There's not a lot of albums I own that I will happily listen to every single track. Blunderbuss, however, is an exception to this norm.
After my first few listens i've got a couple on favourites:
Sixteen Saltines is that raw, energetic yet somewhat 'relaxed' style that Jack White is so well known for. Takes me back to the pure genius that was Hardest Button to Button.
Freedom at 21 is super-cool, with that awesome guitar riff and a great flow throughout the song, Jack's unique voice sounds amazing in throughout the track.
If I closed my eyes and never saw the album cover, this could very well be a White Stripes album, albeit lacking the simple-yet-powerful instrumentals that Jack & Meg exploded with. I miss the White Stripes, I still listen to them daily. In my opinion, the greatest Rock band of my generation and the soundtrack to my teenage years. With that in mind, I can't help but love this album even more; it's the closest this to the Stripes that we'll ever get and I tell myself that some of these tracks very-likely were intended to be White Stripes songs.
Jack is a genius; this album is undoubtedly proof of that (if the White Stripes, Raconteurs and Dead Weather wasn't already enough..)
More complex, more instrumental, and Jack has managed to blur the line between genres to create an album which flows brilliantly, yet each track is completely unique.
I couldn't give this anything less that 5 starts. This is music that excites yet calms me at the same time. The world is a better place with the Genius that is Jack White.
