Not a good app
I used to like VLC Streamer. A few days ago was forced to upgrade. Bought the Remote App. Devices won't connect to my PC anymore through this App. I won't recommend this App to anyone.

Indispensable companion to VLC Player
Have been using this app for several years now and find it indispensable! Had minor problems in the past with having to re-run the remote setup on my PC but even that issue seems to have been fixed in the current version.

This remote is really reliable and quick to load as well as easy to use but I really hope they release an update which would make the remote turn the screen saver off. At the moment, if my screen saver comes on and I proceed to press play on a vlc video, the video plays but all I see is screen saver

Sensational app
+ all it needs in a wifi mouse pad option (like winamp's app remote .. Which I find lacks in many other specs but massive help having mouse pad inc in the remote app) Sensational app works perfectly is great for couch potatoes, rarely glitches.
Just needs one more thing! A option for a mouse touch pad - like in 'wmote' (Winamp) remote . That would make it complete ultimate app! No need to move ever!! :)

Great app
As I use a computer as media center, this app became essential and a well worth the purchase. I would easily rate as 5 stars but I absolutely hate what you guys did with the layout of the advanced controls.
Its really hard to have some precision on the time when I want to and to navigate and jump to parts of the movie became a hassle as the minutes and seconds are just too close from each. My clumsy fingers struggle to navigate and search the point I stopped.
Other than this, the app is fantastic, the ability to add the subtitles and search through my files are perfect. To be able to change the sync with the subtitles are awesome. The latest version had some crashes to sync with my iPad and iPhone. Keep up the good work guys 😁😁

Great concept, struggles with stability
Fantastic concept and particularly useful for media centres. the controls are good (but could stand to be a bit larger comparatively for those of us with chunky fingers) and intuitive. But unfortunately, it has a habit of crashing after about 30 seconds of being open though (enough to perform the actions you want, but means you have to reopen the app every time you want to do something). This outweighed its features and other benefits and has result in using mobile mouse as an alternative.

Keeps crashing
Great piece of software when it works... App crashes on iPad 2 and iPhone 5, both iOS 6. Also having connection issues with my server that requires me to kill the app and restart it. Hoping these issues are known and resolved soon!

Excellent, so so pleased!
Absolutely excellent so far! Took a little fiddling with firewalls to get it working, but have not had any problems since. No lagging or issues scrolling through my media content or moving between folders. Also very pleased that this app has no trouble reading my external hard drives that my movies are stored on. Incredible, and well worth paying for!

I can't believe it. Forget Boxee, Google TV, WD, Apple TV. Just install VLC,vhook up your laptop to the TV and buy the VLC remote. I can see a lot of people complaining about it but I've spent thousands of dollars on media players, smart TVs, remote controls and this is by the far the cheapest option. Yeah it's not amazing but for the cost and the set up time, 5 stars barely does it justice. Next thing is to be able to control my entire computer with an app.

Great remote, works well
I use VLC as a front end for my movie/music server, so I need something that works reliably and well.
So far, this is by far the best iOS remote for VLC. The devs have put a lot of effort into making setup as easy as possible. It's very simple, all you need to do is tell your VLC program to allow remote control.
Once I got it setup, I've not had any disconnections or odd behaviour.. It just works.
The recent UI update was a good step forward, it is more polished and the layout is better.
If you're setting up a home media server, highly recommend VLC + remote!

No backwards compatibility
Well after the latest update this app is now useless to me. VLC 2.0 doesn't render videos properly on my machine & the remote now won't work with anything except the latest version.
A fix would be greatly appreciated, the app has always had its bugs but was for the most part very useful.

Tried it, loved it, bought it
Tried the free version and it works beautifully. Easy to install, setup and use.
The purchased version even has things I didn't know VLC was capable of, like adjusting audio sync for those out-of-sync shows.
To the reviewerr below me (Zedoz) they actually do have the ability to control aspect ratio, it's in the advanced controls.
That would be my one issue with this program, it hides a bit too much in the advanced controls area. Otherwise it's a fantastic program, one I will use for many years to come.

fantastic!
I watch all media via my 27inch imac using vlc player. This remote, once configured, works seamlessly and instantly and is easy to use. I love it!!! One improvement that could be made is the ability to have an audio option so you can listen to the movie via your iphone using headphones. I like my movies loud but the neighbours don't appreciate it nor does my girlfriend when she's trying to sleep.
So if you could give vlc remote the ability to turn into a wireless set of headphones as well, that would be so sweet!!!!!!!! Thanks :)

Great with a few bugs
This is a great application but when it comes to searching secondary internal drives its very very slow and can take up to 8 miniutes but if your not in my situation then it is fast in general.

Not so good
It's ok though sometime does not recognize my computer, and when my phone locks then I unlock it, it won't keep the timer going for the elapsed time so I don't know how long the movie has left. When you compare it to the iTunes remote (which is free!) the vlc is about 1 out of 10 it's only good for pausing really the other features are clumsy and hard to use......or don't work

It's great but I wish I didn't have to buy another app just to turn my pc off. It should be an included feature even if it's just to turn it off, The rest of the features like restart and stuff I don't care about!. Anyway I look forward to seeing the off feature added.

if you are buying this in the hope you can watch movies on your ipad from your PC then its NOT the app for you, as it is a remote control for VLC.
if thats what you are after you are better off with free version of remote in itunes.
The only reason to buy this app is if you want to control VLC on your pc/mac screen while you watch.
if they had of had a small bit of operation on the demo lite version it would show this, but it doesnt.

Perfect in almost everyway.
Full access to you video or audio files, reads folders and files. A tap and it plays that video. Control slider for easy video fast forwarding(jumping) and full volume controls. It's just awesome. Highly recommend this app well worth $4.

Perfect!
This really is a killer app for anyone that uses VLC. After opening VLC I can pretty much do anything I need from the iPhone via WiFi! I can configure it to go straight to the media folder of my choice, cue up playlists, and now it appears that I can finally select subtitles in the new version! Well worth the few dollars.

Wonderful application!
After trying the free version I was so impressed that I quickly went and bought the full version, the extra features are so worth it.
This application does everything you would want a VLC remote to do, I am very happy with my purchase.
The only thing I can think of that would make this application even better is if Hobbyist Software and VLC somehow found a way to transmit the sound wirelessly to you ipod/iphone so that you could listen to your music/movie through your headphones rather than the need for speakers connected to your computer. That would be truly awesome!
To conclude, I would recommend this application to anyone who uses VLC and is sick of always having to move from your comfortable bed or sofa to stop, pause and play your music and movies :D

Even perfect is not perfect for this app and VLC. Excellent application, really easy to use.... Love it!!! But one request to developers, why we have to install this extra plug-in to get connected? How about adding that plug-in by default in the next version update of VLC Player? That will be really hassle free for anyone who uses this app. Please consider this point....

Functional - but dependent on application running
The ONLY thing that this app needs is not to be dependent on the fact that VLC is RUNNING on the target server computers. If it had the ability to launch the program, all missing funtionality would be catered for. After all, a VLC remote should be capable of starting VLC if it exists on the target computer. If not, it is less than a full-function remote.

Good but full of bugs
Great application, and FAST - loads my song list of thousands of songs very quickly. However, it is littered with bugs, such as adding folders to the playlists only works once you add a song, and deleting a song sometimes removes the entire playlist. Once you spend time understanding the bugs and how to work around them, it's a good application, as VLC recognises all formats and loads songs fast. Good start, but please fix bugs...

Great app just like the free version... though frankly for the paid version i hoped for more than just a few cosmetic changes (Skinable), such as the ability to use the right click on screen menu for subtitle tracks, aspect ratio etc... but maybe in an update please developers ;) then you will definately get 5 stars instead of 3 hope to see a new version soon lol

FANTASTIC software!
After trying the FREE version of VLC Remote i was so impressed on how easy it was to setup and use. The WHOLE process worked first go without my restarting either iPhone or Computers. Having all my movies stored on a NAS and another computer, i bought the FULL version of this software. Again, this was double click and it just worked. The way it should. :)
I also tested this while on 3G through the iPhones VPN. I connected home via VPN, waited about 10 seconds, Clicked onto VLC Remote and up came all my computers with VLC running, Navigated to the "External Drives" and played the movie.
I can now remotely play any of my media from my iPhone, from ANYWHERE!
I now use this as a SECURITY device, People think im at home even though im not! Well worth a couple of dollars!

Very much worth it
So you *could* mess around with HTML files and VLC's own internal server and hope things work with Safari; or you could use this.
It's not pretty and sometimes it isn't perfect but if you're using VLC you're probably used to that. Very happy with the application. Browsing could be a bit nicer but still very happy. Easy to use, too.

No alias or external storage support
It works, but it only allows you to browse movies on your home folder and will not follow aliases so you won't be able to browse to movies on a different computer or external hard-drive. It sort-of works if you have the files (but not the folders containing the files) already loaded into the playlist.

Pretty Simple!
I didn't have to type in a single character on my iPod to set it up - it detected my mac automatically, and setting up my mac was quite easy too, as it comes with a setup program. The buttons are thumbsized, and controls respond quickly, even on my quite ancient mac.

This app coupled with the iTap keyboard/mouse app means I can completely control my media mac connected to my TV entirely from my iPhone. I can browse safari, add BTs to transmission and play the downloaded with VLC and this remote app. Lost a star because I can't browse my external hard drive through the app.
