No pdf 8(

I want to love your M3 app even the SxS (or whatever it is called) I really do but I just cant get past the essential things that are missing... like pdf support or password/drm epub.
The thing is, I’m just not that into drm free reading, I’m into reading full stop. If there is a book I want to read, I want my reader to let me read it. Be it epub drm epub, pdf or whatever. Seriously, I just want to read and dont mind paying the author, I really dont, writing a great book takes years of practice.... I also dont want to find a great book and my chosen reader app baulks at it so now I have to find another app that reads that and have my books splattered all over the place. No thanks. Get back to me when you’ve figured out pdf and all

No longer supported?

I wrote to the developer about a month back and haven’t had a reply. I think this app is dead which is a great shame.
I asked about using the vocabulary feature described in one of the tutorials but as I said, haven’t had a reply.

My go-to reader for ebooks

This app has transformed my iPad into a powerhouse for ebook reading and note taking. Ive finished quite a few books using this app on a new iPad Pro, and I’ve yet to find a flaw. User interface is intuitive for organizing books into categories. Updating book covers and importing is a breeze. I love using split view where I can highlight passages and then drag them across into my reading diary (Evernote app). I rarely write app reviews but this is one app I always recommend.

App crashed. No support from developer

I heard so many people rated Marvin 3 highly. I was in the market looking for new ebook reader after disappointing experience with iBook when I changed my new phone. I paid Marvin 3 $7.99 and after I downloaded just over 300 books the app crashed. I tried to restart my iphone, clear the cache but still no luck. I emailed the developer and no reply until now. I wasted my time and money to get app that didn’t even work!!! What a disappointing app. Dont bother downloading this app!!!

Best ebook reader app around

I’ve used many different book reading apps and Marvin 3 is the best. There are so many little things that make this app great that I won’t name them all. But the choice of fonts, layouts, library layout, text to speech, colour schemes.
What I’d like is if the speed reading used Spritz. But this is minor for such a very good reader, and the developer would need to licence it, so just a wish.

Pages

Great reader, took a little getting used to all the options and menus. Took me ages to get it to display the overall pages in the footer.
I wish the page count adjusted with font size changes though.

Terrible interface, for what was a great reader

First let me say I have used and enjoyed the Marvin app for years but this version is just too hard to use.
Too many options, menus, sub menus and different areas to click make it a confusing mess. You try do one thing and you end up doing another. I have tried to like this version for some time but the competition, (KyBook, hyphen etc) is more elegant and refined.
This app need less of a MP3 player, made in the early 2000’s by some cheap no name Taiwanese company approach that rams every possible feature you can think of. And more of an Apple design philosophy that is easy to use and intuitive.

Great reader in need of updates

Marvin 3 is an excellent, full-featured eBook reader. However the UI needs some polish to make it more intuitive, and the developer needs to update it to suit newer iPhones with notches, as the notch cuts off some content. In my wishlist would also be better support for other cloud storage options such as OneDrive, which you can use, but it is a maddening implementation compared to the Dropbox implementation.

3 star is unrelated to the reading exp. But lack of updates.

The app is sorely in need of updates to support iOS 12, now the beta is almost done at the end of next month and the app is half crippled when handling foreign languages in text-to-speech. I tried reaching out to the dev but it's been like throwing stones into the sea no replies no nothing. The Twitter account is dead too...
I really hope that the dev to not neglect his app. I'm willing to move to a yearly subscription model if money is tight.

Great app with flaws...

About a year ago this was unbeatable app and great value. Now everyone has caught up including kindle app and ridibooks app. There is a critical flaw in vertical margin - if using narrowest vertical margin top of the text cuts out with notch on iPhone X and bottom margin is way too wide. I have requested this to be fixed multiple times but no one has responded. After sales support is pretty much non existent.

The Best!

Marvin Classic is a great app, I used it for years but I was happy to buy Marvin 3 - it is worth every cent. For the cost of a couple of coffees this app is just perfect on my iPhone 6S. It's fully-featured, so much so that it's wise to read the user help so you get the best experience. I read voraciously, and have a huge ePub library which was languishing after I lost Stanza. I also proof ARC epubs, and would appreciate full ePub3 support in future! :)

Good for reading but lacks in other areas

Good as a standard book reader. The text to voice sound is not good quality and sounds very robotic, it’s not very useful.
Author expects people to translate the app for free to other languages but ask for ‘tips’ to get be able to use any other colours in the app - a cost that is as high as buying some full apps.

What a nuisance

I have been a fan of the classic Marvin fir years and have been supporting it.
The new one is a nightmare
- yes, it was easy to move the books over from classic to new one but then the trouble starts;
- series titles and numbers are not displayed and I have not been able to find that function. It only shows you author and title details.
- you cannot read in the two sided layout which is my preferred reading mode. No information on how this can be set up.
- in the one page layout you have the extremely annoying banner which you can get deleted for the bargain of $7.99. Excuse me?!
- dropbox link is not working. I usually synchronise via dropbox but that is not working anymore. Great one.
Summary: There might be great whistles and bells for some people. Me, I need a basic reading application which I can easily link with my dropbox and read in a simple layout.
Not doing it for me...

A reader in more ways than one.

Whereas I like the look and feel of iBooks better, Marvin definitely has better extras. It turns any ebook into an audiobook, and text to speech has advanced sufficiently to make this a great experience. The only problem is that it stops at the end of the chapter, with no setting to prevent this. I rarely have time to read, so I love that I can listen to a book while doing other mundane tasks. Multitasking at its best. But I never subscribe to in app purchases, so please release a full version of Marvin that can be paid for in full up front.

The best Ebook Reader on iOS

Having moved all of my PDFs and ePub files away from iCloud and into Dropbox I needed a reader that could load files and sync bookmarks and reading positions. Marvin does all of this and more. One of the most polished apps I've ever used.

Best Dunny Reader

Better even than the Discworld calendar. Terrible dunny paper, though. I love this app, having just promoted myself from its older version. It even opens epub Documents 5 sometimes won't. My only gripe - it doesn't read pdf files. (Edit: Whoops, my bad - It's pretty much as good as Adobe thingummy). Oh, and now I have to buy dunny paper, the iPhone does a terrible job.

Is there a size limit?

I thought this would be a good replacement for Stanza, but it crashes when I try to enter my whole library of epub books - 900 or so books but it's only 570MB. When I try to add in smaller batches it works for a while, then just crashes out & the app won't even open. For $7.99 I am expecting an app that works.

None better

I've spent years looking for a reader like this, and here it is. There's so much to like about it. Apart from a standard range of viewing options, it has features shared by almost no other reading app (like the auto-scroll, which I use all the time). I almost never write reviews. In this case I'll make an exception. Great app.

Work of art

My initial review is below. Each update shows how much care debs put into their app. Love this app!
Marvin has been my most used app, and is the only app that has stayed constant on my home screen.
Beautifully designed so you can enjoy reading, it's an absolute joy to use.
If this cost $10 I'd buy it - very happy to buy the full app and the themes 😂 thanks devs!

Best ePub reader on IOS

**Update** Highlighting problems seem to be resolved now, putting Marvin back on top. Added one star back, will put the other one back too if the fixes prove stable. Don't let this deter you, Marvin is still the best.**
The previous version of Marvin was already the best, although it had a few bugs and was showing its age. Marvin 3 is truly brilliant, light years ahead of anything else. It's easy to use, nice to look at, and just works.

Money grabbing developer

Just paid for the "Premium Features" on this - and at $7.99 it is not a cheap app - and then found that the colour schemes are yet another hit in the pocket as "tips". Come off it. How much money do you want to screw out of your customers for minor stuff like that? All "premium Features" does is remove the banner at the bottom if the screen. Not impressed at all.

No iCloud sync?

The developers don't seem interested in responding to my emails. I just want to confirm whether notes and highlights are synchronised across iOS devices. The only thing I can find is the manual synch of reading location, that's it!
Am I doing something wrong, or is this not possible?
If the developers read this, can you please answer my emails?
===[ Previous review ]===
For all its amazing features it doesn't use any form of Cloud for synchronising notes, highlights, bookmarks, or journal entries.
It will synchronise reading position if you tap a button, but nothing automatic.
I emailed the developer to get clarification on this, just in case I'm doing something wrong, but haven't received a response.

Would be perfect if only

If you don't rely on any pdfs you'll absolutely love it. I'd upgrade and happily give the tips requested if I could just have my pdf text books that don't convert properly to ePub in the same place. I know you can't expect the same functionality with pdf but some books, particularly image packed medical texts, just don't cut conversion. I don't want to be trying to remember which books are in this app and which are in another. I'll keep hoping as it's certainly the absolute best reading app.

Marvin is THE best ebook app

I've been using Marvin in it's previous version for years now. Marvin 3 is an improvement on the old program (which is still great).
Anyone who reads needs to use Marvin. It has better options than all other ebook apps and is developed by an avid reader for avid readers.
I continue to use Marvin every day on both iPad and iPhone. And now I can sync between them!

I think this app blows away the competition.

This is, without question, the best app for reading ebooks in the market today. I've had this app for years and have read thousands of books on it. It is clear to me that the developers have a simple goal -- to create the best ePub app they could. They succeeded years ago by blowing away the competition. In version 3, they went further still.
I wonder, sometimes, why the competition -- with their larger capitalisation and access to humongous resources -- can't take a cue from apps like this.

Easily the best way to read a book

Will change to 5 stars once issue is fixed. (Using iPhone 6 on latest iOS) When exiting or moving around book and returning it doesn't quite return to the correct page.
Also need the brightness setting to go much darker.
Otherwise I should thank you for my most used iPhone app and this new version is looking brilliant.
