A Little Disappointed

I have two Bluetooth RGB controllers. I have this app expecting it to control both independently, as implied. Unfortunately it doesn’t. Not quite. Each interferes with the other and trying to get them operating independently is convoluted. I now have the app on two devices which gives me total control. Having said that, the lights are excellent as are the controllers. Support were very good but they do recognise the problem. I suggest a redesign of the app software may be in order.

Absolute garbage

There are many terrible home automation apps out there, but this is easily one of the worst.

Completely unintuitive user interface, ugly as hell, and about half of the time doesn’t work as intended.

Unfortunately this app is the only one of the at least 3 Holman apps on the App Store that seems to be supporting the two smart valves I own.

So bad that I’m considering writing off the $100 for the valves and choosing a different (non-Holman) product.

I’m fairly happy with this system, the app and Bluetooth work well for me. I do hope they update the app to allow more FX options like a really slow fade between colors of 5 minutes or so.

RGB garden lights

Hi Team, love the RGB lighting set up and really quick and easy to install.

If considering future updates I would love the ability to set an FX of random colour that slow fades from colour to colour rather then jumps to a new colour as the current version does. Also the ability to slow the transition further would be amazing.

Works and then doesn’t work - very buggy

We just bought the Bluetooth warm white lighting system. We installed the app and it worked on my partners phone, but when I did the same (same iPhone, same iOS version), it kept giving me an error (triangle “no device found”). No change despite uninstalling the app and reinstalling. Shame, the lighting hardware works but the software does not. Just buy the manual version of this kit - their Bluetooth kit is buggy.

What’s happened to this app

Hi all,

In great need of an update or some feedback on what’s happening here.

My Irrigation BTX1A tap timers no longer function as normal.

Yes they have new batteries and the tap is turn on. The thing is they still can be identified by the app but the settings won’t activate.

Has Holman created another app?

Some suggestions

Shouldn’t have to select 2018 each time for the app for the lights I have — should select it once and it knows.

Reliability is good. Never have connectivity issues, even from a distance :)

Really need to make “fx” options stand out way more in the app. Owned these lights for 6 months and only found this option today.

4 seconds for change of colour as a max time is way, way too short. Need something like random colour each day, or random colour cross fade over half an hour. Aside from random colour, all of the other options are useless. Cross fade? Cross fade to what? Black and then the selected colour again? What’s the difference between that and fade in and zero? At least give the option to cross fade two colours? The interface shows two colour dots above each slider — what’s the other one for? Let us use it. Let us select two colours. Minimum.

Second controller - same issue - convinced it’s the app

I have a BTX6 and 8 - both have the same issue now. I get an error saying “warning - manual watering cannot start due to low battery”.

Problem is both units completely disabled and I can’t do anything.

Works perfectly!

I purchased the BTX1B Bluetooth water timer despite all the bad reviews and from my experience it was a breeze to set up, working perfectly from the first go.

My only suggestion to make it better is for the “Interval” setting to show what date the next water cycle is due to come on. I have it set for every 3 days and I’m never really sure when it will come on next.

Otherwise I can’t fault this, and the price is miles cheaper than competitor’s similar products.

Doesnt work

Bought the light controller, connected to it via blue tooth, programmed the on/off times and ......

Lights are on 100% of the time, has ignored my selected scene ON/OFF times completely. Lights stay on no matter what.

Only way to turn the lights of is to select Scene OFF or unplug the controller, what a waste of time.

Have returned the controller to Bunnings for a complete refund, will have to work out a different solution.

Worst app ever

Without doubt the most useless app ever. Bluetooth? Doesn’t work. Setting zones? Doesn’t work. Setting auto watering? Doesn’t work. Will the fitting break your tap? Yes they will.

Utterly, utterly useless. If I could give them minus points I would. I am never, ever, buying anything from Holman ever again.

Terrible!

Have the RGB lights, white lights & 3 tap timers. I should have learned with the lights!

The lights I have use the 2017 version within the app - click on it & the app closes. My RGB lights are useless but the white lights are working by putting them on a timer.

I have given up on the tap timers, absolute rubbish. Work for about a week then will not start. Can hear the click if I use the manual button part of the app but one turn on as programmed.

Would not recommend these products!

The app had an update which I did. Know the controller won’t pick the Bluetooth. Look like the $450 we spent on the lights and cables was I waste of money. Can the developers please help

Firmware update bricked my controller, the good news a new controller was sent out no questions asked via overnight freight. Support from the team in Australia is great, but the app is horrendous please find a new app developer.

Not a bad app but could do with some tweaks.

I purchased a btx8 to replace my old unit that failed in a lightning strike. It was easy to set up with the app and works fine. My only complaint is that I am unable to change the zone names. As I get older I find that remembering which zone ( ie 1,2,3 etc) does which area gets harder. Perhaps in the next update you could include the option to change the zone name, eg from 1 to Veges or Grapes etc. many thanks Mark

After reading over reviews I expected the setup to be difficult. Easy to pair but I would like more instructions on programming the scenes and the effects. Can I display one colour for an hour, then another?

This is the most pathetic excuse for a blue tooth controlled device I have ever come across. I purchased 3 and have returned 2 of them. The battery low indicator on the app has indicated low battery so I have spent $21.00 on new 9v Duracell batteries. They all indicate low battery and the batteries test 100%.

Easy setup and control, can be even better

The Bluetooth configuration and initial setup was straight forward and without any issues. Faster than old manual method and less moving parts so should last longer. As noted previously, the app could be significantly improved by allowing for the manual running of a complete program. At present, it’s only auto program at set time, or manual one station at a time. Need to be able to run a whole sequence with a manual start time.

Error 203

I recently went out and spent $300 on a Holman Bluetooth garden light set up from Bunnings. Today I had it installed by my electrician.

After I installed the iGardener app on my phone, it asked to install a firmware update. I accepted. I was seated just next to the Holman Bluetooth box. Initially the app said it was updating the lights. Then it stopped and cited error 203. There is no manual to work out what error 203 is. I tried half a dozen more times. I am very dissappointed and hope this is sorted out quickly

MyLights - Fx need work and timer breaks

Currently no option to fade between different colours gradually (not sharply like it does now) over a long period of time whilst holding the same light intensity. Even the basic Chinese LED ropes with IR remotes can do this.

E.g. the colour should slowly shift so every half hour or so it will be a different colour. It should very slowly blend between colours rather than a noticeable immediate change like snapping between red and blue.

Just found this limitation. Very annoying. For the price of the controller this isn’t a great “smart” device.

Went into the app a couple times last night to change colours to set the mood. Wake up next morning and find out the lights have been running an extra 10hours longer than the should have and had to be turned off manually!

“Notes Regarding the Timer

If you access the app while a timer is operating then you will override and take control of the lights and the timer will be automatically stopped and not function again until the next day it scheduled to start.”

Was hoping the new software release would fix a minor limitation when I saw it addressed a fader intensity issue - unfortunately not. FX max time limit is still 4 seconds. As to why people would want a disco party in their gardens I don’t know! Colour fading should occur slowly over long periods like 5mins through to an hour.

I didn’t look at the reviews before I bought the starter kit. When I opened the app I saw all the bad reviews and thought I may have made a mistake buying the product. I’m no wizz with IT but this was so easy to setup and is really functional. Well done Holman! Cheers Steve

Why limit control to 1 device

I bought & installed the CLBW60 controller & 2 sets of lights for my back and front stairs. I’m incredibly disappointed that I can neither control each string of lights separately nor control them with more than 1 device. This means that when I go away for work, I either have to delete the app from my phone, leave the lights on 24/7 or my partner has to climb the stairs in the dark. I’ve checked the manual and the packing & this is not mentioned anywhere. Time & money wasted. I’ll never buy another Holman product. You’re a disgrace!

No sharing capability

We recently brought the light package with the intention of my partner & myself both being able to use the app individually due to us both doing shift work & coming & going at different times of the night & early hours of the morning. Imagine our disappointment after install to discover that this product will only Bluetooth to one phone. How ridiculous. Despite the fact that at the bottom of the app info it says it has ‘family sharing’. Well where is it? This issue needs to be addressed. We never would have brought this product if we knew this would be the case.

I’ve had trouble with this app from day one. It constantly fails. Bluetooth drops out daily. It’s hard to believe that you continue to promote (and sell) this rubbish. My one star rating is generous.

Great controller. Works well.

I have set up 7 zones out of 8 on my BTX8 controller and they all work great with easy setup. Very happy with it so far and had no glitches as stated in other reviews. The only negative I find is now I have 7 zones it would be nice to be able to name each zone so I can remember what they are for.

They worked fine initially we then changed the times and waited the 24hours started ok but didn’t turn off all night, tried to reset but the same thing is happening, so took the app off turned off the main power and put them on again, now it won’t recognise them as being there? Holman deck lights. Poor app

App is unreliable. Either wouldn’t turn on at all or turned off erratically. Several calls to Holman who were helpful but the app still failed at a crucial event. Very disappointed.

Thought I would be able to set a time for the lights to turn on and off . Nope, all the app really does is turn the lights on and off.

Has some gimmicks like flashing lights and fade in and out?? I can’t imagine many people finding this useful.

Works well but could do with a little refinement

Purchased a btx-8 to replace an ancient controller.

Super easy setup and instant paring with my iPhone 7.

I was able to program all stations without reading the manual, it’s that easy to use.

Note as per the manual it will only pair with ONE device as a security measure.

My only gripes are

1) you can’t just click a button to manually run the “program” as each station effectively operates as its own program. So if you want to run the whole sequence of stations you must run each station on manual in sequence yourself manually. This is just plain dumb. Obviously programmed by people who’ve never actually had a retic system before. This really needs sorting out.

2) if you want to change the run time for the manual station setting you must actually run the station for the whole time in order to update the controller. For example to set say station 1 to run for 15 mins on manual you must actually run the station for 15 minutes before you can update the controllers without the new run time. Very annoying but fortunately only needs doing once.

Disappointing

Despite being a Bluetooth device application, this app does not run without a connection to the internet.

Holman, why is a internet connection required?

When a change is made to a setting, say duration, within the ON period in a programme, the cycles are halted until the next ON period.

For example, a programme is set to turn on watering for 5 minutes every hour between 4 pm and 10 pm daily. If due to unexpected weather conditions, the duration is reduced to 3 minutes at 4:30 pm, all remaining cycles between 5pm and 10pm will fail to run for that day. It will be more sensible for the device to realize that the time is still between 4pm and 10pm and it has to water for 3 minutes until 10 pm inclusive.

Timer not working

The reason for buying the Bluetooth Lighting Controller was for the dimming and the timer functions. Dimming works well, but the timer is a disaster. It just does not switch or off. For the substantial premium you pay for a 60W transformer, the product does not meet its own specification and cannot operate without the app. Absolute disappointment with faulty product or faulty design

This product is horrendous. Not a day goes by when the valve randomly turns on and runs constantly until it turns off. Avoid this product.
