Crashed 3 times within 1 min (and that includes time needed to reopen after each crash). Login boxes fall off the edge of the screen, book text has no margins. Won’t be buying an eBook from Dymocks again!

If you forget to bookmark your last page read its very frustrating having to try snd find where you left off. It would be great if the app took you the correct page.

Let’s start with, page turning doesn’t work.
There is no “search” function - which is in the iPad edition but has dodgy results.
The menu item for additional functions is one black line and you have to guess where to hit for the different features.
This app is so so bad it should never have been approved by Apple.
Back to the drawing board Dymocks. I’m back to Apple iBooks

It would be much easier if you could open the ebook you purchase with another app that someone’s put time into making sure works.
When I search through the book on Dymocks’ ereader it only takes me to beginning of the chapter, not a specific page. Also the app doesn’t save your progress if it closes (e.g. if your tablet restarts) so you have to go through the book again and find your place.
If there were any other way to read an ebook from Dymocks I would do that, but would definitely not recommend buying ebooks from them.

Doesn’t save my bookmark, whenever i go into the app it takes me to the very first book marked i ever used at the beginning of the book. I’ve tried unmarking it but every time it still returns to the same page.
Also consistently crashes. Would not recommend.

I think whoever designed the app is a different to the person who made the app because I know that coding requires words which thus implies the ability to read and probably that someone who can read has probably read/seen A BOOK! imagine that.
What I tried to read a book I PAID FOR I mistakenly thought I could read it in a linear fashion! Silly me right? Nope because let’s go back to the start of the chapter! Yay! Why would anyone want to read the previous page? That would be ludicrous!

Absolutely terrible app. Doesn’t bookmark pages, crashes, doesn’t keep the page you are reading, crashes again because you turn the page, starts at the beginning of the book every time you open the app or go to another screen, crashes if you turn pages too fast to get to your page. Did I mention that it crashes? What a waste of money. I can’t even read my book that I purchased.

I recently purchased an ebook for university and it’s my first time using the app . It app constantly crashes , the ebook it’s self is very slow when scrolling and does not perform as well as other application such as ibooks . Definitely would not recommend

This is a very poor ereader. I had to go through a few hoops just to get the book loaded in the first place. Unintuitive to use, doesn’t display well, I honestly don’t know why they bother creating their own when there are so many other excellent ones out there. Sorry to say if this is the only platform Dymocks offers for ebooks then I won’t be buying from them again.

I dont understand the recent outpouring of negative reviews. If it really was that bad in the past, it seems as though its been fixed (21-2-2020). I had a minor issue logging in and had to reload the app a few times, but nothing as serious as the other reviews.
Dymocks appears to have listened and made significant improvements to the quality of the app. The only reason Im not saying full stars is because of the issue with signing in the first time. My textbooks were there, I had immediate access to them and no issues with the quality of “book” whatsoever.
Give it a chance. If you dont get what your after (which is unlikely given my experience) get a refund, same as you would with any other company. I doubt you will have such issues though.
However, the best part has to be that its not an amazon company. I think that automatically gives it 2 stars at least. 😉

Yeah, this app doesn’t work. The book was bought for me as a present and it was immediately frustrating that I have to get a new dedicated app to read this one book only. While the book was instantly available in the library to download, that was as far as functionality went. It displays the same page on both visible pages on screen, and tapping on next page gets me the page turn animation, but doesn’t turn to the next page. The slider at the bottom, and the chapter selector work to take me to a specific point, but of course I can’t turn the page any further than that. Also it crashed and forgot the page I was on. We are getting a refund and buying through amazon instead...

Purchased an eBook online downloaded and logged into the app and was able to read my book without any issues.
My only critique was there was no facility to lookup a word like there is in other popular ereaders. That would be an amazing addition to the app. Couldn’t highlight text either. Bit limited in functionality whilst reading but I had no problems finding the book I’d purchased or reading it.

The app is not working well at all. You need internet connection every time you want to open the book. The app does not remember what page of the book you were reading if you open and close the app before finishing the book. While reading, the pages are not correctly labelled, and if you try to go back or forth, it just does not work!! Absolutely disappointed, will never buy another ebook with them.

I only just downloaded it but freaked out when I read the reviews as I had already bought the books. Though the reviews are old so just leaving a note, I’ve had no issue. I downloaded the app, logged in, my purchased books (15 mins prior) where listed, I pressed the download button, they downloaded quickly and I have been able to open and navigate through them all. Should do the job just fine.

Be prepared to bookmark EVERY SINGLE PAGE AS YOU READ because this app will tend to crash as soon as you try to highlight text, annotate a passage, or simply turn a page. Incredibly frustrating for students with a high volume of reading to get through.
Also, the app support link returns a 404 error!

If there is a worse reading app than this one, I really don’t want to know about it. It is clumsy and not user friendly. Highlighting passages is a pain the backside (so damn easy in the Kindle app). When I stop reading, close the app, and later come back to the app it does not tell me the book I am currently reading. When I open the book it does not go to my latest bookmark. This is just basic functionality that is not available. The app has not been given very much thought and is poorly executed. This a great example of how not to build a reading app.

Downloaded a book that I required urgently for an assignment. Loaded up the app and then the book..... this all happened as expected. Then the problems started.
Stroll button on bottom of page - never worked
In text links - worked 50% of the time, the other time froze
Every other function would eventually freeze
Diagrams were always so large that you would only ever see less than 50%, even after adjusting font.
Team working on your app - fire them if they work for you, or cancel their contract
Dymocks won’t survive if you think this app is your answer to decreasing book sales.
The one star is for the speed at getting a refund

I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing an ebook and putting this app on my device. The ebook was apparently never available in the first place but Dymocks were happy to take my money. The response I received from Dymocks was "your compensation is your refund" after wasting my time waiting on this book to never come, I thought that rather arrogant. Sure it wasn't an expensive book but it's the principle really. Maybe Dymocks should take a lesson on customer service. You've lost this customer for sure.

It’s so annoying! I bought a book that I need to read for work and every 3 pages it crashes. Not only is it annoying because I then have re-open it but it loses the page I’m on. I have deleted and the-installed to try and fix the problem with no luck! At this point it seems like a pretty pointless e-reader app when you can’t actually read anything!

Useless app as it downloads the book but then when I try to read it, the app kicks me out and I have to start again, very frustrating. After mostly negative reviews, I would have expected that the app would have the bugs fixed, but it appears not. I was redirected from Dymocks help line to ADE and the support staff there were very helpful and downloaded the book into their app and I was then able to read the whole book. I have just purchased another ebook from the Dymocks website in the hope that I would not have the problem again, but alas, nothing has changed. When my $50.00 gift card is used up, I will never purchase an ebook through Dymocks website again, ADE is better, and so is iBooks if only purchasing a novel to read.

Firstly, their “Immediate download” is incorrect. Took 2 days of back and fourth with support to get the ability to download the book. I have it in the app now, but the link has since disappeared from my account history, so it looks like I can’t download it again in the future.
At purchase I didn’t receive an email of confirmation or a link to download. I needed the book ASAP and figured this would be quick and easy. WRONG. In short, don’t bother.

Needed a book for a university essay and ordered it online under the impression the ebook would appear in the app within five minutes (according to the Dymocks website and confirmation email). 5 days later and it’s still not there. Complete waste of time and money.
There’s no excuse in 2018 for a chain as large as Dymocks to have a faulty app and website. This needs to be remedied.

Bought a book I needed for school and it’s nowhere to be found the money was taken but no book I downloaded the app on multiple devices and have had no luck and was disappointed when I read the reviews and quickly realised I’m not getting the book anytime soon and this is a common occurrence I got an ebook and was told it would be available for download immediately don’t waste your time and money 🤷🏻‍♀️

I recently purchased an e-book I needed for an essay at university- first time I’ve done this.
Before I bag the app, I will commend the Dymocks staff for their help. I can’t speak for others but they replied to my email a couple days later (my ebook originally didn’t appear in the library) and a tech guy helped me set it up with another e reader (ADE). This was all very well done.
However, the dymocks e reader itself is less than functional from my experience and honestly it’s probably more worthwhile using ADE (Adobe Digital Edition). The reason the ebook may not appear in the library is because the ebook may not be transferred after purchase in the first place (which was what happened to me). This can hopefully be rectified by emailing the staff.
However, I honestly think Dymocks should provide a functional app. This app has their brand name in it and it can be very frustrating for some people. Even with their help, I still had had issues with ADE because of authorisation or whatever. The app crashed within ten seconds once my ebook was in the library- I didn’t download it cause I knew it wouldn’t work.
It has been a frustrating process and it does make me reluctant to purchase an ebook from them again- should it be this frustrating. Luckily, my experience with their assistance was great but unfortunately the app isn’t up to par.
Do not expect great results from this.
