Description

The Macquarie Authenticator app provides an extra layer of security that helps protect your account and personal information and is our most secure way to authenticate.
It's a mobile app that sends actionable push notifications for you to approve or deny online transactions and account changes or generate a unique one-time rolling code as an alternative authentication method. You’ll find it’s faster and easier than SMS, and it works more seamlessly when you’re travelling overseas as it’s connected to your device, not your phone number. If you happen to be travelling and you're not connected to a cellular or Wi-Fi network, the Macquarie Authenticator app will give you the option to use a rolling code to verify your transaction.
When you use Macquarie Authenticator, you can rest easy knowing your money and data are even more secure.
Features include:
- Receive push notifications for real time authentication to approve or deny online transactions or account changes.
- Generate unique rolling codes (one-time passcodes) without data connection as an alternative method to authenticate.
- Tasks allow you to manage pending tasks.

Integrating to the actual Mobile Banking app and choose own authenticator

I have a suggestion regarding the app. It would be great if it could be integrated into the Macqurie mobile banking app, or if users with a technology background could choose their own authentication app. I understand that security is a concern and not all users are tech-savvy, but providing this option would be beneficial to those who don't want to download an additional mobile app.

Not user friendly

Authorising or making a payment is not intuitive. Screen closes when reading text message with confirmation pin. Macquarie services are normally good, but this app is not user friendly at all. I understand increase security measures, but this app needs more work.

Got locked out when changed my username

I changed my username from my email address to just a word and got locked. Spent an hour on the phone trying to unlock it. Such a rubbish app full of bugs.

I called Macquarie and the operator advised me that the app does not work. They suggested a workaround to avoid using the app by making payments in small instalments over several days.

Watch

Please allow authentication with Apple Watch with the allow/decline buttons, rather than just issuing an alert on the Watch and forcing open the app on the phone.

Best authentication and security check

Let’s face it, this app protects your bank account better than anything else on the market. Yes, it is one more app but it is not similar to any other authenticator app, like the Google one. Well integrated with the Macquarie Bank app.
Absolutely a must have. I think other banks should learn from Macquarie

Is this app a joke?

It’s need to set up my banking on my phone so need the Authenticator app to do this. I go to set this up and this Authenticator app asks for the rolling code for the authentication app in order to set up my authentication app log in. Confused? Me too.
Already voting with my feet and in the process of moving back to our old bank after 1 measly year with Macquarie.

Not your regular 2FA…

I see a lot of people comments “…why do we need another Authenticator”…
Well, this is not “just another” 2FA as it enables real time transaction (payments, transfers,etc) from your banking portfolio. It improves security and piece of mind for anyone who have shared accounts, multiple authorised users to transact. I think it’s great! Can this be included in the main app? Probably… forced installation, I didn’t fell forced…can it be improved, probably, but that depends on the needs and expectations of the individual users, so hardly ever everyone will be happy. And if everyone is happy, something is not right ;)

Don’t need another Authenticator app

This app makes it difficult for real customers to access their accounts when they change mobiles and no longer have access to their old mobile. Making it hard for customers to access their money is a fast way to create security flaws - because people will look for work arounds. Sack your security team.

When your Macquarie banking app pass code expires (12monthly)
The device that the Macquarie Authenticator app is linked to, becomes de-registered.
This allows for potential exploitation of a users accounts, as a full set up of both Banking app & Authenticator app is required.

Not sure why I need this app

I have no interest in setting up a specific MFA app when there are already great alternatives available. There needs to be better options than having to set up this app.
Annoyingly it keeps bugging me to set this up every time I open the banking app… luckily I don’t use Macquarie for my everyday banking.

Poor app

If you want 2FA, you can’t use an existing TOTP app like Google Authenticator or Microsoft Authenticator. Don’t need yet another app that does the same thing on my phone. Macquarie please listen to your customers. I will vote with my feet and move to a different bank.

Stuck in a loop of death

Setting up the app requires you to get an Authorization Code sent to the app you’re trying to set up.
So now I’m stuck and can’t make payments. Useless piece of tech especially when more established solutions are available

Authenticator is a pain

A silly idea to have a separate authentication app. Mine recently froze and I couldn’t verify any transactions at all! The authenticator couldn’t even verify itself. So I deleted the app and now I can once again pay my bills. Tempted to go back to my old bank.

Does not work

I’m trying to set up my Macquarie app on my new phone. It asks me for my rolling code which is in the Authenticator app. When trying to add my bank account to this Authenticator app, it asks me for my rolling code. So I’m completely stuck. This is incredibly frustrating. I am now unable to bank on my phone... seriously??

Some feedback

I downloaded this app so that I could give it a review and provide some feedback. I intend to set it up and use it as a necessary evil to hopefully increase my security posture and avoid Macquarie’s trigger-happy fraud detection systems.
Like others, I have some suggestions on how this can be done better:
- Bake this functionality into the main app. It already has biometric locking.
- Ensure the notifications have actionable items (Approve/Deny) when you long press/view them so that Apple Watch support “just works”
- Offer up Google Authenticator support via QR code so that users can integrate it with their existing solutions for managing 2FA TOTP codes.
- Stretch Goal: Offer up YubiKey support, also within the main app instead of this one.

Good app

Glad to see Macquarie using a non-SMS 2FA method, however I wish it was integrated in the main app itself like Citibank.
Or, allow the ability to add the 2FA code generation to a third party app like Authy or Microsoft Authenticator.
It’s a little annoying having to have a separate app dedicated to only this function.

Half baked just like the main banking app

This should have baked into the main mobile banking app instead of making it stand alone. Poorly planned just like the main app which can’t even distinguish spending between primary and supplementary cards.
