After his previous more bluesy album Hardware is rockier and as expected by the ZZ Top front man, a few unexpected styles thrown in here and there just for fun and fun it is. From the big groove blues/rock of “My Lucky Card” to a Texas/Californian neo surf styled “West Cost Junkie” back to a fierce rocker like “Stackin’ Bones” help create a great musical landscape. Overall the switch in styles works well due to Billy using his very distinct style of playing along with his vocal abilities as way to help ground all the songs together. This album contains everything we love about Billy Gibbons. His dirty and very physical guitar tone grooving away along with his gravely vocals can only be truly appreciated by playing it loud.
