Waited days to be rejected for nothing

Sent in an application filled everything out, i have years of experience every single certification required and spoke english since birth and got told “Unfortunately, if your application was rejected, this means that you did not have the required experience, English proficiency, or required skills” and then told i’m not allowed to apply ever again and then all contact was closed off from me.

People are working for weeks and they stop giving the shifts saying its hand of the client to choose the staff but client said it’s Sidekicker who does the recruitment.. it’s been 2 weeks without a shift and there isn’t a number you can call and complain. Not valid for most WHV holders

You need a studies certificate to validate your profile and be able to apply to jobs.

But they only offer jobs in areas like hospitality, logistics (fruit picking/packing, etc), events... I’ve got plenty of experience in those but without studies you can’t work.

They have such little amount of jobs available too, and none in my city.

Such a waste of time.

Discriminatory

There is no equal rights to employment as they only show selective jobs to selective people. Also, no proper communication channel. Only one way command system. Even after applying more than 200 odd jobs, not a single job allotted. Seems to be discriminatory and burying Equal Opportunity Employment Legislation.

So I was able to pass the interview because I have some experience and great attitude, however they decided I was no longer a candidate after spending money and time getting the uniform because turns out I had an account with them before with a different email, they deactivated my newest account because of this and provided no further explanation, such a waste of time. Treated like donkey

Once an owner gave me 2 stars for standing up for myself though they were the ones who made all sorts of unprofessional errors ever since I arrived til’ I’ve left.

I’ve given them 5 stars out of courtesy and the company refused to fix this unfair review.

I’ve chose to start working for that damned company to purely work justly for once but after going through all sorts of venues all over Melbourne I found out that they’re all the same. No wonder everyone is short-staffed. I am changing my career.

Great place to find work

Just wish it had a few more features such as u can filter for shift dates but can search specific days/ dates. And sometimes u might get a shift finishing at 6pm and also be given another shift u applied for start at 6pm, it’s happened to me a few time but I’ve worked it out with the two different companies.

I also would like the option if u apply for two shift you can choose which one to accept if they both accept you, currently u get the first shift to accept you, which is fine but sometimes u applied for another shift paying more.

Don’t fall into getting your hopes up.

The app itself is fine but has a questionable approval process. They decided that I have not got ‘enough experience’ after changing my e-mail where I had to try to sign up again with the changed e-mail address as I was prevented from logging in and requesting a reset said that no account existed, even after trying the previous login credentials!

If you’re already struggling as-is especially if you have disability and have no government support, good luck – don’t be surprised if you get kicked off of this platform.

Racist and discriminatory. Blacklists users without any reason or warning. You’re only informed in the form of realising that you cannot log in or reset your account’s login details because ‘it doesn’t exist’.

The idea is great but clearly is let down with a big thumbs down with their inconsistent approval process.

I joined Sidekicker in March before COVID but since hospitality has resumed I have been given several shifts. If I have any questions I email and always receive a prompt positive reply. I would recommend Sidekicker.

App stopped working after a day

When I first downloaded it it was working fine and then when I open it I only get a white screen with the Sidekicker icon in the middle. Updated phone to new iOS version and still does the same thing. However I still receive notifications for jobs, it just opens them to a blank screen.

Pretty self explanatory. Was regularly accessing the app to check shifts prior to the most recent iteration and it’s just not working. Can’t reset password through the app, can’t login with the correct password. It’s really frustrating.

Login doesn’t work on an iPhone - updated

Updated from 1 to 2 stars as the company has taken on board a lot of feedback from myself and other users through the pandemic and appear to be improving.

It would be fantastic if the answers to the job questions could be viewed after applying for a role in the history of your jobs applied.

Still a varied and terribly clunky experience , but I can see improvements.

Very frustrating app

Why can’t I access the dashboard on my computer? Writing applications on my phone is tedious, and prevents copying and pasting when I’ve already got a similar answer I could use as a starting point. There should also be a way to save applications part way through.

It’s a great app which gives choice and flexibility to both employees and employers. But, it wasn’t giving me job as a newbie. Then I changed my profile, bio, statement, and experience, and I did 3-4 shifts which was far like 50 kms away. Guess what! I have started to be selected by nearby employers!!! Thank you Sidekicker.

No good in trying to access working for Victoria jobs

I signed up to try and access Working for Victoria jobs but this app is not great. I find it hard to navigate and it has so few fields I can’t see how I could ever find work through this app. It is a real shame to have all these positions and no effective way for people to find them. I think that the app might be useful in other circumstances but I feel it is not ideal for this project. They are very responsive though.

Super handy

I usually find myself in full-time work, but for the past few years I have used Sidekicker as a side hustle - either when I need extra money or when I’m in between jobs. Being able to jump into the app at any given moment and submit an application within minutes has been super handy, especially as you tend to hear back on the same day (from my experience). Overall, a very convenient app, lovely workforce, and a very friendly support team - 5* to Sidekicker 👍

I’ve worked as a Sidekick over the last 4 years and loved it! Over that time I’ve been able to work hundreds of shifts and the app is updated regularly with improvements to make it easier and more functional to use. Sidekicker is horrible, The Victorian Government should cancel their partnership

I have had Sidekicker for almost 2 years and have received no jobs from it. They are capitalising on the hiring industry just because they can quickly sign up people to their database. Getting a job shouldn’t mean you apply at least every single day for the same roles at the same companies. It’s a scheme of the hierarchy game and keeps the unemployed job seekers with no work.

Don’t recommend

Absolutely agree with the reviews. I’ve only been been using the app for 5 weeks. It keeps giving me alerts to jobs that aren’t there. I receive the same alert about 5 times a day at various times throughout the day.

When I speak to support, their response every time is we’re working hard to get more jobs to you. Maybe don’t focus on getting more jobs and just focus on fixing the platform. There are enough reviews here to warrant that.

Worst system EVER - taunts jobseekers with non-existent roles and SPAM

God only knows what the Victorian Government was smoking when they thought Sidekicker was the best option to support the Working for Victoria program. I can only assume they were the cheapest bidder. You can only apply for jobs via the app - sounds great, right? But when you click on a pop-up app notification on your phone/tablet telling you about a new role being available, you get an “Oh, no - you just missed it” message EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Even if you click on the notification the nano-second you see it on your phone/tablet. Just what someone who’s desperate for work wants to see. It’s like being back in kindergarten and some kid steals the last chocolate straight out of your hand, screaming “Nyeah nyeah nye nyeah nyeah” whilst waving it in your face.

And then there’s the email spam. Just today I got not one, but FOURTEEN (count ‘em!) emails about the same role - and not a single app notification about this role. I tend to access my email on my laptop (SO old-fashioned, I know 🙄) but because it’s impossible to apply for roles on the Sidekicker website (you HAVE to go to the app) you have to change to your phone/tablet. And of course, when you get there, you again get the taunting “Oh no - you just missed it” message.

I complained about the spam to Sidekicker and their explanation was (and I quote) “Every time a role is changed or updated, our system sends an email.” This happens EVEN IF THE ROLE IS ALREADY FILLED AND THEY’RE NO LONGER TAKING APPLICATIONS!!! Again, top marks for taunting job-seekers who are already feeling stressed out and miserable about their situation.

This is a deplorable system, which appears to only have one purpose - taunting already traumatised jobseekers and increasing their desperation and anxiety. The design is dreadful and the developers should be ashamed of themselves. My 10 year old nephew could create a better online experience for users.

App has consistently shown “zero opportunities” even seconds after receiving push notifications. Sidekicker help desk tried to tell me this is because all opportunities were filled within minutes, which just doesn’t make sense or ring true. Very disappointing to see Vic Government “Working for Victoria” apparently relying on such a poor product to connect Victorians to work during COVID-19.

I have been trying to use this app to obtain work through through the work for VIC government scheme and there are no jobs available, even when I receive emails stating there are jobs. I contacted the VIC government to find out if there is any other way to apply for jobs and I was told that I can only contact that particular team via email. What a joke!!

Slave labour

Congrats on creating an app that is basically undercutting employees 24 bucks a hour for shifts after midnight this is capitalism gone too far under the guise of “flexible working” put simply it gives the employers all the benefits they don't pay well, cancel jobs at last minute and you don’t have proper breaks.I wish I spent the 2 weeks I was on it looking for real job.

Horrible service

The app is absolutely not helpful! It’s been 2 months I have been using it, it says jobs available and when you actually apply for them, the shifts either gets cancelled or some or the other reason just pops up! It’s horrible how people say sidekicker onboarding will help you get some part times! I have been applying for all jobs since the time I have attended the onboarding session, but since then haven’t got even one shift yet! How unprofessional is it? Super horrible service! SPAM GALORE!!

If you like to be in the position of applying for a job days out from the actual event and then get a reminder 24 hours before (and wait....it gets better *not*) and then you get a confirm notification that if you don’t respond in one hour you are automatically cancelled off the shift. I can tell you that in no uncertain terms it irritates not only me but the client that I am working for when I have to check my phone for fear of losing a shift! Well done Sidekicker for developing an app that rules your life and pleases the slave labour industry *insert sarcasm here*.

Reviews accurate can’t login via app

The reviews are accurate which is a shame, since they are a year old and the software was updated just 2 weeks ago.

If you created an account via the webpage, it won’t let you login the app and says it’s only for the webpage. Unbelievable really, can’t say as to the rest of the company, as this is so stupid I won’t be bothering trying to get work via this place, I’ll listen to the reviews. Cannot believe they have not fixed that in over a year, wow, wouldn’t waste my time downloading it

The app is seriously full of little glitches that are not conducive toward actual work. Firstly it’s saying that there’s open jobs then when you click the tab there isn’t nearly as much as it’s saying. Then there’s the constant crashing when you apply for the jobs. I can’t believe the place I work for forces us to use this third party app to cover their slimy work ethic.

Sidekicker will exploit you!

I worked through Sidekicker for a few weeks in April this year. Sidekicker sends users notifications for jobs via the app, most of these jobs are only 3 hour shifts at catering events. Some days there are about 5 jobs available, other days none. Despite there being very few jobs available, Sidekicker recruits a huge amount of workers and has them compete against one another to earn typically $20-22 per hour – sometimes below the legal hospitality award rate.

Under each job listing there is a comments section, Sidekickers are encouraged to battle one another in the comments section and prove their self worth. For each job they apply for, Sidekickers must also send a paragraph to an employer describing why they deserve the role, despite already having their CVs, face pictures, and a huge amount of personal information included on their profiles.

After weeks of frantically applying for 3 hour shifts at catering events, I was dismissed from Sidekicker and my profile was banned. I was dismissed after an employer had messed me around, offering me shifts, withdrawing them, offering them again, and finally taking the shifts away from me at the last minute. This had messed up my whole week. The employer, Yarra Vale Dairy, sent me a message and I responded with “This is unacceptable. I strongly recommend a boycott of Sidekicker. This company holds a large amount of workers by strings, dangling unattainable 3 hour catering shifts in front of them. Hundreds of Sidekickers will apply for one shift, but generally only one employee will be chosen. Sidekicker is not just a recruitment agency, it is an addictive, social-media style gig economy app that will drain every single minute of your day. Don’t download it!
