Unfortunately this app is the only way to control the nice WXAD10 unit to play my FLAC files off network.
This app, even the latest version, still does not let you drag a slider left or right when playing a song, so you can rewind or fast forward!
Seems a pretty basic function for a music player..
Also it sometimes crashes.
This is not intuitive at all - the layout of rooms, sources and devices is terrible. This app really needs to work on the visual layout and make connecting so much easier ...
Changed my wifi network and the set up process fails every time
I cannot cone t to the new wifi network so my wxad 10 is now useless
I have Yamaha top of the line sound bar and the device can not connect to MusicCast. It is hard wired to the network. The fact that the app cannot simply see the device and add it to the MusicCast network is a joke. It seems to assume wifi.
I think Yamaha really needs to hire some proper IT folks to sort this mess out. It really is unacceptable.
I also have a Yamaha aventage receiver and it has no issues so beats me why the sound bar cannot be made to work.
When it works, it’s good. But I constantly loose connection with my Musiccast devices.
And I’ve never been able to set up a device wirelessly; It requires a set-up through Ethernet cable to modem.
Frustrating as I’ve invested A fair bit: Yamaha soundbar; Yamaha amp, and musiccast 50.
Recurring problem with all devices.
Better to go with a system that is more reliable.
Can’t even connect to devices following the last update. Like so much consumer electronics, this is abandonware. Avoid.
I bought 3 Yamaha amps 18 months ago. I was hoping to control them all with multiple devices (2 Apple iPhones, and 1 shared iPad) directly through Spotify for a truely multi room music experience.
I’m giving the app a 1 star rating because of the glitches in the system. I knew of the glitches, because of the reviews on the App Store at the time of purchase. But I took a leap of faith, hoping the app developers would fix things. Unfortunately I am still experiencing the same things that I read about when I originally bought the system. 18 months of software development, and it’s the same old story.
Sometimes things work quite well, I’m able to start an amp through Spotify, then link to an additional amp, playing synchronous music across multiple rooms. Perfect. But this is the exception, rather than the rule, and often the system either can’t find the amp, or the integration between giving commands through my iPhone (like increasing the volume using the side buttons) causes the system to go completely nuts. Just 5 minutes ago, I attempted to turn off an amp through the MusicCast app, but couldn’t, and this finally prompted me to write this review. You’d think such fundamental issues would be addressed swiftly...but such flaws apparently don’t concern the thick-skinned software developers at Yamaha. 18 months of disappointment is wearing thin.
In short, the MusicCast app developers need to get on top of the glitches - it’s probably the most frustrating app I run, and were it not for the fact that I have bought the hardware, I would have long defected. Alas, now I am stuck.
Time to rethink this app. The hardware is sorely let down by the very basic capabilities of the app.
OK so its not Room but its fairly useless other than remotely turning gear on and off.
Selecting Tidal streaming does not launch full native Tidal app, only a sluggish and pathetic basic access to Tidal that lacks most features. It is hard to describe how awful the Tidal interface is. Absolutely minimum effort has been expended to provide a basic interface. Launching Spotify gives full native app, so why is Tidal access so useless?
Also the setting to stop ipad volume buttons from adjusting output volume does not work.
Would have expected much better from Yamaha.
Anyone wishing to stream Tidal or Deezer will be very unhappy with Yamaha Music Cast. Spotify Connect works well with Music Cast. Apple Music is ok using Air Play if you can handle the horrible Apple Music app.
Yamaha do not seem concerned with the serious shortcomings in the app. I would not have spent my hard earned on Yamaha gear had I known how poor this app was.
Whenever you try to turn on the zone b option through the app, the app crashes happens on multiple phones. Please fix this
Since the software patch upgrade I’ve found that while music is playing it just stops part of the way through the song. Really annoying bug that needs to be resolved.
I have a wxc-80 and this app is unusable with Spotify and ITunes from on iPhone 7 (phone/app/device on all the latest updates). It drops in and out for a few minutes before just dropping the connection all together. I’m not sure if it poor implementation of airplay, bad wifi receiver or just a badly developed app. Unfortunately I would not invest in expanding our home network of speakers with other musiccast devices.
Works great when It’s working but 75% of the time doesn’t work on Net radio with Telstra WI-FI and D-link range extender.
Every day is different luck of the draw.
This app does the basics ok - connecting and playing music. But there’s nothing intuitive about it and it’s really not designed for people who listen to music a lot.
Despite following instructions from the in-app tips, it’s not possible to add music to a queue or to create a playlist. That means every time an album from our phone finishes, it stops and we need to manually select another. I didn’t expect it to be inferior to our previous five stack CD player and iTunes but so far, when it comes to queuing or searching for music, or creating a playlist, this app falls well short of expectations.
MusicCast is an alright app and functions well when your in the app and connected. However when try to connect a speaker to the wifi the app pretty much doesn’t work
It has got a nice app symbol tho
Great app, however could you PLEASE build in an alarm feature, meaning a feature which will start a device at a set time with a set music source? ( and stop it at a set time) Sonos do that very well, check it out. Thanks!
Recently purchased a MusicCast 20, Sub 100 and MusicCast Vinyl 500. I am unable to complete the initial setup of the system and receive an error code 10305/10306 every time I try to connect the devices to the app. Very frustrating...
The app does a great job, though it would be great if the sound programs list filled the screen. Currently, you have to scroll down to select stereo, which is the only option off screen. Even better, it would be great if there was a widget to access the sound programs.
Great app but unless I have full signal of wifi it doesn’t work. Frustrating!
Should still work with 2 of 3 wifi signal bars.
Also lack of ability to play Apple Music.
I have only purchased new the Yamaha Rx-v683 receiver 18months ago & everything was working great through music cast & av receiver. Always played my music this way. The last few weeks I haven’t been able to connect. I have done all troubleshooting recommendations and everything is up to date. Today I looked further into the app and it says that it only supports Rx-v685 with no mention of Rx-v683. If this is no longer supported what a great wAste if my money! What measures are you tAking to provide accessibility for older units. Surely you would support a relatively new product that is only 18months old.
Very useful in design but poor in execution.
Very shameful that I can not play YouTube over all the speakers connected with the so called Music Cast!
It costs me $ 350 each and I got 6 of them!!
Please do something Yamaha!!!
I need to return all of them back to you if still no progress made!!
Tried setting up google Assistant works once then you have to set it up again and again and again if this worked it would be great
Great concept... but it keeps dropping out all the time... requires a total reset, reconnect to the wifi and stereo. Every time I use my phone with the music cast app it very time consuming. Reset... wait... reconnect... play music... next day start again... reset... wait... reconnect... play music... reset... wait... reconnect... play...
Stupid system. Why?
Tidal MQA support would be handy, I prefer to use this app to stream music via tidal direct to my CX A5200 rather than the Apple TV app, much clearer sound.
Really great app previously but lately it’s been painful! Will not work at all! Have tried disconnecting devices and reconnecting but can’t even reconnect rendering our three devices useless!! Less than impressed.
Please look in to updating software so that people don’t have this issue.
I was a bit apprehensive buying a network receiver - who wants to be stuck with an embedded computer and proprietary app to manage all the inputs? MusicCast is actually pretty great. I mostly use it to access my tuner and net radio presets, which is easy, and adjust volume if I’m not near the remote. Activating Spotify Connect from my computer changes the input automatically so I don’t have to worry about that. Great levels of information about the currently playing track and system debugging info like IP addresses too. Keep up the good work Yamaha!
Worst app ever, always drops out, and no its not my connection. Loses all the links you had to different speakers. Dont recommend.
Can not connect anymore to my receiver from any device. Airplay not working, Bluetooth not working, app not connecting. Tried deleting and reinstalling... nothing. Super frustrating particularly at the price of the receiver. Should at leas be able to airplay music from my phone, iPad or MacBook.
I steam high quality audio, runs quite well. Although would be nice to have a option to mix in next tracks, also app is very slow to navigate through. Apple
Watch support will be great or a desktop app for Mac/Win 💪🏼✔️
The application and MusicCast itself isn’t too bad. However it can definitely do with some updates and new features.
I’d like to see support for connection directly to a server share, I.e SMB so you play all your files directly and no need for a DLNA server in the middle. This would also help with the playback of DSD files since most dlna server don’t understand it.
When using DLNA, it would be great for a search option to look up songs on the server. Also a search bar if direct file share is ever added too.
And the big one, especially for iOS uses is the ability to add AppleMusic as a service directly, like Sonos do and not just AirPlay, but baked into the application itself. Sonos do it, so I’m sure it can be done.
Overall, the UI needs some tweaking to make things more simple, there are lots of taps to do things. Hate to go back to the Sonos app, but it’s worth Yamaha taking look at its powerful but simplistic approach.
Please keep up the updating and advancement of the MuiscCast application. Cheers.
Was very easy to set up and hi-res sounds marvelous. Does rely on WiFi but luckily we have excellent internet speeds so not a worry. Will benefit from a good WiFi router to ensure speed and connectivity.
We were really happy with this app, but this version has some serious bugs on our iPad with the volume control. Needs urgent attention as we use it for a gym and now working properly.
Overall I’m personally happy with the app, is it pretty good. Would be great if the developers fixed ‘favorites’ feature in internet radio section. It doesn’t remember stations after adding to the group and only displays some. ( iPhone X, iOS 12 )
Will there be a Music Cast app for the Apple Watch?
I thought my phones battery was having serious issues until I discovered this app was the culprit!
The app uses 75-80% of my battery every day and I haven’t even opened the app!
The app works well when I want to use it but at least give me an option to prevent background use or i’ll just delete the app.
Recently we've had 2 app updates in a matter of weeks, after next to nothing for 12+ months. Now the app crashes before even opening. Great work, Yamaha.
No chance to reset and try again, just crash. Brilliant.
App keeps losing devices and requires wi fi reset on iPhone, although iPad version is ok. Latest version of app now prevents devices being set up as MusicCastSetup network no longer appears, instead Apple iOS requires airplay setup. This allows playback through speaker but prevents remote Mngmt of speakers via MusicCast app. Hence the app is currently useless until new fix from Yamaha
Looks nice when my iPhone X comes up on the display put won’t play any of the music displayed. The only way I can use it is to find the speaker and use airplay so it’s basically an on/off switch & nothing else
Overall it’s a great way to control my amp via my iPhone and functionally it provides me with everything I need. Initiating, waking and playing via Spotify and the iPhone’s AirPlay controls is brilliant.
I agree with previous comments the UX could be simplified to allow faster access to frequently used features including volume , tuner.
Keep on tweaking and you’ll have a great product!
Confusing app to use. Needs improvement on linking areas
Hi-res audio files (24 bit, 96kHz) played over wireless from a music server on my desktop via a Yamaha WXAD-10 to my high quality home hi-fi system sound very good so I will persevere with using the IOS app to control the process even though it has some deficiencies. These have been bearable but a recent update to IOS 11.4.1 seems to have caused further problems. The iPad app keeps losing the WXAD and I have to reboot the iPad or turn the WXAD off and on. This was not an issue prior to the update. A fix would be appreciated. Thanks.
Unfortunately there is no integration with Alexa in Australia. I foolishly bought 2 echo dots in the belief that I would be able to control my musiccast speakers with the echo dots. But nope.
I’ve been using Music Cast for about 1 year and have noted that I have to re-setup several times for no reason. Also if I get a phone call the music stops but doesn’t continue once call is completed. Selecting an Artist one should be able to Shuffle all albums instead of only one.
Overall Yamaha as a major company please put more effort into improving this product. I have always bought Yamaha but I’m not sure if that will continue.
I’ve been using MusicCast with 3 MusicCast devices for quite some time now and it works very well. But the app is lacking a search function for music on a DLNA server. Other sources have search functions but it’s limited to that individual source like the music files on your iPhone or Tidal etc. There’s no universal search where you can search across multiple sources at once. Add these search functions and then the app would get 5 stars. A desktop version for Mac & Windows would be appreciated too.
This app failed to connect to my wifi network, so the WX-010 “wireless” speaker that I purchased has to be wired via cat-5 to function. The process of connecting is slow, cumbersome and offers little information about why it fails. I would discourage anyone from buying networked audio gear from this company because their functionality depends on this app, which has much room for improvement.
After a firmware upgrade using the USB method, the system is up and running again. Great technical support from Yamaha Australia.
After firmware upgrade, the App works flawlessly.
***Original 1Star Review***
After update of the App and firmware to my WXA-50 Amplifier, I am unable to setup the WXA-50. The App reports "Setup failed. Please restart setup.(-10103)"
I’ve got a strong WiFi network in the house, but that does stop the app crashing and losing access to Tidal and Spotify - painful to continually need to reconnect.
