Ok so a lot of people are complaining about how they're sounding now compared to their old sound, times change and the music we love has to evolve, yeah they dont sound like they did on the sunrise over sea album or their earlier stuff but that's because pop music has taken over, and if reggae and folk music are going to survive then they need to adapt, that's exactly what John butler trio have done and they've done an amazing job! This and grand national are in my opinion their best yet closely followed by sunrise over sea (if you haven't got it, get it), and to the people who are complaining that he isn't going on about all his environmentalism and other beliefs, what he's writing about in this album are other issues plaguing the world, he's still writing about what ticks him off but just other issues such as politics, warfare and poverty. So please realize that he's still doing what he does best and doing it well!!
P.s I still reckon ocean is the most amazing song he has ever written, just saying

Couldn't be Better.

This is an amazing abulm.
When I first saw it, I listended and purchased 'Revolution' and 'One Way Road'. Soon after, they reached the top 15 most played songs on our iTumes library, (out of 200 songs). After a while, I came back to the abulm, listened to "Close to You' and Don't Wanna see Your Face', and bought them. Then I bought 'I'd do Anything' and 'C'mon Now'. Then 'Johnny's Gone' then 'Ragged Mile', Then 'Mystery Man'.
Then I listened to the rest of the songs on the abulm, and just bought the entire abulm. It cost $20.99, and I used up all my iTunes money, nut I don't care. Every single song is wonderful and melodic, or fast and energetic
I love the varity in this abulm. It starts off with the unforgettable, deep meaningfull tone of 'Revolution' followed by the fast, cheery beat of 'One Way Road'. Then, the Trio produce a quick meaningfull strut in 'C'mon Now', and follow it with the achingly beautiful and longing 'I'd Do Anything'.
I feel transported when I listen to 'Ragged Mile', and I feel relaxed when I hear 'Johnny's Gone', which resembels almost Jason Mraz style.
This is followed by 'Close to You' a longing urge to get up and change the way you live, and 'Don't Wanna See Your Face', is simply brilliant.
After the inspring 'Take Me', is the absoulutaly bueatiful, yet sad, 'Fool for You'.
Other highlights of this album are without a doubt 'Mystery Man', 'Steal It', 'To Look Like You', 'Gonna Be a Long Time' and the melodic 'A Star Is Born'. Not only that, but the bonus traks are just as amazing too, they should be on both albums!
This is, my favourite abulm of the last few years, and I reckon it will be for years to come.
If I had to name the three best songs off this abulm, I would practically pass out in frustration. To start with, in my opinion, you must have 'One Way Road' and or 'Revolution' in there, but personally, I love 'I'd Do Anything', 'Fool for You' and definately 'Mystery Man'. Although, I would then say, ' What about "Don't Wanna See You Face?", "C'mon Now' and 'Close to You'? And What about "Steal it, Take Me' and 'Only You (Bonus Track)'?. And 'Ragged Mile', 'Gonna be a Long time' and 'A Star is Born'?????
What I'm saying, is that there is such a varitiy of Wonderfull, Wonderfull, songs in this album, you could only ever divide it into sections. Deep and Meaningfull, Light- Hearted and Cheery, In Face and Laughable, Insirational and so much more.
Take my word for it, this is a fantastic, fantastic abulm- and I don't regret a single cent I spent on it.
Note: Buy the Delux Version- the bonus tracks are great, and you get an awesome iTunes LP with it, including videos on how the trio made the Album, many photos, lyrics etc.

Oh John butler, how commercial and bland you are sounding these days. Disappointed with your latest efforts. Don't waste your money.

Love it

It's just so groovy. It's refreshing to hear something this good coming out of an Australian independant.

A bit messy....

Grand national had a cleaner sound. One way road is cool.

Don't take us for April Fools JBT!

Back home in Oz we are no April fools - this is a commercial Uprising to pocket some US of A green dollars. So it lacks the raw gutsy punch and smelly armpit Byronesque that makes JBT JBT. Yes it will sell, its JBT, but it sells its soul in the process - please find the real 'one way road' back to your roots man. You don't really want to look like those other bands, C'mon now.

I have to admit, I thought this album was gonna be awesome, but the standard blew me away - it was better then I could of imagined! Not only are the songs fun, easy to listen to and catchy they are just insanly awesome!!! Ive seen John Butler Trio live at the bluesfest twice, and they are amazing, so talented and just brilliant.
I heard a few of the songs from this CD at the 2010 bluesfest, and I was so amazed by them that I just had to have the CD. Ive had the CD for about a month and already all the songs have around 2000 on the playcount!! I just cant get sick of them!
I absoulty reccomend this CD to... everyone !!!
Enjoy

Amazing!

Brilliant album, I definately think it's his best yet. He really is an amazing and talented artist. But his most devoted fans, most of them Aussies, missed out on the bonus 3 tracks, simply because they rushed out and bought the album the day it was released. A bad move it seems. It leaves a very bitter taste in our mouths, and it kinda takes the shine off listening to the part of the album we did get, great as it is. Knowing there are three more songs we could have had, but because we bought it early we missed out....
Three songs may not be much to John, but after such a long wait for some new songs and a new album. It seems these day his lyrics say one thing, his actions another.

Johnny's Definitely Gone :(

Really dissapointed in this album... Don't get me wrong, there are a few good songs.. Its as though they have lost what they are about... In there other albums they had raw feelings and meaningful lyrics and a more folky sound, which was the great thing about them... This album lacks in life-changing lyrics... Where's the REAl John Butler sound gone???

Mabye The Best JBT Album EVER!!!!!

I have to say that before this album I never really thought of listening to them, not because I didn't like their music, it just wasn't the type of music I listen to. This album has really opened me up to their music and I can't stop listening to it. Great album, don't miss the bonus tracks either!

Definetley worth the money, it's a must buy for all JBT fans. Every track has such great energy and good vibe. I've been waiting for the album to come out for such a long time, and it didn't let me down. "April Uprising" has more of a pop rock genre influence conpared to previous albums like "Sunrise Over Sea" and "Grand National". Thanks John and the boys for another great brand new album, hope to see more in the future.

Unbelievable

JBT's new album has completely exceeded my expectations. JBT has once again been completely reinvented with the new line up, bringing a completely new sound and feel to this album but the underlying messages are the same as the old JBT I have been following since 2002. It is hard to pinpoint who this album reminds me of. I hear a few beatley undertones but maybe even some early 90's style music. It has a much poppier sound than previous albums although i am sure we all said that with grand national too, it definitely works though. Awesome... Think my little boys and I will be dancing to this album in the loungeroom for months to come. Love it!
