Weird Al with more of what he's great at!
Weird Al, an entertainer that is known most widely known for his parodies of popular songs, still manages to rise above the plethora of sub-par parody songs one can find on the web these days.
Even with the increased popularity of humourous parodies, Al proves that he can create album chock a block full of musical hilariousness. Yankovic kicks off the album with two great special mentions, the first being the energetic parody of Pharell's 'Happy ' Which of course' is fittingly named Tacky. (If pharell's hat is anything to go off)
He brings the magnifying glass on today's society, with references to instagramming and takes a stab at the college lifestyle's love of posting empty licqour bottles. It's nothing that hasn't been done before, but the energy of Weird Al's peformance and the great lyricism push the song into the green zone, it proves a great starter for Mandatory Fun.
The other special mention would be 'Foil' a brilliant parody of Lorde's Royals, now Al could have gone anywhere with this ultra-popular song, but oddly he chooses to base it around Foil? My doubts about the song were instantly dashed when I heard the first verse,
'But then I deal with fungal rot, bacterial formation
Microbes, enzymes, mould and oxidation'
With amazing lyricism that has become a staple of Al's work it seems that Al had gone back to his classic food based formula, or had he? ----- By the time the second verse comes around Al switches from talking about fungal and rot, being prevented by wrapping your food in foil and he's now claiming that the illumanati are controlling the earth. Apparently foil can be used for a hat too.
Another few great songs on the album would be the Foo Fighters-esque rocker 'My Own Eyes' and the grammar based 'Word Crimes, or #WordCrimes'.
