I’ve been using EWA for the past year, reading along with English books and materials every day to improve my pronunciation and study English. I tried many other apps but gave up because they lacked content or had expensive subscriptions. EWA has a wide range of topics and a natural voice, and it has become part of my daily routine. I like being able to learn while reading a book, but it would help me more if the reading voice used more a expressive tone. I understand the speed needs to slow - which it is - and the voice clear, but even so the a more expressive voice would help me get the meaning better. Also, could the letters in the quiz be bigger, please? All my phone settings already are on largest text and I still find the quiz letters far too small. Or could you have a setting to change text size within the quizzes? Thanks!

I am seriously questioning this app. I have paid for it and all I get every time I try to open it is “you are currently off line” funny how all my other apps work. It is an app that deliberately lures people into trying it and then unfairly charges them. When asking for a refund, it gets denied, and all responsibility is pushed aside — on top of that, the service itself is far from satisfactory. Renewing a subscription without consent shows bad faith toward users, and there has been no accountability whatsoever.

After they make you pay a bunch for just a month of use, this app only allows you to read 10 minutes then asks you to recharge the “energy” to be able to read or do anything else. Interesting and speedy !!!

I love how I can go as fast as I want to read through a range of texts in both languages at once. This app is the best way I have found to learn another language by reading books that I find interesting (with audio & visual translations) so I can choose the level and content that suits my mood at the time.

Unauthorized Subscription Renewal

I am extremely disappointed with the way your subscription renewal process works. Last year, you renewed my subscription without my consent. I contacted your support team, and my membership was canceled, and the fee was refunded.

However, this year, you have once again renewed my subscription without my authorization and charged me. When I reached out to your support team, I was told that the renewal fee is non-refundable this time.

How can you automatically renew a membership for someone who canceled their subscription a year ago? This is unacceptable and feels like a dishonest business practice. I demand an immediate refund.

Great for Learning French

I found that picking the Oxford books is best as they are read by real people, and this makes language learning so much easier. Some of the classics are read by AI and it’s just not the same. But it’s an excellent resource for learning language and for large input. If you need to see the words, hear the words and be able to quickly look up a word with one click as you’re learning than EWA is perfect.

Can I speak with a real person?….

The AI who “spoke” with me to set up my account would only let me select English to learn. I am a native English speaker who was hoping to read the classics in German. That option was not given to me by the AI who insisted the only language they had available to learn was English. If I had have been able to talk to an actual person, I’m certain my account would have been set up properly.

Refreshing and fun way to learn languages.

I’ve tried various other apps and although the price is more than most, the content is great. It’s probably best for those learning English rather than having dubbed videos learning Spanish, but I still enjoy the clips because they help to associate context. The books are also great. Well done to the devs, you have a new subscriber.

Not great for Spanish; way too expensive

The app is not great for learning Spanish; it’s a bit underdeveloped and I don’t think it’s worth the cost. The dictionary is incomplete, the search function doesn’t work, and the Spanish library is limited.

A large number of words are not defined, which interrupts the reading experience and almost makes the app redundant by making it necessary to Google words (13 difficult words in one paragraph were not defined).

The dictionary also does not seem to pick up expressions. For example, ‘hace algunos meses’ means ‘some months ago’, but ‘hace’ is translated separately as the verb ‘hacer’, which means ‘to do / make’. This would be quite confusing for someone just starting out learning Spanish, who may not know the expression and thinks the sentence means ‘he makes/does some months’.

Finally, most of the books were originally written in English and translated to Spanish. This isn’t really ideal because you miss out on unique native expressions and words specific to Spanish speaking cultures and histories. I was looking for support reading Spanish language originals, not books I could read in English. It’s also not possible to search for books originally written in Spanish: you have to scroll through the whole list of books and look for the ones marked as “original”. Actually, the search function doesn’t work at all. I tried searching for a book I knew was available and the results said “nothing here.”

For the significant cost of the app, I would expect a dictionary that is far more complete and sophisticated, a larger range of significant Spanish language books (eg Allende), and a better search function.

I love this App because there i can do translate immediately just click on the words which is i don’t know. That’s very helpful.

But one thing i need to comment that There is a lots of easy words that the app provide for translating ( ex: he,she, in, but,out, eles) which is we not need. but for a lot of difficult words are not get provide the translator. If the App can improve this then it will be more helpful. Thank you.

A good concept but...

It’s a good concept with a few flaws. Firstly, the “courses” are just lists of words based on categories. I wouldn’t really call that a course. Also I don’t really see the point of have short dubbed video clips saying the word or phrase you want to learn. Totally pointless. I like the book and article reading with the translation and being able to sort from easy to hard. I think the app is a little expensive for what it is.
