Description

Start new musical ideas with a curated selection of sounds and effects. Create beats and melodic parts, sample your world, and continue your tracks in Ableton Live.
Note is a place to form ideas, explore new sounds and find direction. Get your ideas out or just experiment until inspiration hits, using a selection of Ableton Live’s drum kits, synths and melodic instruments. Create your own sound palette by sampling with your phone’s built-in microphone. And use Note’s built-in MIDI Editor to sequence notes, beats and chords or make tweaks as you listen back
Follow your ideas wherever they lead by sending your projects to Live without leaving the app with the help of Ableton Cloud. Open projects from Live’s browser and keep working – you can edit all your MIDI notes, and all your samples and sounds from Note are exactly the same. Ableton Note users get a free license for Ableton Live Lite – simple, intuitive software used by musicians, producers and DJs around the world to write, record, and perform. For Ableton Move users, Note also offers the chance to keep working on a Set from your phone.
Begin with a beat:
• Choose from 76 Drum Sampler kits
• Tap out a beat using the 16-pad grid, or sequence one with the MIDI Editor
• Play each drum hit melodically using 16 Pitches mode
• Quantize your beat or nudge notes to fix loose timing or mistakes
• Add more layers of rhythm
• Create beat repetitions with Note Repeat
• Change parameters to shape your sound
• Experiment with effects or apply swing for variations
Start with a melody:
• Choose from 317 synth sounds and 60 Melodic Sampler instruments
• Play or program your melody or chord progression with the 25-pad grid, piano roll or MIDI Editor
• Set a key and scale to get instantly harmonic results
• Add more layers of harmony
• Change parameters to shape your sound
• Add effects to experiment with sound design
Sample your environment:
• Create your own kits by recording percussive sounds into Note’s Drum Sampler
• Record tonal sounds to create your own Melodic Sampler instruments
• Manipulate your samples by cutting, filtering or repitching them
• Sequence samples into beats, melodies and chords using the MIDI Editor
• Shape or transform your sounds with effects
• Import your own samples or audio directly from videos
Work with Audio
• Add audio clips from the library
• Warp tempo or adjust pitch of your clips
• Record audio directly using your phone’s built-in microphone
• Connect an audio interface to record external sources
• Combine recorded and imported audio with your beats and melodies
Capture improvisations:
• Play something, then tap the Capture button to keep it
• Play at a tempo that feels comfortable and Note will detect it
• Note will recognize the length of the phrase and create a loop
• Quantize it, add to it, or change the sound
• Connect MIDI hardware to play keys and change the sound of your instruments
Create variations:
• Note features a grid-based Session View layout
• Double your loops to create variation within clips
• Duplicate your clips and create different versions of your ideas
• Add, delete or adjust multiple notes at once with the MIDI Editor
• Create eight tracks with up to eight clips on eight scenes
• Try different clip combinations and song structures
• Export your work as an audio file to listen and share

CAUTION

I used to love using this app on my iPhone 6 over the past 12 months; although unfortunately my phone broke A couple of months ago and since then Apple has raised the minimum iOS required in order to download it. I’m looking for a fix now but obviously the best fix would come from in-house. As a purchaser of drift, I would really appreciate it. I pray to hear from you soon 🙏

Fun, addictive and useful.

This is a great little sketch pad for ideas on the go. You can get creative with how you use it too. I’d like to see it develop more over time, now that tablets are more powerful and quick to access, but in the mean time it fills a space nicely.

What a fun little notebook

Great for jotting down some ideas quickly, like a handy little notebook.
Please add the ability to record Audio in app instead of exporting the whole set as one audio track.

Very unintuitive and too limiting to be useful

Unless you are a fan of tapping your phone to make beats this app is pretty much pointless.
It at least should have an alternative way to create midi like a sequencer and some basic midi editing tools. Could of been a good idea but poorly executed

Goodbye Creative Blocks

Slept on this a lil at first but has honestly become my go to for sketching ideas.
Have used Ableton for years and didn’t have to watch any tutorials to use the app, the workflow is quick and easy to understand but really quite powerful.
I quite like how limited it is in that you are forced to play the ideas in rather than have extensive editing capability, it’s a nice level of committing to an idea without feeling too restrictive.
Keen for more samples to be added in future but the ones on there are all you need if you tweak a few things.
One quick note,
the note lengthening/reducing tool works incredibly slowly. If this was at the same speed at the nudge tool that’d be fantastic

Needs more features to catch up to GarageBand

Ableton Note is missing a lot of features that are available on GarageBand on the iPad. It does not support midi controllers.
Notes can only be captured by pressing pads on the screen and can’t be entered into an existing capture.
This app will need to add a lot of features to catch up to GarageBand.

Great addition to Live

Easy and Powerful

Ableton Live has been a powerhouse tool in the music industry for years, and now many of its best qualities have been squeezed down into an accessible and easy-to-use mobile app. It comes with a surprising amount of content to create with and in-depth tools to let you go about as far as you’d likely want to before porting your set over to a computer. Especially for someone who is new to or curious about music production, Note a great tool for learning, creation and experimentation.

No Step Sequencer

Good start but without a step sequencer not a very practical mobile app due to latency with Bluetooth headphones. Look forward to future updates.

Great little app for slapping down some grooves and ideas whilst you get those unsuspecting inspirational waves.
Easy enough to export your audio to your full setup and portable enough to not draw any attention whilst you program drums on your laptop and headphones in that cafe or on that train…

Amazingly simple.

Within the first few minutes I could tell the developers put a lot of effort into this app. They’ve really hit the nail in the head with the design, ease of use, and sounds that are available. Worth every cent.

No step sequencer

Audio lag on Bluetooth makes finger drumming hard. Not good for mobile use. Really needs a step sequencer. Lots of free apps with more functionality.
