I love it! You know, there should really be a genre of music titled 'muse' because muse are so unique and awesome I don't think they fit into anything.
Still love them though!

To all the people out there giving this album 1 star,
Think about it. If you were a musical genius like Matt and you had these amazing tools such as a choir, a strings section and a massive array of instrument at your disposal, you would use them. It's like if a talented athlete had a whole training gym put in front of them. They would use it. So who cares if Muse changed their sound? If you don't like it, don't ruin it for the people who do.

Sensational!

There is not a song in this album that doesn't take roots from a movie or an artist. There is Queen, INXS, Bowie, Michael Jackson, Birds of Tokyo, U2, Never ending story, Moulon Rouge, James Bond, the list goes on and on...
Every time I listen to this album, I find so much more each listen that blows me away.
I have never been a big fan of Muse, but I have to say this album is unturnoffable.
Even the 'dub step' tracks are tolerable, if not enjoyable and a bit of fun.
I highly recommend this album.
We'll done Muse.

Hearing this album live and their classics was insane!! follow me is easilly my favourite and with matt saying that the next is going for the 'origin of symmetry' style again of muse, HOW AM I GONNA WAIT TILL 2015?!?

I was extremely skeptical at first and I do admit despite being a massive Muse fan I disliked a lot of the album. However, after listening to it a few times and seeing them live, I have grown to really like it even though I originally preferred their old sound. The dubstep is a bit radical but, again, after seeing it live I don't mind it anymore. Overall it's an awesome album.

This album is wonderful. Its atmospheric, cinematic, other-worldly space prog rock at its best. Supremacy has a driving riff, Madness is addictive, Panic Station is a great one to sing-along to etc. I LOVE 2nd Law: isolated system. It was part of Bellamy's contribution to the Brad Pitt film World War z soundtrack and its incredibly interesting. There are no vocals, only a repetitive newsreader-esque voiceover banging-on about "an isolated system" and its effective. There is a strong overall sense of eeriness and foreboding which worked well with the film and complements the other tracks on this spacetastic album! A real treat, can't wait to see the boys live in Dec!

I think back to when I first discovered muse all those years ago, and they really defined my music tastes back in high school. I think they were really veering away from their experimental with black holes and revelations, I still liked that album but it was definitely when they started declining most likely due to their uprising commercial success. I understand that bands grow and change and I can appreciate that the music often changes with bands that we like, but their new stuff is so terrible, unoriginal and boring. They are lyrical and musical geniuses and I don't understand how they have gone so far off the track, it makes me said. I still listen to Showbiz, Origin of Symmetry and Absolution, and I like to remember them for what they were and not what they've become :(

Anything for attention

Evolution before your very ears. It took me a while to fully appreciate this album, but it is Muse's most refined and daring work yet - a real summary of how professional and skilled they have become in their genre, and everyone else's.

This album is quite different for MUSE, not their usual style. I like it a lot but loved their other music too. I can hear a BIG RADIOHEAD influence there and a splash of QUEEN in there in some of their tracks. Mmmm it's certainly different boys....

Well, I've been looking forward to the new Muse album for a long time. I've heard all of their albums, and until now they've definitely been my favourite band. I was, to put it gently, disgusted when they released...this. WHERE'S THE OLD MUSE GONE?!! I thought Muse was supposed to be alternative rock, not alternative pop!!! f you're a hardcore Muse fan, don't even glance at this album (unless you're buying "Liquid State", which is sung by Chris not Matt and is actually decent, though it's still not QUITE typical Muse, and never will be without Matt's high-pitched voice. I don't know how they kept him in backing vocals for so long). If you're new to Muse, and you're not a huge fan of pop, then try The Resistance, or Black Holes and Revlations, but certainly not this.
In short, I think Muse has sold its soul to the Satan of Rock (Matt Bellamy's relationship with Kate Hudson an influence? Or has Chris gotten even more drunk than usual during recording?)

WOW, this album is so perfect. If you like really beautiful arrangements which are so much more complex than people think they are...wow, Listening to Muse albums from the debut to this album you will understand that this album had been laying dorment under the skin slowing rippening with each muse release and this album delivers such a wonderful sonic experience for people who actually have an undertanding of musicical structure and emotion. The best album Ive heard since Mastodon crack the skye......great job guys......love it.....love it......love it.

People seem to forget that if bands didn't change their sound, everybody would turn into Nickelback. People hate Nickelback, and yet people hate people who experiment with their sound. If you separate the album from the artist's name, is it a good album? If it isn't, then that's fine with me. I respect your opinion. But there are absolutely no grounds on which to criticise an artist for experimenting. It's their sound, not yours...
That being said, pretty nice album, strongest through the middle section.

Heard an interview with Matt on the radio and he said he had proven to everyone that they could do bombastic on previous albums and he wanted to strip it back which he has done very well but he has gone bombastic with the production on this album. Excellent sounding and very well produced. Five stars.

As a massive muse fan. Have to say this is right up there as their best album. No dodgy tracks. Madness, Survival, Supremacy have alrerady proven to be hits. New sound is amazing. Really empasized in panic station, follow me and unsustainable. They start off with a bang at the first half of the album. then turn it into a easy listening sound (in a muse way) ;)...Chris debuts on the vocals, (Save Me and Liquid State) which brings a new element and hopefully a taste of the future Muse. They really ace this album. Shows great development as a band. Recommended for every Muse fan.

Muse albums never disappoint me. And The 2nd Law is no exception.
It has the diversity that is found in all 5 previous studio albums that have a distinct sound to make them all recognizable Muse songs.
From start to finish The 2nd Law had me intrigued and willing to listen to the new musical styles that Matt, Dom & Chris have been influenced by. I fell in love with the first listen, but I was not all that surprised that this would happen.
I appreciated and understand for the need to change the influences in the band as they need to stay interested in the music to get it to the release, they are all passionate musicians with a hunger to learn new instruments and ways to produce sound by using organic instruments and that is the one thing that has been continued through the albums from Showbiz all the way through to this new release.
My guys have once again not let me down.. :)

Nice Work!!

First time i listened to the whole album, i was a tad disappointed.......but then a couple of days later, i listened to it again but this time i really listened to it.......about 5 times on repeat. Didn't take long for the disappointment to turn into being mighty impressive.
Don't be too quick to write it off because the album doesn't sound like the "old muse", let it grow on you.
And its fantastic to hear Chris sing not 1 but 2 songs as well, can't wait to hear them live.
Stand outs are Supremacy, Madness, Panic Station, Save Me, Liquid State and The 2nd Law: Unsustainable &Isolated System.
Nice work guys, very nice work.

Like every one of Muse's more recent albums, they have experimented with there sounds, and this is a perfect example. No-doubt many people won't like a few of the songs but Muse is more than just an every day band. They have the skill, talent and following to always try new things and this album is an example of that. If you like a bit of old Muse then 'Supremacy' is for you.
Personally, I can't stop listening to 'Follow Me' and think that the touch of Dub Step makes it AMAZINGGG. Even Chris' song 'Save Me' is great. Everyone is complaining that it sounds like Queen and dated, but didn't 'Starlight sound dated? and that has been one of their best songs!
Despite a slightly different direction in The 2nd Law, there are still the Amazing Vocals and beats that keep us coming back for more. I Admit that with my first listen I was a bit questioning but it grows on you like Muse always done and is a great album!!

I give it 5 stars cos they've committed to an entirely different direction, I like the direction despite the risks they've taken, Matt bellamy is a fantastic composer and should be congratulated on his efforts, Chris's lead vocals was a great change and their variation between stadium rock, symphonic sounds and more intimate vibes is really something to be appreciated and admired,
the many the traditional muse fans of showbiz, origin, absolution may find this completely random and uncomfortable to listen to, but if you give it a chance you may find that this new direction that was foreshadowed in the resistance album to be refreshing, enlightening and exciting.
Some may say that Muse has lost its foundations but they're the band, the creators; they can make their own choices, in addition they should be trusted to take progression in risky areas because they have proven their greatness in the past thus their abilities for such future manifestations should have only minor questioning.
Of course as it is Muse greatness, experimentation and downright absurdity is evident on this record, I can't wait to see them live to perform this exciting new material!

I think the problem lies with the fact that Muse said before the album's release that they thought it was their best album yet, leaving people with high expectations. It certainly is not their best, but is still very impressive. What is interesting about this album is that almost every song seems to grow on you. Follow Me and Big Freeze seem to be quite underated songs for how great they are. Chris's songs are a nice addition but sadly are my least favourites on the album. I would certainly prefer new songs similar to Stockholm Syndrome and Plug in Baby coming from Muse, but these songs are definately not as bad as some people are saying; I can tell a lot of effort went into making each of them. If you're still unsure about buying look at it this way, it's a whole lot better than what other modern day bands are offering.

Wow

I was skeptical at first, it's quite different to anything that they've done before. Some may not like their new direction, and I didn't at first, but they're constantly evolving, which I love. As much as it's not my favourite, it's great! At least they're trying something new.

This is another great album from Muse. Yes it is a different sounding album to previous ones, but as music tastes change quite often, so to can the bands style of music change also. While it may not be the same sound as albums such as Showbiz or Origins of Symmetry, etc., it still remains essentially, Muse.

A pleasant surprise

I have heard many things about this album about how bad it was going to be, but after listening to a few songs, it deems itself worthy of anyone's CD rack. Personal favorite tracks include Survival, Madness, Supremacy and Panic Station. Actually, all the songs are good.
