This album really is an indie-rock masterpiece and one of the greatest albums of the 2000's. It's experimental like 2007's Cryptograms but with enough 60's surf rock and contemporary pop elements to make the album listenable. Cover Me Slowly/Agoraphobia is a beautiful opening to the album and songs like Never Stops, Microcastle, Nothing Ever Happened and Saved By Old TImes are testimonies to Deerhunter's songwriting talent.

I tried to get into Cryptograms, but I couldn't. I was surprised by this album, being quite starkly different from it. It's just pop-tinged experimental rock, but with hints of ambience and psychedlia. I love it. I especially love the build-ups in the title track and Twilight at Carbon Lake which makes for a -ridiculously- good closing song. Little Kids and Nothing Ever Happened are also definite highlights.

A really great album. It's one of those albums you can listen to all in one go and enjoy all of it. At times Microcastle can be quite slow and melodic, but at the same time there are some catchy and upbeat songs here too. Check out Microcastle, another great album from a great band.
