Recent experience.

The app used to be super easy to use.
Now I am constantly having log in issues.
Regular warnings that I need to update but no updates are available. The other issue I am experiencing is, it has recently cleared my profile on 2 separate occasions, which is
rather frustrating.

Will not allow me to use my current name!

If I could give no stars I would. I have created my id using my drivers licence in my current name but the app automatically selects my birth certificate name and then pushes that name to all the government services which I fought hard to get changed to my current name. This app is the only way I can access my ATO account since they locked it when my TFN was stolen (instead of issuing me a new TFN… wtf, if you believe it is so insecure it must be locked permanently then I have a right to a new one) so I am stuck using this appalling app that dictates which name I use despite using primary IF in my current name. I’ve tried desperately to contact help to resolve but months later I’ve had nothing.

Worst app i ever used

I never wrote a review but this app just does not work. It stops letting me get in after 2-3 times i used it, and i had to reset everything after i reinstalled app. And once you set it up you are stuck with it and cannot access any mygov services.

Absolute mess

I had no issue with uploading my documents but I can only get Standard Strength, due to not having a passport or a copy of my birth certificate, which means I cannot log into Centrelink Express app and judging by the reviews, I’m not the only one. If you don’t have a passport or your birth cert, you have to basically BUY access to the app by getting them.
**For those who don’t know, Standard ID (license and Medicare card) will get you logged into myGov. If you have linked your Centrelink (or ATO) account(s) to myGov, you can access them through the myGov app, under the “Services” tab. Centrelink functions just as the Express app does, but is slightly difficult to navigate. Hope this helps!**

Catch 22

I’ve tried everything to get this app to work. Whenever I open it, it says it needs an update. Whenever I click on the only option available (“Update”) it takes me back to the App Store. How much has this cost the taxpayer

Spent two hours one day putting all of my ID documents in Got an excellent rating go to use it. I have basic id and none of my documents are in there but you can use it over and over again. Design

I’ve been using this app for a while and the core features work well, but the interface is starting to feel outdated compared to the rest of the OS. It really needs to be updated with Liquid Glass support.
Right now, the app feels flat and disconnected from the system's modern aesthetic. Adopting Liquid Glass would add that necessary depth and translucency, making the experience much more immersive and visually consistent with other premium apps. Hoping to see this addressed in the next update!

An Update that Isn’t an Update

This is my only way into accessing ATO and other services, and now I’m caught in a loop of being told I must update the app, being redirected to App Store for the update, only to find myself only with the option to Open the app.
Also, the app has forgotten all my ID on another occasion, forcing my into the joy of re-adding everything to get myself to the required security strength.

This app is beyond useless, do not sign up to it if you have the choice. I have been unable to access my ATO services for years now as I have been trying to upgrade my security strength through this app to allow me to login with problem after problem that can’t be resolved.
Currently I am trying to verify my passport within the app but as soon as I get to the photo verification section it is stuck on 99.5% “submitting your photo” followed by a “something went wrong” error and logging me out. I have tried logging in and out multiple times, deleting the app and redownloading and nothing is working. Unsure how this government service can be so horrific when a large percentage of the population rely on it for basic services! Absolute joke! Sort it out!

Identity App hard for dummies

Identity apps are designed to ensure your login credentials are protected. I use this for business and personal and have no problems whatsoever linking to my government accounts. So glad this is available. First time users should watch the instruction video before making negative feedback about the app. Once you know how to use it you will regret your negative review.

Constantly re entering id’s

This app is either updating, after which requires me re enter all identity documents again, or randomly/ constantly requires me to re enter my identity docs to increase id strength again to access the required department. So when it comes time to use it, guess what, got to re enter my identity docs, passport etc, again, which are safely at home, not in my pocket all the time. incredibly frustrating given that this is the mandated access portal for everything governmental. not reliably useable at all.

Deleted my profile

I spent significant time creating the highest level identity strength. After the app updated my profile was erased along with my identity profile. I need to go through the hassle of creating another profile in order to use it to log in to myGov. This feels very amateurish and worries me that if the government can’t get this kind of basic stuff right, how can they ensure the security of my online data? Very concerning especially given the amount of state sponsored hacking that goes on.

Error in this version

Something is wrong with this version.
When I opened the app, it said I had to update it. So I did.
This app, version 3.10, thought my phone was new so I had to answer some questions. When I then tried to use it to log into business services, it wanted me to relink my ABN. And when I tried, it wouldn’t let me.
After back n forth with ATO tech help line, they said the app has created a ‘ghost’ profile on your new phone (not new), and this will only have Basic security strength instead of the Strong it is saying it has.
They told me I had to delete the app, reinstall, and load all my ID info again, and then wait for a while before trying to log in again, so things can reconfigure in the background – to get my Strong ID status again.
Customer service tech spoke to me in rude & condescending tone throughout.

The fact that this is a requirement and literally makes everything harder to do is making people not want to do the right thing.
It is supposed to make everything easier and yet a 10 minute job ends up being two to three hours if not taking the entire day because the helpline people make you out to be a simpleton who is clearly stupid when in fact the problem is the app and its glitches.

Worst app

If I could give this app and this system a 0 I would. Completely unable to log into MyGov using this myID app even though I’ve verified my identity myID to “strong”. Regardless, myGov doesn’t recognise that my identity has been verified to the appropriate security strength to access the ATO and other services. I haven’t been able to log into the ATO for more than a year. Unable to lodge a tax return, check my tax liabilities, nothing. Unsure if this is a joke from our government designed to infuriate the hard working Australians who pay more than their fair share of taxes for a system that won’t even allow them to monitor their taxes? Unbelievable. Australian government do better. Learn from the Scandinavians. I used to live in Denmark and everything was so centralised and so simple. None of this garbage.

Fails Face verification

I’m trying to strengthen my MyID Identity, yet when I scan my face it fails me I tried 3 times all failed. I didn’t what to risk any more fails, when I use face verification for other apps no issues at all.
Not to mention if someone had epilepsy and did a MyID Identification scan they might go into a seizure with the bright flashing lights and colours it really hurt my eyes and usually bright flashes don’t.
Just loving how I can’t even get into my gov and this was the only resort left yet apparently I’m not even my own person.

FIRE YOUR SYSTEM DESIGNER

Whoever design this system need to get fired. I already has a myGov acc but I still need to download this app to create another set of ID to access services? There are so many holes in your systems as well as the information from ATO acc not transferred to myGov. So when I try to link them they don’t match. How do you supposed to link or update your ATO if there is no record from the beginnin? What a waste of money on building excessive system and application just to make it more complicated.

Phantom updates

This hopeless app now requires an update before it can be used. But when I try to update it, it opens the existing version instead. There is no escape from the endless loop, because MyGov won’t work without authentication by MyID. MyID won’t work because it needs an update, but, oh yeah, there’s no update to get.
So we are back at Square 1, before the whole hopeless system was modified: meaning fixed when it didn’t need fixing.
Just think folks: there is a whole bureaucracy behind this ludicrous, frustrating and pointless exercise. It would be funny but it is really like the Great Wall of Porridge: you push against it but all you do is disappear into an amorphous sticky mess. And don’t bother calling: no one has any clue how to fix this.
Maybe I will wait to see if it is fixed sometime: but of course that is all that is possible because there is no escape from the endless loop of instructions to update the app. Which incidentally is the latest version according to the app itself!

Can’t believe this app is being mandated to everyone to be able to access such essential national services such as ATO and Centrelink. Both requires highest security level which only AU citizens can acquire, does this mean the countless tax payers currently on visa are not eligible to use those services any longer? The way this app works with other websites is not very straightforward and no one clearly seems able to give me the instructions to fix many problems i encountered in linking centrelink & ato to MyGov. Poorly designed policy. If it’s secure, i reckon it’s only because no one understands how things work, hence no one uses - then at least, it’s secure. Please roll back and re-launch later after sufficient testing & pilot with Aussie citizens. It’s very immature to launch for EVERYONE who needs to access the essential services. It’s never inclusive not accessible.

Frustrating Waste of Time

Every time I use this app for my business I have to update it by deleting it and reinstalling it on my phone and add in all my identity documents again!! After spending hours on the phone trying to correct this problem it is still doing the same thing! Totally frustrating and an intruder to my privacy! Always down, never connected and NEVER WORKS

Whoever invented this needs to be “taken care of” because it is BEYOND USELESS, like everything else relating to the Australian Government. The Australian Government has to always make everything that should be straightforward and easy become completely frustrating and complex in order to substantiate themselves. Maybe stop getting your diversity hires to make it so difficult for those of us who are actually looking for work to be able to access it so that we can actually get the jobs that we apply for rather than the diversity hires that clearly do not want to be there and always sound unprofessional, rude, half asleep and barely speak English. Stop performing maintenance when people need to access the sites, how painful can you get?

Problems if you’re trans

So like all things Aussie government this is very unreliable. On top of that if you’re transgender it’s highly likely you won’t be able to verify your photo because the app can’t match your face.
I’m a trans guy and unfortunately my passport pic was taken pre transition. I now have a beard and HRT slightly altered my face so of course my current face is apparently ‘not my face’
Thanks Australia for adding yet another difficulty to being a trans guy in this country.

Honestly not surprising, they change the app it then logs me out and now I can’t log back in. due to some moron who obviously got a diploma and decided to change what wasn’t broken. Not surprising really considering the Australian government screws everything up worse than it already is, if you don’t believe me, try being under DVA where now because of them changing legislation, I have to wait months, for organizations like AVHS to update there data base due to an idiot desk jockey. I am tired of idiots with degrees thinking they know better. None of you morons in government know how the real world works. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Time wasting rubbish app

I hate this app with passion. You muppets have now required business folk to use this to login to business online services- we have no time to mess around with this rubbish! Everything is wiped when the app is removed & despite pouring HOURS into painstakingly wretched verification process (many of which dont work with no feedback as to why) none of it holds. Your verifications get wiped if you need to reinstall the app. Your bill for wasting my precious time is in the mail

The Useless App on Earth

Needs All month to just upload your documents after 1 month ask you to upload your Passport and citizenship again and again each time upload in 5/6 different places plus you can’t even upload them, the website doesn’t work most of the time you can’t even log in, the world going through to brightness and Australia 🇦🇺 backwards to the dark time is gold when you lost it can’t get it back, that’s fine for the first time if you ask to upload your documents 5/6 times in 5/6 different places but after is waste of time and better to improve the app and improve the questions

Unusable-Not fit for purpose

Impossible. I have wasted 4 days fading around trying to oblige the requirements to access my own ATO account. Ended up having to pay my accountant to update my details.
Can’t be used for more than 1 user on the same device-despite the claims. It would seem impossible to get the required access level to perform basic admin on my own accounts. Insists I reset account every single time. I give up. Very poorly designed user interface.
Punish & obstruct the end user, seems to be the main purpose. I will now have to waste an entire day & half a tank of petrol to travel in person to the closest $*#&@office, take a ticket wait for god knows how long in a crowded, understaffed waiting room of the damned.

Must be one of the worst apps ever

Putting aside that the Australian Government forces people to own a smartphone or tablet – whether they can afford it or not – just to access some government sites, this app is a shocker.
So, now the app on my iPhone 12 Pro says it needs to be updated and won’t allow any actions unless you try to update. BUT, the App Store only shows the “Open” option … NO “Update” option.
If the iphone were my only device, I’d not be able to complete important tax reports online.
Setting the app up on a second device, if you’re lucky enough to be able to afford one, means going through all the security checks again, wasting more of the “customer’s” time.
This app, and the government’s forcing people to use a ‘smart’ device rather than just have login via a browser on your computer is a serious impost on people’s time and money.
Even worse that the app has to be one of the worst bits of programming ever.
It’s a disgrace.

Oh, please take the opportunity to use this useless app, which trashes your identity, cannot be updated, denies that you exist and is bulletproof proof against complaints. And of course, you can’t complain, because the phone in system either keeps you on line without answering or gives you lies and deceptions about what is happening, advice about how to do nothing effective to fix it, or complains that you shouldn’t be so unhappy. I have had the same email and password for years, no problems until some bureaucrat (who no doubt gets a regular salary) decided that a system that works should be changed to one that doesn’t. If it was funny you could laugh, but if you’re desperate, that’s just too bad. And don’t try to delete the app and start again, because it recognises you and blocks you out. Machiavellian.

App Doesn’t Work

I signed up last year and it was working. Last week I needed to access a government service, when I clicked on the app, it said that the app needs updating. I clicked on update, then open, and the app just took me back to the link saying it needs updating. I called myid last week. The first person I spoke to said ‘this is a known issue with some iPhones. We are unable to fix it.’ I have a current model iphone which works well on all other apps. I called again. The person on the phone had me on the phone for 38 mins. We tried a few things that did not work. He then ‘escalated the case’. I was told I would receive a callback by Monday. Today is Wednesday. I need to access this service. I am an Australian citizen who pays taxes for apps like this that don’t work. Not good enough.

How to Sign in to myGov (Formerly suffered user Review)

1. Download your myID app (this works as an authentication app for myGoV)
Make sure “MyID identity strength” is Strong by uploading your PASSPORT and DRIVERS LICENCE and your FACE ID (by using in-app-camera). Now you are ready to use it for myGov.
2. Download myGov app
Register, by entering your email and creating a password. That’s where it gets complicated, you’ll need to follow the steps down below;
Choose Sign in with “Digital ID”, click “Select myID”, enter your registered email address, this will generate a 4 digit number,
3. Open MyID app, a box will appear, enter that 4 digit number, then go back to your MyGov app, sign in page will appear, enter your email and password and you are signed in.

Why has my ID strength changed?

When I logged in to myID recently, my ID strength had changed from “Strong” to “Basic”. I am puzzled as to why it changed: the last time I checked, I am still the same person I was a few months ago.
I was able to get my ID strength to “Standard” OK. To get to “Strong” I need a passport that is no more than 3 years expired. Why should I go to the trouble and expense of getting a new passport (which I might never need to use as a passport) to get my ID strength to “Strong”?
There really needs to be a way to get to “Strong” ID strength that does not need a passport. This is particularly the case because just a few months ago my ID strength was “Strong”.

Loving the government!

I love our socialist government, I wish they would accelerate further towards the surveillance dystopia that is so good for us. I think it’s great that they start these initiatives with company owners that get little public sympathy, then slam it out to the public. If I could ask for one feature, I would like it to keep the camera on while I have the app open so the government can watch me.🤞

Nice ID apps ! 👍

It just took me 15 minutes, from install Apps to setup and enter my personal details. No idea why so many negative comments but for me it was so simply and easy to setup !
Only link MyGov to MyID was bit confusing, received the four digits pin, then what it means “ come back again “ ? Logout and login back to MyGov apps or what ? ? Need help.
PLEASE make it easy to link up together with just one question at the end of setup “ Would you like to link MyID to MyGov ? “ If press Yes then automatically link up together.
Question : Now I have this myID, So Do I need to install Ssrvice Victoria ?

The rage I feel !!!

If you are going to force us to use this app to run our businesses then at LEAST make it usable ….. I have again been told the app needs to update but again has no update functionality so you have to delete it and enter all your personal details again. I am so happy about providing all my personal details again given the governments track record of keeping these details secure. The app is a joke the team who have created the app are a joke the whole thing is mind boggling - tax payers money out to good use again !!!!!!

Difficult to use

I set up my account. Went back a few days later snd message stated I needed to update the ap,bwhuch I tried to do. Just kept going in circles from my ID to the ap store. Rang customer service who advised me to delete the ap and fill in all my details again. Did this and looked fine. Went to go back in a few hours later and the same message stating I needed to update the ap. I can’t update it anywhere! Keeps circling around again.

Terrible App, Terrible Backend

The app makes you set up your account all over again if you are logged out. Why bother forcing you to set an account password is a mystery.
The system also somehow managed to flip my first and last names, so NONE of my ID documents will verify.
To change your name in the app, you have to verify back to the same identity strength as previously held. So I have to verify my identity to correct their glitch (impossible). Called the support line, their solution is to delete all traces of the account so I can start from scratch. They can see my name, I could answer all their verification questions, but they can’t just fix the problem then and there.
Sure, take 14 calendar days to delete the account, not like businesses have deadlines for tax obligations or anything.

App update required yet no way to update

Everytime! Click on the update button & it takes you to App Store & just has option to open. To use it to log into MyGov or ATO online business service, the only option is to delete & reinstall, which means I have to go through the document validation process again! This is every time I try to use it! It’s getting very frustrating.
Can’t the IT people get their act together to fix this useless app???

As a software developer, I’d like to express my disgust with Centrelink and the contractor behind this app.
My thoughts, based on public sector experience, are as follows:
The contractor (developing this app) is aware that Centrelink (unlike the contractor’s other, corporate clients) doesn’t risk loosing dissatisfied users to a competitor, because there’s no-one offering an alternative to Centrelink’s services. As such, they put marginal effort into satisfying users (making this app functional or easy to use).
Centrelink is likely satisfied with this state of affairs, because the more accessible the app is, the more money they have to shell out in support payments.
The reason Centrelink uses a contracted agency for this is because Government employees (public servants) are expected to adhere to certain ethical standards.
So, by picking a shady contractor and just “handing over the money”, they have plausible deniability.
Thanks to privatisation, this is a pattern I have seen repeated across the entire public sector.

What’s the point

As a kiwi living in Aus, this app and system is just a big waste of time. The only way I can achieve a strong identity profile with myID is if I have an Australian passport. Why is that the only other option? When I’ve verified my NZ passport. Doesn’t make sense, I also feel for other foreigners trying to link services. And also just any Aussie who doesn’t have a passport yet. This forces you to call the helpline, which a billion other people are using at the same time. To avoid that you’d think they’d make the online process easier but no.

Unable to use as Update is Available but an Update is not available

I have attempted to use this app and when opening it I am advised that an update is available and must be installed. After clicking the Update button I am taken back to the App Store where no update is available. I am therefore unable to use this app.
Update: rang the myID Customer Service and the friendly person who took my call advised me to close the app, disable WiFi and open the app again using mobile data and this worked. Hopefully this will help others who experience the same problem.

Nightmare

This app asked for an upgrade after about 2 weeks of not working.
Could not phone support over Christmas shutdown. I got through today and was told to delete the old frozen app and reinstall it from scratch with new identity documents.
Oh, and to Callback on Monday because they were going home during my call. I will also almost certainly have problems. I need to call them back on Monday.
I can’t understand why I have secure banking and no problems Every once or twice a year I go through hours of pain, grief and calls just so I can lodge my BAS.
This is the worst piece of software written by the largest government department in Australia and it’s a total mess. No accountability or responsibility taken by anyone.

Waste of my time

Have not been able to log in to this app for months.. as a business owner this is not good enough.
I am fined if I don’t pay my BAS on time but can’t log in even though I try. The time I have wasted to no avail will never be repaid.. Required to update and get stuck in a ridiculous loop even though on the latest version. Clearly I’m not the only one experiencing this. Good to see our tax money is wasted on pathetic waste of time that rarely works. Can’t speak to a human to resolve the issue either. I don’t have time for this!

Enhanced Security - A great Feature

I did stumble with the new app and after several try’s kept getting a very cryptic error message. I went on the myID website and discovered that the error message alluded to the inability to log in on a wifi network - log in was possible only on mobile data.
Anyway, I reinstalled myID with no fuss at all and I am really happy with this new security feature.

Awful, and right before Christmas?!!!

Awful app. Is basically pointless, but myGov is absolutely no longer. And because only 2/ 3 merits of identity wont give you enough approval to link the centrelink app, you are left unable to enter the centrelink link., spent 2 entire hours trying to add birth certificate reg number to which no matter what instructions said, my details were denied.. like seriously MyID/myGov you set this up so you don’t have a bombarded number of people visiting each day, but with small errors like this on the app.. right before Christmas?? What are you guys doing? Really awful. I had to call up to my fortnightly report earnings, was in tears dreading the inability to access this option on the app all because my birth certificate would not register. Dreadful. Poorly designed to create anxiety amongst users. And no choice but to use only the app.

Great that there is an official app that we can use to verify our identity online.
What doesn’t make sense is that if the information provided is verified by the government, why on earth can’t this be used as a legitimate form of ID in real life? For all the people who don’t have a drivers license, this would be a great way to verify age - and at a national level at that!

What a terrible app

1. Forgot my password once and had to re-create my account from scratch. No forgotten password link in sight 🤷‍♂️. 2. Have gotten two text messages about someone accessing my account and to change my password (which I did). However I did notice that I have two-factor authentication switched on, so uhhhm, how is someone able to log in to my account even if they had my password? 🤦‍♂️ On the plus side it does actually work as long as you make sure you remember your password or write it down somewhere I guess. Can’t say I’ve got high confidence in data privacy given point #2 above.

Just a waste of taxpayer money

Why can’t these mugs do anything properly? After years of issues with the old system (which I eventually managed to use), they update it to a new, equally useless system….now my face isn’t recognised as my face, and apparently doesn’t match my passport. Also, I can’t access my company info to pay my BAS, as it says I haven’t registered my ABN number (which I have, I’ve been training for years), and when I try to link it by clicking the button, I’m told I don’t have permission……ridiculous

Identity strength has reverted back to basic.

I had previously (in 2022) provided comprehensive identity information under the old MyGov Id App allowing full access to all services. Since upgrading to this new app, my identity strength has defaulted back to basic meaning I cannot access key government services. Now not only do I have to waste my time going through the cumbersome process of reproving my identity but I now have to incur unnecessary expense renewing my passport as it has expired ( Expiry has now exceeded the 3 year grace period). I will have to give this app a miss.

Typical new app but doesn’t work!

I went to do my BAS last week but it asked me to update the app, no problem but even after it has been updated to the new app it won’t open keeps telling me to download new app, I click it again and it just goes around in circles and tells me there is a new app to download! I tried calling the ATO to speak to a real human, surprise surprise they are experiencing a high volume of calls and can not assist at this time. Well I can not give them money at this time if their own system doesn’t work!

What a joke

This app is useless. I cannot open my mygov account unless I go through this app which put me through the ringer. It kept coming up with error messages while I tried to verify my ID.
Finally got through to myGov and once I logged out and tried to get back in, myID now comes up with an error to say that my app needs to be updated. I have updated the app but still cannot open it to get into myGov. Super frustrating and a ridiculous way to make people use this so called improved system.

What a frustrating and ridiculous ‘improvement’ this is. As soon as I enter my passport details I get an error message saying this document has already been verified and I am back to square one, meaning I have to remove the app from my device and start again. I have had the same personal email address for over 20 years so this makes zero sense. I have also been doing my taxes through myGov for years without issue. The last version was super easy to use! Typical government, wasting money and effort ‘fixing’ something that isn’t broken.
I rang the 1300 number for help. Totally useless.
I am required to use this stupid app to revalidate my security clearance so it is essentially affecting my ability to work. Someone should be sacked over this debacle.
Funnily enough the nicknames ‘unimpressed’ and ‘not amused’ are already taken hahaha what a joke
