It pixalates, freezes, the animated ball bounces, nothing. Shut down the app and start again, repeat ad infinitum. And it has NOTHING to do with the device we’re using OR the quality of the connection. It happens on our smart TV, mac, and on the iPad. All under 12 months old, all updated to the latest operating system. It happens if we have full 5g reception, it happens on satellite, it happens on fibre. It happens at home on fixed internet connection, it happens when we’re travelling. We give up on Kayo, and watch a movie on another streaming service- top notch viewing throughout with no issues. Watch a live stream with another streaming service, no issues. Same device, same connectivity. So the issue isn’t our end. It’s only with Kayo. Which is strange, considering it is by far the most expensive streaming service we pay for. Or rather, it was. Sick of paying top dollar for a sub-par service. Lift your game, pun intended.

I love Kayo and access to so many sports. I watch a lot of sports but NBA is my main one by far. As a father and husband that works full time most of the town I am watching the games on replay and not live and I find games are taken down too fast. Each game should be available for 7-10 days which they are sometimes but other times I have gone to watch a game from 3-4 days ago and it’s always taken down and that’s when I feel I’m not getting value for money I should just buy league pass where I can watch games anytime.
I would love if that could be improved.
Thanks

i love kayo and everything about it being able to watch so many different sports from all around the world but you dont get many games. Like i follow nba, nhl and afl mainly. and i get like 1-2 games of nba and nhl a day, if im lucky. i would like more games to watch instead of 1-2 random games because that just isnt enough. maybe like 3-4 games will suffice, so you can have a variety of teams playing and be able to watch for more then a couple hours. thank you and i hope to see more games!

Honestly the worst streaming service. Jerky streams, goes from HD to completely blurry. Have to restart the stream/cast at least 2-3 times during a NRL match, freezes during play, and they charge $35 a month for a sub par product.
Oh and internet speeds 93mbps download and 13.4mbps upload…. Kayo states minimum requirements for 1080p at 7.5mbps… so it isn’t a internet issue.

Canceled my subscription

Version 2.3.4
I’ve binned the app. It just doesn’t work. I know the devs will copy and paste the same response they have copied and pasted to every other review but at some point they’ll have to acknowledge they have a bad product.
- constant freezing
- constant drops in quality
- consistently fails to load
- freezes on the opening splash screen and the app becomes unusable even after deleting and reinstalling
- freezes in the transition from adds to the sport you’ve been trying unsuccessfully to watch for the last 3 minutes.
- SOOOOO MANY ADS
- for a service with so much advertising crammed in, it’s very expensive.
- UI is poor
- support is nonexistent. If there is an issue, it’s always the customers fault, even after following the directions given by support.
I’ve cancelled my subscription as have most of my friends. We now have one account between a few of us that we share but only when we have no choice as the game isn’t being shown elsewhere. Even then, we all hate it, it’s the absolute worst. A Last resort at best.
1/5 is extremely generous.

Footy and cricket freeze! Way over priced for how unreliable it is.

Kayo (aka Foxtel subsidiary) always freezes during the footy and the cricket! I feel like throwing my remote through the tv screen because Kayo is so unreliable and over priced. I have a few friends who had Kayo in the past too and left because of these issues. It seems to happen every year. I rejoin with the hope that it will get fixed, but no matter how many updates etc, it continues to happen. Maybe Foxtel control it to get you to go with them, I don’t know. I need to watch the footy without this unreliable Kayo service. Maybe I’ll just have to watch free to air tv, because it feels like Kayo only exists to get people to pay more for Foxtel. Considering how much Kayo charge, this service is very bad. It should cost under $10 to pay for all the freezes and complete disappearing programs year after year. Kayo don’t care and I found out they are the same company as Foxtel, so both charge an arm and a leg for this poor service. I have done all the recommended steps mentioned by Kayo, including the standard responses to these reviews. I don’t have any issues with other TV apps. I would like Kayo to fix this app, but I know they won’t because they want everyone to spend more than twice the amount to get Foxtel!

Going Backwards

 –
Theed9
 –
2024-03-03
Come on guys, what is happening to this app ?, each of the last 3 updates has taken it backwards. When sliding the time slider on iPad, the elapsed time no longer updates, so you have no idea how far you are skipping forward or backwards, especially on videos that are 4-5 hrs long. When you do skip in time, the video takes a lot longer to start playing again, very frustrating. Network error messages are appearing more and more both on signin and playback. Error messages coming up with profile error when selecting your profile. I know for sure it is not my network, all other apps on my system work fine.
For further suggestion, can we have the ability to skip forward or backward in number of minutes instead of just 15 seconds. 15 seconds skip is useless. We could do this on video tape recorders back in the 1980’s surely we can do a lot better in 2024?
Have been using this app for 3-4 years, price is increasing and reliability and functionality is going backwards. Please, can we have some improvement for our money ? Thank you.

Unstable, expensive and almost unusable

Update: hopeless feedback from this review. Simple suggestion to check the app is up to date - clearly the below has not been read. Biggest issue is stability of the app. Also the feedback on “picture I picture” does not apply when navigating out of the app.
You still maintain your 1-star as I can’t select less….
Have had ongoing issues with the stability of this service across multiple devices (iPhones, browsers, chromecast and Samsung TV). I have hope every time I see an update that the app may finally be fixed, but alas no improvement after initially subscribing several years ago. Recently tried reaching out to Kayo help desk, but was told they could do nothing for me as my subscription is through Apple - so here I am. Other features desperately missing are enabling viewing to continue while navigating out of main app (ie while another app is being used), and a “resume/continue watching” feature (every time the app crashes you need to fumble to find where you last left off and risk spoilers - frustrating on top of the general stability issues).

NEEDS UPDATES URGENTLY

Please add a PIP like just about every other streaming platform on the planet.
Massive issues with losing place in stream. I.e. If you are watching a program on your phone and you get a message, you must exit the Kayo app to respond. When you open it back up it often loses your position so you have to take a note of what minute you were at and find it again. If you’re watching a live event but you’re behind and it had since finished before you excited, this can be dangerous, as you go back to the app and select the minute you were up to but Kayo often changes the length of the programs, cutting bits out etc. so it can put you ahead of time which can ruin the result for you.
Often, when starting a live broadcast that is yet to finish, if you select view from start it will actually take you to live viewing, also ruining the result.
Kayo have removed many sports over the past 12 months, yet are charging more for a subscription with more annual subscribers than ever. It would be expected that some serious app development is in the works and is a priority to keep customers happy.
Lift your game Kayo.

How can an app that’s been out for so long, costs so much money, and has such a huge monopoly on so many sports be so so bad??
1. I am constantly getting errors of ‘oops something went wrong’ or ‘too many concurrent streams’ when there absolutely is not. Have changed passwords. Made sure to log out of all devices. Done every single bit of troubleshooting imaginable, still the same thing.
2. As said above, it’s been around for so long, but I’ve literally never seen an update from MVP. Even with multiple price increases. Why on earth would “resume” STILL not be a feature?? You legit have to take a photo of your screen if you want to drop off and pick up something later. Or, if you should perhaps be randomly kicked out as above, or just with a crash.
3. Even though I’ve clearly shown my preferences for sports and teams, doesn’t seem to matter. Still end up having to trawl through the horrible IA to drill down into what I’m trying to watch.
Rivalled only by its sister platform, Binge, in paying for a kick in the pants. Boo, Kayo. Boo.

Terrible

Continues to be one of, if not the, worst streaming app you can get. Streams regularly freeze and stop, forcing you to kill the app to get the stream working again. That’s all made worse by the fact that there is no option to resume viewing from where you had watched to. In 2023.
And this is when you can get a stream to load at all, as often when loading an event, it doesn’t start and you need to try again to get it to load.
Then there is the poor bitrate of videos. The quality is comparatively poor compared to competing services, and you’d be better off using a VPN and streaming from overseas in many cases, such as with the Formula 1 coverage. This is to be expected of course, since Foxtel doesn’t want to eat into their cable tv subscriptions, so they don’t care and won’t ever fix it. Spend your money on in person tickets

Frustrating, annoying and behind the times

Even on the same device if you leave the app mid stream you have to watch from the beginning again. My phone is littered with screen shots from Kayo so that I can remember how far into an even I was when I stopped watching and then I have to check the screen shot and start from beginning and cycle to the right spot. It’s madness.
The worst thing is that the watch from live or watch from beginning functionality is brilliant. But this one failing makes the app unusable.
Even worse their other app, Foxtel Now has this feature, but doesn’t have the watch from live or watch from start feature and can take more than 24 hours after the conclusion of the event to begin streaming.
So across both their apps they have all the features required for one very good app, but instead have two frustrating, broken half developed apps.
Very disappointing and clearly they don’t care, because they have known about this complaint for years now and still haven’t addressed it.
They think people will live with their sub-standard apps because they have such premium and exclusive content and sadly they are probably right.

Customer Service Poor & Spoilers

Regularly see spoilers in their headlines / descriptions, despite having spoilers off. When I send through screenshots to customer service they most often don’t bother responding at all to messages, or it comes across that they don’t care on the odd occasion they do. Ruins my use of the app.
Edit - After posting this, Kayo responded asking for examples to be sent to support so they can rectify this. I’m literally giving this review because I’ve sent examples to support which they’ve dismissed or ignored. As an example I sent a screenshot showing the copy on 12th March 2023 that ‘France have thumped England’ in the Rugby Union. Someone via the online chat dismissed it as not a spoiler because they define that as simply revealing a ‘key moment’ not the ‘exact result’. I then contacted app support who ignored the query totally over and over before eventually emailing me simply to say this was now resolved so the case is closed!

Replays don’t work

We don’t get time to see the super netball live. We use the app mainly on PS5 and it’s up to date. However every week without (or with immense amounts of) fail the replay freezes up and says video network error. Number 1 issue is we have missed many games now due to being unable to watch.
The network is fine because we seem to be able to watch the games of AFL live with no dramas. It just seems to be the replay stream that doesn’t work well if at all.
The second problem is that searching through the time to find where we are up to, if it was working before this action sends it into endless buffering and eventually failure. A “continue watching” feature would be good so we could pick up where it failed instead of attempting to find the exact minute. Obviously no failure at all is more ideal but this would be helpful too.

Poor quality + drops out when streaming

For the increasing subscription price I would expect a high quality picture when watching live sports. Unfortunately, I have noticed that the picture quality will variably change (usually become quite pixelated) throughout my sporting program and it will freeze play for several moments before resuming. For someone who has their phone set to notify them of live sporting updates this becomes irritable as I will be behind on live games and will have it ruined by my phones notifications (yes I realise I could silence my phone but hey sometimes I forget).
Furthermore, the app has recently been dropping out completely and refuses to work. I have been working with the latest version of this app but it still refuses to function at a high capacity. On more than one occasion I have been locked out of streaming for at least 20min.
Honestly, at this point I feel like I should start looking for other providers to handle my sporting subscription. Would love to hear what you can do for me at Kayo to help resolve my issues.

The only thing this app has going for it is the content. The app is buggy, the layout and navigation is awful, the inability to resume where you left off is a major sore point given the TV shows is a major feature of the service.
One such bug is that when exiting a stream when using your iPad in landscape, the menu rotates itself to portrait. You have to physically rotate the iPad to portrait, then back to landscape to get it right again. A right pain when you’re using a stand/keyboard folio like I do, as opposed to holding the iPad (doesn’t any actually hold an iPad to watch Kayo?).
Another issue is their customer support. Every time I’ve ever provided feedback on their many bugs and inadequacies in the software, they find a way to tell me that it’s my fault. They even got my name wrong when replying to me. It is amongst the worst customer service I’ve ever come across. It’s arrogance to the point of stupidity.

Good sports in a poorly written app

Whilst the range of sports available in the Kayo app is good, the app itself seems to be very poorly designed and written. One of my main gripes with the app is the lack of a resume function like just about every other streaming app available (including other sport, streaming apps). As a result, I have to manually note down where I am up to in a telecast if I wish to come back to finish watching it later (not really good enough in the modern app age).
In terms of quality, it is not unusual for the app to crash, or for certain telecasts to go missing from time to time. An example is today when I was trying to watch the full day 2 coverage of Supercars. When I select the day 2 full coverage, the app mistakenly takes me to the race only coverage of the first of the races for the day, not the full day coverage. I can’t then watch the second race of the day as the Kayo producers have not yet packaged that race individually and the app erroneously takes me to the individual coverage.

The interface is quite unintuitive as the colour choice for what is highlighted isn't clear.
I only ever watch one single sport but the front page constantly shows sports I have zero interest in. If during the night there was a game/match/race for the sole sport I watch, shouldn't that be front and centre when I open the app in the morning? I have to go scrolling for it each time.
Playback has been horrible lately and I regularly get the "playback error", often multiple times through a watch. The worst part is Kayo doesn't remember where you were watching from so I have to manually scrub through to the time I think I left at. During a 3 hour replay of something this is quite the bummer and doesn't seem necessary these days. This also means I can't close out and return later to where I left off.

Bu….fff…errr…iiiin…nngg!

Not even watchable. Shouldn’t be allowed to call itself a streaming service. Buffers every minute, cuts out mid program and customer support don’t want to know you. You will get a cut and paste response to turn your modem off and on & blaming it on your internet. I have 250mb/sec internet speed and no issues watching Netflix, Binge or Optus Sport in 4D. When you reply to customer support that you have tried all troubleshooting to no avail, you get a new customer support rep who has no history on your case and will cut and paste the same troubleshooting email. I literally have this email 20 times now! Now they won’t even reply to my emails at all now. The original streaming issues have not been resolved. From what I can see from other reviews this is a widespread problem. Don’t waste your time or money.
....update after developer response..
Dear Developer,
I love how you haven't even read my review and you copy a link i told you i've already had cut and paste 20 times by your supposed support staff that didn't help. 🤣💦 So typical. I did reach out to your support staff again Nobody has even replied to my email in the last month. How about you just work on developing the streaming platform so we can actually watch it.
Still Zero stars.

- Constant playback issues. Particularly after ads are played, will get a ‘Video network error’
- Have to sign back in almost every time I use the app
-The recommended streams and search are useless. All I watch is F1… when I open the app, the latest F1 session is not recommended to me… when I search ‘F1’ the actual stream of the race or the qualifying is sooooo far down the list after all these random spin off F1 talk shows etc.
And the biggest frustration…. NO PLAYBACK FROM LAST VIEWED. Seriously one of the most basic features of any streaming service and Kayo can’t figure it out. Every time it decides to have a ‘video network error’ which is constant.. I have no choice but to close the stream, and ‘watch from beginning’…. And then try and scrub to where I was without skipping too far ahead and spoiling things.. I have to hit that ‘watch from beginning’ button like 3 or 4 times every race…. It kills me..

Exclusive sporting content is the only thing keeping Kayo afloat. I’ve been a subscriber for several years now and I’m unable to think of any meaningful improvement or new features that has been added to this app. My viewing experience is frequently interrupted by video buffering or drop-outs, no matter if I’m watching sports live or replay. As a streaming service, this is the basics and they haven’t been able to stabilise this aspect of the app in 3 years. To make things worse, after experiencing a drop-out, I need to manually find where I was up to because Kayo hasn’t had the initiative to provide a viewing history, or to simply remember the last thing I was watching and where I was up to.
Then there’s the issue of connecting/casting to devices. Despite having no such issue with any other app, Kayo is simply unable to find my available devices.
Kayo leaves much to be desired, and I’m very doubtful there will be any meaningful change anytime soon.

The 4K image and content is first class… when it works. I am yet to be able to watch a single sport without closing the app to restart it to get it working again across any of their large selection of sports.
The Kayo FAQ’s say it’s your internet service that is the issue, but it happens regardless if you are streaming on full 5G reception or when I am at work on wifi, or at home on fibre to the premises NBN. It happens whether I’m using my laptop, my phone, an Apple TV or a PlayStation 5, I have used several different wifi’s/ hot spots at different premises, and the only way to have it working again is to close the app, reopen it and it works instantly, for about 10-15 minutes.
I should note that we do not experience a single outage with other streaming platforms, it’s just kayo. Once my discounted offer ends I cannot see any value given the repeated issues trying to watch anything vs it’s cost per month.

Please ensure your app is compatible with older devices. This app will no longer work on my iPad mini 2 & insists that I need to update to a version that requires an iOS this iPad cannot run.
The response from the developer is “ Hi there! To make sure we can keep delivering the best streaming experience, we recently made an update to our Kayo app for iOS devices. The latest version of the app has a minimum requirement of iOS 13 and above. To keep accessing Kayo on your iOS devices you’ll need to update your phone or tablet software”
So what they mean is best streaming experience for “some” customers, too bad if you have hardware that cannot be updated to iOS 13. This looks like it was a cut and paste reply as I saw it written on a review citing similar problems, so little real thought is shown or given to those with these issues. Also best streaming experience? Judging from many of the negative reviews, I am not sure, but how could I judge for myself anyway as it doesn’t even work on my device!!

I think Kayo has been around long enough to have sorted out the instability issues. I am running the latest IOS, browsers, and download speed of between 35-39Mb/sec and when it reverts to useless ad loaded Channel 7 keeps dropping out. WHY ??? Paying $25 per month, I EXPECT to get far better streaming than what I am presently getting. Developers PLEASE get this issue sorted out ASAP !!!!!
Well, here we are in 2023 and STILL can’t access it on my iPhone. I am sick of getting the SAME instructions every time I log my issue. They OBVIOUSLY DO NOT READ previous Emails you send as every correspondence I send I get the same script back. FORGET what script you are told to quote, IT DOES NOT WORK ! I have sent the error script at least FIVE TIMES. Get your tech people to look at it for godsake and reverse engineer the script instead of telling me continuously to do the same thing over and over. Your suggestions DO NOT WORK !!!! I gave up replying to Support messages as they give the same useless script from the manual. It is about time the support manual was rewritten. I would love to personally talk to someone in the know……

It lets me watch sport, but there’s plenty wrong.

The interface is a mess, but once you find what you are looking for, it usually works. Usually.
Except for when it blocks you for using a VPN when you are not using a VPN, and the only solution is to spend a few minutes refreshing before it figures out you aren’t using a VPN.
Except when you stop getting notifications on any of your devices, and support spend months copy pasting barely the same barely relevant reply’s instead of fixing it. It’s cool missing things I pay to watch because your service doesn’t function as advertised.
Except for when they don’t bother to include all the series/leagues in a given sport category under fixtures, so you get to waste even more time figuring out what’s on and where it is (pro tip for Kayo, you have more than three Motorsport series). Oh and it’s great when even if the series is listed under fixtures, the events still aren’t, cool!
For extra fun, the support managed to fill up their inbox, so now for several days I can’t reply to emails about issues I’ve been waiting months for them to fix! Terrific!
They are how ever really good at taking our money, I’ll give them that.
I guess this is what we get when there’s no competition.
Boo.

I am loving the Kayo app. I love that the video streaming loads quickly, the quality of the picture, and the availability of shows. I also love that there aren’t many ads. But the app could use a few improvements: 1. I often experience a glitch, where the stream jumps back a second or two and repeats what I’ve just watched. 2. When I pause a show and close the app, the show won’t resume at the point I left off. This should be fixed. 3. I’d like to be able to minimise the app, so it’s still playing while I open another app. For example if I’m watching a game (or a footy show) and I want to see where a team is on the ladder, or i want to see what matches are coming up, I’d like to be able to do this. It’s the way the channel 9 app works and also the ABC app. But that option is not available on the Kayo app.

App Keeps Freezing

The app keeps freezing and then jumping back 10 seconds every 5 minutes or so. I first noticed this a couple of months ago and I assumed it would get fixed pretty quickly. It has now gone on for too long and is simply annoying. This all is happening whilst you raise the price of your subscription service…. It doesn’t matter what device I am using or the sport I am watching the app just keeps freezing and rewinding. This should be your number one priority to fix. You charge everyone high rates to watch live sport but by the end of a game of footy I am 5 minutes behind the live timer because of how many rewinds they app has done. Also if you are on an iPhone and jump out of the app but then jump back into the app the app will freeze and then crash. This means you need to reload the app and find the sport you were just watching even though you jumped out of the app for 2 seconds to reply to a text. Your app has a lot of bugs and you need to fix it. Cheers
***Update *** since making this review this issue has been fixed.

The app is getting tired and it’s time for a major rethink of the UX. The menu systems are complex and slow to navigate. On Apple TV it doesn’t use the native player which makes it hard to navigate to certain times in a match/replay especially using the new Apple TV remote which isn’t compatible with this app. Using Apple Airplay seems to drop out constantly. It doesn’t use the AirPlay 2 protocol. Also can’t throw audio from Apple TV to Airplay speaker, like a Sonos, so limited to the TV audio. No 4K at all even though some sports are available. While it was groundbreaking when it launched, it feels like Foxtel treating customers like second class citizens deliberately so that they upgrade to a full Foxtel package. Compared to Stan Sport there’s a lot of room for improvement in performance, stability, UX, and features. Hopefully Stan Sport gaining some more sports rights from Fox Sports will get the slow executive team to give the capital to the app teams enhance the app.

This is primarily focused on the Apple TV app, which is a buggy piece of garbage and the problems have existed for ages now. Some of the problems it constantly faces -
Doesn’t load after sleep or coming back from another app. Goes into this weird frozen menu where nothing can be selected and requires a force quit.
Video playback skips back a few seconds. Every 60 secs it jumps back 5 seconds. Requires a force quit, sometimes two or three.
Pause and skipping forward doesn’t work. Pause and scroll like every other video app in the world. Not Kayo.
Sports that have started will still say starting soon. Maybe quit and try again.
Sometimes sports don’t even match their icon. Click on basketball, here is some ice hockey!
These aren’t so much bugs as just awful awful design decisions-
Menu in general is terrible. Try returning to the home menu, good luck. Easier to quit and start again. How about a home menu or something on the side, like every other streaming app in the world.
PIP, actually works, but getting there is the most painful experience you will ever face. You will definitely select the wrong thing or exit 3 or 4 times before getting what you want.
And the ads, why are we paying for an app that has so much advertising. It’s pathetic.
Just not good enough for the cost and the large company behind it.

I have subscribed for several years now and love the range of sports but Streamotion please fix the constant stopping and reloading on popular event. For example I am watch it’s Open now and constantly get freezing then the dreaded circling arrow with 28% in the middle before either taking forever to reload or crashing altogether. This also happens during love Formula 1 and other popular sports. Doesn’t matter what device I am using or whether it’s streaming on wifi or direct connection. Is not my connection speed as I can immediately watch something else on Kayo no issues but go back to the golf or F1 and the problem starts again. Come Kayo/Streamotion I have payed you a lot of money over the years and you need to update your bandwidth to accommodate the over one million subscribers that you now have. By the way I contacted my services provider and first question they asked was are you having a problem with Kayo or is it other streaming services. Nope just Kayo not the other six streaming services I subscribe to Just Kayo.

The AppleTV app had no fast forward function so I switched to the iPhone app to only have worse functionality again… it would keep disconnecting when I was pushing it to the tv and any time this happened, or if I ever paused it myself, it would go back right back to the start with no memory of where I was up to. You’ve then got no preview screen when you are scrolling forward to try and find your place again. After disconnecting and reconnecting for the umpteenth time, it no longer let me fast forward at all to get back to where I was… fully closed the app and tried reopening (multiple times now) but it just keeps freezing on the black opening screen showing just their sponsor logo and nothing else. Overall just a terrible experience with Kayo in general - I wouldn’t waste your time, sanity or money with them.

So I have suffered the clunkiness of the interface for over a year. The lack of resume, and when you do it can be +/- 5 minutes. And the Chromecast 2 streams that buffer when Supercars is live, but not when F1 is live, which tells me that Kayo’s bandwidth and/or event CDN is the issue (btw, Supercars replays do not buffer - I do notice the variability of the service, so stop telling folks to upgrade to Chromecast 3 - a lazy and cheap cop out).
Then learn that WRC and Indy, which I watch occasionally, have been lost to Stan.
Then I read of the price rise, in the newspaper, but not yet in email. Customer centric?
But the final ignominy is being forced to upgrade my old iPad to a version requiring a minimum of iOS 13.0, when my older device only can support 12.x. Right now I can no longer access content via this device.
So that’d be $800 for a new iPad, an increase in service price for less service for still quite poor streaming and user experience.
A serious question to the Developers: are you thinking really, really hard about the customers who ultimately pay your wages?
Key immediate remediations required:
1. Back support for iOS 12.x
2. Increase server bandwidth.
3. Start thinking much, much harder than you are right now.

Had my reservations when I signed up to Kayo a year ago but they’ve clearly worked hard to iron out the problems. $25 a month for everything I want to watch, super reliable and convenient, watch what you want when you want…well done Kayo team it’s a fantastic service. Visited the UK not long ago, frustrated that I’d paid for Sky Sports Now TV service only to find you have to wait 24 hrs to watch a full F1 race replay if you missed it like me…not so Kayo, join live or watch from any point in the race at any time or just catch up later. Seriously great app, yes would be good to leave and then resume from same point but hey it’s not difficult or time consuming to fast forward. Again the reviews almost need a reset, this service has clearly come a long way and delivers on a great service for sports loving fans. Well done Kayo!

The app itself is quite fiddly. The subdivision of so many sports on the home page makes it a bit tedious to find what you are looking for every single match. It is also disappointing that the app does not save the point at which you were watching when you close the app, and the only open to watch the same match is to ‘play from start’. I would suggest a feature that you could ‘follow’ a sport or a team so that those specific games and targeted content could be pinned to the home pages of those individuals. I only downloaded this app with the transfer of Suncorp netball services to the foxtel network. Previously I had the netball live app that was much more of a reasonable subscription that I could justify. Seeing as I am the only person in my family that follows sports, and only netball at that, $25 a month seems quite ridiculous. I would appreciate if there were a feature where a viewer could obtain a sport specific subscription at a cheaper price, and I think that would bring in more users. I am aware that there is Kayo Freebies, but it simply does not give the coverage I wish to acquire. Overall, the app is fiddly in terms of functioning and is unreasonable pricing for sports specific fans.

I’m rating the app, not Kayo which is a good service to replace being ripped off by Foxtel when all you want to watch is AFL.
If you get beyond stability and app crashing the Kayo app has some good features, but is let down by missing the most basic capabilities expected in a streaming app and a painful control system.
Namely no Resume / Continue Watching or Recently Watched list. “What?” I hear you say. No joke the features of a 1980s VCR are missing in a 2022 app! But don’t worry, Kayo announced it is coming soon on Twitter - 3 years ago.
Then the control system is just odd. Unlike the rest of the world, Kayo decided that pushing right on the controller whilst watching would NOT fast forward, no it brings up some information menu which if you press back a bit too late to hide it will exit the show you are watching. And yes; you guessed it, that miss hit means you have to start from the start of the show again and fast forward to where you were…. Great if you were 16 hours into the surf comp.
Suggest Kayo prioritises the features people use every single day that are entry level; rather than split screen, “key moments” and all the “cool stuff” used occasionally. I don’t dare even trying to access this cool stuff for fear of hitting the wrong thing, have it crash and having to go back and fast forward again.

The user interface is really bad. I click on sports and then it takes me back to the main menu it’s always glitching and not doing what I ask.
It always stops for no reason in the middle of a game and then refuses to play again. Doesn’t matter what wifi network I’m on or if I’m using cellular, it’s really frustrating! Takes me about an hour to watch ten minutes of a game because I’m always having to shut the app then reopen it try to find where I was just to find out that the time markers are inconsistent every time.
However I think it’s an amazing concept and really good having all the sport you want at your fingertips whenever you want it but some serious time needs to be put into working through these major issues or else I’ll be cancelling and stop recommending it to people..

Constant issues with the Kayo app on my Samsung TV. Media playback issues and Unknown video errors every other time I try to use. And when it does work, if I go into a sport that is already underway and choose “From Start”, the first footage I see is straight to the live action for a brief moment - nothing like seeing the score at the 80min mark before you start watching a game!
Have tried Kayo support but keep just getting given a list of troubleshooting steps that don’t work, then feed that back only to be sent another list of steps very similar to the previous. Just going round in circles with no resolution is very frustration, especially when they say “thankyou for bringing it to our attention” and “we won’t stop until this is resolved”. Try fixing or rebuilding your app. Don’t even bother responding and suggesting to contact help@kayo, I’m out. You’ve lost most of the sports I watch anyway.

Not much works properly when cast to the TV via Apple Play and mirrored. Couldn’t get it to go full screen and the watch live button disappeared. Half way through the game I stopped for two minutes whilst watching and the whole thing stopped and I had to go back to the beginning. When trying to fast forward on the TV there is no picture as I had to use the Apple remote. It went off again and then skipped the last 15 minutes of the game and came back with double commentary, the same thing twice but out of sync. The sound was breaking up at times too. This is rubbish and I’ll subscribe to BE IN Sports if I continue to watch the only thing on here I want, which is the Carabao Cup now my team is through to the quarters! I ended up watching the penalty shoot out via the KAYO website which at least had decent sound and only one lot of commentary!

DO NOT SIGN UP THROUGH APPLE!!!! You will subscribe through the App and start an Apple subscription and Kayo will then sign you up again (under the guise of checking ID) and you will end up getting charged twice and they will say it was a forgotten subscription and not refund you. I’m out of pocket $300 as of 6months a go. Kayo this is not a forgotten subscription this is a double charge in Error!! You should be ashamed! Department of Fair Trading is now being sought after 6 months of me trying to resolve this with you. Apple should not offer an app which is blatantly ripping off Apple customers. I understand your position on why you cannot refund me directly because you have already passed on the money to Kayo, but more should be done to stop other Apple customers getting out of pocket! When the developer review says to get in touch vi email... I have tried about three or four seperate occasions to contact support and after about a dozen emails I still get no where. How about your support team contacts me for a change, as I have tried via email to resolve a number of times and there is no phone number to talk to someone and explain the situation. I have just had my ticket closed on me without a response, after sending yet another email, I am a fool for thinking the dev review asked me to get back in touch would go anyway. It’s the most unintuitive app ever. All the developers need sacking and rehire some with brains! I’m not one to give bad reviews, but the Kayo app experience is bad. It’s missing so may intuitive systems it’s not funny. There is no resume to what was watched lasted. There is no intelligence to what you should see next (the next race or game in order). The list goes on.... 🤷🏼‍♂️ The footage is great when you find what you are looking for, but this has nothing to do with Kayo. I messaged Kayo about these issues and more and got no response (and I wasn’t as blunt as this review, because I feel bad writing this stuff). But people need to know it’s not worth the money unless you have no option to get Kayo to watch the sport you love. This will be my last month with them and I won’t return to see if there are any improvement for some time. There are many more options apart from Kayo. Pick up your game and customer service Kayo!!!

Having used Kayo since it was released, I’m really surprised and disappointed as to how slow any update has occurred. In 2021, it appears to be using very old/out-dated technology. Specific complaints:
1. No ability to pause/come back to where you were up to. This is standard on many video apps
2. Very poor customer service - particularly during downtime’s
3. The app frequently has issues where it is unable to load, particularly during important/large events (appreciate these events attracted larger online crowds, however surely an app/a company can predict this).
Given ownership up to Murdock, you’d think they’d have the funds to actually make this an app that they could be proud of. The lack of basics shows complete disrespect to customers. Unfortunately with the existing monopoly, there is little choice. Lift your game Kayo.

Clunky User Interface- lacks basic streaming features

I agree with all other reviews about the clunkiness of the user interface for this app.
It’s a constant battle to find the content that you are interested in, and even if you have found it you have to go through same process each time there’s a new event on.
There is no ‘resume’ of the sport you were just watching. If the app quits, it totally forgets what you were watching. You then have to find the event again, then hopefully remember the point you we’re up to.
Discovering what’s actually on is difficult, and even setting your favourite sport (eg: F1) barely helps.
While watching a sport , it can be hard to skip forward and back, and like others have said it can be hard to know if you are live or not.
When the other streaming services provide intuitive interfaces , it’s hard to understand why Kayo can’t simply copy that design.
Features it needs:
1) Resume an event for where I left off
2) remember which events I have already watched
3) For F1: if I have watched FP1 and today is FP2, make that my next option . Same goes for the other race events.
4) just group shows into sports and codes, and let me browse them in the same way that Netflix lets me browse shows by genres and episodes.
The Kayo service is good, albeit pricey. It wouldn’t be so bad if the UI was better - at least offer a premium service for the premium price tag.

Have you ever watched a reply for a game you wanted to see only for the reply to start 20 mins into the game? Or even better... the reply doesn’t show the last 10 mins of the game for no reason at all? No? Well get Kayo and you will get to experience it.
Seriously, if I decide to even open the app whilst I am casting to my TV, whatever I am streaming automatically restarts!!! Does Kayo do this to punish me for the thought crime of browsing for my next disappointing sport streaming experience?
I honestly feel like it is a p*ss take most of the time I use it. I’m sure there is some developer or programmer in Kayo or Foxtel or whatever muppet organisation wetting themselves that they earn money from this sh#t show.
Thanks Kayo, you ruined sport. I’ll never enjoy the WNBA, Greco Roman wrestling or t-ball the same way.
P.s when you take an ad break, tell me “we are” but then I realise I’m not invited.... the hurt is real

Love the app, just one wish...

I love the Kayo app - the quality of the sports when watching on a device or the TV is fantastic, I’m a huge fan of the service (especially the mini’s, which have been great to catch up on games that i wouldn’t necessarily have the time to watch).
My one wish for the app would be a resume function - if you’re watching something and get half way through and have to stop for some reason, or you’re transitioning from one device to the next, it would be amazing to be able to resume from where you were up to, rather than choosing only from Live or Start, and having to remember how far in you were.
Otherwise - highly recommend the app and service. Have been incredibly happy.

Terrible user interface

Some serious work needs to be done on the user interface. App is pretty much a dump of Foxtel materials without a proper user interface.
For example , if you watch a replay, in many occasions it will reset to the start without resuming from where it left off, imagine you watched a game for an hour then suddenly it goes back to the start and you have to fast forward it .
Finding materials are not intuitive either and almost there is no proper filtering, for example you can select to watch Serie A or La Liga but other contents still appear , in the mini matches you see a mix of for example a-league , league 1 etc. matches as well and its not even properly sorted, you see matches from week 1 in the middle of matches from week 25.
To sum it up, it has a lot of content with a poorly designed interface.

Poor app and even worst customer service

I tried to use a gift card so I opened up an old account on the iPad app. I couldn’t see a gift option so I thought if I proceeded the next window would give me the option . Instead i got an immediate charge through Apple. Read the help page and apparently you have to do it through the web browser. Tried that and still didn’t work.
Contacted the customer service and they were rude and unhelpful. They kept telling us to use a set of scripted instructions that didn’t apply and wasn’t relevant. They must of had an old process map.
We requested a refund because we didn’t mean to get charged by iPad app and wanted to use the $50 voucher but they insisted that there was no refunds no matter what.
Considering the gift card didn’t work we returned the gift card to Woolworths and Kayo lost out on a long term subscription for a one off $25 which they would’ve got back with the $50 gift card. They are cutting off the nose to spite the face.
Family bought it because they thought the rugby union was on here but its with Stan. So I’ll be glad to not to use their service ever again. No TV app, no PlayStation app, and limited function on iPad and iPhone.
They obviously did the online customer service thing because they knew people their crappy service would attract anger from their customers and they were hoping to limit that.

Faulty app!!!

Very difficult to navigate app and not user friendly in comparison to other apps like Foxtel and Netflix. I have received any emails even though the app says it has sent emails but nothing in my inbox or junk mail. Can’t reset password or change it because you have to follow the instructions of the email Kayo claims to have sent, but as mentioned this email has not actually been sent my account is now blocked due to to many failed attempts at password but can’t do anything without the email which allows you to reset it.... but the payment has been successful taken from my account, Kayo made sure that was taken care of. App does however have a lot of the sports you would like to watch but it is very slow and freezes most time during love games which is frustrating. Plenty of room for improvement but I will be stopping my subscription as there are to many faults with the app and communication via email from Kayo regarding blocked accounts and password changing is just a joke to have resolved.

A perfect solution for me

I used to have Foxtel, but financial difficulties meant that I couldn’t continue to pay over $100 per month to keep it, and I was paying for channels I no longer wanted, that repeated shows, and the repetition of unbearable ads was effecting my mood.
Kayo Sports has given me back the sport I wanted. I can watch them whenever I want, without having to remember to record them, and I’m very happy with the length of time they keep sporting events available.
Not sure why there are so many negative ratings and comments. I should state that I live in NSW, and have a reputable supplier, with good wifi speed.
The only two issues I have is that if you pause a show to go to the toilet, or quickly down the shops, it will often dump you out of the show. This is a manageable issue for the consumer.
Also, live broadcasts can be difficult to stream when I’m out. But that’s not down to Kayo Sports, is also an issue with other suppliers, and at home, I have not had a problem.
I only wish that they would create a reasonably priced app for movies. Then I would be completely satisfied.
Thanks Kayo Sports, my favourite sport is The English Premier League. But now I can get everything else I like on demand.
In our busy lives, this is exactly what we need.

Be warned - Unethical billing practises left me out of Pocket by $150

Be warned Kayo’s customer services team are shocking. The app’s billing approach and lack of transparency meant even though the app showed me as having a Kayo account that expired on the 30th November 2019, they have continued to bill me for 3 months afterwards. In addition they double charged me each month against the same single Kayo account from September to November last year too. I have only ever had one kayo account so how can they think this is acceptable business practises.
I appreciate mistakes happen and apps can have bugs in them, but that is where their customer services should be stepping in and addressing these slip ups. All I’ve had is responses that show they have no empathy for their customers and take no accountability for their billing mistakes. I am, still out of pocket $150 and my bank are now investigating. Welcome to kayo’s digital support world of “sorry we don’t provide a phone number to talk to anyone about this”

Terrible overseas service, appalling customer support

When overseas u are unable to use this service, however there is no advice given when u try to log in overseas. It simply says unable to log in and try again later. Which I did, again and again. Turns out after finally hearing back from their support team that it does not work overseas. I asked to cancel subscription as am overseas for some time - and it turned out I had just 1 day earlier been charged a new months subscription ($25) which they refused to refund despite the fact that I was (and still am) overseas so I had been completely unable to access account for weeks prior in order to cancel account and avoid the fee being charged.
Customer service was terrible, they made no attempt to understand my position, simply kept repeating that they do not do refunds in any circumstances. Rubbish systems and pathetic support. Clap clap Kayo - u lost a long time customer here.

I thought this would be a great way to cover sports without a Foxtel option. It could have been... but it isn’t. The app constantly crashes. I’m not talking once every couple of days, repeatedly in the same day. Despite uninstalling, reinstalling and rebooting both iPad and iPhone platforms. Just frustrated with it. It should be able to stream through Apple TV or Google ChromeCast well... and sometimes it’s serviceable. But I didn’t go with this option because it was sold to me as ‘working sometimes’. When I decided to subscribe to it, it was sold to me as being the best way to get US sorts without having to use Foxtel and it would stream to a TV like any other media I would use in a similar way. It isn’t. Even though a basic Foxtel package with sports is twice what I pay for this junk, at least I can stream Foxtel and I get access to the Watch ESPN service that connects me with more of the sports that I want. This could have been a great app. It ends up being a daily pain and a constant reminder that it doesn’t work.

Great app but lacking foundation features

Signed up last weekend to watch The Monza race and was very impressed with the viewing quality and the auto buffering depending on reception. However after having a few days to really look around there’s a few really basic things lacking. 1. Resume for where you left off 2. A general search bar? How is that not the first thing you put on an app? (I know the search option to get a sport but you can’t search specific things) 3. Having the different sports categories listed in the drop down side menu would be such a better layout than the current design.
Has the potential to be a great app and service but get some of those basics perfected. You’re essentially a Netflix for sports, so check out how amazing that app is and take some design ideas!

When casting to Chromecast or Apple TV to watch on our TV it’s buggy as hell, drops resolution almost constantly and freezes up despite our internet being very good (50mbps down > 25mbps up) and using the latest Telstra smart modem with a short line of a sight to the chromecast/Apple TV.
But after installing the app on Apple TV it’s run perfectly. Watching on iPhone / iPad it runs perfect and the app is actually really good. Must be a buggy version of the app having this casting problem. If this was fixed it would be an incredible app, please sort it out.
Requiring a Gen 3 Chromecast due to frame rate differences in the broadcast is a poor excuse from Kayo, lots of people have Gen2 Chromecasts (they are not very old, up to Sept 18) - Every other app that streams works perfectly on a Gen 2 Chromecast, fix it...

A good start

Streaming is in good quality, casting is easy and there is a high amount of content already available to watch from both domestic and international sports, both live and on demand.
There are a few quality of life updates that should be implemented, such as browsing whilst casting to Chromecast and easier access to live feeds instead of having to go and find them on the app. For one of the biggest features that the app has, it should have the tv guide available with its own dedicated page on the Home/Shows/Sports hotbar.
Anyone looking for the sports package on Foxtel but are not willing to commit to other programming on their service, Kayo is for you. If you're just looking for NRL/AFL only and aren't looking for any pre/post-match viewing, it's worth a shot as the Matty Johns show is treating best post game show out there by far.
