Street-corner harmonies and boy-band smoothness come together

Blending street-corner harmonies with boy-band smoothness, Philadelphia's Boyz II Men broke out with 1991's East Coast R&B celebration “Motownphilly.” But their stirring vocals would prove to be most well suited to ballads: The heartbroken “End of the Road,” the pleadingly seductive “I'll Make Love to You,” and the elegiac, Mariah Carey-led “One Sweet Day” showcase the group's slick emotionalism and formed the bedrock of their pop stature in the ‘90s. In the decades since, their singing chops and harmonic interplay have remained ageless.
