Otherwise it's easy to transfer money around, which is obviously crucial, but I do think a total amount of money would be helpful. I think the commbank app was more user friendly. I dislike that if you set up the sign in using finger print ID, you do not have the option of using passcode. So if it’s cold or I have wet hands or my husband needs to access the app for me whilst I’m doing something, there is no possibility of that. That really must be changed.

last update is confusing

There is a flaw in app for location access (may be cached location access) . i was asked to allow access to location at launch through a full screen message. on settings screen (ios) I was not able to see the location access setting because iOS had not prompted me for locarion yet. it was a blocking loop and only way to get out of it was to skip and exit from alert. only then ios prompted for location access.
reproduce steps: have functioning app and complete login after allow access to location. reset ios settings (settings -> general -> reset -> settings reset). open westpac app after reboot.
